Savannah has been a yearly destination for me and my family for ten years now. For the first nine, I would see these Hearses drive by with "tourist" in them and I would say to myself "there is no freaking way I'll ever get in one of of those cars like those other dopes". So on the ninth year, after several Wet Willies, I decided what the hell. We got a really late tour that night. You enter the car from the back and sit in a barstool like seat that wobbles back and forth as they drive you around the city. I've done this tour twice. Each driver has their own route. The first time it went was 5 stars. The guy drove us to places in Savannah that I have never been to before. Being late at night, I swear it was some scary stuff. The driver had great stories and the places were very, very shady and scary to say the least. My second time was with a different driver. His tour was 3 stars. I guess the first guy set the bar so high that it was hard for this dude to live up to that standard. Don't wait nine years like I did. Recommend. read more

We've been on a lot of ghost and historical ghost tours. This was by far the worst. A few stories interspersed with silence while driving around in circles followed by a trip to the ghetto to stand in an empty room of a butcher shop where a guy murdered his family with 'Halloween' style cheesy props and a 'museum' of equally hooky junk. Then after tipping quite generously we are given sob story that the driver has a mortgage to pay.... The only draw to this tour is the hearse which, after the fact, isn't that great There's a lot of tours in Savannah. Skip this one. read more

We went on this tour Saturday night, and won't do it again. When picked up by the hearse, the only option to "board" is a broken step stool. The seats inside are rickety and barely bolted down. We drove around in circles listening to 3 different stories. The driver did go off course to take us all to a old butcher shop (without pre warning) that house different "scary" stuff on the walls. We ran a red light, pulled out in front of buses, and the icing on the cake was the drunk couple that made out the entire time. We literally paid and ran away at the first stop that dropped people off, even though that wasn't our stop. read more

Our guide was "Peg Leg Ron" who started our tour by telling the ladies in my group about how pretty they were and to watch out because the hearse will rip their dresses off. Creepy, and not in a ghost tour sort of way. Old Peg Leg had us all over the historic district, but I wouldn't be able to tell you want I saw because he mumbled incoherently for most of the tour. The stories, when we could understand them, were all over the place. There was no offer to get out of the hearse or to stop for a drink, which I sorely needed after sitting on the crappy seats in the hearse. The exhaust smell was overwhelming and left us all with a headache. I would avoid taking visitors on this tour. read more

The girl scouts wanted to go on a ghost tour, so the four of us chose to be driven around in a hearse. The driver was right on time to pick us up and then we picked up another four people at another nearby hotel. The driver was nice and informative and we got to hear some good ghost stories. They require a deposit by credit card over the phone to make/hold the reservation, but at the end of the tour you can either pay with cash or a card. Having been to Savannah a few times & never taken a ghost tour, I made it my mission to experience it this time. What a disappointment. Around 3 in the afternoon, I called the number, left a message on their creepy answering machine & waited for a return phone call. Finally, I made a 2 person reservation for a trip that night at 10:45. According to the dispatcher, "there were only 2 seats left". (Ha, that's what they all say...) I even had to share my credit card information through the phone to reserve, which I thought was very unsafe. No fraud charges as of today. We were waiting on the hearse to show up (~10 min late). The hearse that shows up & my bf & I excited, greeted the driver. Then a man showed up out of nowhere like "Wait, I have 3, where are we gonna sit?" & starts a commotion. There were not 5 empty seats on this particular car. The driver is radioing who knows. We are not about to argue with this dude just because we both are like this is not worth the emotional effort. I'm not gonna feel proud of myself for winning a shouting match with an old man. We gave our seats up. The driver said not to worry another hearse was on the way to get us, & he reassuredly radioed someone. Approx 11:30pm: The next car shows up- with only 1 seat available! The driver laughable told me I can sit on my boyfriend's lap. First of all, no for so many reasons. We legit just said "Ha. No." & walked away fuming. Seeing as we an interracial couple, I always have to wonder if this is the reason for their behavior. We did call the company's main number to voice our frustration, (I'm not just ranting through Yelp) but he just brushed off the situation similarly to the driver & not much else. My biggest regret of the night was not getting the numbers off the cars or the names of the drivers. I won't try to do this type of tour again. Better to rely on my trusty feet. read more

