Another groovy little gift shop in downtown Arcata, CA - also located on Arcata Plaza! They sell a wide range of home decor stuff, bar tools, artwork, kitchen stuff, jewelry, and more! I walked out with a full set of hot sauces - four in all - from Humboldt Hot Sauce. The lady who rung me up - wrapped several of the bottles in tissue paper - to help insure they did not clank around to much in my suitcase on the way home. Can't wait to try them all! I recently lost a set of earrings I bought last summer and emailed Plaza. Dyani reached out almost immediately and I was thrilled and amazed! She knew exactly which ones I lost and was going to ship them to me in So Cal. I figured well If she had other items I might like, I'd buy those too. Well the whole thing turned into a curated shopping experience. She went above and beyond snapping pictures of the store for me which became quite fun. I ended up buying more earrings, a few wooden spoons and a father's day hat for my husband. I am so thrilled to have received all my goodies safely and can't thank her enough. Thank you! This is a very nice story with lots to choose from. Their return policy, however, is not good. You cannot return for the original form of payment (only for store credit) and sale items are final sales. This is a big hassle and unusual. Why can't an item be returned for what you paid if it has the tags and is obviously new? And final sales? That's something you see for bargain prices on online websites. I would like to continue shopping here but these policies tell me they don't value me as a customer. In an expensive retail store the customer should always have the chance to change their mind within a reasonable amount of time. read more

Great place to buy all sorts of little home decor items and gifts for friends and family. Its nice to finally have a store in Arcata in the same vein as Pottery Barn or Crate and Barrel. I purchased a custom couch from Plaza a few months ago and could not be happier. The staff spent a lot of time with me to make sure that the couch was exactly what I wanted. Even though I had to wait 8 weeks for the couch to be made (from what I understand this is typical for a custom furniture order), I am thrilled with the purchase. read more

I was very happy they offered that service, but I gave my friend his gift last night and the Plaza employee didn't take off the price sticker! Why?! Impressive selections here. Spent 4 days in Arcata and found this gem of a store. Great quality gifts and high end products from different places all in one place (They even had Sugarfina!). We really enjoyed perusing the unique items and well made furniture. Definitely worth looking into. Shopkeepers were very friendly and helpful. I'm giving Plaza 2 stars only because they have many good items to decorate your home with. Unfortunately the sales associates are rude, that is if they even bother to acknowledge your existence. I moved up here with whatever could fit in my car, I was ready to decorate an entire house and buy everything new. The hand full of times I've gone in there, I can say I've only been acknowledge twice when I walk in the door. Sales Associates don't seem to think they have to approach their customers and ask if they need help or assistance finding something. Few days before Christmas I walked in, last ditch effort, once again, no one acknowledge that I came in and was looking around. There were 2 associates behind the counter working with 1 customer. I was looking at the jewelry which is right in front of the cashier and yet no one bother to ask if I needed help. I picked out a beautiful necklace and ring for my mother, stood in front of the cashier and neither of the ladies acknowledge that I was there, so after standing there WAITING for 5 minutes for the 2nd associate to ring me up, I decided to put back the goods and leave. Yet again, no one said anything. These ladies act like their working in a boutique in Beverly Hills!! Drop the bougie attitude, realize you work and live in Humboldt County (NOT LA or Beverly Hills), and start treating your customers the way you want to be treated. Your sales associates are incredibly rude and you guys just missed out on a HUGE HUGE HUGE sale - an entire house had to be decorated with furniture, accessories and window coverings. I guess I don't fit the Plaza's idea of a valued customer. Being treated like this is the very reason why I will not support this local business. read more

