I frequent this Hello Bistro location when I'm in the office. Online ordering is very easy, so that's what I usually do. I recently went in and tried a variety of items- a salad, a wrap, and ranch fries. Everything was fresh and the flavors worked well together. I usually make my own salad but I ordered one of their suggested salads and was happy with it. I normally don't dine in but I did this time. The store was clean and the mural on the back wall is fun too. I had a great experience and I'll continue to come back. read more

I got a chicken Caesar wrap and it had WAY too much parm cheese and dressing and barely any chicken. I could only each half of it because it was so bad. If you order this I recommend asking for light cheese and dressing. Staff was kind and restaurant was clean, but service was slow and it wasn't crowded at all the day I was here. read more

I see it it's been five years since I reviewed Hello Bistro, which remains one of my go-to lunch spots. Reading my previous review, it's about time for an update. The main update is the kiosk-centered ordering system. You can still go and place your order at the counter if the kiosk is something you can't deal with for some reason, but 90% or more of people go through the kiosk which is fast and convenient. It allows you to choose from every single option on the salad bar if you are customizing a salad. I recently reviewed another place and critiqued that their kiosk system did not allow you enough possibility for customization; this system is just about infinite, with the ability to add or remove items from their creations, or make your own exactly how you want it, down to choosing how much dressing you want. It's pretty slick. You then grab a pager, input which pager number you have and your pager will buzz when your salad is ready. They still have their other menu items like burgers and fries as well, but a custom salad is my go-to here. I pay around $13 for that salad which accounts for the addition of avocado and it's absolutely huge, enough for two portions unless you are the hungriest of hungry. There is space to dine in if you like but they do a pretty robust to-go business here. Efficient, friendly and accurate. read more

Really good and large portions! I was in town and wanted to grab something before heading to my hotel. The order kiosks made the process easy walking you through each part of the order. I got the classic Cobb salad with the fiesta chicken. The topping were balanced really well with a good amount of avocado on top. They gave me two cups of dressing which was perfect. Oh man.......well, I love the concept. Easy process ordering food at the self-help kiosks. You then pick a buzzer, enter the number of it upon check-out and your buzzer goes off when your bowl is ready. Except.....they seriously suck at getting the ingredients right. I think they probably put too much of something in the bowl they made before mine so they just left it there and didn't bother to add the rest of what I had ordered. I was missing beets, banana peppers, bacon, and mushrooms. Oh wait- I found ONE mushroom in there. Then they also added broccoli (which I really don't like raw) and soy beans, which I also don't really care for. They got some of the ingredients right and they put the chicken on, so they tried (I guess?) And I know I picked up the correct order on the counter, because the chit-sheet was taped to the top of my bowl with a detail of what it was supposed to contain. I can only speak to the salads here. I typically visit around lunch time when working downtown. It used to be uncomfortably crowded during this time but since COVID is more manageable. The staff is always friendly. Everyone wears gloves. The store is always clean. I usually build my own salad. They have a ton of toppings and a lot of great dressing options. My personal favorite being the Citrus Lime vinaigrette. Salads run $12-15 depending on if you add meat or not. I typically get the salmon mixed into my salads. I do not recommend the chicken. I was told they make it fresh in the store but it really isn't good. It's been dry and tastes weird every time I have gotten it. read more

Came here for lunch with coworkers - we all put our order in ahead online to be ready for when we arrived. Our orders were ready on the order wall and as we were walking to have a seat 2 workers were audibly arguing at the cash register. When we sat down the sound of the workers was so overwhelming it was almost impossible to have a conversation. They were throwing bowls, slamming doors and throwing things onto their workstation. It was so loud! The pop machine wasn't working, our fries were cold/old and they missed several ingredients in almost everyone's salad order. Did not feel that the $20 we each spent for a salad with missing ingredients, cold fries and pop that sprayed carbonation was worth it. It was a rough visit. read more

As far as this particular downtown location, it's probably the worst or next to the worst location for an otherwise great local chain. The usually indifferent service, as well as the dirty feel provide a contrast to the great menu offerings of the Hello Bistro chain. This restaurant offers a tasty, affordable selection of freshly made burgers, sandwiches and excellent salads. Great Item selections for the salads, and the fact that they will chop your greens however you like it, makes it even easier to eat some good kale or spinach. read more

