I have been a long time customer of Coach's Pub and understand that it is under new ownership. The new owner is a great guy who is very hands on and that's awesome. i'm pullin for you, bruh, but the pizza I got the other night was subpar and really not good. i ordered a 12" Favorite. The flavor was off. everything you would expect from a Coach's Favorite was not there and it really gave cheap frizen pizza in all areas. I'm not sure that was real cheese. if youve changed suppliers due to cost, well it showed right there. bummer. read more

Bar can sometimes be a little crammed, but we've always had a good experience. Food is good. I especially love their twist on boneless wings. They are very lightly breaded chicken strips basically. Picked up a Thanksgiving meal for 2 because e were too lazy to cook . Let me tell you. The plate had turkey, mashed potatoes, stuffing, green bean casserole a roll and a delicious homemade pumpkin pie for $22. It was a steal. Dinner was delicious. My family stopped in after picking me up from the airport. We had an awesome waitress that was thoughtful, quick, and friendly. The menu was extensive and all of the food was served in large portions. We started with mozzarella sticks that were cooked perfectly. I had the French onion soup. Coach's Big Boy Burger: There has never been a Big Boy restaurant in my area within my lifetime, so I've never eaten an actual Big Boy Burger. The burger seems incredibly similar if not the same as one of my childhood staples, McDonald's Big Mac. I realize that may be blasphemy to some, so forgive me. Coach's Pub 'N' Grill is a sports bar located on the south side of Milwaukee. I could not find much on their history, but it looks like they opened in 1999. Their version of the Big Boy Burger includes two beef patties, lettuce, cheese, and Big Boy sauce on a seeded bun. It tasted the way I remember Big Macs tasting as a kid, which is great. Coach's take on the sandwich is a definite upgrade as unlike the Big Mac it contains two slices of cheese instead of one, there was much more sauce, better tasting bun, and juicier patties. A McDonald's Big Mac suffers from a poor ratio of bun to meat (too bready, patties too thin), but Coach's ratio was spot on. Next time I'm craving a Big Mac I'll for sure head to Coach's instead. Doughboy approved *My only criticisms are minor and have nothing to do with the food. First, there is online ordering available but only by using the Toast app. The Toast app was not working properly when I tried using it, which was frustrating. I have had the fish and it was also good. Fries, two thumbs up. The pizza looks good, but I haven't tried it yet. Service has been good the times I have visited, but haven't received the best drinks. Ordered a double and it was very weak. Cozy little place to eat, but I haven't been there during the pandemic, as the last time was last February - pre Covid. I have driven past this place many times in my travels and never stopped by. Today I would make the trip through the first winter storm and was it well worth it. The place looks like your standard neighborhood bar and I was pleasantly surprised by my wonderful lunch experience today. The place looks like your cozy neighborhood bar with a U shaped bar with tiny tables in the front windows and a lower dining area in the back. Plenty of flat screens in all directions. There is about 12 different tap beers and I chose the Lakefront river west stein. The menu is standard bar food with burgers, wings, pizza, wraps, sandwiches etc but one thing stood out which was the Ruben. The Ruben cones with various sides. The place has a different soup of the day menu for December and I chose the loaded cheddar and potato as my side. What a great choice because this was no can and very good on a cold winter day, see my pictures. The soup was very creamy and cheesy with perfect potatoes, not too soft and not undercooked. There was firm pieces of bacon that just complemented everything and it was topped with shredded cheese. The Ruben came steaming to my table and looked perfect, see the pictures. You could tell just looking at it that it is the real deal, not deli sliced meat but hand carved corn beef. The marble rye was good quality and toasted perfect. The sauerkraut was fresh and crisp. The meat was lean/tender and moist and seasoned with nice melty Swiss cheese. This was a top quality Ruben with a quality side soup. This local bar is putting out great quality food that is way far from bar food and it is really a decent restaurant in a bar. The fact that they are not cheap or lazy because they don't just give chips for a side says a lot about the place. I will never go back. Ever. Coach's was in complete violation and disrespect of the COVID19 orders. We're in the thick of COVID19 under a Safer at Home order. Bars are closed and restaurants are allowed to do carry out or curbside. They advertise curbside on their social media, website and a banner outside their pub. I call and ask to place a "curbside order" and the woman on the phone responds "just come inside." The parking lot was full. Full. I walk into a full bar. There is no possible way to keep 