TL;DR - Hendel's hooked my capacitor up wrong and fried my fan motor. I showed picture proof of how the first tech wired it up wrong. They claim that I messed w the wiring and hooked it up wrong myself after the first tech left (?!). The tech hooked it up wrong to drum up business or by mistake, either way, total fail not making it right. On Aug 27, Hendel's came out to help clear my garage air handler pan so it didn't leak. I had no issues with the actual AC functionality in any way. The tech removed debris from the drain pan, and charged a level II cleaning service. Great. The tech did look over my outside heat pump and tested my capacitor. I declined any work on it and he put the capacitor connectors back together. Shortly after he leaves I'm not getting cold air and I see the heat pump fan is off. Turning the AC off and on sometimes spins it up, but it usually doesn't run for more than an hour. It seems like a pretty insane coincidence that something would die immediately after the tech is messing with the units wiring. I take a picture of how the Hendel's tech hooked the old dusty capacitor back up. Fan/brown, HERM/Yellow, Common/Blue. After my AC had failed, I put another capacitor in and hook it up in the same way their tech had left it, using the pictures as reference. No change and the AC motor will still not stay on. On Aug 31st, another Hendel's tech comes out to look at the unit as I was still without AC. He notes the fan motor is shorted. He looks at the schematics and notes that the HERM and Common lines on the capacitor are hooked up in REVERSE. The first tech that came out on August 27th hooked up the capacitor WRONG. This fried the motor and caused the unit to fail after he left. If their techs took any picture of their work on the first visit, this would certainly show that it was hooked up in reverse. Hendel's has messages from me reporting the unit failing after their first tech worked on it, the pictures showing it hooked up incorrectly, AND their second tech seeing the capacitor hooked up incorrectly. I have requested any documentation or pictures Hendel's has that back up their claim that the capacitor was hooked up correctly, but they do not take pictures of their work and refuse to provide me any reason for why the unit was left hooked up wrong on the first visit. Again they didn't take pictures of the unit after they hooked it up correctly on the 2nd visit, so I also attached one that I took of it done correctly. You can see that the Common and HERM connections are reversed from the way their first tech installed it. The correct way - Fan/brown, HERM/Blue, Common/Yellow. I understand mistakes happen, and the 2nd tech to come out was stand up. The system is working great after proper wiring and a new $$$ fan motor. All they can do is a 15% discount on the $950 fan motor..tl That's a fan motor that should have never been needed. Hooking the capacitor up wrong gave the wrong voltage and phase shift to BOTH my fan motor and compressor. This mistake could have severely limited the life of my compressor also. They refuse to send me any documentation or pictures showing the first visit work was done correctly. If you decide to take a risk with this company, TAKE BEFORE AND AFTER PICS OF ANY WORK THEY DO FOR YOU! Can't believe they don't do this themselves. The next day, the unit completely stopped working and they told us that the entire unit needed to be replaced. Overpriced. Hendels came out for maintenance service for my 2 ACs on April 7,2023. The service man worked for about 1 hour inspecting the 2 ACs and filled each with 1 lb of freon. I was charged over $500 for just labor. The total bill for 1 hour of work and 2 lbs of freon came to $859. Since the original owner Joe died, this company just gouges customers for work not performed. Do not use Hendels for AC service. I have been recommending Hendel's consistently for years, including on posts in social media. I've been Hendel's biggest fan. ... But things have changed with this company in recent years. The most recent incident, a tech misdiagnosed my unit in April. Said refrigerant level is low, have a leak and can monitor at a rate of $120 a day. We persevered and as the weather got hotter and the unit was struggling, we called a competitor, Foley's, for a second opinion. The tech says the unit is fine, I have a circulation problem with duct word and I should call Hendel's since they did the original work. He provided a contact for Reiss, in the off chance I have problems with Hendel's. Foley's declined to accept payment since they said the unit is good. He suggests I call Hendel's and after being placed on hold, a rep tells me they don't do any duct work in the summer. So you should know that Hendel's is not a full-service company even when they do the original work. I originally set up a $139 consultation with them today and then canceled the same day with the information they don't do duct work in the summer. A rep from Reeis came out and said this doesn't make sense because the splits are accurate, but it's not blowing cold in the house. Within minutes, he determined that a piece of insulation had come loose and was completely clogging the air flow, which was causing the coils to freeze with lack of circulation. It saddens me to write this report, but I want others to be aware of my story. Sadly, I think Hendel's has jumped the shark. Edited to correct spelling of Reeis. read more

