I arrived at Han's by 9 AM and was disappointed to see a very limited number of donuts to choose from. We saw large open boxes of donuts behind the counter. Very disappointed. We bought 4 items and it cost $16.00. We won't be returning to Han's Bakery. read more

We will not return. This place is unkept, broken windows and all around dirty. they keep donuts on the back table in large boxes they were open and the donuts were tossed in and sideways. At one time I enjoyed coming here and buying their fry cakes, what most people would call their "cake donuts." They are the plain ones with no frosting or sugar. Last week I bought FOUR fry cakes at a cost of $2.00 apiece! I had no idea they would cost that much. $8.26 was the total charge for the four. How preposterous for four plain donuts. Never again. On top of that, the quality was substandard. They lacked the density of the same type donut I've bought at KwikTrip or our local Festival. I'm sorry to say I will not be returning to Hans. It is sad to me that they have gone in the direction of making their products this way and charging so much at the same time. What a huge disappointment. I've been coming here since I was in elementary school when Hans was doing the baking. I've seen it run down and I've seen it revived and after my trip today, I've seen it run down again. None of the longtime favorites. No Beehives. No Beestings. No Texas Donuts. No Donut Holes. For years we've had the tradition of getting Hans Bakery donuts on the first day of school (we're homeschoolers and it's a tradition the kids look forward to every fall.) Yesterday we piled in the car and headed to Hans, but the doors were locked and the lights off. Sign says "Open 7-2 daily" yet they were closed at 8am. We tried again this morning and still closed. I don't know if they're permanently closed, but it's frustrating to not be able to get through to anyone or even have a sign on the door explaining why they're closed. I called the number but it's for 3 different bakeries and no one knew why Han's was closed. read more

Used to love this place growing up. It was dingy back then, but the donuts were always on point. It's changed hands a couple times over the years and got a makeover. I moved away from the state about 8 years ago and would always make it a point to stop in and have a donut here when I was visiting. I was recently here and everything fell flat. That will be the last time I come to this establishment. I couldn't understand why it wasn't what it was until I came here and saw all the negative reviews. Saw a post about Han's Bakery from a Facebook friend and it was featured in the Only In Your State article. So we made the trek to Anoka for a Sunday drive to check out the bakery. We came around 1pm and most of everything was gone. There was one famous beehive donut left so of course we had to get it. We also picked out two frosted sprinkled donuts, a chocolate old fashioned and a cherry cream cheese danish roll plus a sliced of the Princess Torte. I wanted to see how it compares with Wuollet's princess torte. We couldn't wait to try out the donuts and so we parked at a nearby park ave devoured our treats! The donuts were soft and moist with no fried grease oil smell or after taste! It was delicious. Since we ate all the single treats, we didn't have room for the beehive and so it went in the fridge for the next day. Tried the beehive the next day and the dough was hard and crispy. Not soft. I wish I had opened it on the day of to try it fresh. The almond toppings were tasty. The bavarian cream was a little too much and too sweet for me. I think the next time, we will have to go super early to try the Texas donut and other variations of the smaller beehive. It's worth the experience. A little pricey. read more

I love this place. Tucked back in classic Anoka Hans is a local legend. Home made cinnamon rolls,donuts and pastries you simply cannot go wrong here. You can get their dozen specialties which is a real treat. I would encourage everyone to check this classic place out! read more

They are baking on-site again and everything tastes fresh! After years of stale product that was baked elsewhere, Hans is doing their own baking again. The selection was smaller, but everything tasted much better. The cake donuts were very good, so were the apple fritters. Good coffee and nice atmosphere. If you have been staying away, it might be time to give them another try. read more

