My top recommendation would be House Blend Milk Tea (Strong) for those who need boba to study. The tea smells so good, and the tea will keep you awake (not in an energy drink way but you won't be able to sleep). If you want less strong, the osmanthus would be a good alternative. I usually get 50% sugar. Service is quick. There is a touchscreen order stand with visuals, so it's easy to pick what you want. Parking is a bit tricky. Basically park inside the structure garage behind the store on first floor. The deeper you drive into the garage, the closer you are to the store's back entrance. The Thai tea was so good, very authentic tasting. You can taste the tea and it is not overly sweet like many other places do it. Many places overpower it with sweetness but this is not the case here. Really enjoyed this tea spot in Tempe! It's tucked into what's almost like a parking garage building. Tricky to find at first, but they did do a good job putting visible signs and footprint markers around to guide you in. Huge plus that parking was free and easy. On a recommendation from a friend, I ventured to Tempe to try out this Taiwanese tea house. I ordered the Osthmanthus milk tea (dairy free) with signature black tea jelly and an order of original egg puffs (couldn't resist). Creamy, toasty, nutty, and refreshing. Perfect for a 100+ degree day. The cafe itself is very cute. But when it got busy, it was packed. Not my favorite matcha tea joint! Tea is strong, but just not my cup of tea! We ordered at the kiosk, so didn't have much human interaction. Drinks came out pretty quickly. They make their tea on the less sweet side, so if you prefer sweet, then don't ask for 25-50% sweet. Park in the garage, walk up a few steps, and go through the double doors and you're there! I kept seeing Hechalou mentioned, but for some reason never got around to trying it. Well, recently I finally went to check it out and I was very pleasantly surprised! There are so many milk tea shops now and I feel like many of them are subpar, so that has deterred me from milk teas in general. Following the guidance of other reviewers, I entered The Access apartments parking garage and followed the signs for Hechalou parking, then up the stairs and continued following the signs. Ordering at the kiosk is straightforward. The times I went, it wasn't very busy, either no one else ordering or just 1 party before me, so I was able to take my time in scrolling through the options. When it does get busy though, I can see how the ordering process may be slow especially if people don't know exactly what they want. I love how customizable the drinks are. You can choose a tea base and add toppings. My favorite bases are the house milk tea and the osmanthus oolong milk tea. My favorite toppings are the buckwheat jelly and the thai tea jelly. One of the times I went, the worker mentioned the boba was fresh and even offered me samples for both the honey boba and brown sugar boba. Both were really good! This place is super easy to find if you're on foot, walking on Apache. However if you drive just read what people have said. Follow the signs. Good boba place, nice flavors. I have been wanted to try Hechalou tea, especially their jellys whenever I visited Cali. I am glad they opened a location in Tempe. They do have a kiosk option to place order. Parking shared with the apartment structure can easily be missed as the main sign placed out only in front of the parking structure. It is free parking. I tried the house blend milk tea with sesame jelly (Top#1). You can definitely taste tea quality in the milk tea not just all milk. The sesame jelly was decent but had a lighter flavor than I expected. If you order the pre-made drinks (the top sellers) you get much less jelly, so it's best to order it separately and add the jelly as an extra. The egg puff was cute and delicious. I really liked this place! They are in their soft opening stages and yesterday was the first day! We stopped by around 7:45pm and it was pretty busy. We waited about 10 minutes in line and people kept on coming in after us. The cashier was friendly and explained to us that they had already ran out of a few toppings. The Thai tea jelly i wanted was sold out so I opted for the hun kue for my large milk tea (#5). My sister ordered the medium matcha latte (#3) with almond jelly since they too had sold out of the matcha jelly. We also ordered one order of egg puffs - original. (Order comes with 3x) We sat down and waited for our number to be called out. The table area was clean and spacious and the inside decor is super cute, unique, and inviting. The music was just really loud in this area so it was a bit hard to hear. After waiting about 10 minutes or so, our number was called out, drinks ready, and we were told that the egg puffs were still being made. After waiting another 10 minutes, the worker brought the egg puffs out to our table. Both drinks were delicious. They weren't too sweet, had the right amount of ice, and tasted really good. Great new boba place in town! I'm excited for AZ to have a tea jelly place and Hechalou does not disappoint. It's location is very unassuming and it is a bit of work to get to but worth it in the end. Learn from me: within the parking structure, there is a shortcut, back way entrance. There is a sign to direct you but it can be missed. If you don't go this way, you are going half around the complex to get to it. As you walk in, customers are directed to order at the kiosk. At this time, there is only one kiosk so that slows down how quickly you can get a drink. They do have registers but they mainly use personnel to make the drinks. If you like milk teas or good quality tea, this is a place for you. I love the variety of milk teas, each one having their distinct and robust flavor without being watered down. Since they are known for their jellies, that's what I would go with for toppings but know that of you add boba, it has good texture and flavor. In terms of jelly, there are tea and none tea options. All of the jellies I've had are good and also have robust and distinct flavor. My personal flavor is Ying and yang, which is a mix of black sesame and almond jelly. A winning combination. I find that solely black sesame is a bit one noted for me and I like variety between the two jelly flavors. The tea is a great option for the fruity drinks. Wait time is a bit long but they are always busy and they don't take shortcuts in making your drink. I don't mind this at all because they produce a high quality product every time. I ordered an oolong tea with sea salt foam. This is usually my go to, but I would not recommend it here. There is way too much sea salt foam in the drink and at some point all you're drinking is heavy cream. That being said I don't want to discount the entire store based on one drink. I think the place has potential and I maybe ordered the wrong thing. I would come back again but I'd try something without the foam. Also, as a general warning this place doesn't have easy parking. What an amazing and unique tea shop, straight from Taiwan! Beyond the standard boba pearls, Hechalou offers a wide array of jellies -- including black tea, matcha, buckwheat tea, and sesame -- with the soft, drinkable texture of grass jelly. The staff set out samples so we could try them on their own, and we loved each one! We ordered two house blend milk teas, one with the Thai tea jelly and one with matcha jelly (black sesame sold out by 6pm!). The tea is so prominent and aromatic in the drink that it's one of my favorite classic milk teas in the area now. It also pairs well with either jelly flavor, though the Thai tea flavor is definitely more prominent, while the matcha jelly gets a lot more subtle. The egg pancakes are tasty too. We tried the black tea flavor, and it once again tasted like a well-steeped cup mixed with the richness of a classic egg pancake. It comes in a set of three small pancakes in the shape of a crane -- a little crispier than most due to the shape but great in its own way. I've tried this place both in Cali and Taiwan, and it still tastes exactly how I remembered! They focus on simple, light teas and tea jellies (tea mochi jelly, hun kue!). I got most of my drinks at 30% sweetness, which was just right for me. 50% might be better for someone who prefers their drinks a little sweeter. Having found this place on Instagram I saw they had different flavor jellies with their drink I wanted to try. First time I came I got their house blend milk tea with sesame jelly and was pleasantly pleased with my drink! I got 30% sweetness and found the sesame jelly as a nice earthly palate to complete the slightly sweet drink. It was so good I got it again the next time! This was my first time at Hechalou. My friend is always raving out it. There is a parking garage that leads to the store. We got there in the late afternoon and there was a bit of a line since they were only taking orders at the kiosk. Plenty of tables and seating inside. I got the house blend milk tea with sesame jelly since it was one of their most popular items. It was great. I loved the sesame jelly. It paired well with the milk tea. read more
