This is one of my favourite places to have brunch in Dublin, the food is outstanding. I've had the French Toast with bacon and maple Syrup and it was amazing. I've also gone for the wild mushrooms on Brioche , a welcome escape from the typical regulars on brunch menus across Dublin. The mushrooms were cooked in a garlic and truffle cream and served with a rocket and tomato salad, absolutely delicious. Many vegetarian options, hardly anything vegan though. You can "veganize" some of the meals. even some vegan ones. Dogs are not allowed in, like many places in Dublin, but you can sit with them outside at noon when sun is shining. It can be very nice. We sat outside in the cold, luckily the decided to shine upon us. Waiter also turned on the outdoor heater, and offered some water to our dog. Food is good but it is expensive. I have on two occasions taken my visiting family members here for the fantastic breakfast and the opportunity to eat outside in a very good area of Dublin. Went here before a show in the bord gas. Went for a change as had been to all the other restaurants around numerous times. It was okay. It's great they use fresh ingredients but the food left me wondering should I had just went with the norm. I had the beef with mash and gravy but it just didn't do it for me. I had mushroom toast for stater but I had to season it so much that I think I had more salt in me than the ocean. Won't be returning as its expensive enough that I wouldn't waste my money. One of the good restaurants in Grand canal worth trying. I had a one hour break between my lectures so I walked with my friend for a lunch and she suggested it for me. The decoration is quit nice and modern style and it has a nice outdoor seating. The place was fully booked but we managed to get a table for 2. We had a seafood soup, sweet potato with a mascarpone and beetroot souse and a french fries. The sweet potato was my favorite as the flavors of the souse were really good with it. read more

Before an Eric Clapton concert, we stopped by cause all the other restaurants were packed. We were quickly seated. As Annie L. mentioned, the interior has a Scandinavian vibe to it, giving it a hip ambiance. We both ordered the "herbstreet burger and chips". It was delicious. The beef was grilled to perfection. You could taste charcoal smoked goodiness. The organic toppings blended sumptuously with the seared patty. The gherkins gave the meal a refreshingly crisp edge. They also had a great selection of interesting beers like kopparberg and hoegaarden. The latter was soothing and slightly citrusy. Perfect with the hamburger. Service was friendly and we were seated quickly. Bathrooms were immaculate. It took a while to flag down a waiter for the check, but that is minor. Overall, I was impressed. Certainly, you spend more than you would at Burger King, but I think the taste and atmosphere justifies it. read more

Just across the canal from our Airbnb, Herbstreet turned out to be a superb way to end our short stay in Dublin. The Ottoman Eggs were excellent with just the right amount of heat in the chili butter paired with the tang of the dilly yoghurt. I could've done with a bit more cucumber (perhaps even a garnish of fresh shavings or julienne), and more of the wonderful rustic bread (not that there wasn't enough, I just really liked it and almost asked for another couple slices!). A beautifully prepared Lavazza cappuccino rounded out a very fine brunch. read more

Wow wow wow! This place is delicious! I have only been once with my friend for brunch but my god was it tasty! There is so much appealing options on the menu that I wanted it all. Dying to go back! The staff were great and recommended different options to my friend and I as we were so spoiled for choice. I went with 'Eggos Mexicalo' (something along those lines) and to say I was delighted with my choice!! This dish had baked free range eggs on a tomato and habanero sauce with spring onions, fresh tomatoes and Swiss cheese and slow roast pulled pork and it was served with corn chips and chunky avocado salsa. Like come on how good does that sound - My mouth is watering even typing that. We also sat outside and it was a gorgeous sunny day so the view of the grand canal was beautiful as well! read more

Heard a lot about this place and the food definitely didn't disappoint. Not 5 stars because the wait here is crazy and the host wasn't very nice while we waited: for starters, he suggested we go next door for coffee or take my friend's baby to the playground down the road while we waited which we clearly didn't want to do, and he kept suggesting these things. Secondly, we were a group of 6, but two were running a bit late. The host refused to seat us until the whole party arrived, though ultimately we all say at two tables anyway so what difference does it make? With that out of the way, let's get to the crux of things. The food here is great. I ordered the toast with wild mushrooms and salad. It was absolutely delicious. My friends ordered eggs with salmon, the pancake stack and some form of focaccia, everyone was happy with their food and devoured it very quickly. The downside is the food took a while to come out, and that's after a half hour wait to be seated so we were starving. Personally, I was a bit disappointed with the fact they don't serve chai latte, it's become very common in Dublin and a place as popular and highly regarded as herbstreet, I'd expect to serve it, but they only serve regular chai tea bags, which is not the same. My friends and I then went for "dessert" and shared the French toast with banana and pecans between us, and that was to die for. Bottom line: the food here was amazing, and for all we ordered it wasn't that pricy. The service was not amazing and food arrival quite slow, so.. You win some, you lose some. read more

