Henry Flach has been on my list to visit for a while and let me tell you it did not disappoint! It was pretty busy when we arrived (both bar and dining room) so be prepared to wait a little bit- it's worth it! Our server was super friendly, engaging, and attentive. When you walk in you enter near their large bar and behind that is their dining room- very cozy space. Despite being busy it wasn't loud so you could easily carry on a conversation at your table which was great! We ordered the rumaki to split (super crispy and delicious!) then I ordered the filet and truffle fries (both excellent!). We had old fashioneds to drink and ordered a grasshopper for dessert (yum!) Unassuming neighborhood spot in West Allis, but when you enter you feel like you've stepped into a traditional Wisconsin supper club - wood paneled walls with animal decor, a bar to cozy up to for some drinks and separate dining area. The food is top notch! Steaks are cooked to perfection. Mashed potatoes were delicious. The drinks: amazing! The seasonal old fashioned and pink squirrel were on point. Service was amazing, the staff were very accommodating and attentive. Prices are more than reasonable. A great option for steaks on a budget, with a relaxed, come as you are vibes in a cozy haunt. In the quest to go to all the steak/supper clubs in the Milwaukee area, it was time to go to Henry Flach. We showed up on a Saturday after the boat show. Ambience was definitely local supper club. We knew there were no reservations, so we were cool to wait at the bar for a table. Ty helped us at the bar. We were seated after one drink and ordered an appetizer and steaks. The calamari was really good. We had the National Ave Tenderloin and the New York Strip. Steaks come with a potato and veggie. Steaks were good but not great, but in line with the price point. My guess is that the grade of beef is not the same as some of the other higher priced steak houses. Broccoli could have been cooked a little less, also. 37th birthday dinner made to be stressful and disappointing. I called January 7th after seeing in their website they don't take reservations. Some lady answered and kept calling me hun saying I'll put you down hun. She said it was no problem because it was for a special occasion. Fast forward to last night me and my 7 guests show up for dinner and the general manager tells me "we don't take reservations". I told him some lady said she would take my reservation but because I didn't have a name he couldn't believe what I was saying to be true. He said I will try to get you a table in the next half hour while other guests have to wait 1-2 hours making me feel like I was inconveniencing him. An hour later we finally got seated. Mind you the whole first hour standing in a cramped- way too full bar - is not fun. So we were given 2 free apps for the "misunderstanding". Our waitress forgot my friends wine - not the biggest deal. Everyone but me ordered a prime rib and they were all mostly fat. I was willing to overlook the whole reservation thing if the food was worth the wait, but it was not. The best thing I ate was truffle fries. I had heard good things about it and was excited to try. Let's start with the service. The server told us it might still be happy hour but she wasn't sure. We ordered steak tips and Shrimp and scallop pasta. The steak was flavorless and tough. The shrimp and scallops also had no flavor. The pasta was overdone so it was a mushy mess. The entrees were served on a tiny plate which made it a struggle to not spill on the table. Our server never asked how our food was. We had to flag her down to get the bill. The place isn't very big so we could see that she was just socializing at the bar. The ambience is that of a West Allis sports bar complete with the Brewers game on. Henry Flach was a new to us steakhouse so we decided to explore it and we decided to celebrate Friendsgiving there in 2024. Since it is a sister restaurant of Natty Oaks (which is our neighborhood bar and we absolutely love that place), we definitely had high hopes from it and it definitely delivered. The ambiance is cozy with a good bar area and a formal dinning area. Since they do not take reservations, get there early to enjoy drinks at the bar and dinner after. We enjoyed martinis and ol fashioneds at the bar and got a big table for the group in the dinning area after. We got the deviled eggs and salads for appetizers. It was very flavorful and we loved the pickle on top of the deviled egg. For entrée, we got the 16oz prime rib, 92nd Street Special USDA Prime Sirloin, Shrimp & Scallop Pasta and Airline Chicken Breast. First time I was at this restaurant, and had a great experience. The food was very tasty. Had a ribeye steak, you could cut with a butter knife it was so tender. My new favorite spot! Walked in on a Friday night and were seated right away. Had an amazing waitress who gave us recommendations on drinks and my martini was one of the best I have had in the area. In addition to being amazing it only cost 7 dollars. The onion strings were delicious, and then the steak and potatoes so so so good. I can't stop thinking about my steak and am craving to go again. The finally cherry on top was the shuttle to the Brewers game. Such a easy experience taking us to the game and dropping us right off. read more

