Sweet Beet is a great local bakery - 4 stars! I stopped in just before closing so everything was sparse and picked over. But I still found plenty of varieties to sample and to get an idea of what Sweet Beet whips up in the back kitchen. I picked 6 completely different pastries, everything from an apple strudel to a giant oatmeal cookie cream sandwich. They were very good, wonderful flavors. The seasonable Halloween stuff was in a separate case. I really got a kick out of these bright, festive baked goods. There was one all-star masterpiece that really stood out. They have something called the "Carnivorous Chocolate Cherry Pie" (see photo). Wow - this thing is a work of art! They told me it takes over 5 hours to craft one of these scary monsters - very cool! There was only one pastry that I didn't love, the gluten free chocolate raspberry cake (or bar). It was kinda dry and crumbly...because gluten is the sticky glue that holds breads and pastries together. It's a fact that's hard to get around as a baker. Fortunately, I don't have a problem with gluten. But if you have Celiac Disease, I guess you eat what's safe in order to get your pastry fix...even if it's a little crumbly. My only gripe - and it's a minor one - is they don't offer any coffee. The girl behind the counter told me the Espresso machine was broken and probably wasn't going to be replaced. But I think they should offer some basic drip coffee and that would suffice & make most people happy (like me). It's hard to imagine any bakery without hot coffee on hand. They have a new location in Hudson too. Thumbs up! - Maxx

My kids and I enjoy coming here occasionally before school for some special treats, however, they only have 2 chairs and a very small table if you want to eat it there, I understand there is limited space. I usually order the apple fritters which are always great, and of course my kids get the donuts with sprinkles.

    Cinnamon roll... half eaten

Update: I recently tried the ham and cheese croissant and was really impressed! The flavor was wonderful, it was fresh and well baked. I will definitely be back for those again!

    Good stuff

So good ! Crescent with Nutella and banana 5stars. Kids loved donuts with cream filling and cookie on top. Will be back to try cannolis and apple fritters next time.

Love the scones. Also had a delicious cherry danish. They have a great variety of pastries and change the selection often.

Such cute cupcakes and cake pops hand decorated. The staff was helpful with answering questions and brought the Midwest kindness. Note that if you are vegan or lactose intolerant, this may not be the spot for you (understandably). We ordered: Pesto parm focaccia: incredible! We sliced and served it with an Italian meal and an olive oil dipping sauce and it was the highlight. Soft, fluffy, and flavorful. -bbq bacon biscuit sandwiches: very good! You can get them to heat them in their oven for you or you do it at home. Just a slight sweetness and hint of BBQ, which seems to have coated the crisp bacon. The biscuit is buttery, fluffy, and perfectly crumbly. Monster cookies: the kids loved these. They are PB oatmeal cookies with M&Ms. great taste, but I wish they were softer rather than crunchy. -Cinnamon roll: the roll itself was huge and very soft. We wished there had been more of the cinnamon/sugar filling in it. However, the frosting was to die for! Just a hint of cream cheese, great consistency (not too thin or thick), and not overwhelmingly sweet. This spot was pricey, but with food costs, it likely needs to be for them to function. Always happy to support great local spots.
