The food was AMAZING. This is the first time we tried hunan, and it was delicious. We didn't get our lomein, but the guy we spoke to, Jackie, assured us our refund and still invited us in to pick up our lomein. We will be going again soon to give it a try. The portions were also very huge!!!! read more

Came here for the 1st time with family from out of town. The menu was very limited and service was horrible. No one got refills or were we ever checked on to see if we needed anything. The food came out hot and was decent. The atmosphere was pretty cool. However, days later we were notified by the sheriff that my parent's credit card had been compromised by this individual working at the restaurant. He tried using a significant amount of money at one point causing the bank to put a hold on their card. This was after he already went on a shopping spree with their money. Watch out and check your bank statements if you visited this place. read more

My late hubby introduced me to this place and I had to stop by for lunch one day when I was out that way. I went for lunch and everyone was very attentive. I ordered the General Tsao chicken, white chicken, which came with soup and I opted for steam rice. I also ordered their shrimp egg roll. The opted for the sweet and sour soup and it wasn't what I'm used to when it comes to sweet and sour soup but still good. The shrimp roll was sooooo good as always. The chicken was good and serving size was very nice. I was only able to eat half and boxed up the rest. They offered me extra steam rice. Affordable and delicious. Will keep going back. read more

I have not read through any of the ratings for this restaurant however, I will tell you it is extremely efficient, the food at least that I had was quite good primarily steamed vegetable and pork dumplings, the ambience is nothing special, but it reminds me of an old Chinese restaurant. And the service is absolutely remarkable. I would say frankly, given the cost that this is a very good deal if you like American Chinese food and if you know, American Chinese food well enough to find some exceptions to just the standard fair of a Chinese restaurant. I will also add that with the number of phone calls coming in their takeout business has got to be amazing. I respect other yelpers ratings have not read any of them, but will do so after I post mine just to understand why someone would not have given this Restaurant a higher rating than what it has on yelp currently. Perhaps it's a lack of creativity of the menu, however where it lacks creativity it really makes up in diversity. read more

We have been going here for over 25 years and enjoy the food very much, the wife loves the spicy crispy shrimp and I like about everything. I would recommend this restaurant.-eggrolls are fabulous read more

We have been regulars at Hunan Garden for 13 years and over the past 6 months or so the food has just not been what it used to be, some items even completely changing the recipe and to be honest a few have just become terrible. We found out the restaurant had been sold right about this time and everything is starting to make sense now, except why you take a restaurant that has been in business 40 years and start altering recipes. Any restaurateur will tell you that lifespan is incredible, work on other things but never change recipes or your long standing customers walk. Very sad, this was always a favorite stop for me. read more

I'm so disappointed after going here for special occasions for 15+ years. The Crispy Walnut Shrimp was chewy, the Crispy Szechuan Beef was so tough it was like shoe leather. Embarrassing management told us to put our Service Dog on the floor (we were in a corner booth and she was asleep on the seat next to my wife) and we complied. Then he came back and interrupted our conversation to repeat his request and took ten minutes to explain why. What a horrible experience. We won't be back. read more

I've actually eaten here at Hunan Garden since the '90s . The food has continued to be very delicious and consistent over the years . Great Chinese food , Come get some ! read more

Great food awesome some experience!! food was me quickly!! They make the food too perfection

Placed a takeout order but they changed fried rice to white rice when I came in to pick up. Got home, opened my food and they didn't give me the chow mein noodles and gave chicken dumplings instead of vegetarian dumplings. Half my order was wrong and I couldn't even eat one of the dishes. The green beans were not crispy and water chestnuts were bland. Don't recommend. Called back to let them know and see if I could exchange or return for money but they had closed by 9. read more

I've been eating here since I was a kid, and I truly adore this place! They have the best eggrolls I've ever had, I always order extra to bring home to eat in Austin! I really love the option to substitute fried rice for white rice on the entrees. If you're in town do yourself a favor and stop in, three generations of my family have adored this place. Be sure to tip these hard working folks extra, because the food is ridiculously affordable, especially the lunch special! read more

Well kept secret along 90. Attentive buy gracious hosts. Go to for eating Chinese out

This is the BEST AUTHENTIC Chinese food around. The owner will tailor your dining experience by simply mentioning to her what you're in the mood for. My advise is - trust her!!! The homemade ginger is to die for, as is the dark meat General Tso's chicken. You will NOT be disappointed with any dish!!! read more

All the aesthetics of your typical Chinese spot. First time eating from here... Togo order: 2 shrimp rolls, Shrimp fried rice, and Shrimp egg foo yung. Hood certified! Generous portions, nice sized shrimp. Gravy was on point. Pass on the shrimp rolls, they were terrible. Overall great experience. Next visit, I'll dine in. read more

If you're looking for amazingly good and authentic Chinese food, this is your place! I have been coming here since I was little with my family and it has only gotten better. They have the best soups - Wonton, egg drop, hot and sour are all so good! The crispy egg rolls are fantastic - make sure to use the sweet & sour sauce and hot mustard to dip them in. There's so many great entrees to choose from. My personal favorites are the Sesame Chicken, Walnut Shrimp, Crispy beef, and General Tso Chicken. Get the unsweetened tea for your drink and add a sweetener in it, always refreshing. I look forward to coming here and it will continue to be a family favorite! read more

This place is a hidden gem. From the moment we opened the doors we were welcomed by what seems like a family owned restaurant. The service was great, we never had to ask for anything. It's almost like they read your mind before your mind even said anything. The steam dumplings... wow!!! Delicious and the presentation was very nice. We ordered chicken fried rice and sesame chicken. It took longer than normal restaurant and we were totally okay with that because if their dumplings were this good, imagine the actual entree? Omgosh they did not disappoint by far the best sesame chicken we've ever had and we are foodies so we know. This will not be my go to place for Asian cuisine. Thank you for bringing flavor and love into the food. read more

