Wow, I'm mystified...I really like shopping here. The staff is always friendly to me and helps me out with advice on my projects. Big selection of material and yarns, especially in a small town like this. They have classes, too, though I haven't yet been able to try one. All I can say is, come in with a friendly attitude and open mind and I think you'll like it, too. read more

Amazing store, packed with lovely fabrics, gorgeous yarns, and an awesome selection of buttons. Staff is helpful, and kind. Definitely worth a stop. read more

Had what I needed but did not assist me when I asked. Spoke to me as if I knew what I was talkIng about when I clearly told them I needed help and was a beginner. read more

TERRIBLE EXPERIENCE! While shopping my 2 year old needed to go to the restroom. They told me where I could take him, which was nice. When we returned the manager Loudly told the other sales clerks to watch me. She Announced I might steal something. STEAL SOMETHING! No, I don't steal. I also don't return to stores WITH HORRIBLE, HORRIBLE STAFF! read more

Undoubtedly, Fabric Temptations has the best selection of fabric in the area. No other store's selection even comes close to theirs. They have beautiful fabrics in beautiful colors and patterns. Everytime I visit, I have a hard time leaving without more than I came for. However, the staff is a mixed bag. I have had one experience with wonderful helpful staff, but that's it. Last time I went, the saleslady was awful, terrible, rude, unhelpful.... and she cut my fabric two inches too short. For a fabric store, this is absolutely unacceptable, especially when the fabric is already on the pricey side. read more

A knitting or sewing store, in my opinion, should offer service first. That service should be cheerful, enthusiastic, charitable, kind, supportive. I have had access to stores like this when I was first learning to knit, and the staff seemed to enjoy answering my questions and helping be reach the end of my project, upon which, I happily bought more yarn. I have finally found a store that offers this kind of service, but it is decidedly not Fabric Temptations. The staff at FT acts as though they wish you had never come in. They act haughty and cold. It is kind of a joke---- the opposite of the warm-fuzzy atmosphere one associates with women gathering to share knowledge about an ancient craft. I have a number of unfinished projects because I simply don't have the gumption to go in and ask for a little jump-start. read more

My mom and I frequent many fabric stores! She's a seamstress and I just like tagging along because it reminds me of my childhood. In Humboldt County you can't do better than Fabric Temptations. They are very helpful, friendly, and always willing to give advice or thoughts on what you are working on. The fabric selection is pretty amazing for such a small area...and they always have unusual fabrics that make the trip interesting. As a side note, since I live in the Bay Area...I always try to get a gift certificate for my mom for holidays...they are SOOOO HELPFUL doing all of this long distance stuff. read more

One of the things I love about this store is the same thing other women seem not to like: They leave me ALONE! When I come in I greet them first, and receive pleasant offers of help right away. When I am deep in thought, pondering yarns, fabric, expecially buttons, I just need time to compare items and think. I know if I want help, I can take my questions and supplies up to the counter, and whomever is there will give me excellent advice and guide me to what I need. . But they don't hover around me waiting for me to make up my mind. I love it! Also, the store is very old fashioned. it reminds me of the old mercantile stores of the south, where the clerks continued to do their work till you ask for help. The very best example is the fantastic haberdashery in London, Liberty London. Yarn, fabrics, sundries to die for, but you have to ask for help if you want it. The old, worn, wooden floors, different levels, and reserved staff are like a trip back to stuffy Liberty London. Excellent quality, I have been shopping there for 40 years. if they don't have what I need, I can go somewhere to Eureka. The help I need is certainly as available as at the Eureka stores and always more available than at JoAnne's. read more

THIS QUILTER IS TEMPTED! Great selection of fabrics for the quilter. Lots of cool batiks and prints that just have to be labeled as "hippy." (I know...big surprise). I need to visit this store again and update this review because last time I was in a hurry and only did a cursory overview. But my overall impression was that they have A LOT of inventory here. read more

I adore this place! The ladies who work here are always so friendly and helpful. Prices are a bit high, but it's worth it!

I don't go to Arcata often, but when I do, Fabric Temptations is a mandatory stop. Unlike Angela L., I always find the people who work there friendly and willing to help. It's a pity that she didn't. Perhaps, if she was looking for a particular fabric, she should have gone to one of the stores in Eureka. What shines for me in Fabric Temptations is always the books, and the fiber areas. That and the quality patterns I can find there. They have an extensive selection of yarns, and were the first place I found the sari silk yarn. The book selection shows an obvious love of resource materials. The fabrics are a temptation but the store lacks the huge amount of space needed to have something for everybody. Usually I'm buying yarn there, and love their service on the yarn. You can buy by the skein, and then they will load the yarn onto the swift and process it into a ball on their ball winder. To me, that's going the extra mile. I confess that when I go there, I tend to buy a lot, and I've been doing this for years, but the place has what I want, and the people are nice, so for this Eureka gal, that makes it a destination for me. If I can pair that up with a Plaza flea market day, then I've had a great outing. I'd give it a five, but the developers took their parking lot and put in a real yawn of a building. It's not their fault, but it does mean that I have to search a car crowded Arcata for a place to park. read more

