In all honesty, despite having been here several times and the fact that my best friends love the place, it's never really thrilled me. Don't get me wrong - it's not bad by any means - just pretty average. The waffles I got this last time were tasty but nothing mindblowing, portion size wasn't quite enough to fill me up, and although the cappuccino was very tasty and pretty artfully done, it again wasn't anything you couldn't find elsewhere. Both my friends ordered the "breakfast of champions," both of them finished it pretty quickly as it was also a pretty small portion, and we kind of wondered what kind of "champion" eats about 100 calories for breakfast and is then raring to face their day. Not this champion, I'll tell you that! Oddly enough even though we got there right as it opened at 8:30, and service initially was quick and attentive, we never got a refill on our water jug and after clearing the plates we were completely ignored - no mention of a bill or anything - so ended up sitting around after failing to get the wait staff's attention for 15 minutes, then finally going up to the front to pay. I've also been while it's been busy and the service was a bit of a letdown then too. The one thing which for me will redeem a lot of these qualities is if it's a great deal - but my tiny waffle and cappuccino cost me about 13 euros and left me unsatisfied, whereas there's lots of places I've been to which would leave you in a definite food coma for that much. So not too much "bang for your buck" there. I'll likely be back as my friends are fans for some reason but if I'm picking a place it won't make my top 5 or maybe even my top 10. read more

I finally got to experience the ever popular brunch at the one of Dublin's supposedly best brunch spots! As it was one of those sunny Saturday afternoons, there were queues since 11am right up until half 2! We came at 1:30 and got a table immediately partly by pure luck and the fact that we took the small table right beside the door, so it was drafty. But the queue had a 30 min wait otherwise. It was packed until about 3pm when we left. The brunch was fantastic! I ordered a baked egg dish which was made in a spicy tomato sauce with beans and spinach, and it tasted heavenly! By far the best brunch I've had in Dublin so far. My mom had the turkey burger which was pretty massive and came with sweet potato chips which were delicious. I found that the overall quality and standard of the food in general was very high. On the brunch menu almost everything is egg based dishes, although they do have the veggie and turkey burgers if you prefer something more lunch than brunch. There's also some interesting sides like quinoa salad and chicken wings. For a place that was packed to the brim, the service was remarkably fast and the food came out quicker than expected. The staff were pretty nice too, not much to comment on that really. The only negatives are that it's not possible to make brunch reservations on weekends due to possibly high demand, and the chairs are quite uncomfortable. But for just brunch and the lively atmosphere, I would have given 5 stars. read more

Had a very tasty brunch here. The sweet potato wedges were the best I've ever had and I also loved the avocado salsa that came with them. Pancakes were okay. I thought it was a bit mean on their part to charge extra for maple syrup. The banana French toast with pecans was delicious but oh so rich and indulgent. I loved it but it might be too sweet for the average Joe soap. I do think €12 is very expensive for this. Coffee wise, I'm not a fan of lavazza. This could be my own personal preference. Kept it simple for brunch recently and got they're short stack pancakes with maple syrup - they were pretty stellar definitely giving the Lennox a run for their money. My only fault is that the place is a little overpriced for what you're getting other than that the service was pretty good, the manager was super friendly and helpful. My boyfriend and I came here for brunch on Saturday afternoon. There was a 30 min wait time. Luckily it is located next to the canal which is nice to sit by and watch the swans. Popped in for some stomach lining before a session down the street. 6 pm and it was quite busy. Did I have a reservation? Negative response elicited the need to return the table by 7.30 which wasn't a problem for me but does suggest reservations are a useful precaution. Well cooked and large burger with a small mountain of chips from a limited but comprehensive menu was served up in short order. On an unscientific sample, ie I looked around me, most other patrons appeared to be having burgers of various provenance as well and all seemed to be enjoying them. Basically a fastish food place - which is not a complaint - and I was back on the street in 35 minutes. Location is great and you have a lovely view of the impressive Dockland architecture. Interior has that modern Scandinavian feel, I was a big fan of the lighting system on the ceiling. I order the eggs Florentine which consisted of two poached eggs. Eggs had a slight hardness in them. Not enough spinach for my liking. Sauce was perfect. Crumpet was a bit burnt but overall it was a solid dish and I enjoyed it so well done. The waitress was great very pleasant and friendly. The owner/manager was another matter all together hence the drop in stars. When I arrived I asked for a table of one as I had no idea how many people from the Yelp breakfast club would turn up. The café was largely empty at this point. After I ordered and got my coffee, two more people joined me so we moved ourselves to the table right beside me that had four chairs which really incensed the owner/manager. He curtly and rudely moved us to a 'three person table'. Which consisted of a single table with three chairs stuck around - tad too intimate for my liking. Fair enough I pissed him off for moving my stuff to a larger table but the fantastic part was that table stayed empty for quite some time and then when new people were seated there it was a party of three! So I just think he got very indignant that I moved without his permission... Sorry I didn't realise that half filled cafés these days have a strict seating policy but I have duly noted it. It got very busy around lunch, finished up or food around 1pm, so it seems very popular. I just can't be bothered with places that treat me and company like we are irritating them so no I won't be rushing back. read more

