I had 4 hours before my flight and planned to have lunch and a beer or 2 before flying back to Seattle. I ordered the Italian sausage covered with peppers and sauteed onions on a Brot bun. (sauerkraut is also offered) Your choice of a side of chips, fries or Coleslaw and I opted for the healthier option, crispy and fresh but, not a good choice as it lacked any flavor, fortunately the petite Italian sausage was flavorful with its firm and tasty brot bun bed. It had a similar texture to a bagel and yes I would order it again! The 20 ounce Leinenkugel Seasonal Porter ($9.75) was cold, dark and wet while disappearing quickly. I had a 1 1/2 hour layover at Milwaukee airport, it was past dinner time so I was hungry, but I wasn't in the mood for the usual airport fare - cold sandwiches, pizza or fast food burgers and fries. I came across Usinger's, which appears to be a restaurant operated here at the airport by a local Milwaukee sausage and meat company. I didn't go for their sausage offerings, as I still had a few hours of flights and car travel before I reached my destination and I didn't want to subject anyone to the horrible gas that certainly would've resulted if I'd eaten sausage. I settled on their grilled beef n' cheddar sandwich, which was billed as "freshly sliced Usinger's roast beef with Wisconsin cheddar cheese, topped with horseradish mayo". This sandwich was $8 and came with their house potato chips. After waiting about 5 minutes for my sandwich to be ready, I was a bit disappointed in it. While it was OK, I've had similar sandwiches from other restaurants which made me want to grab another for the road or at least return back on my next visit to have another. The one I had here was pretty tasteless overall, was served on standard bread slices so it wasn't very large and there weren't many chips served with it, so I walked away unimpressed and unsatisfied, wondering if the lack of taste was worth the calories considering the cheese and mayo that came on the sandwich, and the butter or whatever fat they grilled it in. I'll probably try this restaurant again if passing through this airport in the future, as it seems to be the only local offering in this concourse and they do offer a fairly wide variety of sandwiches and some other foods, but will definitely try something else on my next visit. read more

This airport stop-over restaurant in the "D" Concourse is pretty all-around average; nothing stands out as amazing but likewise there are no glaring issues here, either. I stopped in for lunch while waiting for a midday flight and found ample seating. The server was courteous and quick. The food was a touch slower than I would have liked, but this is a sit down place and not a kiosk, so it wasn't out of line. One downside is that there are no power outlets for travelers to charge their devices while eating. Pricing is high, but in line for airport costs. For airport dining, it could be worse. The service wasn't bad, but the problem is that the cluster of three restaurants here are staffed by a subcontract. We happened to get a good waitress, but the supervisor had to go find her first. We did see some poor service around us, I wouldn't choose any of the three if I were in a hurry. The Usinger products are, of course, pretty good, but the sandwich choices and sides end up being too greasy-fatty for getting on a long flight. I did like the cheese curds, but since I'm lactose intolerant I regretted them later. I've been traveling for over 40 years. This was the worst service experience I've ever had at an airport. Although I was served promptly, Server Rebecca treated me like I was "air" while she waited on other customers and chatted with her colleague about other colleagues. Pretty disappointing chopped salad.. For a city know for processed meat they basically just sliced hunks of pre-sliced salami and cheese and threw it on the side, the slices still stuck together.. I think they also didn't bother chopping up the lettuce, so it was in sizes suited to be topped on a hamburger.. not salad size.. I guess I was too stupid to not order processed meat or nachos.. Usinger's is a meat company so I was expecting an excellent tasty bacon serving. Not at all. Ruined the meal since my expectations were high. When you're a meat company and you put your name on the sign be sure to deliver on what people expect. Prices were good for airport food. $10 or so for a classic breakfast.