Went there tonight after seeing one of those couples who do foodie things , the steak is melt in mouth delicious , the cheese curds and the chipotle ranch is the bomb , a little rustic of a place , smaller than I thought but those drinks while you wait are the bomb ! We live in the neighborhood and finally got around to checking this steakhouse out! My husband and I loved it & want to make it a regular spot. We dined on the patio with our son. It's on the corner of two busy streets so it's a bit loud but cute area if you want to eat outside. Everyone working was helpful and friendly. We split a Cesar salad as an appetizer. I ordered the my strip with a baked potato, while my husband got the ribeye and fries. We also ordered a side of Mac and cheese for our son (okay for me). Everything was delicious. The steaks come with mushrooms that I'm obsessed with. We ordered garlic butter for the steaks which is always a must. Steaks were cooked perfectly. Sides were great, especially the Mac and cheese!! Sorry, I don't have images, but they have really good images online. My son ordered the ribs. I had the pork schnitzel and my granddaughter. We were just gonna order her a cheeseburger and fries. The atmosphere was very welcoming good music playing, and the food was great. The ribs were very tender with the homemade barbecue sauce. You have to get the deviled eggs and the potato skins. The schnitzel was cooked perfectly with the right amount of gravy and the brussels sprouts were added touch. Everything was good. Try to make it during happy hour because the prices are right for drinks and appetizers. We were very pleased. Our service (Taylor) was impeccable and we will be back without my granddaughter. I haven't been here since it was Butch's Steakhouse and after discussing with friend's who's been there since Butch's had nothing but good things to say. Me and a friend was out and about I was getting a little peckish so we decided to come to HF for dinner but also I have been jonesing for a steak. There wasn't any room in the main dining room, but managed to snatch up a table by the door. Our waitress came over to get our drink order and normally I like a glass of red wine with my steak, but you can't help but not order a martini from their long selection list. I went with a strawberry lemon drop which was quite tasty and my friend went with his typical PBR. After our waitress brought our drinks to our table, we were ready to place our order. We both went with the 14oz. New York strip (cooked medium), my friend went with fries and I decided to go with a baked potato and thought what the hell. I went ahead and added a 4 oz. lobster tail. With the restaurant as busy at it was, we still received our order in a timely fashion and didn't have to wait long. The steak looked good and couldn't wait to dig into it. It was the lobster tail I thought looked super plain. Well I will was correct. First off it was half a lobster tail and was not seasoned at all. If it was boiled in some Old Bay it would've been a different story, so I was hoping the drawn butter would've helped in the flavor department. Well, the butter was a disappointment as well. I feel that it was maybe unsalted butter that they used, but i added some salt in the butter and it helped give it some flavor that it needed. My friend even tried it was actually surprised the blandness of it. Now the steak? Fantastic! It was juicy, seasoned very well and cooked just as requested. When the waitress stopped by to check on us to see how things were, I informed her that I didn't want to fuss but the lobster tail was pretty bland and even my friend vouched for me as well. She apologized about this and took the lobster tail off the bill. I told her there that she didn't have to apologize because it was not her fault. Surpassed my expectations. Our server started us off with some complimentary (& delicious) bread and Irish butter. The shoestring onions we had as an appetizer were hot and fresh. The food except for the appetizer was the worst. I work in food service and I usually give a restaurant a chance, but it very bad to worse. Just so you know the food on the web doesn't look like the food you get at least not in mine and my boyfriend case. I ordered the tips and mushrooms and after taking one bit. The sauce was so greasy. My boyfriend had a ribeye that wasn't cooked the way he ordered it, he didn't complain. The waitress asked me if I wanted a to go box and I said no. I can not eat this food. She did offer me a replacement. I was going to take her up on it but decided to give the food another chance. I ordered a steak rare to medium rare so that when I reheated it the next day t would still be juicy. I wanted a loaded baked potato with everything on the side. She said ok and placed the order. Then she had to come out and tell me that they ran out of bake potatoes. I wasn't happy but I took mashed. Once we got the order we paid the bill and went home. That where it doesn't end. The steak is burnt, no sautéed mushrooms like advertised on the menu. 3 piece of broccoli and dried old mashed potatoes. My boyfriend said beside the seasoning being raw on his order. It was good. They gave us the appetizer for free. Which was rurmiki , I did have to pay the difference in the meals even though I didn't get everything that was suppose to come with the steak and the steak was burnt. This place has been a favorite for awhile. However, I am disappointed they got rid of their crab cakes and steak tips. I understand costs of everything are going up but at least have them be a special once a week or something like that. Those were some of the best items on your menu. We went at 5 p.m., which was perfect because we were able to take advantage of their happy hour (so glad they still offer that on Fridays!). My martini was absolutely delicious, and I was pleasantly surprised and impressed that