Another attempt at liking Herbstreet, another fail. This time I didn't actually make it as far as getting food though. There was a congregation of people around the front of the restaurant last Saturday waiting patiently for a space to eat brunch at this waterfront spot. We went in, stood around for a few minutes, four different staff members flitted around us at different times, all using different tactics to avoid looking us in the eye. We waited longer.. not one person even acknowledged our presence, never mind said hello. I would expect in a restaurant this busy that there would be someone stationed at the front greeting customers, advising on wait times etc. It's exactly the type of lax customer service I received last time I was here and resulted in me jumping ship fairly lively. I very much doubt I'll be making a third attempt at this place. Ely next door has cracking food, lovely staff, and far less attitude, and so in my opinion, much more deserve my custom. read more

Herbstreet is one of my staple go to places for Brunch after a night spent enjoying the city or just staying in. Since I've only eaten here for brunch, I usually get the pancakes, which you can get served many different ways (my favorite are the chocolate chips, but the regular maple syrup and blueberry are winners too), but you can also get burgers and a few other dishes. I recently had the chicken burger, which was a tad salty and on the messy side, but since I've been here a few times I think this may have been a one off case. They also serve a tasty bellini! Service is always exceptional and personable which is nice since they are always busy on weekends. If possible, definitely try to sit outside to enjoy the water, people passing by, and fresh air! read more

I now understand why there was a 25 minute wait to have brunch at this place! Went on a Sunday and with the best weather of the year, I waited for a table outside. Not only was every table outside pack but most of the tables inside were seated as well. Although I waited roughly 25 minutes, I would do it all over again for the quality and excellence of the food here! The staff were very prompt and very accommodating. After spending a good 10 minutes looking at the menu and still not knowing what to choose as everything looked so delicious, I ended up going with Eggs Florentine which I absolutely do not regret. The eggs were poached beautifully and went well with a nice glass of sauvnaigan blanc. Don't judge me for drinking at brunch, it was a beautiful Sunday and it was almost afternoon! My friend had ordered the fish tacos which looked and tasted delicious. I can say that I will be back for brunch and lunch as there are about 8 more things on the brunch menu alone that I'd like to try and the prices are extremely reasonable. The only thing I wished they'd improve on is their service, I've been here a handful of times and it's always the same. Really unattentive staff who fail on the basics of good table service - there were plenty of staff on this day and we were in by 11 so the place wasn't full. But our finished dishes sat on the table for a very long time there were 5 of us so not a lot of space to relax and enjoy our coffee. I could write an ode to Herbstreets Eggs Benedict, really I could, Im just not all that good at odes! This has to be one of the best places in Dublin for brunch - real brunch which does pancakes, french toast and eggs benedict and florentine among others. The value is fantastic (ok so youre talking about 12€ for any of the breakfasts but they are big, big, big and seriously tasty). The eggs benedict are so fantastically perfect that I dont know if I could ever eat anything else there again, although that being said when I did have the French toast the last time it was pretty damn good too. The pancake stacks are massive and look great and their coffee is pretty much perfect too. All in all this has topped my list of breakfast places in Dublin (after years of searching) On my first visit the service was very slow but the manager did apologise when he realised how long we had waited. This time we sat outside on a lovely sunny day and the service was perfect (even down to them moving the awning out when the rain started and back when it stopped so we could get some sun!) read more

