I have not read through any of the ratings for this restaurant however, I will tell you it is extremely efficient, the food at least that I had was quite good primarily steamed vegetable and pork dumplings, the ambience is nothing special, but it reminds me of an old Chinese restaurant. And the service is absolutely remarkable. I would say frankly, given the cost that this is a very good deal if you like American Chinese food and if you know, American Chinese food well enough to find some exceptions to just the standard fair of a Chinese restaurant. I will also add that with the number of phone calls coming in their takeout business has got to be amazing. I respect other yelpers ratings have not read any of them, but will do so after I post mine just to understand why someone would not have given this Restaurant a higher rating than what it has on yelp currently. We have been regulars at Hunan Garden for 13 years and over the past 6 months or so the food has just not been what it used to be, some items even completely changing the recipe and to be honest a few have just become terrible. We found out the restaurant had been sold right about this time and everything is starting to make sense now, except why you take a restaurant that has been in business 40 years and start altering recipes. Any restaurateur will tell you that lifespan is incredible, work on other things but never change recipes or your long standing customers walk. Came here for the 1st time with family from out of town. The menu was very limited and service was horrible. No one got refills or were we ever checked on to see if we needed anything. The food came out hot and was decent. The atmosphere was pretty cool. However, days later we were notified by the sheriff that my parent's credit card had been compromised by this individual working at the restaurant. He tried using a significant amount of money at one point causing the bank to put a hold on their card. This was after he already went on a shopping spree with their money. We didn't get our lomein, but the guy we spoke to, Jackie, assured us our refund and still invited us in to pick up our lomein. We will be going again soon to give it a try. My late hubby introduced me to this place and I had to stop by for lunch one day when I was out that way. I went for lunch and everyone was very attentive. I ordered the General Tsao chicken, white chicken, which came with soup and I opted for steam rice. I also ordered their shrimp egg roll. The opted for the sweet and sour soup and it wasn't what I'm used to when it comes to sweet and sour soup but still good. The shrimp roll was sooooo good as always. I'm so disappointed after going here for special occasions for 15+ years. The Crispy Walnut Shrimp was chewy, the Crispy Szechuan Beef was so tough it was like shoe leather. Embarrassing management told us to put our Service Dog on the floor (we were in a corner booth and she was asleep on the seat next to my wife) and we complied. Then he came back and interrupted our conversation to repeat his request and took ten minutes to explain why. What a horrible experience. We won't be back. read more

I've been eating here since I was a kid, and I truly adore this place! They have the best eggrolls I've ever had, I always order extra to bring home to eat in Austin! I really love the option to substitute fried rice for white rice on the entrees. If you're in town do yourself a favor and stop in, three generations of my family have adored this place. This place is a hidden gem. From the moment we opened the doors we were welcomed by what seems like a family owned restaurant. The service was great, we never had to ask for anything. It's almost like they read your mind before your mind even said anything. The steam dumplings... wow!!! Delicious and the presentation was very nice. We ordered chicken fried rice and sesame chicken. It took longer than normal restaurant and we were totally okay with that because if their dumplings were this good, imagine the actual entree? They have the best soups - Wonton, egg drop, hot and sour are all so good! The crispy egg rolls are fantastic - make sure to use the sweet & sour sauce and hot mustard to dip them in. There's so many great entrees to choose from. My personal favorites are the Sesame Chicken, Walnut Shrimp, Crispy beef, and General Tso Chicken. My family really enjoy coming here. The waiters are so nice. Dinner meals are a good size. We always end up taking some home for later. Cannot describe this place. Every single item we tried was phenomenal. The fried catfish has a special sauce to die for! The pork dumplings arrive with a pickled ginger that is also outta this world. Grandkids highly recommend won ton soup. We get 7-8 entrees and share. There is a huge lazy susan in the middle of the table. Wait staff are attentive and remarkably efficient. The hot and sour soup was excellent but it failed in comparison to both the Walnut Shrimp and Jalapeño Beef entrees which were some of the best Chinese food we've ever had!!!! Excellent spot for some classic Chinese food. Came for lunch and had the lunch special with General Tso's chicken which came with a great hot and sour soup. The lunch portion of the chicken was a little small, but it was very good. It was hot without being too hot, and the sauce had just the right level of sweetness. If you like old school Americanized Chinese food that you used to be able to find in most shopping centers, this is the place. It also helps that the service here is first rate. Special requests are no problem. Drink refills happen before you can even think you're ready for one. They're more than gracious about packaging up to go orders. And the service gets hospitality -- it approaches the level of dining at a friend's home. The food itself is excellent too. The fried pork dumplings are clearly homemade and the ginger sauce with them has freshly shredded ginger in it. I like the fried wonton chips they brought out as an appetizer. My orange beef was excellent. Not only was it lightly fried to perfection, the orange sauce wasn't a thick, sweet sauce, but a lighter sauce with a touch of heat. My lunch companion's General Tso's Chicken was equally on point. (And I liked how you have the option of dark or white meat for the chicken.) I go to this restaurant often and it is the best Chinese food around. It is family owned and the people who own it and the staff are all very polite and nice. I work nearby during certain times of the year and many of us eat there weekly. The food is excellent, I have never ordered anything I did not like. People who like to make a fuss on social media hurt restaurants like this that have been around more than 30 years. My folks love this place so I'm taking them back here again tonight for Mother's Day early since I'll be out of town on Sunday. Happy Family is my Mum's favorite dish - shrimp, beef, BBQ pork and chicken breast sautéed with crisp veggies in their special sauce. Dad ordered his old stand-by, Sweet & Sour Pork and it didn't disappoint! Mum's other favorite is the Walnut Shrimp so of course I have to order it but also helps that it is my favorite too! The owner welcomed us with open arms. She told us they have been serving the community for 37 years. I asked her to choose my meal and I'm so glad I did.