These are some yummy donuts. Old school raised and frosted that satisfied the whole family. The Texas doughnut is as big as your head and would make a great birthday cake substitute for anyone that prefers doughnuts! The behind the counter staff were friendly and efficient. Used to live in Anoka when Hans was special their beehive was a holiday tradition and most special occasions. I stopped there a couple weeks ago and it has totally changed the beehive used to be the size of dinner plate now the size of side cake plate. It was hard and crusty like it was days old. Terrible customer service. I called before arriving to ask about same day pick up, which their website says they do. On the phone they said they can't. I asked what doughnuts they still had, they named many. Got there 20 mins later and they decided to close 15 mins early, why wouldn't you tell me when I called and said I was coming, that you are closing early or low on doughnuts, which you won't sell over phone or online. I would say ninety percent of my reviews are after one visit. Consider this my first impression review, subject to a review update. Drove past about 8:30 on Thursday morning and the line looked way too long. TCOB nearby and came back at 9:30. Line was still almost out the door. Decided to suck it up and get in the back of the line. First thing I noticed was all the school aged children in the place. Don't kids have to go to school anymore? Took me about fifteen minutes in line until I got my order in. Went with one glazed and one bacon maple longjohn. The glazed was pretty standard - I've had similar from gas stations. The bacon maple I was really looking forward to. It was just OK. No filling and less than moist. Maybe if I got some different items this would get a higher rating from me. Based on today's visit, three it is. I would not go out of my way to go back, but I might go back when in the area if the line is not too long. #underwhelmed read more

So. Good. This place is amazing, so it's no surprise that it gets CROWDED early when the donuts are nice and fresh. If you come anytime after like 9am, your options will be fairly limited even with as many donuts as they churn out. Not a fan of the ginormous donuts they serve because they can get dry pretty fast, but my family of 3 can easily finish a dozen of their regular donuts when they're fresh. They're the perfect combo of light and fluffy with a good bite to them. We have yet to try their sweets like cupcakes and birthday cakes, but they do lots of cute designs, so I'm sure we couldn't go wrong getting a cake here when it's time for a special occasion in my house! read more

I agree with Kara B. I don't like to downtrod a place that's been quite the fixture and part of Anoka's historic stature. However, but for the jumbo donuts the kid drooled over (and in his mind there is no bad donut), I found the cinnamon twist to be boring. Next day we had donut holes (the worst I've had) and I had my saved pecan caramel roll. I'm sure the roll is better warmed up but still a bakery item should be able to stand up to being a day old and still be of a pretty delectable nature. Nope. Just as I suspected. It was (not as dense and dry as the donut hole) dry and boring. I'm bummed to be writing this place off. The competition is out there and even in the Cities there's lots better. By the way best pecan caramel roll I've ever had is from Reeds Market in Cross Lake. read more

Everyone talked this place up and I wanted to love it. It's such a nostalgic little donut shop and it has a following, but even the regulars have noticed the decline in quality. My employees love my tradition of buying them donuts on Thursday's and this place has been hit or Miss. one week we will get decent donuts and the next they are over fried and taste like day old donuts. I know they have changed ownership in the last couple of years. We loved the original ownership and the ones who reopened Hans'. This latest ownership is bad. The variety has been cut drastically. The size and freshness has taken a hit. We recently preorders donuts to be picked up. When I got home the donuts we received were not what we ordered. When I called to say ask about the error the person working said it was their substitution, they don't even make what is listed on their own website in PICTURES. Sadly, can't recommend Hans anymore- cub has better variety, is fresher and I don't think these owners will last long. read more

Bakeries like this are one of a kind. I can tell that baking is something the staff here put their heart into. The bakery is small yet perfect. Old yet classic. Quaint yet charming. I came in this past weekend to pick up an order that I had made over the phone. I was so happy with their service, so of course I have to Yelp about it! When I called Han's to place my customized order, the girl over the phone was very courteous. She answered all of my questions, gave me different options in terms of size, color, etc. and gave me her recommendation. They allow you to pay with a credit card over the phone or pay in cash/card when you get to the bakery. I opted for paying in cash in person. I arrived at my designated pick up time and they had my customized birthday Texas donut ready to go. I indicated a personal message for them to put on the donut when I spoke with them over the phone, and they just put it on when I got there. They already had a plain chocolate Texas donut set aside for me, so I didn't have to worry about them running out earlier in the day. It was placed into a nice little white box and only costed $3.50. Han's is my boyfriend's favorite bakery, so I knew that getting him a gigantic donut would be creative for his birthday. It was much better than buying a cake because that's just overdone. The Texas Donut had just what I needed for a great price. Either the owner or manager of Han's spoke with me while I waited for the donut to be decorated. She was so nice and told me to wish my boyfriend Happy Birthday from Han's. She later went on to post the picture I had taken of my boyfriend with the donut onto their Facebook page. How sweet is that? Needless to say, he loved his birthday treat. He couldn't even finish it in one sitting! He said it tasted really good and managed to finish it by the end of the night. read more
