We've had their fish and chips a few times and enjoyed our meal everytime. Meals come with slaw and crinkle cut fries. The fry sauce is amazing and invites double dipping. The coleslaw is better than any other fast food place. I also always get a cup of the chowder. Better than any I've had visiting our beautiful coast. Right now Captain's Galley is hidden behind a newly arrived red psychedelic-painted Mexican food truck. The food is as delicious as ever. Fried but not greasy, no old oil taste. My usual order is fish, shrimp and clams, chips instead of fries. All made fresh to order. The chips are to die for, fried just right. The breading in the clams, shrimp and fish has just the right amount of seasoning. They are so not greasy that I can eat them all as finger food and wiping my fingers off on a napkin doesn't leave greasy streaks. All are served with a little coleslaw, generous amounts of cocktail sauce, a spicy but not too much so dipping sauce, and the best tarter sauce I ever had in my life. I found something new to make me happy. They have delicious fish tacos! Before trying these I had fast food fish tacos that were more crunchy breading than fish. Captain's Galley brings the fish! Perfectly seasoned fish with toppings in proportion and a nice drizzle of sauce. Now when I go back it's a tough decision as to what to get. If you ever in your life liked New England clam chowder, get yourself on over to Captain's Galley for theirs. I've had New England clam chowder many times in New England and this is so much better! We drove here, because we're in the area. There was no one that we could see, we thought they're closed, we saw a sign: Open, but no one there, so I knocked at the window, finally someone showed up to help us. Because the temperature is less than 40 degrees, we hurried up with our order, so she can go back & close the windows, where it's warmer. We both ordered 2-3 fish and chowder. It took about 7 mins. maybe more, for our order to be done. I actually was disappointed: there were two or three (for hubby's order) fish sticks, (and they looked burned). I was hoping for some chips but I guess that was EXTRA, and we didn't order that. Total for mine is $10. The tartar sauce was filled with dill. The chowder (be both agreed), was salty! (We've tasted that SAME chowder elsewhere before). The lemon was fresh! (Probably, the only thing plus the dill, that's fresh there). This is the first time I wanted Fish & Chips, and Chowder, and no chips or fries. Totally my fault! I should have read the menu, and I shouldn't feel sorry for someone who is cold, and try to rush my order, when I only have seconds to pick what I wanted. Oh my goodness! The best fish n chips I've had in a long time! Hubby was craving fish n chips, did a search for some nearby and this place came up. Sheila is delightful and so friendly. She gave us a sample of her chowder and also delicious! Hubby ordered chowder. The homemade sauces are the finishing touch, yumm! The fries were crispy, good fries. We didnt stay to dine on the patio tonight, a little too chilly. We brought our meal home, popped into the microwave for a little bit. The fish and fries still crispy. Great Fish & Chips! I have very little extra money for anything, but once a month I try and eat out somewhere local. I remember this place from when they were on E Powell in downtown Gresham, but I never quite managed to try it. Wish I had. The cart pod they're in now, thanks to the construction on Powell, was fairly difficult to get to, but worth it in the end. I had the 3 piece Fish meal and the fish flaky and tender and not the least bit mushy. Nice firm delicious fish. Even the Chips (French Fries) were great. Crinkle-cut with just the right amount of salt, also not greasy. There were only three food trucks open and the pod itself was looking pretty sad. I'll chalk it up to a rainy Tuesday and annoying construction. I can't eat here often, but I will be back! read more

We asked for some recommendations and was encouraged to order the fish with the chips. The fish was fresh and crispy but the batter wasn't so thick that you couldn't taste the fish. I love it when the batter is more of a compliment to the fish. The chips were great too! Had to have been homemade chips. GET THE TARTAR SAUCE! The most delicious sauce with fresh dill. It's the perfect accompaniment. It was a rainy and cold so we opted to also get a bowl of clam chowder. Chowder was tasty and full of potatoes and bacon too making it very hearty. The ladies at the window overheard me talking to my partner about it being my birthday that day and offered me a free slice of cheesecake! Honestly such an amazingly kind gesture. Called next day ordered a and time and told Ethan about the lack of tarter sauce. He said he'd make it right. He did not, in fact the fish were very greasy and he didn't make it right.