Its unfortunate when you do business with a company for more than twenty years and all of a sudden everything about the business changes. I an truly sorry that Mr. Hendel's had passed away a few year prior but not sorry about cutting off Hendel's from doing business with me in the future. When my 10 year old A/C unit gave out I contacted Hendel's for an estimate to replace. I received the estimate in a timely manner and it look sufficient to complete the job if fact because of our history together, I had them add an additional mini split unit for my garage, to be installed last. During installation of the main house unit the installers from Hendel's absolutely destroyed my drywall and damaged the duct work and while repairing the duct work somehow it filled with blown in insulation? So, when the unit was 1st turned on we had insulation blown throughout the house! The head installer thought is was funny! I promptly called Hendel's to com-plain, they sent the installer supervisor to inspect he said he was sorry that happened and it shouldn't have happen but, we shouldn't be so hard on his head installer because he's so sensitive. That comment did not go over well with us. Unfortunately they while attempting to repair the duct work they smashed it causing air flow to be restricted to the living room. In addition to the living restricted air flow we also had poor cooling to the master bedroom. They said new vents throw-out the house would help that. An additional $600 dollars later we had new vents which did not help cool the master bedroom. Finally they said the issue was not their problem and could no longer help us with it. All said and done we found out after Mr. Hendel's passed away the business was passed along to family members which is when customer service was no longer important. After all that pain I decided I didn't want any more so I canceled my mini-split for the garage. I don't typically write negative reviews but to protect anyone considering a new A/C unit I felt impelled to do this one. If you choose Hendel's for your service provider I wish you luck maybe it will work out better for you. read more

I have been a customer of theirs for close to 20 Years if you include using them when I was a business manager. They installed our Nee units in 2015. Something has changed with their service. They came out this past week to repair our air conditioning. The Service Tech was rude and threw a tantrum when asked to do his job. These guys are not interested in fixing your expensive A/C unit, only interested in selling a new unit. Their guy went up in the attic a few minutes and said it was broken, need new one. Seemed fishy so I sent him to test the pressure. It was low. He said they needed to put in a new unit. Then I called a local honest handyman, who sold red the leak for $125, and five years later it's going strong, despite HENDEL'S. If you want an honest A/C fixer- keep looking. The tech did a good job. However, there are some things you should know before you do business with Hendel's. First, Hendel's now adds a 3% surcharge if you pay by credit card. Fortunately, we had $1,000 dollars in the bank and could write a check. The second thing you should know is that replacing a fan motor and adding 1 pound of refrigerant will cost you close to a $1,000. Here is a break-down of Hendel's invoice: - Trip and Diagnostic Charge - $129 - Condenser fan motor - $609.54 - Service Labor - $100 - Refrigerant R- 410 - $79.89 For at total of $918.41 The replacement motor was not OEM. It was a Century 1/3 to 1/8 HP Condenser Fan Motor, 825 RPM. It is available on the internet for $161. read more

Bought a new unit from them in 2018 for 6,000 and it quit working last night, July 2021. It has a 10-year warrantee. The unit didn't fail it was a clogged water line. They sent their only repairman finally by 8:00 pm and now 90 in house. guy fixed it. Died again an hour later AND they do not have any after hours emergency service past 8:00 pm. I spent 250.00. They don't have a business policy to take care of business when their customers have an emergency after 8. Odd to me. update on this review: the following morning they sent their #1 repairman who was sensational. Ask for Sam, because he's the man!!! He was SO articulate and had very helpful explanations. Jim the salesperson was very kind and knowledgeable. I met him in the showroom on Tuesday morning and we talked about our options. He followed me home and did a thorough inspection/calculation and came up with a plan to redo some ductwork and dialed in our equipment choices. He even delivered a temporary AC unit for us to use for 2 days while we waited for our install date. Abraham and Javier showed up Thursday at 8am and immediately gutted our old unit and within 8 hours they were done. A separate team came curbside and hauled away the trash and old equipment. Both young men were very kind and knowledgeable about the product they installed. Explained what they were doing and why. By this time the house was 95 degrees inside. Yuck!!! Finally they set the temp, went over the thermostat functions and swept the floors. Even swept and picked up the little bits of trash outside. They even found a few sheet metal screws in the street from the old equipment that the scrap crew left. They were quick to pick it all up and discard. Now it's been 3 hours since they left. My home is 87 and dropping. Our American Standard Silver 16 unit is soooooo quiet. 71 decibels right at the fan. Time will tell if it lasts as long as my 18 year old Carrier. But based on my recent experience, I recommend them. read more

