Nope. Nope nope nope nope. My family had brunch at Henry's yesterday, and it was my first (and hopefully last) time eating there. It was awful. But my main concern does not lie with the food (although the food was bad) - my main complaint is that I heard an employee taking a shit in the bathroom and then saw her leave without washing her hands. SO DISGUSTING! I know it was an employee because I saw her shoes and saw a female employee wearing the same shoes out in the dining area. I hope to God she did not touch anyone's food. I am not dead or sick yet, so I guess we're okay. Secondly, I pulled a big long hair out of my cup of ranch sauce about halfway through the meal... Enough to make anyone gag, I think, between those two things. The food itself was really bad too and not worth the hour we waited between getting a table and receiving our food. The restaurant was PACKED with people who, I guess, didn't have anywhere better to eat at? I wish we had gone to Denny's like we had originally planned to, but the choice wasn't up to me. I had a French dip sandwich with fries (see pic), and it would've been fine had the roast beef not smelled like wet dog and had a slimy texture.... Slimy! Beef isn't supposed to be slimy. It smelled so bad that I instantly lost my appetite and basically just ate the French roll with the Swiss cheese on it and the fries. The au jus it came with was also cold and not nearly salty enough to be real au jus. It had no real flavor whatsoever. Very, very bad all around. How is this place still in business? read more

I was very disappointed with my breakfast this morning. I order the waffles which were 10.95. They brought out 2 little squares of waffles. (Like if you had a 4 square waffle machine and you got half). You can get 3 pancakes for the same price and they are decent size. Also order a side for potatoes that had no seasoning at all. All 3 of us had to add salt and pepper. Not the same as when it is cooked with seasoning on it. Also, where they seated me, I sit on a scooter, I was bumped into at least 13 times, more but it was 13 times when I started counting, by a few customers but mostly by the waitresses. Not one apology for their staff. VERY RUDE. You sat me there and then continually bumped me. It's very annoying to have people bumping you continually. read more

Friendly Staff/Clean Environment/Delicious Entrees at Reasonable Prices/Tastefully Decorated/Ample Parking,etc. The Star of the show was Caitlin (hope I spelled her name right). She was genuinely friendly and highly efficient. She was very clear and upfront about the cost of any substitutions, which were well worth it...truly fresh fruit and pancakes for the regular choices. The 10 ounce steak was trimmed well and was AT LEAST 10 ounces. To top it off, it was 15 degrees cooler than Bakersfield up there and the air didn't smell like illegal fireworks! Cute little spot with seated quickly the waitress/hostess was very polite and quick, attentive but not overbearing. The food looked wonderful good portions. I had gotten the Viva French toast and a half order of the country gravy and biscuits. My only dilemma was everything was essentially flavorless. The French toast was pretty much just bread dipped in egg no vanilla extract no cinnamon the powdered sugar on top barely helped. the biscuit was fluffy, but the gravy on top tasted as if it had no sausage in it no matter how much salt and pepper I put on it. Despite our group size, the wait time for our food was impressively quick, and every dish was absolutely delicious--the biscuits especially . While the food is average to a bit above average, the service here is great. Very friendly. Feels a little like Cheers, especially if you go often. Very hometown feel. Ambiance is standard diner. Everything is night and day better quality than a Denny's or Carrow's or something like that, but it's all still diner fair. However, unlike other diners, I usually don't get a gut ache and bloating upon leaving here. If it passes my gut check, that's a win in my book. read more

We needed to stop in Tehachapi, so I Googled for restaurants. Henry's Cafe looked like the perfect place for breakfast. It was. We found a friendly place with an ambiance that could have passed for a 1950's style cafe if there had been a jukebox. Danika, our server, kept the coffee and conversation flowing, and brought one of the best omelets ever. They have a Create-your-own omelet very similar to Five Guys's burgers: up to 20 different meat, cheese, veggie, salsa, sour cream inserts/topping for the same price (currently $15.45). And if everything doesn't fit in the omelet, they spread more on top and on the side. I wish we lived closer to Tehachapi - there are lots of other menu items I'd like to try. Another point in its favor: The locals are regulars. That's always a good sign. Final note: I typically tip no more than 20%. Here I tipped 25%. read more

We came out here foe the annual Western Swingout. At nearly 1am the first night I went on Yelp and looked over all the breakfast spots in the area and this is the one that I chose to come with my group of friends. Did not disappoint!! Love that's a bit off the beaten path and away from the other weekenders. Definitely was the locals favorite. Wait wasn't too long (15 min). Parking was plenty. The decor is nothing to brag about. For coffee drinkers, there's only brewed coffee but it's a good one with unlimited refills! I love how the menu offers you light eat portions so you can order less if you didn't want a bug plate of food. Everything was good breakfast food and our favorite was the French toast. Something about that syrup!! The homemade biscuit was delicious too! The waitress even offered to split up the bill however many we wanted. Recently I was in Tehachapi and decided to get lunch at Henry's Cafe. Atmosphere: Henry's Cafe has both indoor and outdoor seating available. The outdoor seating is plastic card tables, but it's always appropriately spaced. Inside Henry's Cafe, there are plenty of booths, tables, and a bar. Henry's Cafe was also all dressed up for the Holidays, and I always appreciate a diner that does that. Food: Henry's Cafe menu has everything you imagine in a diner. There is an all-day breakfast, including pancakes, eggs, and omelets. Plus, you can even build your own omelet. Lunch options included several types of salad, burgers, and sandwiches. I saw someone with one of their salads, and it looked massive! You can find Henry's Cafe full menu here. I was in more of a lunch mood and decided to order the turkey, cranberry, and bacon melt. I haven't had one of those at a diner before! It came with exactly what it sounded like turkey, cranberry, bacon, and swiss cheese all on sourdough bread. I chose this because of a tip I read stating theirs is the best he had ever had . So of course I couldn't resist trying . It wasn't the best I've ever had , but it was tasty and you're given a big portion . It is such a good value . I was a little disappointed that they use instant potatoes. But given how inexpensive the meal is , I understand why they use instant . My kids really enjoyed their meals and so did my parents . They all were served large portions as well . Looking for a good breakfast joint in Tehachapi? Henry's Cafe is the place to go. You may have to wait awhile on weekends because they are popular, but they are worth the wait. I had no intention to finish my entire meal. I like leftovers. My order of Chicken Fried Steak with hash browns, eggs, and toast left me happy and full.