I want to start by saying that I love salads and like other Hello Bistros however, this specific location, whether it be that they are understaffed and getting absolutely killed or they need better management, needs to step up their game. Every time for the past at least 5 times that I have been there it has been a complete mess. Vegetable toppings mixed with other toppings, food smushed into the cutting boards, food all over the ground and a perished scent lingering in the air. I was willing to look past this since this location is in market square and I know how busy they are because I pass by them almost daily around lunch but the pictures I took and the reason that I am writing this review is because these were taken at 6!! I've been to Hello Bistro a few times, the 1st location I visited was in Oakland. Simple, clean food, with a build your own variety. I can't say the same for this location in downtown Pittsburgh. Yes, the food and the concept was the same. But this place was a mess even the employees looked sloppy and handled the orders like a public school lunch lady. And nobody wore a belt or maybe it was "show your plumber's crack while you make a salad" day. Trash was overflowing and debris were all over the floor from the ordering line to the exit. Even worse, the employees clearly saw this and just didn't care. Bistro is that last thing I would think of after visiting this location. read more

Oh Eat 'n Park you clever devil, you. I've been a fan of the company's HB chain since they began opening all over the area a couple of years back. Elaine from Seinfeld can take her big salad and keep moving. These salads are big...and fresh. I love the bowls and lids to go. Seriously I do. However I love what's in the bowls even more. This review is for the food and online ordering experience only - I have not gotten food here in person, or dined in, so I can't speak to the customer service or atmosphere. This is my favorite place for a healthier lunch downtown. Their salads are comparatively affordable and large portions, plus you can almost always find a coupon online or in the newspaper. It's a very good deal. They have a wide range of traditional salad bar ingredients. Perhaps it's not the most exciting set of toppings, especially in terms of proteins and vegetarian/vegan options, but there is a lot of variety and most importantly the quality has always been fresh. They do tend to be heavy handed with the salad dressings. The online ordering is quick, easy, and reliable. There's even a side entrance right next to the pick up shelves. I like that they don't automatically put every order in a bag with utensils and napkin. You can just pick up the container of salad if you wish to avoid the waste. They do use plastic containers, which aren't always recyclable. read more

Bonus is the classic Eat-n-Park Ranch Dressing. Love it. The one downside to this specific location is the staff. They can be rude and not terribly helpful, especially when you call in an order. I've experienced this a couple of times when their website wasn't working correctly and couldn't order online. I'll forever be a fan of Hello Bistro but will only order from this location if I can do it online. read more

Hello Waiting! Every Hello Bistro I've been to has been terrible. Long wait times, poor service, flies in building. Even when you mobile order, prepare to wait an extra 30 minutes for them to hastily throw your food in a bag & hand it over. I ordered a Superburger Combo meal this afternoon, & specified two specific times to have my burger plain. The burger I got was certainly not plain & looked downright repulsive so I had to throw it away. This was after waiting an extra 30 minutes to pick up my food after mobile ordering. Luckily the food is cheap because I wasted my money. I will never go to Hello Bistro ever again. The best salad I have had in a loooonnnggg time! Another Hello Bistro and in a great spot downtown. You can build your own salad or pick one of the many on the menu. I opted for the Caribbean Shrimp Salad that had lots of fresh greens, some marinated shrimp, avocado, black beans, corn, tortilla strips that added a nice crunch and a very good citrus lime vinaigrette. I like Hello Bistro, don't get me wrong. That said, it's just this location that I've come to despise. Working nearby, I was so excited for this place to open awhile back. My experiences in Southside and Oakland have been better, but this location, well, my experiences have sucked. Whether I place the order online with ample notice of pickup , or order when I'm the sole customer there in the morning, my order has been wrong (more than a handful of times to say the least). I was naive to think eventually things would improve and I kept giving them chance after chance. The worst part of it is the unapologetic attitude that I received from a manager this morning upon returning to my desk with what was not my order. I ordered a skinny scrambler without cheese and was given what I'm calling a filthy scrambler with cheese (and bacon). If that's what I wanted, I would have ordered it. When I called, she said "we knew that but you already left"... And then just robotically took my info and said they may send me a gift card. I even said there was no way I was coming back there, and she didn't even try to sound empathetic to my frustration. I know that I may sound like I'm going a bit overboard, but this was like the 9th time that this has happened and I was very hangry... If I get my gift card that "may" be sent, it will get used in Southside or Oakland where the Hello Bistro staff gets orders right and provides good customer service. Hello Bistro is a great idea. The quality is slightly better than your standard fast food fare, the prices aren't too bad for a regular lunch spot (although $10-12 for a salad that won't fill you up can really add up if you go on a regular basis), and the staff is usually nice. Where this location falters compared to other locations is in consistency and order accuracy. Perhaps it's the INSANE lunch rush, but ordering ahead will result in an inaccurate order 90% of the time. Literally. My wife has almost never received an accurate order when ordering ahead. Breakfast, lunch? It doesn't seem to matter. They can't get it right. Unfortunately, unless you're looking to spend half of your lunch break in the crazy line, ordering ahead (and the possibility of doing so) is the way to go. Or, like we end up doing most of the time...we simply avoid this Hello Bistro altogether. I would love to see this location work out the kinks, as being a locally-owned and operated chain is always great to support, but for the price and quality, the inability to get orders correct will likely drive some people away. Fortunately for Hello Bistro, the lines hint that they won't struggle, regardless of service quality...which means they won't need a reason to improve. read more

