This post office is still just as bad, actually worse than before which is hard to believe. I went into this same post office - unwillingly - because a package was sent via USPS which I NEVER choose as a shipping method. I went into the post office and as usual there was a line of about 7 people. By the time I got to a window it was a line of about 15 people. You could hear the partying in the back, again, and there were more times when there were NO attendants at the window than when they were there. Every time they went to the back to get a package they were gone between 10 and 20 minutes at a time. To make matters worse, they were "Out of Stamps", at around 2 in the afternoon on a weekday. What the heck?!?!?! A Post Office that doesn't have stamps to sell. It wouldn't surprise me if all the stamps grew legs and walked away from behind the counter, but someone should be minding the store and ordering more inventory when it runs out. EVERYTIME I order something cute it gets lost. My postal guy is a old player style dude w/missing teeth. I went to ask him a question and he told me to wait because he was on a phone call (while he was delivering the mail) he then proceeded to argue with his gf loudly on the sidewalk. SHE probably gets all of my cute things, THEY say "the address was incorrect/package undeliverable" YEAH right! UPS/FED EX sure can deliver and gets my address correct. I called to complain and was put on hold for 30 mins. I NO LONGER DEAL WITH COMPANIES THAT USE THE UNITED STATES POSTAL SERVICE FOR DELIVERIES. Probably the worst delivery and customer service I have experienced in my life. Shipped package to the wrong address. It happens, I wasn't too frustrated about it. So I called this post office since my package was at this location. On the third call, they finally answered their phone and put me on hold for 15 minutes after I hung up. I am writing this review because I received the worst customer service imaginable. The 2 previous times I have been to this location there has always been a line. Grant it there are EXTREMELY SLOW.....I hope you're never in a hurry....I came to pick up a package and after I gave her the information with the tracking number and address. It took 10 minutes to locate it. I hear the employee having unrelated business conversations with other employees during the whole search.I saw her pass by once during the whole time with no acknowledgement. This is the worst post office I have ever been to in my life and I've encountered many. In the 5 years I've lived in Hyde Park and Kenwood, they have either lost my packages, claimed they delivered them and didn't or put a delivery note on my door when they didn't ring the doorbell. EVERY SINGLE TIME I am in there, there is an angry customer whose package they can't find and I'm in line at a minimum of 45 minutes. They have no updated technology, therefore I have to wait 45 minutes to buy some freaking stamps instead of buying them at an automated machine. I just got a delivery notice when I went out of town on Friday and I almost cried when I realized I have to go there to pick up my package today. read more

I always dread picking up a package here. Just a few days ago, I went to pick up a parcel. It was 11:00am. I didn't leave until 12:15. Yep, 12:15PM! They only had one person in the front yet you can hear tons of people in the back laughing, shouting and talking. The location was filled with people simply waiting to just pick up packages and when one customer said something about it, the lady in the front had the nerve to get an attitude about it! Staff are terribly slow and not at all customer focused. Routinely a single queue open and just a bunch of staff milling about in the back. No organization at all so picking up a package still means waiting in a long line for the single slow moving queue. The comparison to UPS or other businesses where lines move quickly and employees are jumping to help when lines lengthen is stark. read more

