Oh man.......well, I love the concept. Easy process ordering food at the self-help kiosks. You then pick a buzzer, enter the number of it upon check-out and your buzzer goes off when your bowl is ready. Except.....they seriously suck at getting the ingredients right. I think they probably put too much of something in the bowl they made before mine so they just left it there and didn't bother to add the rest of what I had ordered. I was missing beets, banana peppers, bacon, and mushrooms. Oh wait- I found ONE mushroom in there. Then they also added broccoli (which I really don't like raw) and soy beans, which I also don't really care for. They got some of the ingredients right and they put the chicken on, so they tried (I guess?) And I know I picked up the correct order on the counter, because the chit-sheet was taped to the top of my bowl with a detail of what it was supposed to contain. I mean, it still tasted decent, but I wonder what would happen if someone with a food allergy got an order as messed up as mine?

The store isn't busy but food took a while. Fries were COLD & burger and bacon was burnt. I usually love their fries and I ordered a salad.

As far as this particular downtown location, it's probably the worst or next to the worst location for an otherwise great local chain. The usually indifferent service, as well as the dirty feel provide a contrast to the great menu offerings of the Hello Bistro chain. This restaurant offers a tasty, affordable selection of freshly made burgers, sandwiches and excellent salads. Great Item selections for the salads, and the fact that they will chop your greens however you like it, makes it even easier to eat some good kale or spinach.

I've been to Hello Bistro a few times, the 1st location I visited was in Oakland. Simple, clean food, with a build your own variety. I can't say the same for this location in downtown Pittsburgh. Yes, the food and the concept was the same. But this place was a mess even the employees looked sloppy and handled the orders like a public school lunch lady. And nobody wore a belt or maybe it was "show your plumber's crack while you make a salad" day. Trash was overflowing and debris were all over the floor from the ordering line to the exit. Even worse, the employees clearly saw this and just didn't care. Bistro is that last thing I would think of after visiting this location.

Oh Eat 'n Park you clever devil, you. I've been a fan of the company's HB chain since they began opening all over the area a couple of years back. Elaine from Seinfeld can take her big salad and keep moving. These salads are big...and fresh. I love the bowls and lids to go. Seriously I do. However I love what's in the bowls even more. You can choose from custom made salads or an array of salads on the menu. You can mix up their salads however you like. These are the most glorious of salad bars...behold!

Not very good. Unsure where most of the ingredients are....
    Super D.

I ordered a chicken ranch salad and was terribly disappointed. Bland, everything is chopped up so small you can barely differentiate the ingredients. The salad just tasted cold. I think I found one piece of egg. It really boiled down to being just a cheap, bland, salad that I could barely eat. It was not a satisfying salad at all. I didn't even eat it. The pictures online are a lie.

It's titled Avacado Burger - c'mon - one slice of avacado?! It should actually be called the salty burger because that's all I taste, salt. Ew.

I want to start by saying that I love salads and like other Hello Bistros however, this specific location, whether it be that they are understaffed and getting absolutely killed or they need better management, needs to step up their game. Every time for the past at least 5 times that I have been there it has been a complete mess. Vegetable toppings mixed with other toppings, food smushed into the cutting boards, food all over the ground and a perished scent lingering in the air. I was willing to look past this since this location is in market square and I know how busy they are because I pass by them almost daily around lunch but the pictures I took and the reason that I am writing this review is because these were taken at 6!! Plenty of time to get cleaned up IMO. Sending caution to all the folks with allergies as the toppings mix!

Lots of seating, fresh food (can speak to Quinoavacado salad), healthy options, friendly and well staffed employees, under $10 lunch, cool music, modern/simple ambiance. All my check boxes for a good lunch experience. A great, welcomed restaurant addition to the cool, healthy eating options many of us in downtown Pittsburgh are happy to see. I'm glad you are here!

Hello Waiting! Every Hello Bistro I've been to has been terrible. Long wait times, poor service, flies in building. Even when you mobile order, prepare to wait an extra 30 minutes for them to hastily throw your food in a bag & hand it over. I ordered a Superburger Combo meal this afternoon, & specified two specific times to have my burger plain. The burger I got was certainly not plain & looked downright repulsive so I had to throw it away. This was after waiting an extra 30 minutes to pick up my food after mobile ordering. Luckily the food is cheap because I wasted my money. I will never go to Hello Bistro ever again. If you work in Downtown Pittsburgh like I do, I encourage you to go anywhere else for lunch.

Most bowls are rice, greens, and/or beans based with various vegetables for toppings. Heartier than a salad but healthier than Chipotle. I've gotten lunch there a few times and have always been satisfied. My favorite bowl is El Jefe, which comes with rice, kale, black beans, corn, red onion, avocado, and a protein topping (I like the miso tofu but you can also get chicken). The bowl also comes with cilantro/lime sauce, which I do not get because it's very salty. That's my one complaint about Roots - despite their healthy ingredients, their bowls can get quite saucy and salty if you go with the default options. This particular location is well-staffed, so service is usually quick, but it can get a rush of students around 12pm.

