Freezer-burned "spumoni"
Eric B.

(Make that 2 1/2 stars.) Our local favorite--Fork in the Road--happens to be closed on Sundays and Mondays, so we implemented "Plan B," namely Blue Bay. Their George H. W. Bush-era décor begs to be updated, but otherwise this family-friendly diner appears reasonably neat and clean. Blue Bay's enormous menu features unapologetically retro diner classics that hark back to the era when a 1/2 lb. burger plated with cottage cheese was actually considered healthy. The wonderful servers and remarkably inexpensive prices are the obvious draw. But, you literally get what you pay for--average quality food. Our sandwiches were okay but did not rise above ordinary. Cooked-to-order items, e.g. breakfast dishes, deep-fried, and grilled or griddled items, seem to be the best bets here. Some entrées looked and tasted as though they had been prepared in large batches much earlier in the day. The kitchen has a heavy hand with the gravy ladle. Swedish meatballs--described by a server as "one of our most popular items" arrived ... brace yourself ... drenched in a dreadful gloppy Alfredo sauce (Italian/Swedish fusion?). Spaghetti & meat sauce was proportioned 1/3 pasta to 2/3 sauce. Mashed potatoes were awash in a sea of insipid beige gravy. Dessert? You guessed it ... tapioca or rice pudding, ice cream, and cheesecake. We ordered the cheesecake and spumoni (dessert came with our meals). Both were forgettable.

How do I give ZERO stars. Food was absolutely horrible, for a greek inspired menu/restaurant who serves a gyro in tin foil, to be honest I wouldn't even call this a gyro, it looked like processed package meat (most likely frozen) not sliced off the spit. Not served with tzatziki, I had to ask the server multiple times for it. When I got it looked curdled and tasted disgusting. Soup was served cold, wifes chicken wrap was rubbery...the service was one of the worst experiences we've ever had in a restaurant. We make it a point to tip very well and take care of our servers however, we had to get up get our own napkins, hot sauce, flag down another server to order drinks. we will definitely not be back! Were enroute to the Elegant Farm for lunch and decided to stop here. Mistake!

Blue bay was a third option after my first two options ended up being closed so Yelp took me here. The pace is very popular with the older crowd because that's what 95 % of the people were and I will get there so it's not a knock on them. The place is the common old school breakfast spot that has not been updated in a while. I experienced no service issues as my server worked several tables. I like that you get your own ice water glass bottle so if you run out there is no waiting. The menu is the standard breakfast items so I ordered eggs and protein. I ordered the ham and eggs with hash brown and toast with a side of sausage patties in case the ham was fake. The eggs were cooked a hair past sunny side up and half way to medium with a little runny yoke left in them but not my rare yokes that I like. The ham was real/hand trimmed of all fat which I hate that was sliced thin and a smaller portion that most places give you. The sausage patties were the bland kind with no zing or zip to them. The toast was my fav, sour dough but the generic kind. Overall this is your average breakfast spot that is a safe bet that makes food for the masses so your not going to be wowed with great flavors like smokey/juicy ham or zesty/juicy sausage patties but it has appeal because it fills up on the weekends.

$11.95 tip off and shameful.

No worries on the Corned Beef and Cabbage Soup. No meat and watered down in the kitchen! No flavor but cabbage water. Greek owners serving frozen pre-sliced pseudo Gyro meat, 0.25 at most piece of rubbery fake feta cut into 4 tiny cubes. Sorry just disgusted. If you come here, stay away from Gyro.

Very slow service, lacks flavor in food. Staff can be unpleasant at times. Too busy for not enough staff.

The chicken was super tasty and I loved the block of feta. Although, for 15.00, I could get double the salad and chicken and get pita bread at another local Greek restaurant. I would suggest adding more to the salad for the price of 16.50. I will try something different next time but I think my husband will stick with the Gyro dinner and we will just ask for more sauce and pita bread.

