Helen's has a long history in Concord MA and we stopped in for lunch today. I got the cheeseburger, fries, and milkshake special for $16. The milkshake was great and filled me up! The hamburger was okay - very thin although cooked to specification. It was just small for the price. The waitresses hustled and were attentive. Got take-out for Sunday breakfast and they were busy as expected. A simple no-frills small local diner, the portion sizes and value are good. Our blueberry pancakes were decadent and filling. The veggie breakfast sandwich needed some hot sauce for flavor and was a little messy, but about par for the course. Home fries seasoned with old bay could've been crispier for our taste. They forgot the home fries at first so make sure you check before you leave. They were accommodating enough. Pretty solid but also nothing too memorable. Helen's is a cute little restaurant right on the main drag in historical Concord. Didn't do a lot of research or anything, it was the first place we came upon and we popped in. There were a few booths available and a gentleman let us know he had just cleaned one of them and we could sit there is we'd like. Although we didn't see a sign, everyone seems to wait by the door to be seated. I'm not sure if this is an unwritten rule, or if people are just not sure, so they wait. The lunch menu has a variety of sandwiches, salads, soup of the day (tomato or chowder when we visited) burgers and I think pizza. Is that right? They don't have a website so I can't check, but they are on Facebook. There was a full specials menu from which I selected the beet salad with goat cheese. My SO got a tuna melt with bacon and tomato. Nothing here is fancy, just what you'd expect from a hometown cafe or diner. The salad, besides beets and goat cheese, was on a bed of mixed greens with mandarin slices and avocado. Dressing on the side, thank you very much. It was fresh and tasty. The sandwich came with french fries and pickle slices. The fries were good, medium sliced (not thin, not steak fries) and most were crispy outside. The food here is solid. Our waitress was timely and polite. She was a bit brisk, but I don't believe it was meant unkindly. She was chatting in a very familiar manner with some regulars so it's probably just her way. Our food was delivered by someone other than the original waitress, and someone stopped by to check on us a couple of times so we never felt ignored. The prices are a little high but nothing out of this world. Location probably has a bit to do with that. If you like a low key, home style meal, give them a try. They have booths, tables and a small counter over by the open kitchen. read more

Singularly the worst cheeseburger I've had, perhaps in my entire life. $22.50 for a dining experience I would have enjoyed more at McDonald's for much, much less. Four dollars for a watered down, poor excuse for Nestea iced tea, with almost no ice. Not an auspicious beginning. The plate, on initial impression, gave one the sense of a mound of scraps scraped off of plates at the end of a meal. What was meant to be a cheeseburger was a massive pile of wilted Romain, hot house tomatoes, an uninspired, undercooked strip of day-old bacon, and half a jar of some nondescript, cloyingly sweet "BBQ sauce." The thin, grey slap of anemic meat wasn't exactly what you would get at McDonald's or Burger King, it was worse. Far worse. The buns were toasted to a blackened charcoal crispness the likes of which I've never before experienced outside of a Cub Scout cookout. The fries, frankly, aren't worth mentioning. I've had far better at McDonald's, or even Burger King. Speaking of fries, I was asked what side I would like, and was given the options of french fries, or onion rings. I chose onion rings. I received french fries. When I commented on the mistake in the order, the waitress then explained that they didn't, in fact, have onion rings as a side, but as a separate dish, costing $7.99. Would I like that? Given that the BBQ-sauce-soggy onion rings on the burger were particularly wretched reproductions of bog standard frozen onion rings, I declined, saving my calories for something else better, somewhere else better, anywhere else but here. read more

Great spot for quick and tasty take out (or eat in dining which is limited during covid)! Love the green machine smoothie and the kids loved the chicken fingers with fries. Also order custom kids smooth (strawberry and pineapple). Great for the whole family. I personally love the grilled cheese on thick wheat bread with their tasty chips. In Concord, there are only a few dining options so Helen's doesn't have much competition. They are filling a much needed role on main street by providing a casual, sit-down restaurant with amiable food. I live for GOOD pancakes, and their pancake special today of granola-babana-honey flapjacks met my needs. If I'd/they'd added a fruit salad to the mix, it would have been even more fun. The coffee (iced and regular) was surprisingly excellent, so thats another expectation exceeded in one setting. I got a weird vibe from our waitress--either she was stressed, or she thought I was an alien. She may be the one who is onto something here, but assuming she isn't, i'll just say that I felt like we were totally confused by each other. She sort of chuckled after everything we said, but in that "are you kidding me?" kind of way. What? I asked if your iced coffee was coffee with ice, not blended...which may be the stupidest thing you have heard all day but I had to ask! Anyway, we can still be friends next time. Also, last night my family ordered some food for takeout and it all came in styrofoam containers, which is horrible. But the grilled cheese sandwiches and fries that came inside the evil packaging were tasty indeed. Came here on a Tuesday night at 4:45 and the booths were completely empty. We sat down in whichever booth we wanted. There was only one waitress and she came over to talk to us right away. My sister got the Helens special burger with sweet potato fries. This girl is tiny but she said it was so good that she basically licked the plate! I got the Spanish rice bowl, which was okay. The brown rice was hard and the dish was bland overall. The avocados on top were brown. My mom got the mango salsa salmon, which came with a garden salad with balsamic. She said the dish was okay, would not get it again. Remember this place is cash only! You go up to the register with your receipt and leave the cash tip on the table. We went to Helens via trip advisor but were disappointed with quality. I had the Kale Cali Caesar/$10.99. Turns out they did not have shrimp as the menu suggested so I substituted to salmon. My wife ordered the Summer Burrito /$13.49. My wife's burrito was awful. Everything was soggy and rice was uncooked! I mean it was a crunchy rice. My salad was edible but salmon was fried and did not taste fresh. Price was decent and service was ok but quality something to be desired. I would not recommend this restaurant. read more

