I have been to Heidi's multiple times over the last year and each time I go the experience is worse than the last time. The servers are friendly but service is increasingly slow and the quality of food has also declined. Today we ordered a bear claw, eggs Benedict, the Swiss deluxe omelette and the shrimp sandwich and waited an hour and ten minutes for our food. Granted , it was a busy Sunday with several large tables but two tables seated at the same time as us received their food, finished it, paid their bill and left before we even got our food. The bear claw is hands down the best I have ever had, the eggs Benedict is always good but the omelette was burnt and had very minimal filling. The shrimp sandwich was a joke - no fresh tomato slices as listed, soggy English muffin, cold bay shrimp and unmelted cheddar cheese scattered across the top. I used to love Heidi's but due to the massive decline in food quality and service will probably not return read more

Heidi's of Gresham is a cute place that definitely deserves a stop in. Originally I was drawn by the Dungeness Crab Benedict and after having it I was glad I did. The menu is packed with so many different and unique dishes and so much variety. It's a bit expensive, but understandably so on the more special items. We ate in the lounge and the Bartender was fantastic, definitely kudos to her really kicking butt on Xmas Eve. I do want to come back and try a few more dishes, not to mention the beautiful baked goods! Give Heidi's a chance, it's worth the splurge read more

Heidi's used to be dependable. No longer. My last four experiences ordering the same meal demonstrates this. First chicken fried steak meal. Tasty, plenty of gravy. Second time, no gravy. Third time, ordered a side of gravy in addition to the meal, in order to play it safe. Less gravy than when I didn't order extra. Today, same order, but less even than before. All items ice cold. Rubbery eggs. Looks like it's time to find a new breakfast place. read more

We had a fantastic lunch here yesterday! I searched crab louies near me and this place popped up. I had never been there before and was thinking how fresh could crab be at a old diner in Gresham? But my friend who was joining me had business in the area so I thought what the heck. If the place is not up to par I'll just get breakfast. The place is adorable! I felt like I stepped back in time. The gift shop, the baked goods and pie case. The decorations and booths were so comfy. The server was very sweet and when she didn't understand what my friend wanted she sent the very nice bartender out to make sure we got what we wanted. Our champagne came out in cute little ice buckets with cool glasses and a cherry. After seeing how special the place is we both ordered the crab louies and omg! They were so fresh and a ton of crab! Everything about it was perfect. The homemade 1000 island. The warm crusty dinner roll and the cornbread muffin. I showed my husband this picture and I see going back in the very near future. My family and I came here this morning and what a disaster. My daughter's strawberry lemonade had zero strawberries and was barely even pink, so bitter that we sent it back. Then they brought what appeared to be a not so fresh banana cream pie slice that also got sent back. Then while boxing up left overs, we found a hair under the bread with the cheese fondue. I've been to Heidi's for breakfast, though it's probably been 10 years. I'd never been there for dinner until last night, and I just have to say that I'm astonished at all the 4 and 5-star reviews! Where are these people usually eating that makes this seem like good food?? There were four of us, and we had the Hawaiian teriyaki burger, the French dip, the fish sandwich, and the senior version of the teriyaki chicken. Not one of us managed to choke down more than half, because it was... yucky! It just tastes ba. The French fries were decent, slightly crispy and HOT, but they were the exception. I had the teriyaki chicken burger, and it was bland and the chicken tasted weird and oily. The teriyaki sauce was on the side, and mostly tasted really salty and slightly sweet. Just yuck. The desserts were good, though! Three of us split a hot fudge cake, which was yummy, and my mother was given a tiny chocolate cake for her birthday, and she said it was quite good. I tasted the frosting, and it tasted like homemade Dutch cocoa buttercream. The service was excellent -- absolutely no complaints there. If only the overpriced, terrible food could live up to it! read more

