    a box of assorted doughnuts

My dad loves apple fritters, so when his 60th birthday rolled around I knew I had to go get him the best fritters the city had to offer. I had not been to Height's before, but the reviews for this place really raved about their fritters so I figured they would be a safe bet. I got to Height's just after they opened...so at 5am. The smell of DELICIOUS donuts greeted me before I even got to the door, and I felt reassured by my choice of going to Height's for my dad. I went inside and there were a few other early morning customers there, and it was a Wednesday! I can only imagine how busy they are on a weekday if they were already bumping at 5am on a Wednesday. I got a box of a dozen different goodies. I got a lot of apple fritters, some cinnamon-roll maple donut, a chocolate dipped donut, and a glazed donut. They were all warm when I got them, WOW. My car smelled heavenly on the drive home. My dad loved his apple fritter(s), and thought they were fantastic. The donuts were also delicious, we tried them all and struggled to pick our favorite. I'm not usually a donut person either, so the fact that I devoured mine really was surprising. The price for all the donuts was also really affordable, I was expecting them to be more than they were. So overall, a fantastic spot! I will definitely be coming back to get more donuts soon.

The service is wonderful. The donuts are tasty. Heights bakery is a haven to a world of wonder. Oh how I love their donuts.

Like the neighborhood bakery I had growing up, but now it's in the middle of a strip mall. Great tasty goodies, different kinds of buns & breads. Friendly staff-thank you to the young blond bakery worker! We enjoyed EVERYTHING we bought there. We really got a chuckle at the "monster" donut there!

FINALLY found delicious, calorie-free donuts!!!! Just kidding ;) but they are delicious!! Can't believe I've been down the street from this gem and haven't tried them until today. Picked up a dozen for me and my coworkers and everyone had raving reviews. From what I heard they were all great, but I tried the round raspberry jam filled donut and OMG... it was amazing!! It was huge and FULL of raspberry jam. So sweet and fresh.

Went to Heights Bakery for the first time on Valentines Day and I'm so glad I did! Already stopped by again yesterday because I just had to have more. Everyone is so nice and helpful and made amazing recommendations! Will be back more often!

Coconut donut, pecan roll, blueberry filled donut, coffee turnover, I forgot the names of the big ones

They donuts are the best anywhere in MN. Always fresh. My only complaint is the run out of bear claws very early and they are the best!!

Such cute cupcakes and cake pops hand decorated. The staff was helpful with answering questions and brought the Midwest kindness. Note that if you are vegan or lactose intolerant, this may not be the spot for you (understandably). We ordered: Pesto parm focaccia: incredible! We sliced and served it with an Italian meal and an olive oil dipping sauce and it was the highlight. Soft, fluffy, and flavorful. -bbq bacon biscuit sandwiches: very good! You can get them to heat them in their oven for you or you do it at home. Just a slight sweetness and hint of BBQ, which seems to have coated the crisp bacon. The biscuit is buttery, fluffy, and perfectly crumbly. Monster cookies: the kids loved these. They are PB oatmeal cookies with M&Ms. great taste, but I wish they were softer rather than crunchy. -Cinnamon roll: the roll itself was huge and very soft. We wished there had been more of the cinnamon/sugar filling in it. However, the frosting was to die for! Just a hint of cream cheese, great consistency (not too thin or thick), and not overwhelmingly sweet. This spot was pricey, but with food costs, it likely needs to be for them to function. Always happy to support great local spots.

The pastries are consistently soft, flavorful, and not overly sweet, which I really appreciate. Their cakes are also top-tier--light, fresh, and perfect for any occasion. The drinks are just as good. Whether it's coffee or something more specialty, everything tastes well-made and balanced. Service has always been friendly and efficient, even when it gets busy. What really stands out is the consistency--you know exactly what you're going to get every time, and it never disappoints. Great place to grab a quick bite, meet with friends, or just treat yourself. When you first walk in grab a tray to your right and some paper squares to pick up items. There are pastries both forward to the left as well as to the right. Also don't miss the cakes to the left of the check out counter. My favorite thing to grab is the fruit tart! I usually pick up a coffee to eat with my pastry. In terms of service I do say the staff is busy and does not interact as much as I like but the food makes up for it. The atmosphere inside does vary. As it is a busy coffee shop on weekends but week days and early morning weekends is a quiet place to have a coffee and read the paper.

Contrary, coming into the intimate home shop in Saint Paul hit different. As a Saint Paul girly, I absolutely adore small businesses. Marc Heu has a great location across from the co-op on Dale. Due to the pastry lineup altering so frequently, there are no signs detailing the pastry product so there is definitely interaction with staff members to ensure you are getting what you want. The staff is attentive, dressed in uniform and ready to take orders with a note pad upon arrival. Fortunately both days I have went, there were no lines but I also understand lines are common here which is something to be aware of. Inside there are small circular tables to enjoy your pastry and or coffee in. I would not recommend bringing a laptop as this is a tiny shop with an emphasis on eating, mingling and departing. Other reviews will dink stars because they will say the pricing is high however, I think, the pricing is reasonable giving the high quality of baking effort and the quality of service provided. In addition, this is not a spot to come 24/7, rather, special moments such as a birthday, holiday or celebration. With that, I feel like the price is justified. Line or not - the pasty variety is outstanding! My husband and I had a donut with a spiced icing and some other filling and every bite we kept saying yum or oh my gosh this is so good. Inspired from France, you will 100% feel transported as the shop itself resembles France from the interior and obviously the baking follows suit. The display case is the center of attention when you walk in. I highly recommend stopping when in Saint Paul or purchasing at a coffee shop should you happen to see the line of Marc Heu. There are a few other stores in the area, otherwise, Grand Avenue is right up the road should you want to make a day of supporting local. Saint Paul is so lucky to have a slice of France in our city. Thank you!
