Hensel's understands! When your toilet seat suddenly snaps in half on a weekend morning, you can't wait for the internet stores to deliver a new one. And you don't want to drive to three different places across two cities to find the replacement. You need. A new seat. Right now. R.J. at Hensel's got the brief. We called ahead to confirm that they do indeed carry toilet seats. R.J. put me on hold a moment, and returned with info on the three different kinds of seats they had in stock, their price range, and even the aisle they were on! Literally all we had to do was walk in and grab it. Thanks for taking care of us, R.J., we'll be loyal forever. read more

The instant you walk in staff greets you at the door and asks you how they may help you. Customer service at it's finest! I love the selection between two stores across the parking lots. One store has home decor, candies of all kinds, paints for the walls, and kitchen nick nacks. Whereas the other store focuses on home repairs, home keys, and small assortment of random home items. I could spend hours here. I love how quiet and peaceful it feels. A perfect getaway after a busy day at work. I arrived for one item and end up leaving with other items :) read more

Writing this mostly for out-of-towners. This entry on Yelp will unfortunately hide that this Ace Hardware also contains a really great candy shop and general gift shop. The candy shop in the back is 100% worth a visit. I've been to dozens of "old fashioned" candy shops around the country that are either really cheesy or just are so overpriced you won't want to buy anything. This candy shop has really nice variety of old fashioned US brands, current novelty ones that kids like, and quality imports. Prices on candy are very fair. They have a good selection of regional sodas that are pretty $$$ individually but you buy in sets of 6 it's more reasonable. Also the staff is INCREDIBLY friendly and helpful. read more

Hensel's Ace Hardware is very well run. The workers are open, friendly, often knowledgeable, and always ready and willing to assist customers. There is one older man who is especially helpful because of all he knows. The aisles are well stocked, and organized. read more

I have found or ordered what I needed from the garden section. Staff are always helpful and enthusiastic. The hardware section has inspired several lower cost projects and home improvements. I love this store. The people that work there seem naturally nice and genuine. The products are always reliable. read more

Needed to exchange some soda stream quick connect bottles and staff was super friendly and efficient!

Today we took on the task of replacing our outdated and slightly deteriorating kitchen faucet. Bought a nice version of fancy that fit our simple and amazingly decorated home ;P So, we head to ace for parts that don't come with the sink and we laugh at all of the options and how stupid we feel. And then, John is summoned for us. He was patient with our lack of knowledge and lingo and found us a solution that was worth celebrating. So thankful! Having a beer for you John! :) read more

After a couple of trips recently to Hensel's I've noticed a huge difference. The employees were very attentive and plentiful to find. They took their time to explain products and very willing to go the extra mile. I am so very happy to write this update because Hensel's Ace has now become my go to hardware store! read more

Great spot with tons of useful and/or fun merch with very friendly employees. Can't wait to visit again!

I think this store is really good and can really help you out when you need some appliances. The owner runs the store very well and you can tell she loves what she does. If you don't know where to go, go to Hensel's Ace Hardware store, plus the candy shop is a really nice bonus to this store. read more

A good Ace hardware store, carries pretty much anything and everything you could want or need in regards to home improvement stuff. Full electrical, plumbing, hardware, paint, lumber and garden departments - as well as seasonal items and specialty items that are specific to our region. The staff that I have encountered are all kind, friendly and professional, most of the department managers/supervisors have been in the store for a while and are very knowledgeable about their specific departments. There are a couple managers as well that are great reference points and have solid advise when it comes to dealing with or working around situations that require "out of the box" thinking to overcome. On a couple different visits I have always found the necessary materials when fabricating something out of the norm. They have a great paint supply department as are the plumbing, electrical and hardware departments - always able to find what was needed or come to a conclusion about how to overcome a specific situation when having to deal with something other than normal. They also have a kitchen and home appliance store (the white building next door to the main building in the parking lot) - I have been able to find appliance cords, wiring harnesses, etc. in this store and the manager is knowledgeable about most needs for specific appliance wiring requirements. There is also a nice selection of name brand kitchen tools - both large and small in this building. This is a solid Ace hardware store with a good staff of knowledgeable employees and you can find pretty much anything you need when it comes to home improvement and home repair supplies and materials. 4 Stars. 00231 read more

Hensel's Ace Hardware - Hardware Stores Near Me - Arcata, California

Had a really awful experience with an incredibly rude store manager. I will never shop here again.