6 feet between myself and others. There are multiple people sitting at the bar with drinks. Multiple people playing casino or arcade games within inches of each other. Kids, I came here for curbside. Definitely not this. My food wasn't ready. So I'm just waiting in this place with people in close proximity. No changes in behavior. No precautions. There was no place to go to be 6 feet apart from others because there were so many people. I've been trying to support small businesses. Many are doing curbside or carry out. I have never seen patrons gathered and milling about like this. One guy said out loud "I'm not getting any food" whilst he sat at the bar with a drink. Every other business that I've gone to has fully done curbside and if patrons are entering the building chairs are removed or turned over. This was business as usual. I get my food and left. I phoned and asked to speak with the manager and relayed my feedback. The manager may have been drinking. He raised his voice, got condescending and argumentative. Stated that he doesn't have capacity to do curbside service and won't "make customers wait outside." Businesses don't have to offer curbside service. But please don't advertise it and not actually offer it. It's why I choose this place. Good customer service means listening to customer feedback and working to make customers happy if you can do so. This phone call just made things worse. Absolutely, don't tell at me or blame things on me. As the manager told me that it was my fault. I've made concerted efforts to support small businesses as much as possible during this pandemic. This is a business that I will never again support in any fashion. Milwaukee's best kept secret on Fried Chicken, and Wings! They have got to be the best in the city, hands down! So fresh, hot, tasty, crispy and flavorful, with an assortment of sauces. I got the super hot one on the side, and that was delicious and HOT! Props to the cooks, and to the waitress. She's very fast and attentive. And those fries, WHAT DID YOU DO TO THOSE FRIES?!! Mouth Smack'n and Crispy. I got the herb and ranch flavor that was an outstanding compliment to the chicken wings and veggies. 1- take away was...that you cant get 2 sauces for an order of wings. So, that was a little bummer, otherwise you'll have to order another batch of wings with another sauce...but I guess you can get them on the side, which is NOT a show stopper. My 3rd Fish Fry for Lent 2014 took me to Coach's Pub & Grill in Milwaukee. It has a small private lot but plenty and available street parking on 13th street. In the outside rear area they have 2 volleyball courts and a place that looks like it is for bags. When you enter the bar the main and only bar is right at the entrance. Plenty of TVs to watch sports (perfect for March Madness) It looks like it seats about 20 around the bar and 4 and 4 more on 2 table tops of 2 along the side. In the main dinning area, there were about maybe 8 tables that were 4 tops. They also have a semi indoor heated deck area that had 7 tables - mostly 4 tops. The hostess station is to the right of the entrance and if we didn't go early (before 6 pm); we would probably have to wait about 15 to 20 minutes. We waited about 5 and were seated in the heated deck area. It was plenty warm they had the heat on...on to the fish. They had nice options for Fish Fry with reasonable prices - cod, tilapia, walleye, perch, blue gill, shrimp; sides: mashed potatoes (gravy optional), potato pancakes, regular fries, waffle fries, homemade chips, onion strings, onion rings; choice of soup: regular claim chowder or spicy cajun clam chowder or salad with your normal choices of dressing. Dinners start at $9.95 for the cod dinner (extra piece is $1.25 each) to the Fisherman's Platter for $14.50. You also have the choice to have buckets...yes I said buckets of fish to go: 8, 12, and 16 pieces of cod from $16.95 to $24.95 with choice of potato and rye bread. My wife had the cod dinner with mashed potatoes and gravy and clam chowder. I had the Fisherman's Platter (perch, blue gill, cod, & shrimp) with waffle fries and clam chowder. The chowder was a nice consistency packed with clams, potatoes, etc. We were off to a good start. The fish was probably the best we have had so far - even beating the catfish I had in Nashville. The fish were lightly breaded so that you could enjoy the actual taste of each fish. The blue gill maybe too fish for some. The waffle fries were a nice touch but the mashed potatoes looked good too. Our waitress - Jess - was very attentive, friendly, and very customer service focused. What I could tell the rest of the wait staff was the same. Awesome fish fry on Fridays!!!! Amazingly friendly waitstaff, fast efficient service, and delicious, fresh food. On the Friday that I visited Coach's, I ordered the salmon with mashed potatoes and clam chowder. Clam chowder was delicious, it is my favorite in Milwaukee ;) The salmon was flavorful and delicious and I loved the mashed potatoes. The other members in my dining group loved their choices as well - the poor man's lobster looked amazing and the standard fish fry was delicious (I tried a bite of the cod - yum yum!). Portion sizes are large. They gave us a small cookie when they delivered the bill. Come early as this place gets BUSY. They offer sand volleyball leagues and there was a game going on during our visit. You can dine inside and on the patio. The patio is enclosed and is also used during the cold months. Highly recommend and hope to return soon. They offer Fish Fry Buckets to go, which I would love to order! read more