they gave me the shaker - such a nice touch to avoid any wasted cocktail! The waiter was very accommodating to put a new table together to seat us as there was a large group dining when we arrived. The food was excellent! I had a filet perfectly done to a medium rare accompanied by sauteed mushrooms. My wife had the scallops and shrimp pasta with the vodka sauce on the side. The seafood was also done to perfection and the sizes were plentiful. The drinks were delicious! We both finished with their carrot cake desert. Moist and moderately sweet. They don't rush you through your meal which was appreciated. The only downside was the dining room was a bit noisy due to the party next to us and the decor was a bit dated. I've been hearing such good things about this hidden West Allis gem so we decided to check it out for our anniversary dinner. While they don't take reservations, we only waited about 10 minutes on a Friday night. Our server was friendly and attentive. My mango berry martini was delicious and reasonably priced! We split the calamari appetizer and it was delicious, flavorful and tender. We each had the 8oz filet as well and they were flavorful and perfectly cooked! I'd say a hair salty for my liking but still delicious! We agreed that this is a great place that is reasonably priced and would definitely return moving forward! read more

Wow, this place screams Milwaukee in all the best ways. Friendly service and patrons, good, hearty food, and an accessible down to earth atmosphere. We were looking for a casual steak place that wasn't a cookie cutter chain restaurant. What a gem we found in Henry Flach Steakhouse. The food here is of a much higher quality than the prices would have you believe. We went in in a Friday, so nearly everyone in the place was there for fish fry (I'm telling you--Milwaukee!) but we had absolutely delicious steaks worthy of a high end steakhouse. We subbed creamed spinach and mac and cheese for the fries that come with the meal for a very reasonable up charge. Steaks were cooked *exactly* as we ordered them (med and med rare) and had the most perfect crispy, flavorful sear on the outside-truly expertly prepared. Sides and bread were very tasty, and the mushrooms that come with the steaks are tiny buttons and garlicky-delicious. Went with a group of six at 7pm on a Saturday. They do not take reservations, so we sat at the bar and enjoyed a couple old fashioneds. The bartender did mess a few things up, but was very polite. We waited approximately 45 minutes before being seated. We started with some deviled eggs and rumaki. Both were very good, especially the rumaki. We all had a variety of food ranging from pork belly to ribeye and New York strips. My New York strip was very good, but almost all of the steaks that were requested to be medium rare were medium at best. The rice that came with the pork belly was extremely tough and hard to eat. The pork belly and Brussels had a great flavor though. Our server was a delight and was very polite. All of the staff was. I live down the street from this place, and finally made it in. Glad I did! We were with a group of 11. We ordered the Rumaki, deviled eggs, and crab cakes. The Rumaki was outstanding! My sister used to make it for family gatherings, and I'd forgotten how much I love it. The deviled eggs were good. My husband liked the crab cakes more than I did. I always think I'm going to like them more than I do, and he's the opposite. I ordered the teres major shoulder tenderloin. I upgraded from fries to the potatoes Lyonnaise. The flavor of my steak was really good, but after reading beforehand that teres major was a tender cut, I expected the texture to be better. The potatoes were outstanding, but I think the mushrooms were my favorite part. My husband ordered the steak tips, which were served over mashed potatoes. I had a bite of his, and the steak was SO tender! Everything was really flavorful, and when I go there again that's what I'll be ordering. A few other people ordered it as well and everyone that did loved it. My only real complaint is that there were no cherries in my kiddie cocktail. It was worth it. The overall quality of the food was fantastic. My boyfriend and I both order the 92nd st steak and it was delicious. Very juicy, flavorful, and cooked to the temp we specified. The crust on the outside was perfect. Boyfriend isn't a fan of mushrooms so he specified no mushrooms, but next time I'm making him get them so I can steal them off his plate because they were quite tasty by themselves. For 4 cocktails, and 2 steaks, with sides, and table bread, our total came out to about $100. The wait was worth it. The server was fantastic. It's a cute spot. We'll definitely be back. I tried this place out for the first time a few weeks ago, and I probably won't be coming back. When I walked into the restaurant it smelled stale and old. The service was okay, I was greeted fairly quickly, but there were times where the bartender was talking with her friends at the bar so I was difficult to get another drink or the cheque (the bar was almost empty aside from me and about three other guests). The spicy shrimp was delicious, it was the best thing that I had there. However, my New York strip was very tough and lacked seasoning. Loved the vibe of this place. You enter through the bar and if it's early enough, you can just seat yourself. Great pour on the drinks and service was good. The team really hustles and works together. I'll start with the good. The Guamya Shrimp (butter and garlic) was fantastic. Perfectly prepared and seasoned. My husband ordered the baked