Bakeries like this are one of a kind. I can tell that baking is something the staff here put their heart into. The bakery is small yet perfect. Old yet classic. Quaint yet charming. I came in this past weekend to pick up an order that I had made over the phone. I was so happy with their service, so of course I have to Yelp about it! When I called Han's to place my customized order, the girl over the phone was very courteous. She answered all of my questions, gave me different options in terms of size, color, etc. and gave me her recommendation. They allow you to pay with a credit card over the phone or pay in cash/card when you get to the bakery. I opted for paying in cash in person. I arrived at my designated pick up time and they had my customized birthday Texas donut ready to go. I indicated a personal message for them to put on the donut when I spoke with them over the phone, and they just put it on when I got there. They already had a plain chocolate Texas donut set aside for me, so I didn't have to worry about them running out earlier in the day. It was placed into a nice little white box and only costed $3.50. Han's is my boyfriend's favorite bakery, so I knew that getting him a gigantic donut would be creative for his birthday. It was much better than buying a cake because that's just overdone. The Texas Donut had just what I needed for a great price. Either the owner or manager of Han's spoke with me while I waited for the donut to be decorated. She was so nice and told me to wish my boyfriend Happy Birthday from Han's. She later went on to post the picture I had taken of my boyfriend with the donut onto their Facebook page. How sweet is that? Needless to say, he loved his birthday treat. He couldn't even finish it in one sitting! He said it tasted really good and managed to finish it by the end of the night. read more

The last time I had a donut from Han's bakery was when I was in 8th grade. My math teacher would separate the class into two teams and gave the highest averaging team Texas donuts after each test! Literally the best thing ever for a 14 year old, a donut 8 inches in diameter. The place closed down for some years and an old employee picked up ownership and reopened it. Have stopped in several times since the opening. The remodel sure looks better than the dusty, age-beaten interior and exterior from my days of eating here with the German club at AHS. I was here at about noon all three times, and the lines have been very manageable - maybe 15 people in line at any time, with 3-4 people behind the counter. The service is a bit disorganized - you have to wait until someone is free behind the counter and asks you what you would like - they then proceed to get your items, place them in a bag/box, take you down to the register, and tell the cashier what your order contains. That means that essentially two people are checking you out - very inefficient and time consuming. I always take my items to-go - the tables and chairs do not look inviting at all. They are all kind of packed into the half of the building, cafeteria-style. However, the donuts were delicious. We have gotten: The bee sting - not a honey person, but these were delectable. The cream was very light and fluffy, while the nuts added a perfect crunch. Maple donut, maple long john with nuts - the maple glaze is delicious and clearly freshly made, the dough has a nice bite to it and is moist. The TEXAS DONUT - got this for mom's husband, but all three of us had some and there was still about a third left over. These are giant. Raspberry-filled - pretty standard, sweet filling, sweet glaze. Apple fritter - SO GOOD. The apples are soft but crunchy at the same time, somehow, and it's just a perfect marriage of dough and fruit. I'm sure nostalgia is drawing many customers here, but the baked goods are great as well! The normal donuts are fresher and better than at Cub, and the specialty items are wonderful. A bit pricy, but I will be back whenever another donut craving hits, and to try out any new additions to their menu! read more

What a gem in Anoka! I was surprised to find such a spacious, cute bakery with a huge selection of donuts and baked items, as well as food in this part of the 'burbs. The chocolate donut was decadent and the raspberry-filled was out of this world. A huge plus for me is that they also have gluten-free muffins, donuts, and cookies from Sift Bakery. I had the banana chocolate chip muffin and it was such a moist and perfect little thing. I don't know if it's much healthier than a real muffin, but at least I couldn't tell the difference! You really have to time it just right if you want to get the best pick. Last time we were there around 11:30 on a Sunday, a ton of the flavors were already sold out. Service is usually friendly although the one time we felt rushed to take our pick. That won't deter us from coming back to try everything they have! read more

Hans' Bakery is a great local gem located in Anoka. The nostalgic phase has passed allowing most people to actually get in the door and purchase their favorite pastry. I went in on a Sunday Morning at 10am and had no issues getting in the door and ordering. Inside The floor plan is open with a variety of seating options. The seating is divided by a large table (image provided) that includes coffee and a variety of prepackaged breads. The dark wood flooring is nice and the bakery is very clean inside. Order The ordering process feels like I'm inside of a Subway or Potbelly. You'll stand in a roped off line until the next person is available to help take your order. Going down the line you have the opportunity to order some classic favorites like old fashioned and frosted cake donuts. Some of the unique options include the BeeHive, BeeSting & Texas Donuts. Price The bakery is sits in between premium and value pricing. The cost is between $1 - $3 per donut depending on the type. Overall it's great to see Hans' back open. It's great to see the community and former loyalists line up for a taste from their younger years. One last thing...Hans' just broke ground on an outdoor patio. Although Winter is coming, this patio will serve great and provide a nice ambiance while enjoying a delicious BeeSting. read more