Underwhelmed. I have an odd propensity towards anything horror related and halloweenish, and this inclination has brought me on numerous ghost tours in many different cities. During my first ever visit to Savannah, which claims to be "one of the most haunted cities in America," I knew going on a ghost tour was a must-do. My two friends and I grabbed a handful of brochures, all from different companies who run ghost/haunted Savannah tours and started comparing prices and features. Accounting for the fact that after a day of walking around the city in the Southern heat and humidity, all our inner thighs had just about enough friction for the day and our feet were done, we decided upon the hearse tour due mainly to the fact that our lazy butts could sit down and we did not have to walk. It's $15 a person and that was on the cheaper end of the tours, so we were sold. It was a bit of a hassle to get in touch with someone, but we were able to call that day and make reservations with only a few hours notice. When we met with our tour, the tree of us were paired up with two other parties, as the hearses holds 8 people. Our guide (who looked as though he hadn't showered in a week and didn't own a comb) introduced himself quickly and we set off on our way. The hearse is open (no a/c) and you listen to your guide through speakers as you drive around the squares in Savannah and he gives his spiel. Maybe if our guide was more into it and more animated, it could have been okay, but it really wasn't... it was completely underwhelming and the stories were lame. I took this tour less than 36 hours ago and I am having a hard time recounting any of the stories he told- and I have an elephant grade memory. You literally just roll on past supposedly haunted houses and sites, hardly stopping for long enough to take a photo. We did go out to Bonaventure cemetery which takes you out of the main city which was cool since I would not have seen that area otherwise, but again, we drove there, passes by old shit, and then kept on driving. At no point was I even remotely scared... well except for when a biker gang of hoodlum city kids started chasing and circling our hearse... but as far as the tour- zero scare factor. Out of any haunted tour I've ever done, this one was the worst and least scary. What really pissed me off was when it came time to pay. They take card but prefer cash (obviously), well when one of my friends handed over his credit card, the driver.. erhm, I mean, tour guide was noticeably annoyed and grouchy about it. If you get crabby about taking card, then don't offer to.. THEN, as I went to pay, I asked if he had change, as I only had a $ he said no. I scrambled up the right amount and handed it over (giving him a 5 dollar bill as well as singles) and then when my other friend paid, she gave him a twenty, and he never gave her back her change! You can't just not give change. But he did.. he said he didn't have any even after we pointed out that I just gave him small bills. Skip or find a different tour. read more

This review is based solely on the customer service experience, not on the tour... While walking around Savannah, we spotted some of these cool open-topped hearses doing ghost tours. We jotted down the number and thought it would be a good time! When we called the company, the woman answering the phones was very rude and not helpful at all. We scheduled the tour anyway and based our dinner reservations around our 9:45pm start time. We at the restaurant at the Bohemian hotel, which is where the hearses pick you up. During dinner I got a call from the same woman saying she'd overbooked the tour and she was canceling our reservation. No 'I'm sorry", no 'Please let me reschedule you", nothing. She basically hung up with no help. We were super disappointed and our waiter happened to notice and asked what had happened. We explained the situation to him and he told us that a lot of times they have no-shows (because they don't require a credit card for reservations) and told us to go down at 9:45 anyway and maybe they could fit us on. So we tried that, but unfortunately everyone showed. The drivers told us to call and try to get on the midnight ride. We spoke to the rude lady and made another reservation for midnight. Again, we hung around that area so we could be there on time. At midnight, the driver pulled up and told us we were the only ones scheduled for the tour so he wasn't going to be able to take us. We explained was had happened earlier and he felt bad, so he called the office to see if the woman would allow him to take us. She said no. So again, no tour. Again, disappointed. Moral of the story is-- if you want to go on this tour, don't change your plans around it because there's no guarantees. And the woman in the office needs some customer service training. If we ever go back to Savannah, we definitely won't be using this company. read more

