I wanted to add an update to my original review for Eureka Fabrics. I was in the store the end of April, 2021 and I am even more impressed with Rima and her business for making all the changes to keep her store up and running during the Covid pandemic through the online shopping option. She has invested in tech to make it easier for her customers to get quality goods and make the shopping and payment as easy and seamless as possible. She is such a great resource for information on fabrics, construction, dyeing and fabric care. I recently bought yardages of silk and 2 different linen fabrics. Beautiful fabrics. All natural fiber, no polyester. Rima searches the globe to find discounts on high quality fabrics. She is very picky about the quality. If you shop online you can feel safe knowing that the quality will be top notch. A good place for a beginner sewist. A very knowledgeable and supportive staff who can give you advice. They also offer sewing lessons, one on one or an affordable drop-in online clinic. Some people are complaining because of the shop's Covid precautions. Get over it. Covid has not gone away just because you are bored of wearing masks. Some people are immune compromised, including business people. They have the right to protect their health. Shop online if wearing a wee bit of cloth on your face is such a problem for you. read more

Rima and her employees are so nice and knowledgeable. Beautiful, high-quality fabrics at reasonable prices, and their selection of notions is delightful. I like to make my own book cloth for handmade books, and their quality silks and linens are lovely for this, but still affordable. I've also been impressed by how seriously they've been taking the covid situation. You get the sense they really care about their customers. read more

Really good at dividing people. Can't go in unless you've got all three jabs. Silly because we have something in common: sewing and other fabric arts. They don't care about that commonality. They only accept you if you are exactly like them. Very exclusive community. Not warm and friendly like other people say. They are only warm and friendly to certain people. I brought my Bernina in to have a part replaced ( that I had purchased and brought it as well) and my experience with the repair dept was a disaster. They had it for 2 months and everytime I called about it I got a different answer. Was finally called that it was ready, and picked it up and when I got it home and went to use it it was completely messed up..so much worse than when I had dropped it off. It had been working fine before, now it didn't work..at all I called to ask about it and they had me bring it back. They had it for another 2 months. They accused me of messing with it! They told me a machine doesn't leave without a sample swatch, which isn't true because I never got one. From "needing another tool" to later being told they had "just found the manual online" months after I brought it in, it was one story after another. I've now brought the machine to a real repair shop where they tried diligently to repair it , but the machine is a total loss. The take up lever was improperly installed and all timing is off, and the hook is damaged along with a lot of other damage. If you care about your machine please dont have them work on it. Now I have to buy a new machine. I'm not happy. read more

Update: I've relied on Eureka fabrics for my newly-recovered love of sewing and fabrics throughout this last year-and-a-half living in an area in which the COVID virus was serious (especially for people in my age group) and in-store shopping in this part of the state was hazardous. The fabric is awesome, the customer service is wonderful, and the on-line support and shipping have never let me down. Eureka fabrics contributed enormously to my well-being in a difficult time. They are creative and artistic individuals who are just waiting to go on imaginative tangents with you! 2) Specialized classes in corset-making, drafting/design, shoe-making, etc, after which you'll realize you've learned much more valuable information about clothing construction than just the corset you are fashioning. 3) The fabric quality simply must be experienced!Eureka Fabrics has a great store selection, and more they can order at your behest. After working with these fabrics and seeing them wear after washes in comparison to Jo-Ann quality, and at prices that are more than reasonable, I know I will never shop fabrics at Jo-Ann for fabrics with which I intend to make quality garments. 4) Weekly sewing clinics where, for a very affordable rate, you can bring in that project you're having a tough time completing and seek advice from the wonderful teachers and all the other sewers who are also working in their own projects. The social aspect is very very redeeming! Obviously you have less selection but you know that you are looking at a curated collection of high quality fabrics. In addition they carry corset making stuff which is a plus! What better activity during our time of sheltering than sewing! While the store itself is closed, the website is intelligently organized and a lot of fun to navigate. I also recommend the patterns. I just finished making a duster for myself and HAD to make one for my sister. Found some beautiful cotton batik, ordered it via e-mail this morning, and picked it up this afternoon. This store has a wonderful selection of unusual fabrics. I make stuffed toys and I love going here to find something different for them. Prices are very very reasonable. After staring at my intimidating serger, I took up Eureka Fabrics offer of an hour lesson to "demystify" my machine. I was sure I'd need more than one hour, but her lesson provided me with enough basic knowledge to get started on my projects immediately. She helped me understand all the knobs and dials, reduced my fear of playing with all the tension adjustments. While practicing, she even organized and labeled all the extra special feature foots that I probably won't be using until many more hours on my now, wonderful new serger. I am no experienced seamstress and was given an inexpensive machine that I needed to learn about. The owner seemed so nice and helpful that I booked a private class. I went in and she was rushed and off and on the phone with no help for her. She looked over my machine and clearly could not figure out how to thread it and behaved quite agitated and then told me that it was junk and I should have this, that, or the other machine. I have never been so uncomfortable in my entire life. I was ready to scoot out the door when the woman who does repairs came in. She said it was a perfectly fine machine then showed me how to follow the diagram ON THE MACHINE to thread it. It was easy. I still didn't mess with the machine for some time because with all that quality help, I still don't know how to do anything but a straight line and was have not looked for other help if I will again be wasting my money being basically ridiculed and not helped.
