I love this hotel and the restaurant and bar, it's become a second home in fact. The staff are amazing, it's exactly what you want from a local pub where everyone knows your name and is friendly but not too friendly. Plus they have free pool billiards on Sundays. Actually I'm feeling really stupid I probably shouldn't post this because I don't want it to get more popular than it is. I just wanted to say thank you to the hotel and the staff especially the incredible waitress Jackie, they are all fabulous.

Fish and chips at Texas Gate. Fish was dry.

First of all the place itself is absolutely awesome. Texas Gate is more of a bar but they have a dining room attached and a hotel. The building is historical with all the wood and floor creaks to impress any historian. We also stayed to the hotel (Rockyview Hotel) and highly recommend. Ok not to the food. The food was pretty average. One item that stood out though was the wings. You have to get the wings. Perhaps had a bit too much sauce but the wings were cooking perfectly. We had the non breaded ones. For our entrees hubby had the steak sandwich and I had the fish n chips. The taste on the steak was great but way over done. He asked for med rare and got almost well done. Fries were excellent. For the fish I wouldn't recommend it. The batter was good and then but the fish was over cooked. We also went for breakfast the next day. I had the classic eggs Bennie and hubby had the tuna sandwich. Tuna sandwich was good. Recommend. The eggs Bennie were ok. Unfortunately the eggs were cooked too long. I asked for med and they were hard. Sauce was ok but not homemade. Hash browns can with and they were good. That all being said the service was outstanding. These guys are so friendly and awesome that you'll have a great time while here and the historical ambiance is pretty cool!!

Hockey and soccer were playing on the big screens throughout the restaurant, the room was lively without feeling overwhelming, and there was plenty of space for our group. One of the fun touches was the hockey stick décor. I kept things on the lighter side and ordered the steak bites with a side salad and balsamic dressing to avoid the extra carbs. The steak bites were tender and flavorful, and the salad was fresh with plenty of vegetables. We also shared an order of fried pickles that disappeared quickly. They were crispy, hot, and delicious. The tzatziki sauce was a great touch to make them pop. Everyone else ordered something different, including burgers, poutine, fish and chips, and a Caesar salad. There wasn't a single complaint. The portions looked generous and everyone seemed happy with their meal. I had a few bites of the burger (without the bun) and really enjoyed their flavor. Fries were good too (I stole a few, no carbs if I didn't order them right?) What really stood out was the service. Our server was friendly, attentive, and incredibly fast, especially considering the size of our group. She checked in often, kept drinks topped off, and made sure everything arrived correctly without ever making us feel rushed. If you're looking for a casual place to watch a game, grab a beer, and feed a group without any hassle, this is an easy recommendation. I'd definitely stop in again.

In addition to the promo slices, I ordered three kids' meals--one for the player and one each for his sister and brother. The kids' meal is advertised at $7.99, which includes one main, one pop, and one dessert. However, when the bill arrived, there was an extra $3.99 charge for a pop. When I questioned this, the server told me that because the kids' meal was for a player who already received the free pizza, the drink was no longer included. This policy was never explained beforehand. I didn't ask for a free drink--I ordered a kids' meal as advertised. The free pizza slices are very small and not enough as a meal, which is why I ordered the kids' meal in the first place. With the added charge, the kids' meal became $11.98, which is no longer a kids' meal price and is not what was advertised. If there is a policy that changes what is included in a kids' meal when a promotion is involved, it should be clearly communicated before ordering. This experience felt misleading and left a very negative impression.

The Flames game was on which was great to watch while enjoying our meal. It wasn't too busy when we got there but a a large party came in later. After 9p they have happy hour so we ordered off that menu. We got Sweet Potato Fries, Dry ribs, Mini Yorkshire Trio, and a Kids Grilled Cheese with Caesar salad. All the food was really good and great for sharing. My son really enjoyed the grilled cheese. The fries had a slight crispness and moist on the inside. The dry ribs had the right amount of salt and pepper. The mini yorkshire's were a highlight. Our server Rabeaca was awesome. Very warm and friendly - always had a smile. Came around enough times to see how were were doing without being too pressured. We started going to different Original Joe's and this one is really good. We will definitely be back when we are in town again.

Second time, I had beef dip, it was average. I got the same sides both times - veggies and dip, it was great on both occasions, and fries. The first time the fries were good, the second was not. My ranch and dill dip were room temp the second time around, which was somewhat unsettling. First trip, my date and I had Stella - it was on special and it was tasty and crispy. On my second visit, my date had an ice cold Guinness, I had the blond, both were cold and refreshing. I tried a sip of the Guinness and it was the best I have ever had. I would go there for drinks, but if I'm looking for a solid meal, Original Joes would not be my first pick, I think there are better places but it is conveniently located and you know what you're going to get. Decent hospitality and service from the waiters and waitresses. xo

As a…read moreresult I did not want to be "that guy" and raise an issue at the restaurant and even if we were on our own, I likely still don't raise the issue but just simply not return to the restaurant. We dine out a lot so this was not a case of not having comparables. Service was very pleasant and attentive. 3 out of 4 meals were fine. All salmon based dishes that were enjoyed. The fourth was the Alberta Lamb Top Sirloin. I wish I would have taken a picture of the meal. The price was $62 for the entree which I find is in line with mid to higher end restaurants in Calgary and expected. What was surprising was that the entree consisted of two pieces of lamb that each would be slightly above the size of a golf ball. I actually cut it into small pieces just so that it would last longer. There were a couple of slices of potatoes and a small amount of seasonal vegetables. In my head I was saying, "seriously" or "that's it". I would say that since Covid occurred, prices at restaurants have risen about 40% higher and given that we still dine out quite a bit, I have been accustomed to this new pricing but I simply would not return to Flores and Pine given the complete lack of value. It is a shame because the room and ambience was nice and this restaurant had been on our list to try since it has opened. I don't believe I have ever written a review of a restaurant and I have certainly have had worse meals at a restaurant but these were likely at a pub or chain restaurant where I have few expectations. Anyway, as mentioned the other 3 in our party enjoyed their meals and it was only I that had an issue.

The dessert was a small tablespoon of fresh fruit on the whipped egg white wasn't even close to a serving. At $18, it was not value for money. The wines were good, but we were refilling our own glasses, which was poor service for a meal at a rop restaurant. When one pays $500 for a meal for 3 people, one expects top line. This was not.