More of a "hole in the wall" diner....but you could smell the food just walking through the door! The girl working the counter was most accommodating and friendly! Came for the creamy lemon rice soup and wasn't disappointed!! Delish!! Couldn't decide on entree so I opted for the $17.00 plate with pork skewer and taziki (sp) sauce soup and spinach pie! Was looking forward to trying their Pastitsio but they were out of it. Spinach pie was a very good second choice! Only downside was no liquor license and we didn't think to ask if we could byob.... They served fountain drinks and nice jugs of cold water ....one infused with cucumbers which was a nice touch. All in all very good food and way more affordable than a fancy Greek (or Mediterranean ) restaurant. Didn't have room for dessert. But looked like some nice offerings. I would go back...even if it were just for the soup!

There is even a bar are with counter seating and three - five tables (two standard height and three counter height. There is a monstrous screen behind the bar for sports, but they mostly show videos of Greece, but they are mesmerizing videos of a beautiful country. It's a cleaner version of Dengeo's. And, dare I say, better version. Except for their avgolemeno soup. Such a weak travesty. Please fix this. It's just a watery mess. However, everything else is delicious. I ordered the Greek Chicken with their lemon-butter rice. They debone the chicken and serve atop a mountain of their rice. If also had their potatoes (which are good) but the rice is magical. The first time we went, they had a serve yourself soda fountain and they since got rid of it and sell soda in bottles and cans. They do still have a self-serve water station. Once you order, staff will bring to your table, so please tip when you order or leave on the table as they do come by and clear your table as well. It is first come first served and you grab your own tables. I've been there on weekends and weeknights and they get pretty packed. The food is flavorful and quite tasty. The portions are huge so you're definitely going to bring something home. Nostimo is now in our rotation of places to go in a pinch and they do have an outdoor seating area, too.

Since there was a total of 11 and the seating is first come first serve, we decided to call to see if they had reservations. They did take our name and reserved a table. When we arrived we noticed a table was reserved and we were informed that it was our table. We sat and looked over the menus. When we were ready my 2 boys and I went up to place our order. My one son has major allergies so we spoke to the chef and he came back out to recommend the dishes he can have. It was great that he did so and gave us confidence that my son would be able to eat without worrying too much about the ingredients. I ordered the Shrimp Kalamakia with a side of the Greek Rice. My son with the allergies ordered the Pork Kalamakia with Greek Rice and no pita, my other son ordered the Traditional Pork Gyro with Greek Rice. The sides we ordered: Saganaki Fritters and Spanakopitakia. My son that ordered the Pork Kalamakia devoured it. He said it was tender and juicy and probably could have eaten 4 skewers. My Shrimp Kalamakia was nicely charred and seasoned, I squeezed some lemon and it provided a nice tang over the seasoning. The Lemon rice pilaf was soft and cook just right and was nicely balanced. I had one Saganaki Ball and it was delicious. My son had the Pork Gyros said it was really good and the Tzatziki sauce was creamy and rich with flavors. My in-laws bought the table desserts and I got the Baklava and my wife got Loukoumades (Greek Donuts with Nutella) and both did not disappoint. I really loved the citrus honey syrup in the Baklava. The Loukoumades had a crispy shell and nice a fluffy on the inside and the Nutella amount was perfect. This place is very good and well worth the price in my opinion. I loved the fact that they took the time to make sure my son with allergies was safe.

The cold station had a great variety of hummus and dips served with pita bread--my son loved it so much he ate thirteen pieces of pita! I'm usually not a big fan of raw oysters, but they looked so fresh that I decided to try them... and I couldn't stop eating them. They also had traditional Easter red eggs and egg salad, which was a nice touch. The hot food selection was very impressive as well, including freshly carved prime rib and ham, roasted lamb leg, and sausages. There were also breakfast favorites like French toast and scrambled eggs. Desserts were excellent too--cakes, fresh fruits, and yogurt rounded out the meal perfectly. The setting is just as lovely--the restaurant has an outdoor patio that would be especially enjoyable in the summer, with a great view of the city skyline. It's also a perfect spot for photos. On top of all that, the staff was incredibly friendly and attentive. Overall, it was a perfect dining experience and a memorable Easter celebration.
