First, I want to say it's kind of disappointing that during the week they can't be accommodating and let you order off the dinner menu before dinner. The lunch menu is so small and just nothing catches the eye really. So business lunches here are not a good idea. They get shipments of oysters Thursday I came friday, only raw oysters not the smoked oysters? I'm confused, don't use smoke the raw oysters yourself? Anyways, I got the cheese board. It has its own name but I don't know how to spell it. & I'm just going to say so far it was the best cheese board I've had in Ogden. There was like this tomato pesto cheese? Wow. Just amazing. I would only change the balsamic that's like drizzled on top. It did not pair well. Also the bread slices? I don't know what it is about these places that serve the roof of your mouth bread slices. I tried the blackberry mule and it just tasted like blackberry juice, no hint of any alcohol or ginger just blackberry. I would only return for this board. read more

The neon sign is very prominent in our 25th St Historic District. It has always caught my eye but it was ignored for 2 years. Today was the night to try it. Located on the 2nd floor you are transported to a tranquil, low light lounge and greeted by the voice of Doris Day and Billie Holiday. Definitely nothing like the restaurants on the ground level. Started off with the Hot Muffuletta (14.00) which is an italian sandwich filled to the brim with forest ham and a wonderful olive spread and gruyere cheese. Not to mention a trove of truffle fries. The salt level was a little high but I think it would be perfect with a white wine or some type of brew. It was a good meal. I'll be back. read more

Dined there last night, not, I'm afraid to be repeated. Good service and pleasant ambiance. And a promising menu. However. The pear and radicchio salad was excellent, and a huge plate of truffle fries showed promise, but the mackerel appetizer was brutally overcooked. Cured mackerel barely needs warming, but the crostini underneath suggested what was to come. On to the mains: we are two commercial fishermen and a fisheries biologist, so I had to ask about the salmon. 'Farmed king from Washington'. Umm, all the farmed salmon from Washington is Atlantic, but that could be a supplier issue. Still a no. Duck is hard to overcook, but the pasta along with it couldnt hide the heavy handedness. Liz's steak was well past medium rare, with some fingerlings charred beyond edibility. Nic's mushrooms were nice, but couldn't overcome the blandness of daikon and barley. I skipped Desserts, butterscotch and pumpkin just aren't appealing choices to me, but both turned out to be delightful, someone in the kitchen has a light touch at least! read more

Located upstairs on the historic Main Street of Ogden, it feels like a speak easy, and the food and service is Michelin/James beard exceptional. Carson was our bar tender and waiter and was outstanding. We had the 5 course tasting menu, and it was extremely well done. I was afraid it would be too much food, but it was light and a beautiful small bite journey of taste, texture and presentation. Being new to the area, this was our first visit to Hearth (certainly won't be the last!) Adds to our impression that Ogden and Ogden Valley are full of surprises. Service from Carson was first rate; very knowledgeable and courteous server. We enjoyed meeting chef/owner AJ and discussing the particulars of the restaurant. The food was very unique and interesting, with a variety of subtle spices that is very creative. We enjoyed the tasting menu and found that each course nicely "sets the stage" for the next. Meh. For the cost, I expected more. We went with a group for work with some out of town guests. Service was good, but they were out of several items we were interested in (yak meatballs, blue cheese dressing, etc). The pork has a weird citrus au jus sauce that took away the pork flavor. Use to be one of our special places. Unfortunately service was horrible the last time. Waited 10 minutes for water and had to ask the hostess to find our server to order dinner and drinks. Food came 10 mins before drinks. Food was meh. We also enjoyed their flavored olive oil sales - went there for a refill during their stated hours for oil and vinegar - door locked, no answer on the phone. I honestly don't think I have ever been so disappointed with a dining experience. TLDR: the food was straight-up bad, the waiter gaslit us when we complained about the fish being undercooked, and then I got food poisoning. My husband and I were celebrating our 6-month anniversary on a weekend trip near Snow Basin, so we researched restaurants in the area to help us celebrate in style. After looking at the menu for Hearth on 25th, we were so excited, and looked forward to our meal all week! The truffle fries were great, but when our main courses arrived, they were honestly just... BAD. Not only was there nothing special about the flavor of the food itself, but my husband's elk was the toughest meat either of us had ever eaten (I chewed a small piece for over 5 minutes until I gagged and had to spit it out) and my salmon was tough on the outside and totally undercooked, cold, and mushy on this inside. My husband and I are both shy and non-confrontational people, but when a waiter who was passing by asked us how our food was, I tried to be brave and told him my salmon was undercooked. After all, our waiter had assured us that this was the best salmon in the state. But he just began making excuses, saying it was difficult to get the salmon they used cooked as well as they did-- he made me feel embarrassed for saying anything at all. It wasn't very busy, but our own waiter didn't refill our waters the entire time, until we asked him directly. By the time we got back to our Air BnB, instead of celebrating with my husband, I spent the rest of the evening in the bathroom with FOOD POISONING. We spent $100 on a meal that neither of us enjoyed, and that made me sick. I called the restaurant to let them know what happened, and the very kind waitress who answered the phone was very apologetic and assured me that the managers/owners would call me back and figure out a way to make things right... but they never did. The whole ordeal put a real damper on our weekend that was meant to be a celebration. So, so disappointing. read more

