Best service I've had in years. Mary-Anne was not only friendly and made us feel like she genuinely loved her job and happy to have us, but knew the menu and specials super well, was able to make recommendations without coming off as pushy. My partner and friend tried one of the specials and couldn't stop saying how good it was. As a vegan the options were accommodating and delicious, while the rest of the menu left my partner and friend with nothing to be desired - the food was incredible all around. The atmosphere is relaxing, classy but not at all pretentious, music wasn't too loud either. But I cannot express enough - how incredible Mary-Anne was as a server. Thank you so much! read more

We visited Hello Sunshine during a family ski trip to Banff and were so impressed. The restaurant offers a great vibe with good music and a warm atmosphere. Service was prompt, knowledgeable and friendly. Our server, Jess, offered recommendations on many menu items, including sushi and sake. We were smart enough to follow her recommendations and loved all the selections. The sushi was very fresh and flavorful and the warm sake paired really well with all the plates. Jess provided great service; prompt and attentive without being overbearing or rushing us. The menu offered choices for everyone in the family to find something they enjoyed, and sharing everything family style let us experience several varieties of rolls. Overall, this was a wonderful experience and we would love to visit again. read more

MARY ANN WAS SO FUN! We were just visiting Banff for vacation and we were exhausted from hiking Lake Louise but Mary Ann definitely lifted our spirits. Wishing we could've used the karaoke rooms where you can dine in them too (free for 8-14 people, $200+ for less). The food portions were good for one, though they recommend sharing plates which was a little odd. We were three people and got 2 mains + an appetizer + sushi. It was just enough for our stomachs though our cravings wanted more food- specifically the Salmon Fried Rice Bowl. The Salmon was made medium rare and SO TASTY. Very similar to a poke bowl, though not a lot of fried rice was on it (under all the toppings shown in the picture). The glazed eggplant was tasty as well, the miso really shown through with the greens on the plate. The miso sablefish also flaked very nicely and the crisped rice on the plate was very good. THE MUSHROOM GRAVY SAUCE WITH THIS WAS SO GOOD. At the end of our meal I ended up drinking this on its own (its that good!) the torched pressed sushi was also very tasty, wish it was a little bigger in portion for us three! The closest free parking is on Bow Avenue north though theres closer parking spots for $3/hour. Make sure to reserve your spot ahead of time! read more

Fantastic food, service and ambience. This place has it all! We loved the sushi and ramen; highly recommend!!!

One of my go to spots in Banff! The drinks are so good and the foods even better! Happy hr here is a must, rolls and ramen with a matcha colada, can't get much better! I love the scallop carpaccio, blue fin tuna sashimi, spicy pork ramen, Maui wowie and spicy tuna rolls.. and the a5 wagyu is something you have to try at least once in your life(it's so rich that a little bit goes a long way, we shared 3oz and I don't think I could have eaten more!) If you sit at the bar you can't not do a "joe sake bomb" with your friends.. so fun! read more

Amazing amazing food, super great some of the best sushi I have ever had. But on the expensive side but marvelous. Service was great, and everyone was super friendly. We had all the happy hour rolls and they were all fantastic. It was beautiful inside and whenever I go back to Banff. I will return read more

The food is spectacular! The service was ok and the ambient is great! Would go back for sure. A little pricy though.

Service was great and the presentation was wowing. The sushi rice was a little different and alot. Cute place for a date. I did like their cocktails. read more

Good, prompt service, though not exactly friendly- felt like they want you out quickly. Did the very early happy hour which are only select items, but the were fresh and very good. Make sure you reserve for their one hour happy hour. It's very early at 4pm but worth it. read more

Sushi was light on fish and heavy on rice. Sushi was rolled so loosely it was impossible to pick up. The beef tataki was tasty but so small. The waitress was polite as was all the staff but the food is way overpriced for what you get. Will not return here. read more

Really good food. Unique and delicious. Cool decor. Our server offered many recommendations and we did try a few. All tasted really good.