If you want to see a well-oiled machine at work during a busy lunch hour in downtown Pittsburgh, go to Hello Bistro. When I stopped in last week I watched about half a dozen workers on the salad bar alone, chopping away and making fresh salads for other customers. Not for me, however, as I opted for a single turkey burger that turned out to be very tasty. Juicy, covered with fresh veggies, and topped off with avocado sauce...talk about yum! And since the order didn't automatically come with a side of fries, as many burgers do, I was able to enjoy a fairly light lunch overall. Not easy to come by in downtown Pittsburgh. That said, while I definitely recommend Hello Bistro for fresher and healthier grub, I don't recommend ordering anything other than salad during the lunch rush; it took a little longer to get my sandwich than a few of the other carry-out salad orders that arrived after me. I understand this, of course. It's a decent price to pay if it means that my food is being prepared as it's ordered, rather than in advance. And I didn't wait an insane amount of time at all. But it's still something to keep in mind if you're in a time crunch. Good food, reasonable wait times, and staff that perform well under the pressure of a jam-packed eatery. I'm new to the Hello Bristro craze however after my trip to this location it'll likely be my last. I have gone to HB a handful of times, this being my first at this location. It was a Friday afternoon-November 11, around 4/5pm and the place wasn't too busy but it looked like I had just missed the rush with the place looking a mess. When it came to order the dressing, I noticed the amount first poured wasn't as much as I'd like and asked for a little more extra. The employee poured way more than necessary. He was nice so maybe he isn't a salad eater or maybe he made a mistake. Also, while this went on I was distracted by another employee at the end of the line eating croutons. In retrospect I should've asked for a new salad but I decided to try it. Needless to say I had to throw it away after a few bites. Nothing worse than throwing away your lunch while at work. I emailed HB about my experience and was contacted after then but when I tried calling back after minutes of ringing my call was eventually disconnected. Ultimately I feel like this falls on management. Keeping a clean restaurant, proper training of employees, and enforcing safe food handling standards is the job of the manager. The employee, again, was kind and I sincerely feel like he didn't realize the amount was way too much. Training employees better on serving sizes would help this issue. As for the cleanliness and employees eating around food-it's up to the manager to correct these issues. I like the idea of HB and would love to see these issues resolved (also not a fan of the ordering process, paying first seems to slow this down-also it always seems to be understaffed). I ordered at 11 for 12:30, which is when I took my 1 hour lunch break at work. I, along with 3 others, got down there, and we all had to wait a minimum of 10 to 15 minutes. After that time, the others got their meal. I had to wait longer, not getting mine until 1pm, which only gave me enough time to walk back to work and rush eat like half my meal. What is the point of pre ordering if it still takes them forever to make it? They didn't even seem to care that they were behind. The guy just shrugged and said "its lunch time" like thats supposed to excuse the fact that it was half an hour late. Half the food wasn't even warm, and it was very sloppily made. I love this place! I've been a huge fan since Hello Bistro originally opened in Oakland. If I'm ever craving a good salad I come here! I am never disappointed with the amount of toppings they offer. Usually when I stop in, there are more options than the last. I always build my own salad and the employees always load it up! I do order almost all the vegetables and the somehow manage to fit it all in that plastic container. I've never had a bad experience at any of their restaurants. I've eaten here so many times, and will continue to! Can't go wrong with a Big Salad. A division of the Eat N Park corporation, Hello Bistro has pretty much any traditional Salad topping you could ask for. Choose your type of lettuce, add your toppings, pick a protein, tell them how you want it chopped up and what dressing you want and its done. Be wary of the lunch crowd at this downtown location, as the line and wait time can get pretty long. I usually go with mixed lettuce with Angry Shrimp and the Thai Peanut sauce. Usually stick to the usual topping like strawberries, onions, banana peppers, ham cubes, chickpeas and mozzarella balls, but have been known to throw a curveball in there every now and again. A good, filling salad that is better for you then most of the other quick lunch options downtown. Also helps that my office is 4 blocks away, so a little walk makes me feel better about myself on top of eating a healthier salad. BTW, they do have sandwiches and even the Super Burger available, but you can go to a regular Eat N Park or anywhere else for that. You end up at Hello Bistro, go with the salad.
