Also for the community they have been so generous and giving helping with different fundraising and contributing bread to dinners and bake sales for years now. We stumbled upon this gem due to the donut place around the corner being closed for a week. We are so happy we did!! No, they don't have donuts, but better than donuts!! We almost judged and didn't step down the stairs to this bakery, but you need to! Ambiance: A basic bakery inside... simple and clean. The people working (possibly the owners) were so friendly and passionate. They have a wide variety of breads and sweets available daily. It was a Saturday, so we got the Garlic Cheddar sourdough sliced. I was informed they are at the Plymouth farmers market on Wednesdays and I am the most excited about those flavors, so I will be there! We also got a cinnamon roll (I am obsessed with theirs because there is more cinnamon to bread ratio, many others are so dry... NOT theirs!). The chocolate muffin was super moist and I wanna try the others! We couldn't pass up the homemade focaccia... I've never had more spongy and fresh before! Also, we got some lemon blueberry fritter bread for another day. Overall, we will be back here and anytime we go up north. Thanks for such a great energy and product! read more

From the moment I opened the door and began my descent to the lower level bakery, the overwhelming fragrance of freshly baked bread wafted upward to greet me. Then I could see the counter with loaves upon loaves of breads in many flavors. The cinnamon rolls were large, frosted, sweet, and filled with cinnamon flavor all for an unbelievably low price. The sourdough bread was moist with a crust requiring a slight pull - perfect plain but out of this world when accompanied by a slice of cold butter. But don't believe me. I've lived in Elk River for about 2 years and started going to Diamond City Bread this past summer. Let me tell you - they know what they're doing! I brought home the French Peasant this afternoon and by 4:30pm it's nearly gone. Great selection, prices and very friendly staff! I was able to get a frozen Blueberry Fritter Bread and I'm patiently waiting for it to defrost. By 12:30pm all pasteries were sold out, so I recommend going early. This is a must-try if you're in the Elk River area! read more

Immediately off Hwy 10 in a downstairs basement this bakery has an excellent selection of bread, a smattering of muffins, scones, and croissants. I had the ham and cheese croissant and tried the French peasant bread. Both had excellent flavor and the bread a delectable crumb. They serve coffee, a few sodas and such, but this is not their strong suit - it's really just ancillary to the bread. Friendly counter staff in a bare bones atmosphere. Bought a loaf of this bread that was on display at Morleys seafood in Motley last week when I was in the area. It was incredible! When I looked at the label and saw that it was an elk River I realized I could go there myself and purchase more bread. It's only 20 minutes from me and worth every minute to get there. Take the walk downstairs--trust me, it's worth it! I moved to Elk River this past year and this is by far, the "gem" of the city. Delicious, fresh-baked breads. Favorite: Cranberry Pecan! Since I was already having lunch at Pompeii Pizza I figured I'd finally check this place out. It's conveniently located below the pizza joint. I bought a loaf of Parmesan pepper bread which was excellent for sandwiches, also picked up a loaf of chocolate cherry bread which was really good either plain or toasted. Not much of a variety to be had here, but the few items that I bought were excellent. They had some rather large oatmeal chocolate chip cookies on the counter that I couldn't resist and I'm glad I didn't, because those were about the best I've ever had. I wouldn't go out of my way to come here (unless I had a crazy craving for oatmeal cookies) but if you're in the area, it's definitely worth the stop. read more

We've been hearing about this place for a while and finally managed to stop in and check it out. Fresh baked loaves are $5. The loaves vary daily (website lists the types) and they seem to run out early. The bread is everything you could hope for from a bakery. The space is in the basement (not handicapped accessible) and they will make you a sandwhich on site. read more

We stopped on the way to St. Cloud for a graduation celebration to pick up some cards at the Hallmark store...and next door, low and behold (even though it was down a steep flight of stairs) was this incredible bread bakery! Outstanding! I kept wanting to buy things that were labeled to go to different co-ops, so if I had bought all I wanted we would have been broke indeed. We walked out with an amazing loaf of tomato-garlic-basil bread, some baguettes and the best dang scone I have ever eaten (just shoot me if I settle for a Starbucks scone ever again!). Sadly lacking common sense and hygiene. We had stopped by for a much anticipated first visit and left by choice without anything. There was a young man working the counter helping another couple when we walked in. We watched him count the money and bag their order. He then moved on to us, we ordered a sourdough loaf and ask for it to be sliced. He grabbed the bread with bare hands (after handling money) and put the bread on the slicer. I ask if he thought he should be handling money and the bread without gloves or washing his hands. His reply was "would you like me to wash my hands"..ummm yes. He walked by 2 boxes of gloves on the way to the sink. I decided to just leave without the bread. If they do this out in the open can you imagine what the customers don't see. read more

It's getting four stars only because the product used to be better under the original owner, their sandwiches are overpriced (they aren't technically a "sandwich shop" so what do I expect?) and often when I go, even in early afternoon, they are sold out of most things that I would want. That having been said, for our small town, this is quite a gem and worth visiting for any out of towner. The original owner of Diamond City is opening a pizza place just above it. Love, love and love. Every loaf of bread I've ever gotten here has been delicious and wonderful. Had a sun dried tomato loaf a couple weeks ago, and just tried the french peasant and cheddar jalapeno. I think I'm going to have to swear off grocery store bread for the rest of my life. During this time of covid, I wanted to support a local business. I was shocked by what I saw when I went into the place. Right behind the register where you place your order there are racks of baked bread. The bread is not covered or bagged or protected from coughs, sneezes or flies in any matter what so ever. That might be ok in normal times but in the time of a contagious pandemic this is not acceptable. The two employees working at the counter, and depending on what they are doing they are only 6 inches to 3 feet from the uncovered bread, were not wearing masks as recommended by health officials. Any droplets coming from their mouths are landing directly onto your bread. And they are taking orders only 2 feet from the customers, no mask! This tells me that the owner is either careless or cares more about some mistaken impression than they do about the health of their customers and employees. I will not shop here in the future. read more

I have always stopped on my way to Wisconisn to visit my Dad, I pick up the "bread of the day" and go on my way, yes eating a slice or two, on my route. Last week i stopped in to pick up a loaf and as I was waiting in line, I looked over at a table, and on the table were empty egg boxes from Sparboe Egg Farms in Iowa. Since there were people ahead of me, I didn't have the stomach to wait in line and ask for sure if they used Sparboe Eggs. I am presuming they do, and if that is in fact the truth, I will no longer stop for a loaf of bread. Shame on you! Why not buy fresh eggs from local farmers who treat their chickens with respect. IF McDonalds can discontinue buying from Sparboe, so can you. read more

It's not every day that I eat a sandwich and think to myself that the bread was the best part of the meal rather than the contents between them. Don't get me wrong, the entire sandwich was delicious...but the fresh homemade bread definitely stood out to me. A couple of friends and I were up in Elk River and needed to grab a quick bite to eat but didn't want to head our usual standby of Jimmy John's. After much debate about whether we had the time to eat at Pompeii Pizza (which also looked awesome) we decided to order a few sandwiches from Diamond City Bread. The owner of DCB explained the ordering process and let us sample a few of their artisan breads. It wasn't until after we had left and I ate my sandwich that I realized just how amazing fresh bread can be taste.