Wow...No customer service.store is a mess! No management what so ever! bring on Home Depot!

My grandfather Robert Hensel founded this store decades and decades ago, I believe in the fifties or sixties. He took a lot of pride in it. He would be so happy to see what it has become and that it still bears his name. It's huge! They have everything here even a candy store and gifts. My grandpa always carried little gifts and loved candy! Thanks for taking such good care of Hensels. I loved visiting when I was in Arcata. read more

Hensel's Ace Hardware - My grandfather Robert Hensel and me. - Hardware Stores Near Me - Arcata, California

This is the hub of our little town! This store is owned and operated by a local woman and Mom and just an all around great person. Yes this is a standard hardware store... they also have an awesome paint department, a kitchen store, a nice selection of kitchen outdoor furniture and house plants and carry brand names like EGO and YETI. I also regularly purchase gifts at this store for friends young and old. A big perk of shopping here is knowing I am supporting a store that supports the community in return. Hensel's is always donating and sponsoring local events and even puts on their own in their parking lot. In short I recommend shopping here! read more

The staff here applies their knowledge and takes the time and attention to help you with your projects. The way they worked together expressed a culture of teamwork and shared goals to help customers be the best they can be. I have practically zero skills with tools and how to construct, but knew I wanted a tool holder for our garage. Jeanene took the time in the store to instruct me and help me make decisions, walking me step by step through the process so that I was able to buy all the items I needed to go home and do it. Tim and Bobbi also pitched in to the effort! read more

Worst Ace experience ever. Hardware manager is really rude, as well as the door guard during this Covid outbreak. Both made me feel terrible about trying to return a broken tool, that a manger (Rachel?), who was really nice and helpful, told me I could return for a refund no problem. Seems like there is a serious lack of communication here and a real need to train employees to act like professionals. I'll go to sunny brae Ace, or any other Ace, before these guys again. read more

this location usually has a decent variety of plants but i went in today and noticed that their plants had a fungus gnat infestation. i had bought a plant from them a while back and couldn't figure out why all of a sudden i had gnats. just be careful if you buy a plant from them i guess read more

Best hardware store around. They stock a variety of items, from your traditional hardware needs, to kitchen appliances and gadgets, to candy! If they don't have it or stock it, but can get it, they will. The personnel are top notch, exceedingly helpful, knowledgeable, kind, and quick! Owners are local, support the community, and really care about what they do. Thanks for my replacement 3 way light switch! I was greeted within 15 seconds, taken right to what I needed, and bought chocolate on the way out. Seriously impressive shopping experience! read more

Would be 5 stars if you had Dustin in paint working 7 days a week. I have a long standing account with this location and he is the only one capable of quickly getting what I need. New employees take an hour + to get the simplest of mixes ready. read more

I stopped shopping here after I witnessed the manager (pretty sure he's the manager) tow a car from their only half filled parking lot. The people were shoppers, and purchased a bunch of stuff, but took a 10 minute detour across the street before shopping. The manager was an ass about it, but no surprise, he always is. Thankfully they returned all their purchases. They now block off their parking lot as if it'll hurt their business if anyone parks there temporarily after hours. What a joke. I live across the street but now I shop at sunny brae. read more

There's a man who works there that makes me very uncomfortable. He is there all the time and I avoid going to this location because this guy definitely gives me more "unwanted advances" than I can deal with. I can't just go in and get what I need without someone, usually him, gets all too personal with me. read more

This place has everything, fully packed with the essentials! Clean, organized and easy to find what your looking for, especially because the staff are all asking if you need help. I recently got keys made and they were grinded down perfectly and worked the first time. Very customer friendly shop!! read more

The store is easy to navigate. It is set up to flow nicely. Even though there are employees always around to lend a hand, I rarely need them to point me in the right direction. They employees are generally knowledgeable, but if they don't know something, they will quickly find the answer. Although small, their parking lot is one of the nicer ones in Arcata. They will tow the NON customers, so the actual customers have a place nearby to park. When I go to Ace, I don't have to search out parking like I do with other downtown stores. I can't convey how amazing that is. read more

They're not always going to have everything, but they have a lot. It's local, and that's nice. If you're in Arcata you can usually set up another appointment in town and maybe combine the trip. Parking is usually not a problem, and they have bike racks outside. read more

I love my neighborhood Ace! A well stocked and organized store and they pretty much have everything you'll need for projects and emergencies. Very knowledgeable staff who are always available to help and they know what they are doing. They also make keys here and they have a UPS drop off at the back of the store. read more

Evan has amazing customer service skills and definitely deserves a raise! He is competent, funny, and welcoming. He made my day. Thank you Evan! read more

The painting crew here really knows what they are doing. Super friendly and informative.