If I could rate them -1 starts I will! These incompetent employees does not know how to do their job. I recently had a problem with them when my package couldn't be delivered due to the fact that my name was not on the mail box. When I tell you the person who told me that almost got punch in her face for telling that idiotic lie, when I'm trying to figure out if name not on the mail box how in the hell I'm still getting actual mail and letters. But the most idiotic thing is when delivering mail and package that these mail man/women seem to not have the brains power to realize that "oh the door bell doesn't work, maybe I should call and let them know I'm down stairs with their package!" This is the worst post office I've ever seen. They don't have any since of urgency. The lines are always to the back of the building. There is one lady that seems to work really hard but she can't do it by herself. There's one lady that seems to always be on break or something when I come in because she always return with a pack of cigarettes in her hand and takes her time to re-open her window. Others just tend to walk by without trying to help. And the supervisors seems to only come out when someone request to speak to one. Also I believe that the mail persons don't deliver packages because the Majority of the people that visits this office are people picking up non-delivered packages. When you walk into this place, you hear a million (exaggerated to a degree) people behind the walls, yet only one and a half come to the service window. One and a half because one person stays planted at the window, while the other person disappears every so often. I hate that I have to deal with the people there and customer service, I won't elaborate on because it fucking sucks! The ONLY God honest reason why I haven't reported them is because jobs are scarce during these times and I do not want to see another one of my brother and/or sisters in the welfare line.... But if their lack of consideration persists I'll be forced to escort them to the nearest unemployment office... Where they belong! Carrier delivered a certified mail slip along with my regular Friday... Why she didn't ring door bell is still puzzling me... anyway I take slip to post office Monday morning...oh to my surprise they can't locate my piece of mail...I left my phone number but of course no call back.... Call Tues morning and spoke with Ms Moore who informed me that my mail wasn't lost and if not delivered within 15 days they would return it to sender...then she decided to place me on hold only after telling me who I needed to contact to get this certified letter redelivered....WTH....Why don't I have this letter...matter fact Ms Moore why doesn't the post office have it either??? This is by far the worst post office in the Hyde Park area! If you call the office to speak to any of the staff, the automated voice sends you to the operator: which is nothing but a busy signal!!! The delivery carriers of this location are completely incompetent! They don't ring the doorbell to notify customers of deliveries that require signatures, no do they carry out deliveries when they are rescheduled. I don't understand why this post office has such awful reviews. I went in during the week to complete a passport application for the Peace Corps (which is a pretty unusual process), and the clerks were nothing but helpful. They are all incredibly kind, and helped me through the passport process step by step. I would not hesitate before coming back to this post office. I gave this post office three, count them, THREE times to re-deliver a package that I was supposed to receive before Christmas. Now two weeks later I still do not have my package. I have been patient, polite and apologetic (for whatever reason) when things seemed hectic or out of sorts at the post office. I read the reviews before calling this establishment and was aware of the complaints filed against them. Therefore, I remained polite and courteous when originally calling (I called eight times before someone finally picked up). It seems as if the negative reviews do not really help improve this post office, which is unfortunate, because I truly believe the workers there can be helpful..however, they are a bit lost. It is terribly depressing that these individuals do not care that they tainted a young ladies christmas due to their laziness, lack of professionalism and all around cruel nature. For years I have tolerated poor service/delivery from this station. Today was the final straw: the mailwoman left a notice claiming "attempted delivery," but she NEVER rang my bell. This has happened previously. Regularly mail is placed in wrong boxes, and DAILY she sits in front of the building talking on her cell phone before delivering mail --once I clocked 30-minutes. Huh? My rating is actually no stars! This has got to be the worst Post Office in the whole of Chicago - if not the country? The staff are always rude, lazy and so unhappy with having to serve their customers. If you ask for a supervisor they wilt claim no one is available. I now work to have any deliveries sent to my office so I will not have to be subjected to tolerating the disrespectful service of this Post Office. My mail is often to almost always mis-handled when I have to go into this station. One experience included my being told that my package had been returned - but after demanding to speak with a Supervisor, the package is miraculously found? Really? Was there today for passport purposes. First was really skeptical about this place because of the negative reviews. Have to say that the service we received was really good. Waiting time wasn't too bad(there were lots of people but all the clerks were working/helping customers the whole time). Wish I knew the clerk's name who helped us today. This is the worst post office I have had to deal with. I hate the place, what nothing I can do. I had a package delivered and the carrier left it to someone in the building, who I don't know. He did not have permission to leave it with anyone, we have large mail boxes for packages that can not fit into the letter box. This carrier comes whenever he likes, so it very hard to catch him at the mail box. When i call about my package I was told i had to call in the morning and talk to the carrier, which is a lie, they answer the phone. Three days later and I can't find my package. So sad. read more

ONE WORD. HORRIBLE. This has been a nightmare. I will NEVER go send, mail, anything at this location. I overnighted a package, it clearly states on the receipt if not delivered "REFUND GUARANTEED". The company I overnighted the package to NEVER received my sensitive documentation. They refused to give me my money back. I have had to file an investigation with customer service AND contact consumer affairs, they keep insisting "someone at the FIRM" received it, it was never received. This is the first time and LAST time I overnight anything from this location. I will be contacting the Sun Times about this. If my item was never received and nobody seems to know where my package is, I should not have to argue with this many people to be given back something that is owed to me for failure of delivery. I have had a relatively good experience with this post office, but my current experience is just another supporting evidence of why this post office has earned the reputation of being a real pain in the buttocks. I asked my mail to be held until January 3 because I was visiting my family over the Christmas break. The good part is, they did hold my mail, as my EMS tracking showed. The bad part is, they have not delivered my held mail, even though they can't find them in the post office. And worst of all, when I tried to call them, no one is answering the phone, not even after it had been ringing for 10 minutes straight. My roommate has had similar experiences. WHY ON EARTH DID THEY EVEN INSTALL A PHONE LINE IF OBVIOUSLY NO ONE IS ANSWERING? I'm almost sure that if I call them and just let the phone ring for the whole day, still no post office employee would answer. Strangely enough, the one time I did call them about how to request the hold mail service, someone did answer, I guess I just lucked out then. read more