We picked Herbstreet because they were close and had a kids menu. Both the little ones loved their selections (burger and grilled chicken) and everyone left satisfied and quite full. Great name. Great restaurant! Herb Street is a winner. Where else can you find a restaurant that tells you what dishes are low GI, wheat-free or contains a superfood. That makes it sound like a nerdy health food restaurant but it's really very delicious (and informative!). It's a great restaurant with a wall that opens out so that you're basically sitting on the water (nice for sunny days) and it's very popular with local suits for lunch. I had sardines piri-piri which were so tasty (and full of Omega 3) but the chicken salad with chick peas looked lovely too. My favourite thing here is the "Herbstreet Combo" - they do a cup of the soup of the day with half a turkey club and a small salad (€9.50). Best of all worlds. read more

Good place for a lazy Sunday brunch. The one and only thing that I really don't like it's the queuing. You cannot pre book the table, you can either wait (usually around 15min) or you can leave your phone number and go for a coffee while waiting for a call. In other worlds, if you are patient and you are not starving at that time you gonna like it. Veggie and turkey burgers are both nice, I like their sauces and chips. Also, the brioche with wild mushroom it's my boyfriend favourite. Deserts are different each time, I never been there for a dinner but I can imagine is similar. We've had brunch at Herbstreet a few times (maybe five) and it always pleases. One of us usually gets the Eggs Florentine, and I have to say that the hollandaise sauce on the eggs we had today was the best we've ever had. It was delish. It's a bit on the expensive side, especially for eggs, but the dishes are nicely presented, the staff is courteous, and if it's not too crowded, it's a really pleasant experience. If you're going on a Sunday, I'd recommend going early or late. Avoid the brunch rush hour. They close at 4 pm. read more

We were going to a show in the Grand Canal Theatre at 7.30, so we booked in here at 5.45. Can't fault it at all. When we arrived, we were offered our choice of seats. The host was friendly, and the service was prompt. We ordered a bottle of Pinot Grigio (the only one on the menu). It was very nice, but at €28, it was too expensive. From what I can remember, there were no wines under €25, which is just too much. We both ordered the turkey burger - both were completely polished off. We had cheesecake for dessert, which was fine - nothing special. For 2 mains, 1 bottle of wine, and 1 dessert it came to €61. If I was going to another show, I'd probably come here again. read more

I went here with a few friends for bunch on Easter Monday, there were about 6 of us total. When we arrived, they were not very busy, and we were quickly seated. I'm glad we arrived when we did, as within about 15 minutes the place COMPLETELY filled up. The inside is decorated quite nicely and modern. The lights on the ceiling remind me of a tube station map. I ordered a cappuccino, and my husband ordered a latte while we decided what to order. Both coffees were quite good. I eventually decided on the Eggs Benedict, and my husband got the turkey burger. When the food first came out, I must admit it did not look like much. My husband's burger was good sized, but had only 4 large sweet potato wedges. Mine was two poached eggs, over the english muffin with (what seemed like) not much ham. However, once you dug in, you realised quickly that it actually was quite a bit of food. The plates did not have any additional garnishing on them, and I think that is why the portions felt so small, but in a way I like how it so simplistic. All they did was the food, no extra fancy schmancy garnish you never eat anyway. It was so filling that neither of us was actually able to finish our dishes. We did sit there for nearly three hours chatting with our friends, and not once did we feel rushed by the staff. They continued refilling our water and checking up on us periodically. I'd really like to come back here sometime when the weather is warmer, as I've heard they have loads of outdoor seating when the weather is nice, plus it overlooks the water and "urban garden" in front of the bord gais energy theater. You can tell the people who work here take great pride in good, quality food, with no unnecessary extras. However, when it is busy in here, it gets REALLY loud, and it can be hard to talk to people at the table if there are more than 4 of you.