Came here for happy hour. There was just a small list of 50% sushi rolls but were good. Need to remind the server for my drink but quickly came. The restaurant has a nice ambiance and fun sitting at one table with a fire in the middle. A fun place to meet friends. read more

I came here while visiting Banff National Park. I'm from California and I loved this place! The sushi was great and so were the Bao pork buns! I loved the vibe and the interior is so cute! We've ordered sushi rolls with the sticky rice that was not well cooked, and the noodles as well and was quite spicy. The restaurant is under our expectation, and the total amount was around $100. Really not worthy of being there. We found there were a few Japanese style restaurants nearby. read more

The service was incredible, they were really nice and quick, the food was just to die for, and the place was really cool and had a fun design.I would have given this place a 6 star review if I could. read more

Family of 4 came for Saturday dinner and seated at the bar with views of the sushi chefs and kitchen. I was immediately impressed with the ambiance which is trendy, modern and new. The food highlights were the scallop carpaccio which was excellent and the best plate I've eaten in Banff all week. I also recommend the mushroom okinomiyaki--lots of tender sautéed mushroom. We ordered sushi rolls which were both average--snow crab California roll with very little crab flavor and torched BBQ salmon roll with very thin slices of salmon. At the table we watched the chefs making these. They were young ladies who looked like they were in a factory cranking out sushi rolls. The ramens were also average flavor with one piece of meat, lots of noodles and little toppings. One of our dishes was missed and I was dissatisfied with our server who failed to check on it with the kitchen twice even though we kept asking for it. Overall there are other better places to eat in Banff. read more

Great place to try for an early afternoon happy hour. We tried all 5 happy hour sushi rolls and the edamame. Really cool design/interior as well! read more

Service was amazing. Food was meh. Sushi was stale. Ramen tasted like it was out of a cup noodles. Drinks was a hit and miss. Probably will not go there again for food, but maybe for drinks. read more

Hello Sunshine was such a cool joint after a long drive and day in Jasper. The hostess and wait staff were full of energy, and the menu offerings were a plenty. Wish I could've tried their sake flight but alas I had plenty of road ahead of me tonight. For $100 after tip, I got the scallop ceviche, king salmon oshi (pressed sushi), and for a main, the miso sable fish. Scallop ceviche with the fried wonton chips were A+ and super fresh. The oshi was good, and filling I might add. I would've liked a bit more of that char flavor from the searing process. The miso paste on top of the sable fish was a bit too sour for my taste so I scraped it off, but the rest of the fish and huge prawns x2 were delish. The seared rice patty was a new thing for me, I liked the lightly toasted flavor but it was mushy inside and wasn't a highlight for me. Maybe more rice vinegar would liven it up. Those juicy prawns were memorable tho. High score for the ambience, decor, music, and styling. Prices seem about 12-15% high, but overall I was happy with my selections and would recommend this for a try out for a great Banff dining experience. And apparently they have private karaoke too, sweet! Thanks to Arlene S. for pointing out this place on her Yelp feed! read more

Service: Not sure if it was a particularly hard day for our server, but they seemed disinterested from the start. They did their job though -- but nothing more. Food: they try to do a different take on Japanese food, but it's a bit of a miss for me. their sushi rolls are extremely small for the price (6 small pieces for $15-28). The rice falls apart very easily when you pick it up, and the sushi looks sloppy. I had higher expectations given previous ratings. The flavours were there, but overall disappointing because of the portions and presentation. The karaage was pretty tender, though small portions again. For the tempura, they tried to do a different take here as well with a different crust, but their crust was a little too hard for me, not the light flaky tempura one would usually expect. Ambiance: As with previous reviews, the decor and ambiance are great. Definitely a place to meet up with friends for drinks and snacks, but perhaps not the best place for a family dinner as it does get loud. read more

Really hip, unique spot with extremely solid sushi. The Japanese ski lodge-like decor is one of a kind and the sushi was extremely fresh and well prepared-- Spicy Tuna had probably some of the best kick that I've ever tasted. I'd definitely make an effort to come here on any return visit, particularly for the 50% sushi happy hour. (430-530pm Sun to Fri) read more

Excellent service and the food was delicious. Will definitely return on next trip. On a packed night the atmosphere was excellent.

