The Savannah Taste Experience food tour had a nice variety of "samples" along with interesting information about the history of the food and the areas we visited. While the tour information indicated there would be walking and some stair climbing, it didn't mention we would be walking up a steep hill covered with ballast from the riverfront back to the meeting point. After the tour, we realized that some personal belongings were lost and the staff at the store could not have been more helpful trying to track down our missing item. read more

We went to this food tour the first day of our trip and it was amazing!! Our tour guide, Laura, was so knowledgable of the area and history that surrounds Savannah. The tastings were perfect portions and a chance to cool down from the Georgia. The tour ran about 3-3.5 hours but again, including chances to sit down and cool off, while not lingering in one place too long where you'd get bored. Today felt like stepping into Savannah's storybook -- and eating my way through every chapter. Five ladies, sunshine overhead, and a walking food tour with Savannah Taste Experience (Southern + Secret Tour) that was as much about history as it was about indulgence. We started at Zunzi's, where they handed us the award-winning Conquistador sandwich -- marinated chicken draped in their famous sauce called (and I quote) "Shit Yeah." And yes... shit yeah is exactly right. Stop #2 was Quinn's -- where the fluffiest biscuits and gravy seemed to float right off the plate. The kind you could write poetry about, if you weren't too busy eating. Then over to Sorry Charlie's for a fried green tomato crowned with lump crab, along with a little taste of the South's most debated snack: boiled peanuts. I tried them. I experienced them. And I can confidently say that experience does not need to be repeated. At Mojito's, we redeemed our palates with a warm, savory chicken empanada that felt like a hug. And finally, we ended back at tour headquarters with cheese straws and a scoop of Leopold's Blueberry Praline Crunch -- sweet, creamy, and everything I didn't know I needed today. Our guide, Beck, was the real magic -- weaving in stories of Savannah's past, pointing out hidden gems and local favorites as we wandered. I had a tour on a Saturday afternoon in January. Chris led our tour and was a pleasure! He was so knowledgeable and friendly. Super accommodating for some others that needed a vegetarian meal at the last minute. The food was delicious and filling! Our guide Cathy was very joyful and passionate about guiding tours. She was funny, quirky and knowledgeable. I might suggest not holding traffic back so dramatically as drivers might be perturbed by that approach but otherwise great. I was disappointed SQ22 was removed from our route but what we tried was fine. The tastes were moderately portioned. Took the Port City Food Tour with Savannah Taste Experience yesterday and it was awesome! This three hour tour included stops at Zunzis, Spread, 22 Square, St. Neo's Brasserie, and ended with ice cream from Leopold's. The food was amazing and our tour guide Joshua was so fun and entertaining! He ended up taking us to a couple extra stops to try out along the way and even showed us a super secret speakeasy that I had not even heard of in my three years in Savannah. I was shocked! Plus he was super knowledgeable about the history of Savannah and was an endless resource for travel tips and places to check out while here. If you want to try food from some local spots and learn history along the way, this tour is for you! I highly highly recommend this food tour as a way to explore the city. I think it was better than the hop on hop off tour. We had Cindy as our guide and she was very knowledgeable about the restaurants and about the city, even stopping to explain the history behind a theater and some squares. We did the East Side tour and they were able to accommodate a vegetarian at every stop! We had a mushroom sandwich, fried okra, sweet tea, Leopold's butter pecan ice cream, a spinach and feta empanada, a fried potato taco, and a honey tasting. We got lucky at the honey place because the owner was there and he explained the different types of honey and how he makes them. The food was fantastic at each place, and I would definitely go back, especially to Zunzi's. The tour was around 2.5 hours where you walk to the different stops, but there is a lot of time to sit at the restaurants and the total walking distance was not far (less than 2 miles). read more

We stopped at six places for food, but one was a cheese cracker that was about the size of two cheezits. That was really the only negative. The rest of the food was excellent. Stop 1 was Zunzi's for their signature sandwich. At the other stops we had an empanada, fried green tomato w/ loose crab meat, gnocchi, and ice cream. Is it worth the price? Debatable.
