*Part 2 Of 2* 12/15/24 The Massage Experience: Once ready, I climbed on to the massage table and waited for Mei to enter the room. Mei started with my neck and worked her way down to my back. I remember her doing things differently than other massage therapists. I liked how Mei layered the massage cream onto my skin without seeming to remove her hands from my body. I liked this style of hers. It felt great the way she did it. I will be sure to request her again for a two hour session. While Mei massaged my shoulders and back, her method of massage was mainly her forearms and elbows. While my right shoulder was sore from tension, she did help relieve a good amount of pain. Mei's forearm on my gluteus maximus wasn't bad, but her elbow on my glutes was too strong. I asked Mei to use her hands and fingers more. She did not fully understand what I was saying, so used a method in American Sign Language called Classifiers, to help her understand. I simply used my own hands on my glutes and demonstrated massaging my backside with hands and fingers. Mei got the message and got down to business. Mei learned too that I am not one for hot stone massage. Now that I am saying this, why do I think someone might say "John, you know hot stone massage might help your right shoulder." Maybe, Should Be, Could Be or Would Be, I will try it out next time I get a massage in September. Mei did a good job on my body, but most of the massage was focused on the area with the most amount of tension . By the time Mei finished massaging my legs, my 90 minutes were almost up. Mei finished off my massage with a foot massage using petroleum jelly and suave lotion. This method seemed to make my feet less greasy. This is a good thing considering I was wearing tevas. Mei used a hot towel to get any leftover residue off my feet so I wouldn't slip and slide. I left a decent tip for Mei. I will definitely come back here again, but next time I will make an appointment so she will be available. I recommend trying this place out. The prices are fair and you get your money's worth too. If you wish to get a private room, it is better that you call and make an appointment. 90 minutes is great, but to get the Full Monty, two hour or three is your best bet. Needful Things-In Case You Didn't Know: Since there is a good side of things. I am compelled to express my concerns on things I saw while getting my massage. When I spoke about the massage table being too close to the doorway/curtain area, I wasn't kidding. Since I do not like putting my face in the hole of the massage table, I noticed the curtain move and a person's face appeared in the gap. After the person and I locked eyes, the person quickly moved away and the curtain resumed it previous position. Invasion of privacy is not welcome. This is not the first time I have experienced something like this. I let it go. Possible mistake?! Maybe. My body started to relax again, when I saw the curtain open back up again. This is when I was on my back this time around. The same scenario played out again. My mind started thinking a sign of some kind should go up letting staff know the room is occupied. If this continues to happen, people might start refusing to pay for invasion of privacy. I let the second intrusion slide as well, but there will not be another one without consequences. Please put a sign up letting others know the room is in use. Apparently curtains closed isn't an indication the room is in use. read more

Glorious!! I mean what has taken me so long to come here?! Okay it's not the most relaxing per say but you can't beat it. I'll start with the drawbacks. There is the mall noise that is audible, so less traffic more quiet, more traffic less quiet. There's also the sound of the timer going off when the timeframe for other peoples massages are up. There's also the slight mutterings of the staff. Last among the drawbacks is the slight language barrier. ALL THOSE THINGS ASIDE.... this place is wonderful. I came in on a whim and figured why not check it out. I got the 30 minute foot reflexology massage. You sit in the chair prop your feet up, then sit back and relax. They drape a towel across your arms and chest which is cool. A gentleman conducted my foot massage and it definitely felt like a deep tissue massage for my feet. At certain points it bordered on uncomfortable but I know it's what my feet needed. I could feel the knots being worked out of my feet. It also included rubbing your calves a little bit, but most of the emphasis is on the feet. It's the best foot massage I've had. Will likely be back to check out the other services. read more

I've gone to this place at least 10 times, because: 1. I can walk in whenever I can't get a last minute appointment at Tea Spa; 2. I think it's cheap at $30 for 30 minutes (this is the service I always go for, but they do have shorter lengths as well as a full body massage) before tip and tipping via credit card is accepted here; 3. The therapists are great at working out stiff shoulders and back because of the acupressure technique (much different than a Swedish massage where the pressure is light and soothing). One or two therapists exert a lot of pressure where it can be painful, but overall I've had a positive experience with most therapists. Whenever I go there with a tank top or shorts, they'd throw a towel over me and give me a massage through the towel, but they will make direct skin contact on the neck/shoulders. They use petroleum jelly and/or Suave lotion for the neck/shoulders. The 30 minute massage focuses on the back, neck, and shoulder area. Legs/arms/head get brief attention. There are chairs next to every massage bed, and you can put your purses, shopping bags, etc in the container under the chairs, so I feel my items are safe while I'm getting a massage in an open space with other people. Other reviewers mention the mall sounds, but I am not sure if anybody's mentioned the smell. I would choose the smell of Auntie Anne's buttered pretzels over the scent of oils a thousand times over. Can't say enough about this place. Me and my husband go there often. We've always preferred deep tissue massages, Lee/Li is the man for that! And to be honest majority of the employees there do a great job. Communication is key, let them know if you prefer a softer/harder touch, or if you'd like them to focus in on your shoulders, calves, etc for the time slot you select. This establishment is a calming environment with instrumental music most times. Clean and professional. Do expect a little chitter chatter among the employees. That never bothers me. read more