This post office has got to contain the laziest, most dishonest, good for nothing employees in the city. I have gone around in circles for days trying to file a complaint and speak with a supervisor over the utterly inept mail carrier who is assigned to my route. Being a unioned and salaried position I imagine she just wants to do as little work as possible to get her route done as quickly as possible. On several occasions my husband and I have had certified mail go undelivered, while we were at home because she doesn't want to take the time to ring the door bell and wait for us to come down and sign for the packages. That might add 2 precious minutes to her workday. We have also had incidents where our amazon prime packages (with their guaranteed delivery dates) be marked as delivered, but we didn't receive them until days later. When my husband or I have to inevitably go to the post office on Saturday to pick up the undelivered packages ( because it is much easier on our letter carrier to have us to her job) the lines are out the door and service is lazy and slow. Now we have to have time sensitive packages delivered to my husband's office, downtown, since we know we can't rely on this scourge of the earth to do it. read more

OMG....I wrote a post 3 years ago on YELP, you would think in most cases people, person and things change in 3 years but not this post office actually it's worse. I don't get a thrill about writing negative statements but I am just exhausted with this post office. I live in a garden/basement unit on the side of my building so I was told they could not and would not deliver my mail because the carrier had to go down stairs making it unsafe for the carrier....okay I had the landlord move my box on the main level of the building with everyone else mailbox, did that work?.....NO. Now I get my neighbors mail or people who aren't occupants of the building and whats worse I am not getting all my mail. Can these carriers READ?....I think not or maybe its how their trained. I would guess my neighbors is getting my mail....most neighbors are new in the building and may not know that someone lives in the basement of the building. Recently my husband died...his union sent out benefit forms, did I get them?....NO. I hear horror stories about the post office service but to experience this type of service for the 5 years I have lived in this community is just unheard of. There is consistency of poor service that I have never witnessed in any other post office, restaurant, lemonade stand etc. The majority of the employees can be heard through the walls, lounging around while one (never more) attendent serves anywhere from a few to a dozen customers. The response to complaints is always 'speak to corporate' and the feeling of dissatisfaction is shared by everyone who has ever been here. Employees seems to share the equivalent of feeling that their position to serve the general public is beneath them and does little to hide this. Management needs to either retrain (or quite preferably rehire) the employees to meet at least the minimum standards for service. read more

I don't even know where to begin with this negative review. So many bad experiences at this Post Office. Lets start with the package that I never recieved and mysteriously disappeared. I have a pick up notice in my hand, but they cannot produce the package. When I asked to speak with the manager or supervisor on duty, he hid and never came to discuss what my options were to resolving the problem. I was then allegedly given his office phone number. Guess what? He never answered. The worst customer service a consumer could ever experience. I had to contact Ancesty.com and ask them to reissue another DNA kit. This time I was smart enough to have it shipped to my parents house in Rockford. Guess what? I got the kit. Thank goodness Ancestry.com understood customer service and appreciates their consumers. If they did not I would have been out of pocket an additional $100 to purchase another kit. Lets address the oath of delivering mail through rain, hail, sleet and snow. I guess that no longer exist, and must be considered throw back rhetoric. I am hadicapped so during the recent snow storm here in Chicago the snow removal service I utilize was overwhelmed with jobs. They finally got around to shoveling my front poarch on January 8th around 2:00pm. I was tracking a package and saw that it had arrived at this facility on the same date. I knew the snow removal company would not make it to my house in time to beat the postal delivery person. I tried to call the phone number that consistently goes unanswered. It would probably be wise for the USPS 800 customer service number to stop giving it out. I get off work at 11:30, in which, I rush from Schaumburg to get to the post office and arrived around 12:45. I go to the window with the tracking number on my phone. The agent checks and confirms the package is not there. I advise her of my porch situation in which she says I should track the number, because the package is not on the premises. Couldn't she do that? If she would have made the effort to look it up in their system she would have known that a delivery attempt was made. Unfortunately I had to get home to track the number only to find out the postal delivery person made the decision to send my package back to the shipper after only one attempt!?!?!? So now in in the phone with the USPS 800 number filing case numbers to have them hold or re-deliver my package. :-( read more