Love this place Helpful / knowledgable staff My go to hardware store The ace in mckinleyville is better for big jobs but the arcata spot is convenient if your in arcata and need a box of screws... Just two or three blocks from the square, I've been there a thousand times read more

Friendly staff, fairly knowledgeable. The kitchen and housewares section has a great selection of cooking and food preserving wares. The hardware side of the store has a limited selection (as is to be expected from a small hardware store). The biggest downside is the price of materials in the hardware section. If you need more that a few nuts and bolts to fix something, it's worth leaving town for a bigger store. read more

Worst design of hardware store ever. They have mini shops for everything and have to cross parking lot to pay for everything separately for each department. What the hell, who thought this was a great idea is ridiculous. There prices are so high compared to other Ace locations as well. Don't waste your time or money. read more

The best candy store in Arcata, if you're looking for old fashion candy you can't get anywhere else that's the only place to go!

An amazing array of different items are crammed into this centrally located gem of a hardware store. The staff is the most responsive and helpful group I think I've ever met, too. Without them, finding my item might take forever because I'll get distracted by all the cool things they stock. Another plus is that Hensel's is on the Ace hardware system, which means I can get items shipped to the store even if they're not normally in stock. They're very community oriented, too. I feel good shopping there. read more

Dan was really helpful when we came in looking for a specific bolt to fix a step stool. Being a couple of girls we usually get a talking down to at hardware stores, but I didn't get anything but friendly and genuine helpfulness. It was great especially considering I didn't really know how to describe what I needed nor did I take a pic beforehand (doi). He also helped us find panel clips for a broken cabinet. I'm in Eureka but based on my experience here the Arcata location will probably be my go to. read more

Hensel's has gone all-in on preventing the spread of coronovirus. Not only a greeter at the door offering you a choice of their handwashing station or an alcohol spray before you enter the premises, but they've stocked up on Filtrete furnace filters which, though pricey at $18.99, are large enough to give anti-viral protection for 10-14 masks depending on if you get the 1x20x25 size or the 1x20x30. Also a huge supply of nitrile gloves and thin bungee cord and regular cord material, and a handy instruction/review brochure at a display table which the owner made, and which details with photos how to make a cloth or furnace filter mask. Hint: no sewing machine necessary. The Ace calendar has a $5 off coupon for if you spend $25 or more, for each month. Kudos, Hensel's! 4/9/20 read more

Went to their HOUSEWARES store, worst service I have ever had, they made me leave my backpack at the register just to be able to look for the product that I wanted a set of pots and pans. They followed me through the store, leaving my backpack unattended. There are no words to describe the insult, I was wearing Prada glasses and they treated me like a criminal. Needless to say I didn't buy anything, I tried to pick up my backpack but they wouldn't give it back to me, they said they had to wait for the girl who set it aside but she was on break. Luckily I had my nametag on the backpack and was able to get it back. I left the store and will be logging a complaint with management tomorrow. read more

So I love this ace, it's in town, close to everything, and the customer service is usually FAB. There have only been a couple times when I've asked to find something or asked about something and realized that the people knew less than I did but! Usually there is a super sweet guy there that helps as much as he can. I don't know his name, he wears a hat and he's got a nice blondish beard, anyway. Love this ace. And also I've never had the threat of getting towed there because I actually shop there read more

I went here yesterday to pick up some random things, and it was a really nice store. After finding some funny rubber chicken dog toys on clearance, I remembered my mission and asked for directions from an employee. She was very polite and answered all of my questions. Added bonus: it is super quiet in there! I don't know what it is about the place, but everyone speaks in hushed tones and has a very peaceful vibe. It's definitely my new favorite hardware store! read more
