I love the simplicity of their donuts! They aren't pretentious or anything, but they are delicious and so superior to the big chains. An added bonus is the styles that I've never had other places. It's truly a hometown original that I enjoy making the drive to get when donuts are called for. read more

Popped into Blue Egg Bakery this afternoon for a pre-road trip breakfast. Blue Egg was one of the only places near me that was both open and not a chain donut place. A lady came to help us pretty promptly and answered most of our questions. We ended up grabbing four donuts for the two of us (no judgement) which included a chocolate long john with coconut shavings, two chocolate donuts with sprinkles, and a chocolate donut with vanilla cream filling. They were $5 total. Score. The donuts looked awesome and they tasted pretty good too. I immediately wanted to take a picture for my review and that's when I realized there were no places to sit or set anything down. I think I would like this place a lot more if the interior was refreshed a bit and they added a little bar/table in front of the window. They're in such a beautiful location and could totally be taking advantage of it. If you're just trying to run and grab some tasty donuts this is the place. Unfortunately for me, I think it will end up being a little forgettable in every other area. read more

Blue Egg Bakery is a nice little bakery in the old part of Elk River, on Main Street, close to the river. We happened across Blue Egg while we were exploring local shops. What a nice surprise! All 3 of us grabbed some goodies and coffee. I was particularly intrigued by the peanut butter & jelly donuts - cool! This is a typical, iconic, small town bakery. If you're in the area, you have to stop in and buy something. Support a local business. We stopped in after lunch and the pastries were pretty picked over. Next time we'll try to come earlier. Had my rotation in Elk River and decided to visit this place, per the recommendation of several town locals. It did not disappoint! It's a small little bakery near a beautiful part of town, offering a wide array of pastries -- donuts, donut holes, cream puffs, cupcakes, cakes, etc. They're most famously known for their lady fingers which is a puff pastry filled with whip cream or cream cheese filling (two different types), covered in powdered sugar, and only rings up to $1 each for a decent size. I've tried a few of their other donuts as well, all delicious and unique in flavor! My coworkers loved them all! Best thing about this place is it is so, so affordable. I ordered 7 lady fingers and 6 donuts, ringing up to only $12! ...what a deal! Definitely worth checking out. read more

The donuts have been great every time we go in. We've tried a few of the other things they offer like the lady fingers, and the Oreo bars and those have been great also. The only thing we didn't like is the lemon bars, the crust was way to thick and there wasn't very much lemon filling on it. It was kinda like eating a cookie with a smear of lemon on top. I used to love this bakery. However the last 4 times the selection has been less than stellar, entire shelves with nothing on them. On Tuesday (the day I'm writing this review). The hours of operation are 5am-6pm. So at 10:30 in the morning it is not unreasonable to expect they have more than frosted cake doughnuts and white frosted long Johns. When I said to the lady "wow looks like I should have gotten here earlier" her response was "yep!" How about instead of "yep" you ask what I'm looking for? How about instead of "yep" you make an effort to retain the customer in front of you. I left without buying anything and I'm writing this review from the Cub parking lot. Here's the good: LOVE their cinnamon crunch cake donuts and cream cheese lady fingers. They are the real deal, super cute, local neighborhood bakery. New owners are offering expanded baked good options including slices of layered cake, cupcakes, different varieties of donuts, danishes and cookies. Here's the could be better: consistency of product - we've tried new things and liked them never to find them again; seating area could have more stools, counters and floors could be cleaned more frequently; new staff isn't as friendly as previous, are uninformed, and should use common sense when packaging product. Here's the bad: they commonly run out of popular items before 9 am and don't restock even though they are open until 6 pm then they make excuses if you mention it; the brewed coffee (the only coffee option) is weak and flavorless and sits in a glass carafe on a burner; they obviously use a mix of homemade and convenience items like frostings from a tub-yuck!,and parking can be an issue sometimes. Still, I LOVE this bakery and go here every Thursday for the Red Velvet donuts. read more

I love your doughnuts so much! The first time I had them was at a work meeting and everyone was amazed at how delicious they were. Once I realized you have them delivered to the Marathon gas station in Princeton every morning I have been hooked. ATLEAST once a week I stop to get one and they are always fresh but they go fast (understandably!) usually if I stop by after 11 they are already gone. Ordered a birthday cake for our two year old a week ago. From the moment we walked in, we only discussed a Sesame Street cake, even showing the cake decorators Sesame Street pictures. We specifically told them on multiple occasions that our son loves Elmo and Cookie Monster and as long as they were somewhere on the cake, we would be happy. Picked the cake up today and it had his name and polka dots and nothing more. 30 bucks for a cake to be made only to have our one request completely ignored. Customer service was absolutely awful as she said "well that's what the decorator put on the order form so...." Not apologetic at all. I can assure you potential customers out there that we never once said yes please give us a polka dot cake for our Sesame Street loving son's birthday. Please do not use this business as these are terrible practices and should not be encouraged! read more

I went to this Bakery when it first opened, the staff was friendly and they had a wide variety of cupcakes and donuts that were excellent. Recently, however, my visit was not great. There were no customers at the time and yet I had to ask for help. The woman working just stood there until I asked, generally they should welcome the customer upon entering especially if they are not helping others. I felt as though i was inconveniencing her. The cupcakes I did purchase were less than stellar. I have gotten better products from the Target down the road. Even though I understand they will be expanding, I won't be visiting again based on the poor customer service and unreliable product. read more

The longer this place is here the worse it gets. When they first took over Dons Bakery I would have given them 4. Big shoes for them to fill. They were really good really supported them. Over time this place has gotten worse and worse. The lady fingers didn't have any filling in them. They were all different shapes and sizes, there was no standard. Some smushed and some not. The cream cheese stick has no filling. Barely any chocolate drizzle on top. The fillings seemed like they were trying to get buy with as little as they could and were very sloppy when they were put in extremely uneven. It almost seemed like they were running out of filling and were trying to get buy without making another batch. I also got a cinnamon tube which is basically a tube of bread. There was barely any cinnamon in it at all. On top of which they used to have it already sliced for you and I guess now they don't. I was extremely disappointed. I just really felt like they were trying to do the bare minimum on everything. read more