This place has a good selection but EVERYONE who works here is unhelpful. No one asked me if I needed any help or even looked in my general direction as I wandered around the store lost and confused. The cashiers were snooty and did not greet me when I reached the register. This place has good selection but if I want the same experience with customer service I should just order online, it was that impersonal. read more

I just discovered Fabric Temptations, after realizing that they sell yarn and knitting/crochet supplies, as well as fabric. The sales staff were friendly and helpful, without being over-bearing. I had a great time shopping here and look forward to returning. read more

The women who run this place are incredibly snooty. I have gone here off and on for years because I believe in supporting local businesses. Every single time I walk in the door I can tell they are afraid I am going to steal something from them. They have zero customer service abilities. And they are over-priced, but again, I am willing to pay more to shop local. So maybe they could try not to be total bitches? Never going to happen; it's already been a decade. These women put the bitch in stitch and bitch. read more

Good store, nice staff decent selection, kinda old school. I like it.

Terrible! I won't be going back here. I've given them a few chances. The staff could care less about their customers. They never say hello or ask if they can help you. They just stare at customers. When I walked in I was also hit with a terrible moldy and mildewy odor that irritated my throat. I normally prefer to shop at a locally owned business but definitely not this one! I will take my business to Joann Fabric where I got everything I needed and the staff was helpful. read more

Wonderful selection, you'll find what you need no matter who you are. I'm pretty picky when it comes to the "perfect" fabric or yarn, and I always find just what I need. Prices are somewhat high, I've been to other local stores in different places that have some of the same items and they're about 3/4 or 4/5 the price. I've met 3 women that work there that are wonderful! They help you, ask you what you're looking for, make it a good experience. The majority of the employees however, are quite different. They'll either stare you down as if they're wondering why you're even there and make you feel as if you don't belong, or, they're snooty and act like it's a bother if you ask them a simple question. (or they do both!) They offer classes multiple times a month, I see a flier stating, "ask us about our classes!" so when I go to the front to do just that, they abruptly stop they're current task, sigh, and get flustered that they're having to help. Hope that if you visit, you catch them on a good day! read more

Rude employees! I had to basically beg the lady to help me! Cramped as well! Too expensive!

Its a bit of a hit and miss with the owner and staff. Some days the whole world is smiling and happy in there and other days, I step in, walk through and out because the hostility/hormone level is just too high! This has been true for many years. Buttons: this is the place that has quality, higher end buttons and that is why I continue to go. The fabric I can get other places as well as the yarn but its those buttons that keep bringing me back. They also carry the folk pattern which are nice. read more

I'm giving it 4 stars--but I was tempted to give it 5 just because I think some of the reviews are unnecessarily harsh. The staff I talked to was very friendly and helpful. I liked that they were friendly when I asked questions, but they didn't come up to me or call out to me as I browsed. I hate it when clerks do that--if I want help, I'll ask. The selection is very good for such a small store. I've always found fabric a little pricey--but I've never bought a lot, so I'm not going to try to review the prices. read more

Fabric temptations has a great selection, particularly of batiks and quilting cottons, and though I would agree that the staff don't jump out to help you, I find it kind of relieving. They have been very helpful with any questions I've had, but it's nice to feel comfortable while I shop without someone peering over my shoulder or asking me if I need help at every turn. Fabrics are a bit pricey, but are good quality. read more

I've been to Fabric Temptations several times. As other reviewers have said, my experience has varied. I've gotten awesome customer service there before, yet there have been a couple times that I have gone in and no one has said hello or offered help. I keep going back because of their amazing selection and great location. read more

i love going into this store....huge selection in such a small space.....but I will say, the main person who works there is extremely unpleasant....to customers and to her staff...other than that, i love their variety of fabrics and novelty items. read more

I don't understand the comments about the staff--I'm from Sacramento and my friend took me to F.T. We had a blast with the staff. We didn't ask for help, but they easily interacted with us when we invited them into a conversation. For me, I prefer not having anyone tagging along or offering help when I just want to look. As I said to my friend after leaving today, "This shop is like a fabric explosion for the eyes!" I've never seen so much fabric or yarn in my life stuffed into a moderate/small sized shop. I could have lived there all day and never finished seeing it all. I only wish I were a millionaire so I could buy it all! For those who have only the larger shops in cities such as JoAnn's Fabrics, this small community shop was fun to visit and to buy fabrics or patterns that are not usually carried in the larger franchised stores. Besides, it is absolutely necessary to shop locally, and I do when I can. It was great to see it there and had it been there when I attended HSU, I know my checkbook would have been in deep trouble. The free handmade bag for my purchase was a great bonus. If sales staff seem unfriendly, just ask a question--it works both ways! I look forward to my next visit "home" so I can shop there again. Thanks! read more