I originally hired Hendel's three years ago as a new homeowner when I had my first ac problem. The man they sent out was professional and fixed the problem quickly. I have recommended Hendel's to several friends since then and have been confident in their customer service and honesty-until now. a year or two later I had another problem and called them again. The man they sent out was not willing to go onto the roof of my condo complex and said that someone would call me the next day and set an appointment for another repairman to come. He did not want to check for any access points in my building as the other repairman had. I didn't push him because it was a hot day and he seemed to be in a bad mood. I never received a call, but the system started working again so I didn't worry about it. I recently called to schedule an inspection and was told that the last repairman that came marked my address as 'unserviceable'. I was perplexed at this because they had serviced me successfully in the past. The person I talked to on the phone was very understanding, but told me that I would be charged if they sent out a repairman regardless of whether or not they were able to go out on the roof. I do not have the money to gamble on whether or not the repairman will be willing to go out on the roof, so I will have to use another company. I carefully select each company that works on my home and have established relationships with many companies that have earned my trust since becoming a homeowner. I had hoped that Hendel's would be a reliable company that I could call on for many years in the future. Unfortunately I no longer recommend them. read more

a/c temp rise from 78 to 81 degrees during hot part day Called Hendel's sent tech out diagnosed bad condenser fan motor on Sunday ordered motor and replaced it Tuesday afternoon and it did not fix the problem for almost 1300 dollars. Motor on line cost 475 dollars so we have 800 dollars in labor for 1/2 hour to replace the condenser fan motor and I stood there and watched so I knew how long it took Sent another tech Tuesday evening and he diagnosed it as bad compressor motor but wanted 2nd opinion Service manager came out Wednesday afternoon and diagnosed as leak in the system and low on a/c 401 . Added a/c 401 at no charge and system works fine Still have to find the leak another tech coming the following Thursday to find the leak Asked for the condenser fan motor back from Tuesday evening tech, service manager on Wednesday and the office personnel on Wednesday and they claimed they scrapped it . I am not a a/c person but have a hard time believing that the motor and the system leak were both bad when the system was working fine prior to acting up on Saturday Tech was suppose to come out today and find the leak but after thinking about the charge for labor and condenser fan motor and not returning the motor to me I lost all confidence in their integrity and honesty . While I appreciate they were open on Saturday, 2 stars for that. I did not appreciate that the run capacitor I needed was $65 more than I could buy it anywhere else. No stars. Unfortunately the wife picked it up being in the area and did not know. I could have paid my AC guy $75 for a service call and $15 for the part had I known they were going to gouge me. He is busy so I did not want to bother him with something I could fix. I would have made do with the heat had I known they were going to soak her for $81. My bad I did not ask how much it was going to be over the phone. Never in my wildest dreams would I think that they would charge that much for a $15 part. AZ Plumbing Supply $15. Unfortunately they were closed. Being open shouldn't be $65 more though. For everyone else, $600 for a fan motor plus more for the service call is horrendous. There are many places in the valley to buy it for 125-150. Get on next-door and find someone that can install it. Or find a local AC guy that's not dumping thousands of dollars into advertising on the radio. You will save 1/2 the money. Most of the time when your fan is humming but not working it is the capacitor not the fan motor. If it's been squealing a lot it could possibly be the motor. If you can't spin the blades( use a stick) it's the motor otherwise it's the capacitor. read more

Have been using Hendel's for years to replace and repair our two roof mounted heat pumps. One unit was making a lot of noise (turned out to be fan blades hitting shroud), so called Hendel's to fix. Initial service call was $99 (seems high), and technician indicated $1680 more needed to replace the motor, fan blades, and shroud. Work was all professionally several days later and unit is working good again, but would not apply the $99 diagnostic fee towards the repair. They are now very very expensive-has to be another company out there that knows what they are doing without over charging customers. read more