Just got back from Banff and this restaurant is all the rave. The food is amazing and the atmosphere and ambience is super cool and unique. It feels like a fancy restaurant right out of Vegas but located in the heart of Banff. Special shoutout to Becca Clark, the assistant GM, for getting my son's lost toque back to us. Very much appreciated for the extra work and can't wait to visit again very soon. read more

This was my favorite place in Banff. Gorgeous interiors, excellent food, and excellent service. The spicy carpaccio was unique and excellent. Pork bao buns were good. Chicken teriyaki and A5 Wagyu were outstanding. My partner loved the Hitachino Nest Yuzu Lager and I loved the Matcha Colada. Not really into the Passionfruit + Mint Mojito or Spicy Mango Paloma. If I lived in Banff I would go to this restaurant weekly! read more

We ate two nights in a row here, the first for our first night in Banff, the second, to try the sushi happy hour. The food here is Japanese fusion, with a large menu of ramen, steak, chicken, appetizers, and sushi. The tempura squash is a must, so delicious and nicely salted, followed by the mushroom okonomiyaki, which had an assortment of mushrooms on top. The ramen is great, the chicken ramen comes with chicken broth, while the pork ramen comes with a beautiful piece of pork. Ramen eggs were cooked perfectly. Service was always extremely friendly and attentive. There is also plenty of room in the restaurant (not cramped) and a lot of bar seating. read more

Great new Japanese restaurant. The service was excellent, they were familiar with the menu and followed up during the meal to make sure we were enjoying the food and had everything. The food was excellent as well, had the sable fish as a main, it was the best I have had. Great design inside, including a fire table. read more

Hello Sunshine had the best service and entertainment. Not only was the food 5 out of 5 stars but Cam and Ally were the best server and manager duo. The drinks and karaoke were the best combination and they made sure my group was taken care of. The best baff experience! read more

The service was wonderful. The craft cocktails were amazing. We loved the happy hour specials. The problem was their actual entrees. The rock waygu was fatty cuts. We have had this dish on many occasions and can definitely confirm this is the worst. Chewy and flavorless. Do not order. Overall would come back for happy hour or appetizers but not worth having a meal. read more

"The gentrification of Banff". Yes Banff is not cheap, but this place tries to be what Banff is not. Mediocre Japanese food with premium prices. Salt based menu (many dishes over salted). The rainbow press that we had was the saving Grace as it was great! There are many better Banff/Alberta places to visit that aren't this LA rip off. read more

Love the aesthetic! Waitress was very helpful and kind. Easy to make a reservation online. Ramen was okay. My friends who had the sushi really enjoyed it though and said it was high quality. The cocktail I had was mainly ice. read more

Food wasn't as fresh as expected. Sushi rolls felt pre-made and refrigerated, where they add topping before serving. Charcoal grilled chicken felt pre-made as well, I guess they cook it upfront and then just cover with sauce and reheat, nothing "grilled" about it. Ambience is really nice, with a fireplace in the middle. Service okay, stuff is nice but no one asked if we want another drink, and we just set with empty glasses thru the meal... Will not be back and would not recommend to friends and family. read more

This place is really beautiful. I sat at the sushi bar because I was dining solo. Not a very friendly sushi staff behind the bar, but they make pretty delicious food. The spicy shrimp hand roll was one of my favorites. I'd leave the fried lobster roll behind. So much Mayo on that one. The salmon nigiri was incredibly delicious too. Yuzu cocktail was perfect. Would definitely come again. read more

This is one joint you don't want to miss in Banff. The food, ambiance, and the vibe was fantastic. The food was excellent.