We hA ve been familiar with this wonderful massage destination for decades. It has always been known for its service and price point. As of today we will no longer use this establishment for any type of service. It appears that the staff that used to work there have been replaced with an over bearing front desk person who looks like she's taken control of the last point of contact. Payment. Upon receiving our bill we saw nothing unusual and we were prepared to leave a larger tip than usual. When we circled the tip percentage we wanted to leave, she directed us to circle the 20% tip box instead, indicating that it was mandatory with two people receiving a massage. There were no signs indicating mandatory gratuity anywhere and we were not warned before the massage that 20% gratuity was mandatory at the time of payment. This place has turned into a scam factory. Stay clear of this place if you want to enjoy your trip to the Wheaton Mall without getting the Police involved. We paid the mandatory tip knowing full we'll that it was illegal if there is no posted warning or pre service warning. We only wanted to savor the massage and not ruin the peace of mind that sometimes remains for hours after a relaxing rub down. They just lost two long term customers who have brought them business for many years. I imagine other customers who were used to the previous friendly and accommodating staff will also seek a massage elsewhere. There is another massage service at an open kiosk in the main hall that is friendly ,and frankly, they give a better massage for less money. We will be using their service from now on. Healthy Magic has fallen into the old American Scam Machine. They will probably have to close up or change staffing after the first outraged customer calls a cop on them. Healthy Magic is the massage spot you're looking for. It's fairly priced and the therapists are mostly dudes who can bring on the pressure! There are no frills and the Chinese dudes who hardly speak English do their job well. If you want a foot massage to relieve all your stress, you won't be disappointed with the service here. I love how they use timers and show you the amount of time on it in the beginning so you know they're not cutting your paid-time short. Westfield Wheaton has a LOT of massage options, including massage chairs and chair massages. Healthy Magic has the same prices as the chair massages, but allows to you receive massages in a dim room on a massage table. It definitely feels more like a "spa" experience than being massaged out in the open with other shoppers walking by and/or watching. The quality of the massage is good, albeit basic. There's no bells and whistles, just bodywork over clothes on a massage table. I appreciate that they take credit card, and that they allow you to choose from a variety of timed packages (from as low as 10 minutes for $10!), so you can easily squeeze in a quick appointment while waiting for a friend. There are a lot of masseuses as well, so I have never had to wait when I visit. However, despite being in a back room, the massage experience is not very quiet. The noisiness is quite distracting, and makes it a little difficult to fully relax. Hearing other customer's timers going off isn't too big of a deal to me, but the employees talk pretty loudly when they are waiting for customers. Maybe it would help if they had a break area for the employees? Overall, of the massage options at the Wheaton Mall, I like this one the best. I plan to continue patronizing this business, but I really wish that they had a quieter environment. read more

The massages are usually very good. But the masseurs talk incessantly and disturb the good vibe of the massage. Also, I cannot communicate that I want them to stop talking while massaging me. They talk with each other the entire massage and it's so annoying, and not conducive to relaxing. If they didn't do this or if I could communicate with them that their constant chatter isn't enjoyable to listen, actually, it produces stress in me, I would go more often. Now during COVID, it's imperative that they not talk during a massage, even if they are wearing a mask. I came to Healthy Magic for a reflexology foot massage mid-day on a Sunday. I did not have to wait, walked right in and started the massage right away. The staff are a bit perfunctory, asking immediately "how long" ushering you to a station quickly, and then showing you the time for your service on individual timers. I didn't mind at all, I was there for a massage not conversation. The 20 min reflexology foot massage was nice, and just what I needed after a 4.5 mile walk that morning. The sound from passers-by in the mall can be heard in the massage area, but it wasn't too bad. At one point a high-pitched alarm went off in the mall so the staff closed the front glass doors, which really helped to muffle the sound. It would be nice if they could keep the front doors closed all the time to keep it more quiet (just post a large "Open, come on in!" sign or something). Many other people were getting back/full body massages, I will probably go back at some point for that. I would recommend this place, a good service for a good price. read more