I have used Hendel's previously, and every time I am more than satisfied with the work they do. This week I had to replace my AC unit. I knew it was having trouble and wanted to replace it before it went totally out. Hendel's came quickly, gave me an honest estimate, and was out the next day to do the work. Mario and Abraham were two of the hardest workers I have ever seen, and they were working in 114-degree heat. The unit was installed, ducting replaced and everything cleaned up immaculately, all in one day. Hendel's sent someone out the next day to fix my garage ceiling where they had to make a larger opening to get the unit in, and you cannot even tell anything was done. Phoenix was having a heat wave and our A/C couldn't keep up. We used Hendel's before for routine maintenance and were happy with their work. This time we called them on a Sunday to check their hours. A very pleasant receptionist answered and said they were open. A great technician (Matthew) came out on a Sunday afternoon and fixed our unit. My AC unit at home started blowing hot air couple days ago. After determining that capacitor may be an issue, I found the make and model of my capacitor and took it to Hendels. Staff were very helpful and had a replacement brand of the capacitor. The price for a 50-10uf 440v capacitor was $65 inclusive of tax. Pretty decent price. Recommend anyone in need of a replacement ac unit especially capacitors, buy parts here. Of course price is contingent on the fact that you end up changing the part yourself. Our Ac went out over night, I called first thing in the morning and got a same day appointment. Brad, the technician arrived right on time and quickly diagnosed the problem. Surprisingly, the repair was affordable and completed in less than an hour but also walked me through what was wrong and how it became a problem. I also asked if there was anything else wrong and everything was fine. In addition, a full check up was completed and the report was shared via email. Terrible customer service! Bought an inexpensive part from here ($63.00) it was a pressure switch for my Lennox A/C that my brother who is certified in commercial HVAC's installed. Changing the switch did not resolve the issue and the next day I had a very reputable company for HVAC residential repairs come out to troubleshoot. Today I was told the switch was faulty out of the box. I called Hendel's about the faulty switch to see my options. To be completely transparent, I was aware they have a zero return policy, however, I didn't not realize that applied to bad parts sold. The very rude receptionist answering the phone asked me how they could know the part was bad, I told them I had a work order showing as much, but I was told to read my receipts and the signs posted throughout the stores, no returns! Therefore, they have zero returns on parts sold that are bad. Granted, this only happen a small percentage of the time but apparently this company does not care. read more

I've used Hendel's for years and have never had an issue. I have 2 units. They installed a replacement for one a few years ago and I use them whenever my other old unit has issues. Just had a tech out tonight because I gave up trying to figure out why my old unit wouldn't come on. Arrived on time, and 30 minutes later I'm cooling my house again. The techs I've had out over the years have all been courteous and know what they are doing. Great service. My A/C stopped working on a Saturday night in the middle of summer. Spent the night in a hotel with the family and dogs. Home Warranty co said someone would be out on Wednesday!! Seriously. I called Hendel's since they put the unit in and do my yearly checkup and they were here on Sunday afternoon. The technician, Richard, identified the problem quickly [it was small but caused the unit to shut down] and showed me what to do if it happens in the future. The best part was the price. Bought a run capacitor last Saturday from them, she said it's brand new. I asked for WARRANTY and she said we don't offer warranty cause our stuff are always brand new and top quality. My a/c technician installed the capacitor and guess what? It's NOT working!!! My a/c guy tested the capacitor and failed.. He said they gave you a defective one. Scheduled an appointment for AC service over a week in advance and specifically took the day off of work to be home when they arrived. I received a call that the technician was en-route. Waited waited waited.... Then looked out the front window to see the service truck driving away. I received a call shortly thereafter telling me the technician didn't have a tall enough ladder and that he had moved on to his next call. They asked me if they could reschedule for another day. It was around 1:00pm. I asked if they could send out another technician with a taller ladder the same afternoon. They said they would check and call me back. Next, I received another call from a different person with more lame excuses why they couldn't service my AC unit which, by the way, I purchased from them and they had no problems installing it. I've never heard such a ridiculous excuse from a company EVER. I was furious with the lack of customer service. DO NOT do business with this company if you have a AC unit on a second story pitched roof. Evidently they DON'T have tall enough ladders or employ sure-footed technicians who will be able to service your unit after spending thousands of dollars with them on the initial purchase and installation. I've never had a more terrible customer experience. Warning to everyone to do your research before doing business with this company. I'm extremely disappointed with Hendel's, to say the least and feel the need to share my experience on social media and with everyone I know. I feel certain that had I showed up in their showroom to purchase a new unit that they would have been able to find a ladder tall enough to get the sale done.
