Cinnamon roll donut with chica Lee frosting topped with crushed peanuts.

Donuts/cinnamon rolls/apple fritters are so yummy! Cute little bakery located in small town of Lindstrom. This location is open as of 4/24/23 but is up for sale by owner. Whomever takes over this location will hopefully keep the quality of the bakery items the same.

Cash only please - The image shows a black letter board mounted on a wooden wall, listing menu items such as glazed fried rolls, fried apple snail, and apple bread, with business hours from Monday to Saturday at 5:30 AM. Below, a handwritten sign on white paper indicates that credit and debit cards are not accepted, apologizing for the inconvenience.

When I read that Food and Wine had rated the donuts at Lindstrom Bakery the best in MN, I had to add that to my list of places to try. We were heading up north to visit some friends which provided the perfect opportunity to grab some breakfast on the way. The bakery is easy to find and is right on the main street in town. We arrived just before 8:00am and there was already a line out the door with more people arriving. We ordered 2 glazed and 2 cinnamon sugar of their Scandinavian donuts. You might say what is a Scandinavian donut? Besides being made by a nice Scandinavian lady, they are in my opinion essentially a smaller version of an old fashioned donut. They are slightly crispy on the outside and cake like on the inside. Well in my opinion Food and Wine had too much wine and not enough donuts. This is a good donut. Hard to not like a donut. Just ask Homer Simpson. I just didn't love this donut. I have said that the apple fritter is my favorite donut. The old fashioned is my 2nd favorite donut due to the combination of textures. These donuts were a little smaller, I liked the cinnamon better than the glazed because of that slightly crunchy exterior. They do also have other donuts, breads and cookies available. Next time I'm in the area I'd be interested in trying some more items and probably some more donuts too.

Hidden Nordic Gem here! In a world where you buy cookies & pastries in supermarkets prepackaged by the dozens, this IS your place to come for the old fashioned pick each of your choices-as many as you want. My friendly wait staff answered my questions and bagged up ALL our treats, 3 bags for under $10. Whoa-you mean fun/different pastries for NOT $5 a piece? Yes, please. I couldn't pick out which flavor of biscotti to buy, so I got one of each (less than a dollar apiece). That was a mistake-I should have gotten at least TWO of EACH!

Glazed old fashioned Swedish donuts & Swedish almond cookie

I'm from out of state and was looking for a nice Swedish bakery and stumbled upon Lindstrom bakery. I came at the end of the day so there weren't too many options but I ordered a few Swedish old fashioned donuts and a Swedish almond cookie. The GLAZED Swedish old fashioned donuts are THE BEST, especially when dipped in coffee!! I noticed some Limpa bread options and there seemed to be a variety of baked goods offered earlier in the day. The prices are also relatively cheap and you can get many donuts for a good price!!! The staff wore masks but the store is a little small so I would recommend not going in there with too many people due to COVID. When I was leaving the store a lot of people were eating outside to come in, so it must be very popular for the locals.

Two rosettes. They were tall, delicate, and lightly dusted with powdered sugar. Yum!!

There aren't many bakeries in northern Washington County and Southern Chisago County. So, we enjoy going to the Lindstrom Bakery to get fresh-baked items. There is a nice selection of pastries, cookies, and breads. It is easy to purchase treats for the entire family for under $5. It's a bit smaller than the bakery I remember visiting when I was a child living in north Minneapolis, but it has that typical bakery smell the minute you walk in the door. It brings back good memories of a simpler and happier time. There are health food items, crafts, pop, and other miscellaneous items available throughout the store. There is a little eating area with tables and chairs if you want to eat your breakfast or treat there and not in the car. For this visit, my daughter ordered a filled doughnut which she enjoyed. We brought back home rosettes which were delicate and lightly dusted with powdered sugar. I have never been able to make these successfully, so it's a real treat when I find them. We will definitely be going to Lindstrom Bakery in the future.

If you are looking for a decorated cake skip this place and go to Brinks. For $25 I got a white cake with thin layer of almond paste when I order a marble cake with chocolate frosting. A box cake/frosting would have been better than this.

Stopped by on a drive up north. There place is bigger than I thought and on a late afternoon the cases were full with cookies and donuts. It's cash only, but everything was cheap and you could buy a little something for everyone in the car for less than $10. I tried a few cookies. They were crumbly and dry (dont eat these in the car). The Scandinavian donuts were alright, and the regular donuts were a bit dry as well. The guy behind the counter seemed absolutely annoyed that he had to work. Overall not a good experience and I probably wouldn't stop back. If you do end up going I would recommend the Scandinavian donuts. Almost like a donut hole with crispy outside.

Small bakery and nothing really European about it. Cookies were overly cooked and didn't even taste good.

Such cute cupcakes and cake pops hand decorated. The staff was helpful with answering questions and brought the Midwest kindness. Note that if you are vegan or lactose intolerant, this may not be the spot for you (understandably). We ordered: Pesto parm focaccia: incredible! We sliced and served it with an Italian meal and an olive oil dipping sauce and it was the highlight. Soft, fluffy, and flavorful. -bbq bacon biscuit sandwiches: very good! You can get them to heat them in their oven for you or you do it at home. Just a slight sweetness and hint of BBQ, which seems to have coated the crisp bacon. The biscuit is buttery, fluffy, and perfectly crumbly. Monster cookies: the kids loved these. They are PB oatmeal cookies with M&Ms. great taste, but I wish they were softer rather than crunchy. -Cinnamon roll: the roll itself was huge and very soft. We wished there had been more of the cinnamon/sugar filling in it. However, the frosting was to die for! Just a hint of cream cheese, great consistency (not too thin or thick), and not overwhelmingly sweet. This spot was pricey, but with food costs, it likely needs to be for them to function. Always happy to support great local spots.