I've been back to this location several times, food and service are exceptional. Cannot describe this place. Every single item we tried was phenomenal. The fried catfish has a special sauce to die for! The pork dumplings arrive with a pickled ginger that is also outta this world. Grandkids highly recommend won ton soup. We get 7-8 entrees and share. There is a huge lazy susan in the middle of the table. Wait staff are attentive and remarkably efficient. Hats off to the chef who makes the food fresh and delivers our large order together. We have tried sweet and sour chicken, orange chicken, hunan delight( mmm has scallops and mushrooms and walnut!!) General Tsos chicken, Beef and Broccoli. ALL IS UNBELIEVABLY fresh and delish. No mystery meat. High marks. read more

My family really enjoy coming here. The waiters are so nice. Dinner meals are a good size. We always end up taking some home for later. I think the egg rolls are the best.My husband likes the Mongolian beef or teriyaki beef and like the sweet and sour chicken. The grandchildren also feel so special when they come here because staff is so super friendly. read more

We've lived in the Sugar Land area for the past 17 years but haven't had a chance to dine at the Hunan Garden, in Rosenberg! We did today and it was fabulous!! The hot and sour soup was excellent but it failed in comparison to both the Walnut Shrimp and Jalapeño Beef entrees which were some of the best Chinese food we've ever had!!!! The egg roll and crab puff were superb but the outstanding service we received put an exclamation point to our Anniversary dinner!!! Thank you so much and we'll be back soon!!! read more

Not worth the price food is bland and price is high. They are nice people just wasn't my taste. Both wife and I agree just okay if that.

Excellent spot for some classic Chinese food. Came for lunch and had the lunch special with General Tso's chicken which came with a great hot and sour soup. The lunch portion of the chicken was a little small, but it was very good. It was hot without being too hot, and the sauce had just the right level of sweetness. The service was very good and the staff were polite and friendly. Definitely worth the trip if you are in the area. read more

Food is always good; prices are reasonable, and portions are big. Love their eggrolls!

Decent portions and price. Always get the treasure chicken with steamed rice and it's enough for two and even for left overs.

If you like old school Americanized Chinese food that you used to be able to find in most shopping centers, this is the place. It also helps that the service here is first rate. Special requests are no problem. Drink refills happen before you can even think you're ready for one. They're more than gracious about packaging up to go orders. And the service gets hospitality -- it approaches the level of dining at a friend's home. The food itself is excellent too. The fried pork dumplings are clearly homemade and the ginger sauce with them has freshly shredded ginger in it. I like the fried wonton chips they brought out as an appetizer. My orange beef was excellent. Not only was it lightly fried to perfection, the orange sauce wasn't a thick, sweet sauce, but a lighter sauce with a touch of heat. My lunch companion's General Tso's Chicken was equally on point. (And I liked how you have the option of dark or white meat for the chicken.) Definitely one of the better Chinese meals I've had in a long time. read more

Elaine and Tony are still there as the backbone of the best Chinese food in the Sugar Land area. One doesn't appreciate how good it is until one moves away and tries sub-standard after sun-standard fare. The Sesame Chicken (make it spicy) is the best! read more

The first thing that hits when you walk in is the smell of sewage. It's awful. The lady who owns/runs the place is rude as can be. My Nextdoor group has a laundry list of complaints as well. My folks love this place so I'm taking them back here again tonight for Mother's Day early since I'll be out of town on Sunday. Happy Family is my Mum's favorite dish - shrimp, beef, BBQ pork and chicken breast sautéed with crisp veggies in their special sauce. Dad ordered his old stand-by, Sweet & Sour Pork and it didn't disappoint! Mum's other favorite is the Walnut Shrimp so of course I have to order it but also helps that it is my favorite too! The owner says that it was one of her fdishes and was instrumental in getting so many repeat customers more than 30 years ago! They have had us as repeat customers too now for more than 15 years ourselves. read more

Hunan Garden is most AMAZING!! I am a foodie visiting my sister from Atlanta, and she recommended this marvelous restaurant to me. I'm all for Chinese food, but this is not your typical Chinese food place. The menu was filled with entrees I have never heard of. As I was perusing the menu, a beautiful woman came to our table to check on us. As it turns out, she was the owner and creator of these dishes. She was so helpful in suggesting paired dishes and flavors. We ended up getting the tropical shrimp, which were lightly breaded and fried accompanied by the most savory mangoes and pears, and for our second entree, she suggested the lively chicken with sugar snap peas. This was an ideal, complimentary entree to enjoy with our tropical shrimp! If you have an appreciation for delicious, beautiful food, give Hunan Garden a try!! read more

The owner is extremely rude! She's loud and dismissive and doesn't let you finish speaking before interrupting you. While the food is good and I have been a customer since the early 2000s, I will never go back again. It seems the popularity has gotten to her head, and she's let that good, small town, family-oriented feeling that used to be in her restaurant slip through her fingers. read more

Don't believe the report about sewage, it's just false. There was a comment on Next Door the lady read and she hasn't even eaten at Hunan in years. I go to this restaurant often and it is the best Chinese food around. It is family owned and the people who own it and the staff are all very polite and nice. I work nearby during certain times of the year and many of us eat there weekly. The food is excellent, I have never ordered anything I did not like. People who like to make a fuss on social media hurt restaurants like this that have been around more than 30 years. I don't know if many other restaurants that have been in the area for this long, everyone I know goes here for authentic Chinese food. read more