Visited Concord, MA and found Helen's Restaurant right downtown. Excellent food, great service and warm and welcoming atmosphere. I had the All American Breakfast: 2 eggs, bacon, toast, potatoes and coffee for just $12.99. The coffee was standard fare. Very good. My husband had steak tips and eggs. He said the steak tips were the best he'd had for breakfast. It also came with potatoes and toast - $17.99. We definitely recommend and will come back again to visit historic Concord, Lexington and Helen's. read more

Chose this place based on other reviews and was not disappointed. Our server, Sue, was quick with the coffee and so friendly that she made our breakfast experience that much better. My main complaint about this place is that it was not clear that it's cash only. The only sign I could see was a sandwich board laying against a wall, and I didn't see it until someone else pointed it out. It would have been nice if that were made clear to me before I had to run across the street to the ATM. On top of that, the food was just okay (and overpriced for what it was), and our server wasn't very attentive. She didn't take our order until we waved her over, never refilled our water, and didn't ask if we wanted dessert or any other food before giving us our check. The festive restaurant was hopping with patrons carrying packages, celebrating the season and enjoying a home-cooked meal. Visited here today (Sat). Yes, it was busy. My experience was mediocre at best. 1) After I was seated I was waiting for a person to meet me for about 10 minutes. During that time I was asked 3 times how soon the other person was expected to show up. Really? Talk about feeling uneasy before your meal. 2) I ordered an omelette with salmon. It cost about $13. All omelettes are around this price range. The omelette had trace amounts of salmon which was disappointing and almost a joke. 3) After we had of breakfast we were badgered twice about when we expected to leave because "people are waiting." For $13 omelettes I expect more courteous service and a little more patience from the server staff. Yes, I do understand that they want to turn tables, but it was at the expense of our experience. I don't believe this is a good long term formula for a successful business and will not be returning again to this restaurant. Sorry Helen's, you missed your chance to earn me as a frequent (local) customer. I'd rather go to any one of your competitors on Main St. that offer a better experience for the money. Otherwise, I'll stay home and make myself a $1.50 omelette and save myself from being badgered by your wait staff. read more

Came here for brunch on a Sunday with a friend. It was quite crowded but not wait was required. They have a great selections for brunch and I chose Morning Quesadilla which was quite delicious. All the staffs are very friendly. The only thing I did not like is the coffee I had which was very weak for me. After being a customer for decades, it pains me to have to write this review, but enough is enough. We ordered our usual, and AGAIN the order got messed up. We constantly let it go, but yesterday was over the top. When we called the rest. to let them know our order got messed up, the elderly woman with blond hair who has been there forever tells us "well we messed up, but we did not charge you." Well, you should have made it right and said come back in so we can fix it. But, this waitress is a bit off and argued with us incessantly with no apologies. The mistakes are always small with our orders, but always consistent with something wrong. The waitress never offered to fix it or give us a CORRECT breakfast for once or even credit our card. NOTHING! So, sadly we are never going back to Helen's, the hours are bad, the staff is inconsistent and so rude. Never takes accountability for anything. Absolutely fantastic! We stopped here as we were visiting historic Concord, MA for a late lunch. My wife and I split a bowl of Clam Chowder, onion rings, and a corned beef and pastrami sandwich. The Clam Chowder was the BEST that I have had in years. The onion rings were crisp and serve with a great hot sauce. Lastly the sandwich was fantastic. Nice local small town kind of restaurant serving up fairly basic diner type food right in the middle of Concord, Mass. I arrived here with a party of four at about 1 PM on a Tuesday and there were no tables available and the place was packed. However, they are very fast and efficient about getting tables cleared and even with a few people in front of us we waited no more than five minutes for a table. Menu is pretty basic. They have a wide variety of different wraps, sandwiches, and salads to choose from. I went with a shrimp po wrap and fries. Everything was good and food comes out pretty fast. I was spending the day doing sightseeing in the Concord and Lexington area so I was looking for a basic place for food and some quick midday relaxation before getting back out for more sightseeing. The restaurant has that old town restaurant feel to it. In addition to booths and tables they have a counter you can sit at. I really liked this place because the waitresses are all very efficient and fast at what they do, food still maintains quality even though it hits the table pretty quick, and when you eat here you truly feel like your getting some local flavor. Prices aren't super cheap but not bad either. If you are looking for a sit down restaurant that has a bit of variety and can get you in and out relatively quick then this is your place. read more