Finally a decent fish fry on our 2015 Lenten fish fry tour! It had been years since I had their fish fry and my hopes were riding high and then BAM!....they nailed almost a perfect fish fry. For $10 you get 3 pieces of cod, soup or salad and your choice of side. Having been disappointed lately with fish fries, I didn't risk the potato pancakes. When others got their delicious potato pancakes I was filled with regret looking at my boring french fries. Again, having been burned a few times with limp, iceberg salads I opted for the clam chowder, The chowder was pretty good, but the salads were nice and crisp with romaine lettuce. Do I regret my choices? Life is full of regrets so that is why I can always come back and try the potato pancakes which were homemade deliciousness. The cod was lightly breaded and cooked light and flaky with lots of flavor in the breading. Rye bread was run of the mill as well as the coleslaw. Now let's talk about that supper club bread basket......a basket of gluten goodness with bread sticks, saltines, and butter. Service was spot on with our lovely server Linda who we honestly thought was just serving our table because she was so attentive. Linda was serving other tables but just had a knack to know when to check back on us. A couple of tips....call ahead during Lent for a reservation...sit on the patio if it is busy because it is heated (granted the chairs are plastic lawn chairs)....branch out and try their other fish fry options like perch, bluegill, walleye, shrimp....take out a bucket of fish if you don't have time to stay for dinner. read more

Coach's is just great little corner pub and grill. We end up there occasionally on Saturday afternoons for lunch and beers. Karen, the bartender, is great- greeting everyone by name if you've been in there a couple times. I usually can't stop myself from ordering the Reuben, I'm originally a Cleveland girl and damn if we don't love our corned beef. In general I've been disappointed by most corned beef in Milwaukee, but they do it well at Coach's. Again, as a native Clevelander I always hold the Thousand Island and add yellow mustard and sour cream. That is the classic way that it was served at the Silver Grille in Clevelandtown and I've always found it superior. Their waffle fries are what you'd expect but they also do make a great homemade potato chip. Wings seem to another big seller when we are in there, their chicken sandwich is also a winner. Decided to try out Coach's for the 1st time and give their fish fry a go. I was impressed. Cod was very good and the potato pancakes were to die for! They were made to perfection. Price of the fish fry comes with choice of soup or salad, I went with the spicy fisherman chowder which was another pleasant surprise. Service was very good. Servers were a bit older, which only means they are a bit wiser. This is a definite compliment. Servers being attentive/friendly/personable is a rare find these days and it seemed like all the servers where on point while I was there. Place is pretty small and the lot is even smaller (only holds 10 cars). Not too big of a deal for me, but I could see how size could be an issue for others as it got pretty loud inside. Place was packed and hostess told us it would be about 30 minutes. 15 minutes later we had a great table and were ready to order. After reading great reviews and seeing the crowd was excited for a good dining experience. The hostess was great in finding a place to sit quickly as they were crowded. The 90 degree plus day left few wanting to eat outside and it's understandable. While the fish fry may have been a better choice for flavor, all three of us opted for the baked poor mans lobster. I liked the choice of soup or salad although personally would have preferred traditional coleslaw. I am not sure if it was the number of people but couldn't feel any airflow in the dining area although near a vent. Dinner arrived quickly and I was pleasantly surprised by the addition of green beans. The potato pancakes were hot and delicious, great flavor and crunchy. Sadly we all noticed the fish lacked any flavor, bland and even drawn butter or tartar sauce couldn't help it. It definitely needed something to be palatable. Traveling through catching a flight and decided we had to have a famous WI Friday fish fry. After all it's lent and Ash Wednesday was this week. We were very excited to try this authentic old school Milwaukee pub. Ordered the walleye deep fried. Sorry to report it was dry and not very good. Salad was puny. Drink was watery and fries were just so so. Rye bread was actually marbled versus the true dark rye prefer. Pros, seafood chowder was very good and spicy. Price was right at about $15 per plate.