The bowl was good but I was a little disappointed in the portion. Roots is a little bit more expensive than other similar options but I usually don't mind as they often give me a very full bowl, but that wasn't the case with the Gary bowl. It was less full than the bowls I usually get along with being very heavy on the rice and not too much chicken or even the kale. Aside from that it was still yummy but I think I'll be going back to my regular order next time.

I wouldn't really call this a supper club to be honest but the place definitely carries a house music bar vibe and the back bar area and seating is very dimly lit, perfect for cozying up and enjoying a drink late night. The ladies' room was so dark, I mistook it for a storage area because I could only make out a white ladder in the corner that was being used as cute shelving. The place is seat yourself. Our waiter was not super friendly and didn't offer to give us napkins or anything when our wobbly table caused our drinks to splash all over the place. The cook served our chicken with a big smile and happy interaction and we really loved his personality. The bartender also stopped by to bus our table and he was very pleasant as well. We enjoyed the perfectly fried small plate cauliflower with the plum sauce and the fried cheese/garlic wonton bites with the sriracha mayo spicy dipping sauce. The fried chicken breast on the large plate was slightly overcooked with a maple gochuchang sauce that was very bland. We were so thankful that the large plate fried chicken came with a side salad to offer some respite from the heaviness of the fried dishes. It would have been great to have some side acidic or fresh vegetable options like Kimchi or something. Maybe we tried the wrong dishes and there are other not fried things that are delicious? The dirty martini cocktail was just so-so, not really much flavor at all, but the mojito was very good and refreshing. It's probably a good late-night place for a bite and drink.

Only thing missing was the cookie table but the dessert was great as well. Everything was comforting and filling. Plenty for us two. They had a special collab beer with 2 Frays, a brewery that is really solid. Was just starting off when I was leaving Pittsburgh 5 years ago and now has been pretty popular in Bloomfield. This resulted in a chaotic atmosphere at the two places where you could order food and constantly having to get up from your table every time you needed something. The staff essentially became food runners and they were not very pleasant. We were told that we could not have an appetizer followed by our main course as "food comes out as it's ready." With the bar being backed up, this meant we received some apparently pre-made food even before our drinks arrived. Again, it felt chaotic. The final proverbial "straw" was that they sat strangers right next to us at the same table which was extremely awkward and uncomfortable. LOVED our dinner at this place…read more We came here for dinner while visiting Pittsburgh. The first thing that struck me was the interior decor. Very industrial and moody with an open kitchen/preparation area that adds some intrigue. I do like to see the happenings of what's going on as someone with zero attention span. Service was excellent. George was fantastic. He kept a close eye on us without being overbearing. He anticipated what we might need so we didn't spend one second waiting to order anything. The menu is not endless or overwhelming which, presumably, allows them to focus on the items that are listed. I have decision panic so it was kinda nice to have less things to choose from. They asked if there were any allergies or dietary restrictions so I mentioned my vegetarianism. George went through the menu and pointed out the vegetarian options including what seems like it is vegetarian but isn't. They had TWO vegetarian entree options and fortunately the non-mushroom one was something I probably would have ordered anyway: pesto with walnuts, arugula, and a very generous amount of grated cheese. To start, I ordered the Brussels sprouts whichc I was warned had fish sauce. This was fine but nothing that blew me away. GF, on the other hand, loved this. GF ordered the wedge which was brought to our attention as vegetarian with the bacon on the side, which was her request. We ended up sharing both, a large part of that was because hers came out first and I couldn't wait but I'm so glad because the wege was FANTASTIC. The dressing? holy fuck pure ecastasy. The wedge was more like a filet shape which was much easier to eat. Who decided on the wedge shape anyway? The lettuce was so fresh and crisp and went wonderfully with that orgasmic dressing and breadcrumbs. Back to my pasta. Also delectable. Noodles were al dente. The sauce was creamy and packed that pesto umami flavor. The walnuts were a really nice contrast in texture. Everything about it absolutely fucking slapped. GF ordered the mushroom entree which came served on a bed of barley which, don't mind if I do, had a few forkfuls to "sample" for "my review". Again, so fucking good. Because it was my birthday, George provided a dessert (yuzu maybe?) that was served inside a meringue-esque igloo, creamy perfect balance of sweet and tart custard with some berry business underneath. Wonderful. I almost forgot their spectacular cocktails! Holy shit, literally they have a CORN CHIP cocktail that I could not pass up. It comes with two massive cornchips on top of a flavored foam. When you bring the glass up to sip, the cornchips are right in front of your nose and their aroma sets the stage for the drink which was STRONG. It wasn't as corn chip forward as I expected but I understand that flavor is probaly hard to create. For my second drink, I ordered the blue one which was refreshing, light, and really good. GF ordered a spritz which was gorgeous "it was good". For second round, I picked out some uranium thing that was very cucumbery, GF says, "it was good". I just read it outloud to her. "it's true!" Fantastic meal at a great place.