The charcuterie board came out without crackers and was much smaller than the previously posted pics. The waiter did not check on us very often. There were a total of 10 people in the restaurant. By the time he came back we'd eaten the cheeses and meats and he didn't seem to care about making the situation right (although he did bring out the crackers once we asked for them, but we missed out on the combination of flavors at that point). On a side note the flavor of the cheeses were delicious. But would have been significantly better with the right ingredients. Every potato that came with the beef was also entirely burnt. We waited to tell the waiter, but once again he didn't come to follow up and see how our meal turned out. Ambiance was good which is why I gave the two star rating. Hearth On 25th is an amazing atmosphere with some of the best food in Ogden, with most of it locally sourced. The octopus and the Yak meatballs are a must! Two other favorites are the tomato bisque and beef stroganoff. Consistently amazing! read more

We came in for a Bachelorette Party and I must stay all of us have never had such a miserable experience. from the second we walked in. We had to ask 3-4 times for a single refill on every single drink every single time. We ordered pretty immediately and were there over an hour before getting our food. The restaurant was empty. When we finally got our food every single meal tasted awful. The steak my friend ordered had 3oz of meat after the bone. The veggie plate was inedible. Then to top off spending "Finer Dining" prices for below par food, there is a 20% gratuity added to every bill no matter the size of the party. There was no apology given to the clearly uneaten food and the constant begging of service. We couldn't get out soon enough, had to request the bill several times, and then once we finally got it they ran the wrong credits cards. Great experience for my wife as she has never had a "fine dining" experience. All things aside the wait for drinks the end of the meal was was pretty slow and didn't get our last order. The chefs selection meal for the price of "fine dining" was unique and inexpensive for fine dining.. if that's what we call this attempt. The small dishes(as they are to be) didn't makes sense as a whole. The shark was great alone, but add the rest of the plate didn't work as a whole. Citrus would have helped. The Bone marrow was undercooked unfortunately. The main meal of the steak was cooked well but again the cheese or whatever it was in the dish didn't work with the meal as a whole. Felt no direction from start to finish of each plate. Hard greens I had to spit out as it was inedible. I will however try this place one more time in hopes that Ogden can produce a "fine dining" not a "just fine dining"experience for people to enjoy. read more

Nota great experience. The Amuse Bouche was a nice start. The rest of the meal headed downhill. Each dish was over-complicated. What could have been great was lost with too many competing ingredients. The Stroganoff had an off flavor, which I've come to find out was dehydrated mustard. Not a welcome addition to a comfort food. I wouldn't have written this review had I not found an unannounced automatic 20% gratuity added on the bill. Space was also left to add a tip. I don't mind paying full price for a good meal. My tip would have been 20% as the waiter was attentive. Slipping the automatic gratuity on the bill without calling it out for a table of one is arguably dishonest. I'm very disappointed by the experience tonight. read more