Everything seems to have changed - including employees - I am sure that is the last time I will every go there. So disappointing for my wife and I. Tonight was Heidi's longtime anniversary of opening in 1968, so they dialed back their prices to that era. We enjoyed a Reuben sandwich for $1.95, a side of potato salad for $.55, and berry pie à la mode also $.55. We would've left the restaurant for under five dollars, except of course, we love to drink wine with our meal. And we tipped the busy waitstaff accordingly. Great food -- they served full, hearty portions despite the reduced price. I hope they won a lot of hearts and return customers tonight! Happy Anniversary, Heidi's!! One of the worst casualties of COVID-19 has to be the (temporary) loss of traditional Oktoberfest celebrations across the PNW. Both Mount Angel and Leavenworth have cancelled their events, leaving us with a dearth and a longing for our yearly Bavarian fix. Fortunately Heidi's is closer than both, and a worthy substitute to alleviate the most acute withdrawal symptoms. The exterior, with its water wheel and Alpine accoutrement, was a welcome sight, as was the adorable gift shop just inside the entrance. The interior is warm and rustic, with dark brick and hardwood tones throughout; all that is missing are a couple of massive kegs built into a wall to really sell the Bavarian theme. The servers, each dressed in a unique dirndl according to their taste, was a nice touch. As for the food: homestyle cooking, through and through, just like Oma would make! We ordered a fondue pot (fantastic!) to split with the kids (a first time for them!), stuffed cabbage rolls (massive, hearty and wonderful, with a rich tomato-based sauce), a cup of chicken curry soup (thick, warm, and not too heavy on the curry), and the reuben with potato salad (perfect pastrami, and the dressing on the side, which is a nice touch and prevents the sandwich from becoming soggy). Add to our order three kids meals, two of which were cheeseburgers that had me looking on with envy: they were massive, and awfully reminiscent of an In-N-Out burger, and I mean that with praise. I've never seen our kids wolf down and clean their plates as they did here! My wife and I, on the other hand, were stuffed to the gills with only half of our entrees, so you will absolutely get your money's worth here! My wife ended up finishing her cabbage rolls for dinner tonight, and could only just do so...that's how massive they were! We will absolutely be back, any time we have a craving for a taste of the Alps! It's a lot closer than Leavenworth, and with the closing of the Glockenspiel in Mount Angel, I'm so very thankful that Heidi's exists! What a lucky find, and practically in our backyard! read more

Yes, BEST NACHOS in town!!! The other food ranges from great to not bad, but I haven't tried the gross dishes like liver and onions. Staff mostly very friendly & generous with the caveat they're seemingly often understaffed, especially in the lounge, which is stocked with video poker machines, a full bar with stools and multiple booths. Often there's one person working there attending to everything. So be a little patient and please tip the server/bartender/lottery attendant well. I've seen a ridiculous workload taken care of (quickly) by employees with the utmost professionalism and a smile on their face. Wait times here are still better than many places. So, on balance: totally worth going. read more

