This location was a total disappointment. If there was an option for 0 stars, I would select that. First of all, this location doesn't have a coffee menu that the downtown location has nor the new sweet toast they posted on their Instagram. This location is also a bit small so not really suitable for big groups. We came on a Friday for lunch and there's only 1 kiosk so it takes a while for big groups to order and I don't think they have a person starting another order if it gets too busy. They were out of a couple of the drinks for the kids menu, which was okay because there were 2 other options. Not once did the staff interact with us or say hello to us. The wait time for the food was ok but the server basically ran and threw the food at our table without ever saying anything to us. I ordered a pork katsu sandwich and the pork was VERY dry. I also ordered it normal but when she threw it on the table, she mumbled something "it's not spicy" and but there was clearly some red powder on it and looked like my friend's sandwich that she ordered spicy. We went up to ask the girl and she said they accidentally put the powder on but it's not spicy and that was it. She didn't apologize or offer to exchange it. I think it's unacceptable behavior and I was in disbelief. They were also out of ketchup and we had a whole table of French fries with the kids meals... I have been to the other location a few times and the food and service was good as far as I can remember, but this location is horrible. We waited a while after our online order time but it looked busy and understaffed so it was understandable. But wow the sandwich was worth it. Thought I wouldn't like the slaw because I usually hate coleslaw but it was unlike any American slaw I've ever had. So delicious and unique tasting, and paired with the crunchy katsu was just delicious. The fries could use some more crunch but the sandwich makes up for it. read more

I really enjoy the downtown location and was pretty pumped to see there was one in SE area much closer to me! I ordered the meal, it came with a drink, egg salad, and a sandwich of my choice. I chose the shrimp sandwich. I thought the egg salad was overly sour but bland- it needed more sugar. The texture of the egg salad was more runny than a fluffy egg salad. The shrimp sando was pretty decent. There was a good amount of sauce and cabbage but the shrimp itself didn't have that bouncy texture you'd expect with fried shrimp. My partner got the curry rice pulled pork and it was really underwhelming. It tasted less flavorful than a curry packet cube we'd make at home. The staff was nice and greeted us as we came in. This is a new business that recently opened in Gresham. I've driven by a few times but finally had a moment to catch some lunch. All of the menu items were explained by the friendly cashier and I chose the toasted katsu chicken sandwich. I didn't know that the egg salad actually came on it but was SO pleasantly surprised. They taste great together. He had told to me how the chicken was made with a delicate Teriyaki sauce. It was fabulous! Fast Service, and too! When I saw how large each half was I knew I was going to need to-go container. So I asked for a piece of foil. My husband was really going to enjoy this. I have seen my friend post about Tanaka in NW and always wanted to try it, so I was thrilled to see that there's a location in Gresham now! He and I went a couple of weeks ago, and I really enjoyed it. The one downside is that the indoor dining area is very small. However, there is a large outdoor dining area, which is where we ate since it was a beautiful day. It was lovely! I tried the spicy chicken katsu sandwich, and it was delicious! Definitely was hot for me (I have low tolerance sadly haha) but I enjoyed it! Got to try my friend's fries & curry sauce, which were tasty and helped cut the heat of my sandwich. If it's a nice day, I recommend coming and dining outside, and if it's an average weather day, maybe consider to-go since the dining area is small. read more

Tonkatsu sando was good but spicy chicken sando was excellent! Their coleslaw inside made it heavenly. Soft White bread with crispy breaded fried chicken cooked to perfection! Both the Spicy Katsu and Dirty fries were delicious. The spices on the sandwich were really good and were the perfect amount of spiciness. The dirty fries had some roasted cilantro and small peppers with some sort of gravy that gave it a unique flavor. The service was great and super friendly along with the ambiance. Very tasty sandwiches and baked goods. Paid this place a visit on a Friday afternoon. They were very busy. Ordered the chicken katsu sandwich. It was very good. The chicken was cooked very well, still juicy and had a nice crisp to it. The egg salad and shredded lettuce was a perfect complement to offset the fried chicken. The fries were also very good. Great crunch to them. For dessert I had the kiwi sando. The fruit was sweet and seemed very fresh. The house made whip cream was the star of the show, so delicious. I've been to the Tanaka in downtown Portland, and was excited to see them open a location here in Gresham. My prior experience at the Portland location was so-so, because I had the spicy sandwich, which was way too spicy for me. But this experience in Gresham was great. The location itself is a nice building. I like how the Civic apartments have come together, and they have a nice little urban park (with some structures that kids can climb on) adjacent to the MAX stop and the Gresham-Fairview bike trail. This restaurants has big glass garage doors which open onto that plaza, which is nice. The prices are great. Like $10 for a pretty substantial sandwich -- cheaper than Burgerville, and about on par with Subway. And way, way better. The staff on the Friday we were there were friendly. And while I worried that they would be empty (it seems like it is an area that could struggle to keep steady business), they were active at lunchtime on a Friday in July. I had the tofu classic sandwich ($10), dipped in an optional curry ($2) (which is a dark, rich gravy similar to japanese curry made from roux bricks). My family had the pork katsu, shredded-pork sandwich, and a katsu nuggets order. They were all good, but honestly the tofu was my favorite. Great flavor, good texture, good for the environment, and you saved the life of a pig. Stop by and check this place out. It's great! read more

Was disappointed to try this location of Tankana. We arrived about 2:35pm on a Saturday. The place was empty and there were only two employees we saw on their phones. We tried to order a strawberry sando they were sold out... tried to order a chicken nuggets with spicy sauce ... they were out. When we asked out? Out of what? The Strawberry Sando drew me in but it's the Spicy Pork Katsu and the Egg Sando that I'm hooked! I was very pleased to see a Japanese Sando Shop open up here locally. I used to drive all the way to Seattle to the Japanese Grocery near my friend's house and hit up the Sando shop near Uwajimaya. 10/10 Highly Recommend now if only we can get Korean Street Toast nearby I'd be so happy!! read more