I always try and go on one of these every time im in savannah. They are wonderful! -please bare in mind all tour guides have their own unique style, and shouldnt be faulted b/c they dont fit the guide description your friends gave you- I prefer the guides that arent afraid to stop the car, really show you around, let you snap pictures, share their own stories, etc. However, i was just as tickled with our last guide 'peg-leg' (im not being rude, he called himself that!) He was genuinely sweet, and really enjoyed giving the tour. Fumbling his way through most of the stories, desperately sticking to the script, and mispronouncing business names, he was just a ball of adorable. His tour was definately the more kid/family friendly version. But this is why you should keep taking the tours w/ every visit! Theyre always different :) P.s. I have gone on several walking ghost tours before so this was a first for me. It was cool to have the tour guide pick you up from your hotel and it was a welcomed convenience after walking around all day I have to admit. Our tour guide was born for the job, he had a creepy voice and told us each of the stories with great historical depth as well as disturbing descriptions of gruesome happenings. Learning about some of the morbid things in Savannah, like all the construction that is on top of cemeteries, was fascinating and also made me enter my hotel room with extreme caution as I was sure that I would see the ghost of a soldier hanging out ordering room service or something. It was a really cool experience. There was a part of the tour where I really was scared, the tour guide took us to the Jewish cemetery and started telling us ghost stories... after hanging out there for a while the silence was a little terrifying. lol Awesome tour, you will love it to death! read more

While we were waiting for a table at the fabulously delicious Vinnie A Go Go's pizzaria one of my coworkers noticed a crazy hearse parked behind us. Hearse? Old Caddy? Late night ghost tour? Pizza? I'm sold. We canceled our request for a table at Vinnies and took our pizza and beer to go. We climbed into the early 80's lead sled Cadillac and the 3 of us gear up like young kids about to embark on something we had been joking about doing earlier. Like a Range Rover in the Serengeti there are tall stool like chairs in the back of the modified hearses with a popup roof for easy viewing. The tour itself was really interesting and eye opening about the city, it's architecture, and history. However I am certain that our tour guide is the best in the city. Ron "Peg Leg" is a true Southern. He loves this town, knows every nook and cranny, has a great Southern drawl, and is hilarious! While we chowed down on delicious giant slices of pizza (we also got one for Ron) he paraded us around the haunted sites. Honestly I learned more in the hour and a half ride about our South and historic Savannah then ever especially in school. Did you know that General Sherman left Savannah standing and gifted it to Aberham Lincoln for Christmas? If you are going to Savannah and have some time to kill go on this tour it's easily worth the $15. If you can get Ron "Peg Leg" then guaranteed your trip will be fun. read more

Terrible Tour, terrible service. I'm late in writing this review but it eats me up how terrible our experience once so I had to write it! The concept of this tour is really neat! We read some good reviews and were really excited. There were 6 of us girls for a girls weekend. Our driver, Robert, picked us up at our hotel and we were off. It was all downhill from here. Our tourguide/driver made many rude and sexual comments towards us that we laughed off at first but continued the entire time! He blabbered and blabbered the entire night and we never got one entire ghost story from him. At one point, he even said "that ghost story is so scary I can't even tell you about it!" Isn't that the point? He also told us if we wanted to hear about the graveyard we should youtube it. He told us about his wife, personal stories, etc but no joke not one complete ghost story. We were happy it was over but it did end 30 minutes short. After the tour, we paid him and contacted the owner on our drive home to Virginia the next day to ask for a refund. We told him we were made uncomfortable with the sexual comments, the tour ended 30 minutes short, and the tour guide did not actually tell us ghost stories. We were very polite. His response was that if you saw a movie and didn't like you wouldn't ask for your money back. Needless to say, I would not recommend this tour. I have heard great things about other drivers but the service we experienced was awful from both our driver and the owner. My friend who was with me and experienced the same terrible experience wrote a fair review on trip adviser and here is a perfect example of how pathetic the owner was. The owner commented on our post and clearly lied to make the review seem illegitimate. Reading all the rave reviews, we were looking forward to a kitschy, funny and entertaining ride through Savannah. Sadly, it was a major disappointment and an experience that left us feeling physically sick. Like others on this page, we were seated at the rear of the hearse. Due to the nature of the tour, the guide has to have the car idling with the engine on to avoid getting a ticket. As a result, we were nearly poisoned by the toxic fumes from the exhaust pipe. No matter where we stuck our head, the fumes enveloped us.... We ended up having to stop the tour, get out and then stagger back to our hotel. I can't stress how bad it was. Made us wonder if they were taking the hearse thing a little too seriously. In addition to the gassing, the tour guide was completely uninspired and the content was extremely poor in comparison with what you can hear on the plethora of trolley tours throughout the city. Nothing was scary, lots of it was mumbled and most of the time we ended up zoning out through a combination of boredom and toxic fumes. The best thing about the night was that they didn't expect any payment for having us jump ship half way through the tour. In case you can't tell, I don't recommend anyone taking this tour unless you have a death wish and/or a desire to have your body conveniently transported to a funeral home. read more