Guess I should have researched it further before driving there. Menu had a bit of everything from breakfast to Italian. That's always odd to me. ‍ We had the cheese fondue to start. Bread was dry. Cheese was plentiful but had an odd bitterness to it. My wife had the Swedish pancakes and she enjoyed them. Large portion. I had spaghetti and garlic bread. I asked for a side of sauce because it was super dry with 5,000 noodles and a spoonful of sauce. The sauce was very sweet. Like tooooo sweet. I added a lot of salt. Bread was fine. Ice Tea was great. I congratulate the cooks here. The menu varies wildly but every meal I have had except the scrambled eggs ( must be liquid eggs, yuck) was on point. My family have been in on many occasions and ordered anything from Breakfast to Dinner and Appetizers all the same visit and all were great! The fried chicken is so salty we couldn't eat it and gave it to homeless The chips would have been good, but they put them in a airtight container so they were kind of soggy, plus some of them were even cooked all the way through and kind of raw potato in parts. Very sloppy of the chef to serve partially cooked chips in container that would take the partially well cooked ones from crispy. Macaroni and cheese was weird tasting, not necessarily bad, and it was kind of cheesy stretchy, but neither one of us wanted to finish it. Plus, we ordered a pint and it was only just a little over 3/4 full. Potato salad was wonderful! garlic toast was a joke for five dollars! It was half of a hoagie roll, very slightly toasted, saturated with some yellow looking grease that is supposed to pass for butter I would assume, and it's sprinkled with what looks like burnt garlic. It was edible, but the worst garlic bread we ever had. Without going into specifics, we do not recommend the clam chowder. It was edible. as much as we wanted to like Heidi, almost everything we had was disappointing or in edible. If I ever get outvoted and wind up there, I will order a large potato salad and maybe try a burger. But I have a feeling that anything that has to actually have recipe ingredients in it will not be good. Once again, the fried chicken was so incredibly incredibly salty, I can't imagine anyone eating it willingly and I feel sorry for the homeless people we gave it to. They just don't make places like this - old wood paneling, waitresses calling you "dearie", a gift shop at the entrance with pseudo-Hummels in the display case. A few good old boys having their breakfasts. Oh yeah... I wanted blintzes, they were on the menu. Only offered one type of compote but the waitress allowed for a compote sub without issue. G/f for Swedish pancake, we accepted the officer of a side order of bacon and each had coffee. Our dishes were massive. Three cottage cheese-filled crepes with at least a cup of my chosen blueberry compote. G/f's plate was similarly loaded. Taste was well-within the expected profile, nothing exceptional. Weird soup, my mushroom soup with everything else except a few pieces of mushroom. My meal (the fish) looked good covered in a light sauce, until I noticed it was burned black and flipped over so I wouldn't notice. I informed the waitress and she said the manager would be right over. We never saw the manager. They comped the burned fish and charged me $23.00 for cold soup and the soup that was included with my dinner. If you're thinking of trying this place I recommend avoiding them. A friend and I went in the other night for dinner. We both wanted chicken strips, however I wanted the whole meal and the other person in the party wanted just chicken strips. I was going to give her my salad and she just wanted a side order of two chicken strips. This request has never been an issue in the past, and every waiter and waitress has been able to work it out for us to get our meals just this way. We had a waitress the other night, however, who was awful - terrible customer service and zero ability to cater to the customer's requests. For just a side of chicken strips, she was going to charge the full $17 (the same for the full meal with fries and a salad). She said "we can't do it the other way." (Again, that is not true as multiple wait staff in the past were able to split it up like this for us). The order was wrong, the condiments were wrong (the waitress, upon realizing she forgot ketchup said, "I'll bring your ketchup" ... never did. I finally waved down a busboy and he had ketchup for us in less than 10 seconds). She checked on us but rolled her eyes when we expressed our dissatisfaction (we were never once rude) and walked off. At the front door, there's a sign that says, "If you like Heidi's, tell others. If you don't, tell us." So, we spoke to the manager on our way out. He was very unapologetic, never once offered an apology for our negative experience, never offered any money off, refund, or discount on our next visit. I have attached a picture of our meals. So, I thought I had reviewed this place a long while back but....apparently, I didn't! So, here we go... I've been to this place on several occasions and mostly because my wife and I have a couple friends of ours that likes to frequent this place from time to time. For me, this place is just....meh. Don't get me wrong, the food and service is decent, it's just you will not be served anything here that's really flavorful and certainly not worth the price point given in my opinion. This morning we stopped in with our friends. I ordered the hearty breakfast which consisted of 3 eggs (over-medium), 4 four sausage links (my choosing), hash browns, and I believe 2 pancakes which I asked to be substituted with a biscuit and gravy instead. Jonie, our server, had a quiet minor mental meltdown when I asked for the substitution. My wife ordered the french toast combo (sorry, not pictured). Two whole pieces of egg-dipped bread (cut in two), 2 pieces of bacon, and 1 egg. Our friends ordered the blueberry pancakes with a side order of bacon and a side of the blueberry compote. The price tag of this two items combined ran a little over $28 with tip. My breakfast was...I'll just say...edible, at best. With the exception of the sausage links, the rest of the food had ZERO flavor and very bland. I typically don't add salt and pepper to my food....here, I did. My wife said her food was OK but I think that was after our friends offered her some of their blueberry compote to add onto her french toast. The service definitely could have been better on this visit. After our server took and delivered our orders, she never once came back, to ask if the food was good, to refill our water glasses and/or asked if we needed anything else in the way of condiments other than salt, pepper, and the bottle of ketchup that was already sitting on the table. She only came back to give us our check/pick up payment, period. I think it's quite evident that this place pretty much caters to and relies on a certain crowd of people that have probably spent a GREAT portion of their lives going here for their food fare because that is all they know. Unfortunately, at some point, these people won't be frequenting this place and will be forced to figure out how to stay relevant in the food and service industry. Happy trails, all! read more

On multiple occasions we have gone for takeout orders and they have forgotten food. This time we ordered through GrubHub and when we got the food we were missing multiple items, One of which was an entire meal. This place is definitely not going to be recommended by our family. Or if you do go, make sure you check your food before you leave the building. GrubHub did what they could to fix it by giving us a refund on the food we were not given. This is the second time in two weeks we have ordered food from here and they have forgotten to give us items. To add to this We ordered over the phone to reorder the items we didn't get, I go to pick it up and even that was wrong. I've never had a more ridiculous experience at any restaurant I've been to.
