Had a great meal at HEM Noodle Bar in Richmond, Texas. Walking in, I really enjoyed the authentic Vietnamese and Asian decor. They also had a nice bar. We were warmly greeted and seated promptly, and the great and attentive service continued throughout the entire meal. I ordered the Pork and Shrimp Patty Rolls (9/10) which was expertly put together with a nice crisp crunch when I bit into it. It was definitely one of the highlights of the meal! We also ordered the Mini Egg Rolls (8/10) which was another great appetizer. It came out hot and fresh with a perfect crispy bite with all the traditional accompaniments with Vietnamese eggrolls. The main course was Sai Gon Broken Rice Plate (8/10) which came with a grilled pork chop, rice, egg meatloaf and a fried egg to top it off. A very generous amount of food and the main entree was delicious as well. I paired it with a glass of Vietnamese Coffee which was strong with a good amount of sweetness. First visit and initial impressions are great. The decor is striking with a full wall mural. The dining room has varied seating styles, high top, booths and tables for four. The bar is centrally located in the restaurant with plenty of seating. This the location to order takeout with a very helpful staff member. Hem has a spacious patio with fan to help fight the heat. My dish was a takeout Shrimp Pho which was delicious. However, menu options range from cocktails to coffees and entrees that have my attention and can't wait to return hungry enough to sample a large portion of the offerings. read more

Hem Noodle Bar was okay, but it's not a place I'll be rushing back to. There are several restaurants in the area with a similar menu that I enjoy more. Our server was very friendly and helpful, which was definitely a plus. Unfortunately, the A/C was out during our visit, so the restaurant was quite warm and uncomfortable. Just stopped by this place for some lunch and it was top-notch! To drink I ordered the Ube "Bac Xiu" coffee - 10/10. This coffee was outstanding. It's Vietnamese coffee, with condensed milk and Ube cold foam. If you are a coffee lover, this will hit the spot. Fun new addition to the area. Decorated nicely with an open bar concept. Decor is trendy with a huge collage on one side of the wall honoring Vietnamese roots. Service was good but unfortunately the food just fell short for us on this visit. We found the pho to be downright bland and the banh mi was the least favorite one I've ever had. Couldn't finish it. My garlic noodles with shaking beef was decent, however this was at best average and served room temp. The best thing we tried was the mini egg rolls, wings were decent as well. I had lunch here today I ordered the chicken pho and Garlic noodles with shaken beef the shaken beef was tender full of flavor I definitely will come back for that. The pho was good too but the chicken was dry I'm more of a beef pho fan but since I already got the shaken beef I decided to try chicken pho.. the refreshers are delicious as well my mom got the lychee refresher she enjoyed it but it is very sweet. My drink I forgot what it's called but it has pineapple juice, club soda and Rosemary taste refreshing for sure good choice on a hot day. Will definitely eat here again. My husband and I came here for dinner. We ordered chicken wings cooked with fish sauce, five spice beef, shaken beef with garlic noodles, and sai gon broken rice. They're still in their soft opening phase so they're still working out on the logistics. Our waiter checked on us several times to make sure that we are doing well and has asked us for our opinion about the dishes. He was very friendly and had given some good suggestions. What's stuck out the most was that the broken rice had a really nice texture and every element was very balanced and amazing as a whole for a comfort dish. This is exactly what I look into for a broken rice dish. The five spice beef is nicely made, juicy and fatty with a nice fish egg texture on top. The chicken wings are super meaty. The garlic noodles could use some work. They tasted off for some reason and a bit soggy. Maybe it was over cooked a bit? Inside, I like the basket lights . They still have to furnish the outside patio area so their decor is still in the works. I'm glad to see a Vietnamese resturant that wasn't just pho and Bani mis in the area. Great big neat spot to eat Vietnamese food in Richmond Texas. Comfortable ambience and good service. My favorite was the garlic noodle and shaking beef. The sauce was really good. My second favorite was the bone marrow. It went very well with the banh mi that we got with the Bo ne. The beef in the Bo no was a bit too chewy for me. The sauce though was good. Everytime I have been to HEM in Richmond, I left happy with a full belly. The staff is so helpful and friendly. The restaurant is clean, and not noisy and crowded. The menu prices are fairly priced, and on top of all that, the food is great. What stands out to me, is the plating of the food. It is done beautifully, and you can tell they take pride in how their dishes look to the customers. It also has an outdoor space/patio, but as of right now, it's not yet being used. This place just recently opened in the aliana area so we decided to try it out. The atmosphere of this place is nice and friendly. I love how the interior is decorated. Our server was really nice and always checked up on us. The truffle fries were really crispy but lacked on the truffle flavor, all I could really taste was the parmesan. Ace got the five spice grilled beef and the portion was big and flavor was good. The only thing that sucks is that it doesn't come with rice and if you want to order rice it's a up charge of $1.50. I got the shaking beef with garlic noodles. The beef was really soft and the sauce of the beef was a bit on the sweeter side compared to your usual shaking beef. I'm not sure if I would come here often since it's pretty expensive. read more

Out of all the places I've been to in the Richmond area, Hem really stood out. Their five spice beef was the best beef I have had in my entire life. It was tender, juicy, and full of flavor. It also came with a sauce that was tangy and fresh which elevated the dish to another level. The noodles were also very good and the flavor was amazing. We also got a couple appetizers from their happy hour menu which blew us away. The truffle fries and wings are a must try! The service was great and the food came out very fast. Lastly it would be a crime not to talk about how beautiful the decor is the restaurant is and the good vibes it brings. Last night, I had dinner during their soft opening and the service was excellent. Our waiter, Loc, was incredibly friendly and attentive. I was impressed that another staff member, possibly a manager, came by our table to inquire about our experience. The restaurant is spacious with trendy hipster like decor, creating a vibrant and energetic ambience. There's a good-sized bar in the center, and lots of booth seatings around. My table ordered the following: - Mini Eggrolls Shrimp: This is my favorite dish thus far. They are TINY but incredibly cute and fun to eat. I love the use of rice paper as the wrapper instead of the typical wheat wrapper. The outside was crispy yet the inside was soft and puffy, making them a delightful combination of textures. They also had a good flavor to them. I really enjoyed these unique mini eggrolls, which are unlikely to be found in any other restaurant (size wise). I highly recommend them and rate them 5/5. - Squid Salad - this is my second favorite dish that my table ordered. This is a gorgeous dish. It was light and refreshing with a touch of savory goodness and a dap of sweetness. I would definitely order this again and say it's 5/5. - Broken Rice w/ Grilled Pork Ribs - My mom ordered this dish because they had run out of the Broken Rice combination option. She said it was okay. We were both pleased to see that they had actually used broken rice instead of regular long rice. The dish came with a side soup that I tried, and it was very bland. It tasted like sipping warm, oily water. My mom gave it a 3/5 and said she would not order it again. - Shrimp Garlic Noodles - As a fan of garlic noodles, I had high hopes for this dish, but unfortunately, I was disappointed. The noodles lacked any garlic flavor and the texture was slightly rubbery and dull. I gave this dish a rating of 2/5 and will not order it again. Overall, it's a great addition to the neighborhood and I will definitely be back to try other items on the menu like the Tofu Banh Mi. I love broken rice and it's been challenging finding a place that makes the egg meatloaf so I was really excited to see it on the menu. The pho broth is flavorful and not greasy like some places.