The owners, Shana and AJ, really go above and beyond by showing their customers they care. On one occasion I had made reservations for some of my friends to eat dinner there for their first time. The server was polite and had great recommendations for food and drinks. We had AJ also making sure we were taken care of well with some house specialties and great conversation. A five-star bistro in Ogden?? My how things have changed since my last visit. Hearth may be in the same location as the lackluster and generally blah Jasoh, but they are galaxies better. Everything from special cocktails to homemade pastas to local, exotic meat choices make this a restaurant I would eat at all the time if I still lived here. Especially on their cool patios for the summer that overlook 25th street. First, we had great service from a knowledgable staff. I mean, they even had a sommelier who helped us decide on a pinot for the meal and gave us a few options to try. Probably the best wine list in town, though, as usual, I was a bit disappointed with the bubbly options. I wonder why it's hard for restaurants to find a decent option that's cheaper than a Veuve...and also not charge an arm and a leg for the glasses or splits? Oh well. They do have an awesome corkage fee, so next time, I can bring my own bubbles, and there will be a next time. That's because the food was spot on. We started with the summer hearth bread, with it's tasty crust, good cheese, and fresh veggies. Granted, it was much larger than we expected. It's basically the size of a pizza, but we took the leftovers home and were happy. I had the elk, and it was so tasty! Perfectly cooked to a tender medium rare on top of yummy risotto. I also tried the stroganoff, which was perfect and probably what I will order the next time I eat there because I wanted more after my taste. We ended with the San Francisco cheesecake, a dense, creamy, and sweet dessert that made my mouth super happy. All in all, an excellent food experience. I hope they do well not only because Ogden needs more conscientious and delicious food options on this level but because I want to be able to come back on my next visit. read more

We had the chef's tasting menu and their oysters. Oysters were fresh. I didn't love their toppings. The bite size tastings were dished in a tiny bowl that made no sense. The bowls were so tiny my fork didn't fit in it. How am I supposed to scoop it out? I had the duck in a mole sauce and it didn't have good taste. There was a random potato on my plate. My husband had a burger and fries which was ok, he also had a random potato on his plate. Next to the fries. We had the cheese cake for dessert and it was solid as a rock, and the apple tart was NOT GOOD! Bitter! Over priced for the quality and service. I will never come back. We came here for the Valentines specific, 7 courses set menu. Worst experience I have come across in a while. From the time that we arrived, it seemed like no one had any idea what they were doing. Didn't know where to seat us, didn't know the menu and what came with each thing. The server was reading my menu over my shoulder because they literally couldn't remember anything about it. The only food we enjoyed the whole night was the little bread appetizer and the salads were okay, hardly anything to them though. The soup was inedible, our main courses were extremely underwhelming. The duck in one was good well but the other was the steak. They wouldn't even allow me to order the steak at our preferred temp. Which I think is a bit ridiculous considering how much we paid for it. Not to mention that the steak came out in 2 very tiny pieces, one totally cooked and one decently cooked, but was more than half fat, and not the kind that melts in your mouth, so that was also basically inedible. Dessert was just as bad. When we brought all this to a managers attention, I could not believe how incredibly rude and condescending she was. She kept saying how much other people that day had been raving about the food (which I thought was pretty interesting because there was hardly anyone there and the people around us, we overheard were also extremely disappointed. Not to mention the fact that we went shortly after the reservations started). I don't really care what others thought, I was trying to address our specific meal and she was incredibly rude. They ended up taking some of the check off, but if she had tried to make it right in the beginning and acted as she cared at all about the customers and the service being provided, we would have maybe come back on a different night to dine again. read more

Food was excellent, presentation was good, wait staff was excellent except for one serious issue. Why would you try an foist a liter+ plus bottle of water on a single dining patron? I asked for still water actually expecting tap water but instead was brought out an 8 dollar bottle of tap water. I'm here on work and was told this place was good, but must admit never expected to see 8 dollars for what turned out to be half a glass of water. Suggestion: save the large bottles of water for tables of four or more. read more

Went back again tonight and I was awfully disappointed. The food was good but can't say the same about the service. We showed up right before a "large" group and ordered some appetizers. Those came rather quickly and were good. Then came a long, and I mean VERY long wait... we took a picture of our appetizer 1 hour and 10 minutes before our food started to show up. By then we were livid! We brought our 2 year old who had to wait over 1 hour and a half before getting her Mac and cheese! Once the food finally came our waitress apologized and told us that they only had one chef tonight who had prioritized the larger group's orders first... I get the kitchen can be backed up but be up front about it. Once you noticed we've been waiting for a while come and give us an update on our food! The food finally came and was ok (some of the food was over cooked - wrongfully distributed steaks amongst our group) but the waitress never came back to check on us so we were out of water before the end of our plate and I had to get up to get a steak knife! After that, we had to actually ask for some sort of compensations because that didn't come to her mind as a sorry. We ended up getting desserts on the house once we asked for A gesture. I am fairly disappointed with tonight's dinner and actually wouldn't recommend this restaurant anymore. Update -- just got home and opened up the "free desserts".
