First things first - parking. I arrived around 5:30pm to meet my boyfriend who just arrived to Phoenix as visiting me (long distance). The parking lot was very busy, and hard to maneuver. This will likely deter me returning to this location in the later afternoon/evening, but I imagine parking is easier in the morning. Upon entering, I noticed lots of cozy seating and work stations as those are the most used reasons to visit a coffee shop. My boyfriend was nestled in a couch like seating with a coffee table. Definitely perfect for him waiting for me to pick him up when I finished work. He remarked about the records on the wall, and lots of the decor as it was a cutesy coffee shop. For my coffee beverage, I ordered a flat white as it's a good indicator of a decent coffee shop. Happy to report they passed the raw sugar test (put raw sugar on top and quality foam should hold up the sugar). They have great espresso and use one of the best espresso machines I've seen at coffee shops (La Marzocco). Loved the flavor and the foam was divine! Definitely return here for the coffee alone as it's worth braving the parking lot. read more

While in Ahwatukee, I popped by WhereUbean. The friendly neighborhood service was welcoming. Since it was the 12th of Feb and a couple of days before Valentine's Day I had to order the "please date me" latte. ($7.) It was delightful and distinct with the date syrup and rose water. Next time I would choose almond milk because the oatmilk (+1. ) overpowered the delicate rose notes. To my surprise, gluten free food options were available at this non chain business. A chocolate chip almond cookie, peppermint bark cheesecake and an almond cake all tempted me. I went with the almond cake and enjoyed the fresh, moist, sweet treat that was topped with toasted slivered almonds. Winner. Even though I think the tab was a tad high for a morning coffee break ($16.36) I would return. I enjoyed my time here while observing the local patrons interact neighborly with each other. The homey community vibe oozed throughout this cafe which Starbucks doesn't provide. A charming cafe that seats 35 patrons inside and approximately 18 people outside. Stop on by. read more

Great spot with a great vibe. The inside is cozy and a perfect spot to work remote or for hanging out. They have a good amount of seating as well as some outdoor seating when it's nice out. Immediately when I entered this coffee shop, I was feeling the welcoming vibes. I liked the various array of furniture pieces to choose from. We picked the cushioned seats up front by the window. Felt like a perfect morning to sit, relax, and gossip over a fig foam latte. I've never had that in my coffee. So it was definitely a quick pick for me! I was pleasantly surprised with the taste. There were a bit of options on how it was to be made, and thankfully the barista was very patient and kind and helped navigate on the taste that would best fit me. Sorry I. It was perfectly hot (hate when drinks are lukewarm) Not sure if the shades were just drawn around 2 pm but it had a moody vibe and very relaxing. They use ceremonial grade matcha and it is legit. They also have multiple bakery options, including multiple vegan and gluten free options. I eat dairy and gluten free so this was a bonus. Can't believe it took me so long but I finally visited this local coffee spot! It's a ways away from me but they were doing a fundraiser for Palestine so I trekked over. The parking lot was full on a Saturday afternoon so I parked in the lot next to the physical therapy place. It was pretty busy when I went as well but no one was waiting in line so it was good timing. I took a few moments to review their menu and the pastry display cases, lots to choose from. Their drink menu is fairly standard for a coffee shop and they had some seasonal specials that looked good. I ordered their please date me latte, a chocolate croissant, and a brookie (half brownie, half cookie). The baristas were friendly and my drink was prepared quickly. It was supposed to have date pieces but I didn't have any, and it tasted like rose so I'm wondering if they gave me a different drink instead. It was very tasty though! The brookie was delicious as well with two of my favorite desserts in one: chocolate chip cookie and brownie. The chocolate croissant was one of the best I've ever had, it didn't look like it had enough chocolate filling but it was the perfect amount with lots of dough layers and a salty flavor. I've been a fan of Intelligenstia Coffee for a number of years coming from LA and that's what they serve here at WUB. That right there is bonus points. Upon arrival there were a couple of folks hanging around. The staff was attentive and helpful when it came to ordering. The barista behind the bar had confirmed that I like my espresso tonic on the sweeter side before she made it. I appreciate it when baristas give me a heads up in a drink before it's too late. Love the warm undertones inside the cafe with string lights and plants. The large iced coffee has four shots of espresso so be careful when you drink it. The quinoa grain salad was so delicious. I love the vinaigrette they used. I was surprised that they had vegan brownies, but it was a little sour. I think there was too much baking soda in the mix. Short version: if you've never tried an espresso tonic, this is an excellent place at which to try it. If you have already tried an espresso tonic, this is an excellent place at which to have it. Perfect recipe, perfectly executed. If you're at the level of coffee nerddom where you do like to pick up the notes and revel in the actual coffee flavours... I've found that a well chosen tonic recipe complements the coffee and draws out the finish. You don't get harsh bitterness from the tonic, or harsh acidity from the espresso. This results in a delicate, yet simultaneously & unmistakably intense coffee flavour. Perfectly sweetened, perfectly balanced. (To me, this is similar to adding a few drops of water to a complex whiskey. The flavour blooms, and perhaps it adjusts the temperature at which you normally experience the drink.) As with whiskey: Sometimes the day calls for a gnarly, diesel-powered base. Sometimes the day calls for something like this ...a graceful, charming cup of sunlight. I could have taken a photo when I first got it (while you could still see the layering). ...Instead, I affixed the drink to my face like a horse feed bag for 10 minutes and regret nothing. read more