I visited Arcata for the first time a few days ago. The store caught my eye as I walked down the sidewalk to explore this small town after visiting the Redwood Forest. The esthetic of the shop was beautiful I ventured further in and saw really adorable items that my 5 year old niece would have adored. I took pictures of some items so that I could remember what I saw in order to purchase later, assuming they had a website as I had not intended on purchasing any larger items as I had to travel back to the east coast. As I perused the aisle looking at the cuteness I noticed an employee in the same area as me. Thinking nothing of it I continued with what I was doing, about a minute passed and I noticed her still straightening up things that to me looked to already be in place. Again I continued with what I was doing, until I looked to my left and purposefully observed her actions. As the curly hair young woman straightened up already perfectly straightened books while never allowing me to leave her line of sight I caught on to exactly what was happening. I moved to the other side of the store just to test my theory and again there she was. I am as you may have guessed a person of color, a black afrocentric women, that has never stolen anything in her life. My love of furniture and all things decor drew me into the store not a predisposition for theft because of the color of my skin and I feel sad for anyone that feels that because I am black I will do them harm. Being racially profiled and stereotyped is not new for most black people or people of color in general it is so ingrained in our understanding of social interactions that most of us are super sensitive to the way we are perceived in public. Though the reality is such it is still something that I have no tolerance for and refuse to sit idly by and allow to happen to me or anyone else. This store will never be a place where I spend my hard earned money and believe me I loved so much that that store had on display I would have spent a lot of my income there. THE funniest greeting cards I've seen anywhere. But wait, that's not why I'm writing. I'm writing to let folks know that the customer service at Plaza is great. I purchased a pair of 'Peepers' reading glasses from them. After only 2 months, the glasses broke. I was disappointed and decided to ask if they could assist me in a repair or replacement. Well, they did exactly that! They ordered a new pair for me, no charge, and called me when they came in. Now that's great customer service! Thanks, Plaza. I'll definitely be back :) read more

This place carries a lot of great products. It is a place I come for gifts usually, but not for things for myself since it is a tad expensive. It is located on the...you guessed it...plaza :) I love perusing the store on an Arts Arcata! night. Not only is this boutique quaint and filled with remarkable pieces sourced locally around Humboldt county, the staff is so helpful and kind. In the short time I was visiting the small town this store definitely make the list on the must go to places in Humboldt county. The elegant well composed windows of the store made it impossible to not go in! The moment I walked in I was greeted by two employees who were quick to ask me if I needed any assistance and genuinely asked if I was having a good weekend. I had a brief conversation with a young girl who asked me how I was enjoying my vacation and recommended other places to go to in the area. It is Coustomer service like this that makes not only Arcata but the Plaza a must go to location. Also my son enjoyed the books and trinkets I purchased for him and I cannot even count the amount of compliments I have received on the jewelry and kitchen accessories I purchased there!!!! Plaza is a wonderful boutique style shop that has a little bit of everything. It's been the perfect place to find Christmas gifts for everyone in such a way that I buy one really nice thing instead of a bunch of little things that won't last very long. And while it does have a lot of high-end, somewhat pricey stuff there's also plenty of things that won't break the bank but are high-quality and thoughtful. I have to admit I've also splurged on a couple of really nice leather bags that are going to last me for a really long time - and that's saying something for a person like me that tends to where things out quickly. The other great thing about plaza is the people who work there are helpful and sweet and really give it a neighborhood feel. It can be months and months between visits there but they always remember me. Quality shopping and quality people would be my summary of Plaza. read more

Plaza WAS my favorite store on the plaza. I would stop in just to browse and always end up buying something. After my recent experience, I will not spend another dime. I recently stopped by to shop for a Mother's Day present. I noticed a couple with two standard size poodles looking in the window. Then, much to my surprise, they walked in the store. I thought that the staff would kindly ask them to leave their dogs outside while they shopped. It was quite the opposite. The cashiers came out and fawned over the dogs like they were royalty. The dogs were blocking the jewelry cases, so I could not look at the items. In addition, one of the dogs rubbed his nose in some display pillows. It is not crazy to say that I would not want to spend $80.00, on a pillow that has dog slime on it. And, you know where dogs put their noses! So, in complete frustration, I asked the young man in the furniture department about Plaza's dog policy. He made it quite clear that all accommodations would be made for dogs; they had never had any problems. Well, now I can only hope that the owners of Plaza see it as problem. read more

Rude staff that looks you up and down as you shop. Sure, they have some nice stuff. If I am gonna pay that kind of money for items, I don't want to me made to feel like I am doing something wrong by looking. The treatment from the staff ruins whatever nice items they have. I went twice to go buy something, was treated rudely, set my items back, and walked out. Spend your money elsewhere. read more