Visited here for the second time this weekend. Chicken wings were amazing, I had heard a lot about them so hopes were high- quite expensive for a small portion hence the 3 stars! Loved the range of food on the brunch menu- but again it is all quite expensive. €5 for a side of chips is a bit steep with most other dishes around the €12-14 mark. Personally I think maple syrup should come as standard on pancakes but here is is €2 extra. I know that this place always has gotten great reviews, and I was really excited to finally try the "best brunch place" when I moved into Grand Canal Square area. The first time I went was for a late lunch, and I'll say that my meal was very good- I got the fish tacos, and my date got the wings, which he thought were tasty. However, since that lunch date 5 months ago, I feel like it has gone progressively down hill!! The second time, the same guy and I went for a brunch, and he ordered the Egg Florentine, with a request for no cheese, and they brought it with cheese. The service was really slow, as always, and he barely ate his meal. My meal was the pancakes, and I love pancakes, and finding them in Dublin can be hard, but they tend to be a little sweet for my liking. The last and most recent time we came here, which was today, he got the turkey burger, and couldn't even eat it! Very salty he said. I had the short stack of pancakes, which is always a safe bet, but again, they are a little sweet. One thing is that the coffee is really very nice, and it's a good location, with a nice vibe. Service is really really slow. And they tend to make mistakes on orders frequently. Nice place to sit on a nice day and maybe have some coffee, but I'd skip it if you're looking for a good meal, and especially if you're in a hurry or want something quick, since the service leaves much to be desired. read more

This place is simply not for me. If you have any dietary restrictions and don't eat stuff like sugar, cream or eggs there's very little the place can offer. I went there for brunch with a bigger group of friends and everybody was happy with their orders. For sure they serve great lads food there. I got a tofu salad with spinach and chickpeas for e13.50. It was nothing special and looked a bit poor comparing to my friends' dishes. I knew the place offers vegan options just because I emailed them the day before and they were very fast with a reply. Unfortunately you won't find anything on a printed menu or a blackboard. I was also disappointed when I was told they don't do soya milk so I had to go for a black coffee. My boyfriend and I went on the weekend for late brunch (I think around 1:30) and boy was there still a line! Pleasantly we got seated sooner than what the queue suggested. What drew me the most initially to the venue was the décor and the type of people that went there. You can definitely tell this was a nicer area of town, which is kind of refreshing considering I tend to go to more hole-in-the-wall/ north side places. And perhaps it was because it was a sunny day, the way the people were enjoying themselves in the sun, just chilling just gave me such a happy vibe. We got seated quite quickly but I have to say the service after that was as quick or attentive. It took us a little bit to get our orders but the wait for the food! It was a bit challenging for the patience of my stomach. I ordered the Mexicano and my boyfriend ordered the Eggs Florentine. The Florentine was actually very good, light but flavourful. Mine was baked eggs on a bed of pulled pork topped with cheese, and I loooove melted and crusty cheese! I have to the say the pull pork was a but dry and too much for brunch - next time I will definitely try the veggie (spinach) version which I think will be much better. The guac that came with it was very very good!! It was just so buttery and soft and I don't know what spice magic they used, but it was probably the best guac I've had in a while. I've tried here a few of the dishes here for brunch including the pancakes, wings and French toast. I think the French toast is the kind of sweet that'll make your teeth sting from the overload of sweetness. The wings are meh, but let's face it, Europe needs to work on their Wing game. These Are nothing on my wings from my hometown of Toronto. The pancakes are good and the flavoured butter is delicious. A late morning meeting in town for work resulted in a group of us heading in for a midweek breakfast. Looking for somewhere that could accommodate a large number of us, on a Wed at 10am led to us picking Herbstreet. Plenty of space, huge breakfasts (I had Belgium waffles with clotted cream), delicious lattes, lovely view of the canal - this place didn't disappoint. One thing to watch out for though is that the breakfast menu is a bit more limited than the brunch one (led to initial disappointment by a few who were looking forward to the treats they'd been reading about on the brunch menu) read more

The food is great and always fresh (a bit more variety wouldn't hurt perhaps). You have to bring time as they tend to be busy but service is friendly. I've had the eggs florentine (very good, even if my breakfast buddy didn't like the egg/bread ratio) and at other times quiche or the veggie burger, everything I tried was good. Don't go for the wine (or ask for a recommendation maybe), that was the one low point of a recent visit! I went to Herbstreet last night for the second time. It's convenient if you want a pre-theatre menu and are going to Bord Gais. Unfortunately, both times I have gone, despite making reservations, the wait has been so long that we haven't had time for appetizers. They offered us complimentary wine, handling our situation well, however there is something very undignified about hurredly stuffing a €16 burger in your mouth that makes an otherwise classy theatre evening feel tarnished. Next time I will make my reservation for 25 minutes before I actually want to sit down in order to get my money's worth. read more

Location! Location! Location! There aren't many breakfast spots in this area, so Herbstreet nailed it on location. The food is very good. The pancakes were fantastic. The only drawback that I experienced was the service. The waiters and waitresses were nice, but not consistent. My friend and I waited for our bill well past 30 minutes after we were done eating. I ended up taking the check up to the register myself, because the wait was becoming monotonous. Also, there are plenty of children that frequent the restaurant. Again, I think this is due to the fact that there aren't a lot of options close by for tourists. read more

Sunday morning in search of hangover food we found an oasis. I was having the eggs Benedict until I saw in small print, "full Irish" beside one of the dish names. I asked for and got without quibble, a poached egg instead of the menu prescribed scrambled. Over cooked bacon and to much bread in sausage meat gets it only four stars, but the important thing is you get what you pay for and you get your money's worth in quality and service.