cod with potato pancakes and both were delicious. It was a generous, large fillet, again prepared and seasoned perfectly. I wish I had ordered the cod. Now, I know it's a steak house, but I was excited to try the Pan Seared Walleye (seen on the menu listed on the website). That was not available but the table card said a Blackened Mahi Mahi was--so even better! Unfortunately, that was also not available...I decided fish was not in the cards for me that evening and switched gears to order Thee HF Cheeseburger: beef, gouda, mushrooms, horseradish cream sauce, bacon, red onion, and mixed greens. How could that be wrong, right? It looked beautiful but the beef patty was more like a big meatball )not sure if that's always how they are served or not) but it made it difficult to eat and sadly was also over cooked and dry. It had some seasoning in it that made it take like a little like garlic/Worcestershire and meatloaf. So all of the other elements that sounded so interesting just didn't work for me. Totally subjective but it just felt like there was too much going on and not for me. I think Henry's hit my radar when we checked out Natty Oaks. According to a Journal Sentinel article they aim to be a blue collar steakhouse. On a Saturday night at about 6:00 I would agree. Not a fancy vibe at all, even mildly rowdy for a bit, but it definitely quieted down in the bar by 7:10 or so. We got a couple of seats at the bar and decided to eat there. They had Louis Martini cabernet by the glass for $10, so that was nice for me. I ordered a 6 oz filet at $25, a good value. I went with the upcharge for garlic creamed spinach as my side (otherwise it comes with fries), and steaks are served with mushrooms and a toasted piece of bread. I really enjoyed the spinach! It was fresh looking, garlicky, spicy and creamy. I dipped my bread in the cream sauce. My steak was tender and nicely prepared to temp. All in all, good food, good prices and good people taking care of us. According to our bartender, the Butch's Pub and Eatery staff were kept with the place, so apparently there's some history between the charred steak preparation and the service. We'll keep this on our list for good steaks at a nice value close to downtown. read more

Our first visit to Henry Flach's was a mix of hits and misses. We stopped in on a Friday night and were able to find 2 seats at the very busy bar. The bartender was on point from start to finish keeping our drinks filled along with filling orders for the dining room. This place doesn't take reservations and this is where things got a bit weird. No one really stood out as a host or hostess and with no reservations we weren't really sure how to go about securing our table for dinner as we did not want to eat at the bar. We asked the bartender and she replied "I'll see what they got available " We were in no hurry and ordered another round of drinks. Soon after that a gentleman approached us and said he had a table ready for us but it was a high top that was situated kind of halfway in the bar and halfway in the dining room. We said we would wait for a regular table in the dining room and not a high top. After a short wait we were seated in the dining room and given menus. Then we sat for at least 10 or 15 minutes as staff ( who were busy) walked back and forth past our table over and over without acknowledging us at all. No hello we'll be right with you. No waters. No one even really made eye contact. Both my wife and I have been in food service for over 30 years this started to rub us the wrong way. Again they were busy but we thought we should have at least been acknowledged by this point. Finally, as a waiter was walking by, I stopped him and asked " Is someone going to take our order?" He spun around and simply said "Sure what would you like?"No hello, no "Welcome to Henry Flach's" no " sorry for the wait." It was kind of strange. We ordered apps, Crabcake and bread for the table. Bread does not come with the meal and is charged for. For entree's we had NY Strip and the Shrimp and Scallops pasta dish. . About ten minutes later a young lady came to our table and said "Hi I'm so and so, and I'll be taking care of you". Obviously there was no communication between the staff as this person had no idea someone had already taken our order. Mind you, we had been at the table for approximately 25- 30 minutes by now. This is when you first approach your customers? From then on just about every staff member was at our table either to deliver food clear dishes or fill waters. Nothing wrong with team service it just seemed very unorganized at first but ended up being a very good meal. All of the food was delicious from the crab cakes to the steak to the pasta dish. In the end I wouldn't call the service "bad" it was unusual. I would not tell anyone not to try Henry Flach's if you enjoy a good steak. read more

We just moved in the area and heard good things about HF so once we were finally able to have a date night, we came here and it definitely did NOT disappoint! We got there late (due to babysitter time conflict) and was told the kitchen closed 10mins ago. We were of course disappointed but a very nice gentleman by the bar said he knew the owner soo let him go see what he can do. He came back and told us we were good and the waitress could seat us. (yay!!) (The waitress told us later that he was the owner lol) Our waitress was absolutely great, funny and made me one of thee best LemonDrop martinis I've had. My husband said his Old Fashioned was great too. The steak, mushrooms and fries were SO good and I'd definitely get them again.