You have to take a ghost tour when your in America's most haunted city. Its a must. Well, and if you have to take a ghost tour why not do it while riding around in a hearse? First to make reservations you have to call, leave a message and they will call you back. They were slightly rude on the phone, left a vague description of where they will pick us up, and don't take your credit card. We were sure we were never actually going to get this tour. We got to the location behind the hotel they told us to wait at and there are two hearses there. These people were not friendly, or at all helpful. they did not explain until 15 minutes of the crowd of people being confused that there are many hearses and they will call your name if you are part of their tour. Finally our hearse pulled up, the chairs are pretty unstable, i thought I was going to get a bruise from all the bumping into the back wall I did. THE TOUR: the tour itself was awesome. Our tour guide had tons of information and was very funny. She seemed genuine and was even able to ignore the fact that one of the people on the tour was a belligerent drunk who kept yelling stupid things. The tour gave a lot of really incredible history on Savannah and some really great ghost stories. We probably heard around 10 different accounts of hauntings and numerous other stories about death and history. It was absolutely worth the money. Once they improve their phone service and greeting this could be an incredible tour. read more

This was a fun activity on our last night in Savannah! I would recommend it on your first night or two when you're visiting since it's a great way to see a new place! In my experience, it was more of a story and history tour than a ghost tour, especially because my mom and I went to the 6 pm tour since we didn't know how creepy it would be! One star is too many! Disorganized, disjointed, disappointing! I've been on a number of Savannah ghost tours - both walking and in a horse drawn carriage. My teenage daughter wanted to do the hearse tour. What a waste of time and money! Pickup was a mess. Half a dozen hearses came to the pickup point- none were "our" hearse. Finally, about 15 minutes after the tour was supposed to start, our driver called. She was on the way. First, we had to drive to another pick up point for 3 more riders. They weren't there, so we had to sit and wait while our driver called them. Finally, we found them and we were on our way. First stop was an old hospital by Forsythe Park. The driver parked the hearse, got out a step ladder and stood on it as she proceeded to tell us a few ghost stories. Okay, weird, but not too bad. Not sure I believe there are steel racks with the bodies of yellow fever victims under the fountain at Forsythe Park, but whatever. The next stop was Parker's gas station on Drayton. She encouraged us to go shop in their gourmet market. We wasted a good half hour ther. Yeah, there was one ghost story about the Irish bar across the street, but overall. This was a colossal waste of time. Back in the hearse, around a few squares . A ghost story at the 1790, then back to our starting point. Oooookay.... They took a credit card to hold the tour. No one told me I'd actually be paying the driver. Fortunately, between my daughter and I, we had the cash, but what a mess. STAY AWAY! read more

I head great fun - but three stars, why? The tour was only about an hour or so. I guess I didn't realize Savannah was so small and easily navigated. Tour guide was nice and friendly. I would have loved more historical info. These are mostly wives' tales. Great jumping off point to do more web-based research for follow-up. Also, the vehicle! Felt vaguely like I might fall out of my seat at anytime. Also, they take cards but cash is def preferred. It's one of those card machines that takes an impression of your card. Spooky! There are lots of ghost tours in Savannah and I think we picked the best one! Driving around in a hearse, hearing spooky tales and seeing tons of creepy places? Sounds like my kind of night. Our driver was fantastic. I think his name was Brett? He was a great storyteller and took us all over town. None of the other tours would have taken you to these places. Most of the tours seem to have you walk around a mile's radius and that's all. But we went all over the place. Saw lots of random creepy spots (so many of them I can't even tell you) and the tour guide really was great. They'll pick you up from your hotel or wherever you'd like. A hour and a half tour for $15? We got more than our money's worth. Also, be sure to tip your tour guide/driver/fantastic spookyteller! That's right, I said spookyteller.