I know a few donut fanatics that'll eat any dough fried in oil. I'm not really one of them. I think that as a chubby dude already, a little discretion is in order. Han's in Anoka is the best straight up donut I've had. They are simple bring to the office or take a morning family trip kind of donuts. Not a patisserie I guess is what I'm saying. The execution is what really sets it apart. The apple fritter, the old fashioned and the custard filled are basically perfection. The place is clean and the staff is patient and friendly. Not a huge parking lot but I've never had a problem finding a spot. Most donuts will cost you in $2. Unless you go with the Texas. At 3.25 it's the size of your face. read more

My favorite donuts in Minnesota. It's not a super trendy ambience like most donut shops popping up downtown, instead the appeal is the product itself. The donuts have the perfect sugar to dough ratio. They also have more than just donuts, they also have sandwiches, cupcakes and their famous bee-stings. The bee sting is basically a cream puff cut in half but much better and with almond slices and powdered sugar over the top. If you can I would try to avoid stopping by around 3:30 during the school year because they pull quite the crowd from the adjacent middle school. Hans' is worth a stop every time you're in Anoka. Everything they make is incredible. So many pastries are WAY too sweet. I don't like my teeth to ache when eating a donut. Hans' stuff is sweet but it's not too much. It's just perfect. The 3 words you most need to know are Maple Bacon Long John. Pillowy, doughy Long John with maple frosting covered in TONS of bacon pieces. It's a symphony of salty, savory, and sweet. Their other signature item is a Beehive and smaller Beesting. Think a cake donut sliced in half horizontally and filled with honey, flavored buttercream. They add a dusting of powdered sugar and almonds. read more

When Hans's first reopened the service was terrible, lots of people behind the counter but just not much getting done. They were slow and seemed more focused on what was going on behind the counter rather than people at the counter. The good thing was that the counter and donut cases were ALWAYS full - really good selection. They have now been reopened more than a year. Frankly service hasn't improved that much. Far fewer people working, but still very focused behind the counter rather than the customers. The additional problem is that this is the third time I have been here in the past 4 months and I've seen the same thing each time - it's 7:24 AM, they opened 24 minutes ago and the cases are EMPTY! How do you open a donut shop/Bakery on a Saturday morning and have empty cases when you open?? They really need to focus on what's important if they want to survive long term - good customer service (which they've not had yet) and having what customers want when hey want it. Dunkin Donuts is coming to the area, get it together before DD does it for you. One last thing, to be totally fair, I think the donuts are good, better than average, that's the only reason I have them 2 stars instead of 1 - cupcakes and cookies are good too, when they have any! read more

Hans' has been our go to for the last three years since we've moved here for birthday baked goods. We have always had a great experience with their cupcakes and birthday cakes. We are excited for this year's round of treats but were a little bummed that part of our order that we placed a month ago was lost when the time came for pick up. Customer service was great and helped us with a refund on the lost portion of our order. New owners changed too many items and recipes. No more Old Fashion's. Donut Holes and Apple Fritters are smaller. Bee stings are now dry with little cream. Filling has diminished in Bismarks. Prices have risen. Staff is less friendly - most likely because they no longer like working there and listening to all the complaints. The owners also own Woullet's and are bringing in products from other stores versus making them fresh in the cute little Anoka bakery. They are using machines (instead of employees) to mass produce cake donuts. It is such a huge disappointment to see this local favorite change for the worse. read more

Employees were pleasant, but disappointing that they were not following Covid-19 mask protocol. Although the masks were on the face, their noses were not covered. Hans' is a neat bakery, everything here is better than the norm and baked fresh daily. This is one of those old bakery's that hasn't changed a bit for as long as I can remember, you almost feel like your taken back in time as soon as you enter the door. A must try is their famous "beehive" or one of their delicious light doughnuts. They also have a nice selection of freshly baked breads including Black Forest and a really killer Bavarian farmers bread plus much more. There is plenty of seating here so don't be in a rush if you swing in, I'd recommend taking your time and dining in. The staff here is extremely friendly and knowledgeable about their products. This place has been here for years and for good reason. It's located right next to the Anoka middle school and can get extra busy right after school, I'd say this is about as good as it gets and a must try if you're in the Anoka area! read more

Growing up, we used to stop at Hans' after church & my sister and I would split a Texas donut. Now that I'm an adult, I get my own damn Texas donut. Hans' also has tons of other stuff besides my gluttonous nostalgia, some stand outs are the apple fritter, the cupcakes, and the long johns. The staff is great, usually local kids. My only complaint is that they're a little pricey. I ended up getting the Bee Sting, since that's what they are kind of known for, so I figured it must be good. Actually it was fine, nothing special, but good. Their service during covid is very hit or miss. If you plan on stopping by to get donuts, pray that the woman with dreadlocks isn't working, she might completely ignore your presence in the parking lot and take her time attending to other customers in any order she wants. There wasn't room in the 2 car length line of make shift drive through that they had going on, so I parked in a parking space right next to the woman taking orders. She completely ignored me and took orders from other people that showed up much later than me, and chose not to walk 5 feet to meet me at my car. I tried to explain to her how long I had been waiting (as if she didn't know) and she told me to get in line. Maybe she was expecting me to park overflow style in the busy street?