Went in on a week night (Thursday) so its not as noisy. They have good customer service but they talk over you with other employees. I could ignore that because I was really sore but if you are stopping by just to relax, then it's not the best. I would give more stars but I went there because one of my arms (near the shoulder) and side of my leg were extremely sore for the past 2 days. I got the 30min massage. I, also, explained to the gentlemen what parts were sore and where I wanted the focus. However, he barely focused on those parts. Instead he focused on my back the whole time. After being unable to reserve a spa appointment for my severe back pain, I decided my last resort was to go find a communal acupressure place in the Mall, Yelp brought me to Healthy Magic. Unlike what the previous Yelper mentioned, the Healthy Magic store is now located near the Costco. So if you're going to park, park near the Costco entrance and come into the mall, make a right, and find Panera Bread. It is right across from it. It was a Wednesday night and only one other customer was there. He was getting his back massage, and seemed to be quite pleased because the masseuse was stepping/kneeling on his back. I opted for the 30 minute acupressure for $30 (they also had 1 hr for $55) and the lady wasn't really putting as much pressure as I would have liked even though I had requested more. Considering I really wanted to just relax, it was very hard to when they were having full-blown conversations in Chinese among all the masseuses joking with each other about things from love, other customers, life. I spoke to my masseuse in Chinese, so I'm sure she knew I could understand and hear what was going on since she was right over my ear. I was glad they seemed to be having a good time, but it wasn't the zen-like experience I was looking for. Her technique was good, especially around the leg area, but not so much the back. I would suggest this place if you have nowhere else to go and you need a quick and affordable rub-down with clothes on, but don't be surprised if you hear your masseuses chatting among themselves while you are getting your massage. read more

No part of me wanted to go to this place. I've only had one "not from my girlfriend/wife" massage in my life and it was at an expensive place downtown where I found religion. But I really, really needed a massage, and I'm currently in between money bins right now. I saw a sign that said $10 for 10 minutes. What's the worst that could happen? Paralysis, apparently, cannot be achieved solely by massaging a person's spinal cord via the small space between vertebrae. Even when the masseuse is a hefty middle aged fellow using his elbow and full body weight, the human body seems very adept at resisting complete loss of sensation and mobility in the lower body. (Excerpt from my new book entitled "My Spinal Cord and Me") There are at least twenty tables in there and a decent amount of space between them. No curtains are necessary, because you only take off your shoes. The massage began with a gentle back rub that made me think I'd wasted my money and escalated rather quickly to the "Bane-Batman" massage. There were no feelings of relaxation or pleasure. I really felt like I was being beat up. I was SO thankful when the timer went off. I jumped up and thought, "WELL THERE'S TEN DOLLARS WAST... Wait a minute. I can move my neck. My shoulders are loose. My back doesn't hurt anymore." I can't explain it. I don't know how he did it. I wasn't relaxed at all and didn't leave with the same state of euphoria that I normally get after a massage, but my back didn't hurt anymore so I'd say it was worth the ten bucks. read more

We have been going to Healthy Magic at the Wheaton Mall for several years now. We have never been disappointed! The massage therapists are professional, and do an awesome job on deep tissue. Their English is not the best, but it is really not needed. I have had a tremendous knot in my shoulder and after 30 minutes there today, it's gone! Really good massage from an Asian man. He totally got all of the kinks put of my shoulders. Massage is done fully clothed in a big room with other massage tables, clients and therapists. I still managed to fall asleep when he got to the reflexology foot massage. Would definitely go back. It was $55 and well worth it. I wish I hadn't wasted $90 getting a not very good massage while I was on vacation. This is a different type of massage than most western people are uses to. I think it's shiatsu or pressure point. But it was one of the best, with the best results. Funny the therapist kept telling me he was using his least pressure. But it felt like a LOT of pressure. The atmosphere is serene and there's some noise but not too bothersome on a week night with limited traffic. The prices are very reasonable at $10 for 10 mins, $20 for 20 mins and $30 for 30 mins for either the massage or detox foot reflexology. They also have bundle packages. I was really fatigued and sore prior to my massage and left feeling relaxed with all my kinks massaged out. I was pleased with the massage and the price. There was no wait. I was taken to the back immediately for my massage and they have a timer to ensure you get the entire time you request. The massuese actually extended to massage a little to properly finish. He wasn't too lighthanded OR rough, and hit some much-needed spots. The place itself is pretty standard mall setting, with the masseuses chatting and joking with each other in Chinese and a bit of mall background noise, but all I wanted was a no-frills rubdown for my sore and tense back and he really delivered, without making me feel like he was just trying to run out the clock. I have been going here irregularly for a few years but felt compelled to review them now because of my experience today. Beyond Sam giving me a fantastic massage with a lot of pressure (how I prefer it), he and the rest of the practitioners were very helpful with my newborn who would not fully cooperate. I had to go to the ER and was in a neck brace for 5 days on heavy medication. He completely strained my trapezeus muscle and damaged my rotator cuff. These people are unlicensed. DO NOT LET THEM CRACK YOU!! you will regret it. Be careful and remember that you are only paying $30 for a reason. These people have no training or professional background. I have been a customer of Health Magic for years. This is their 3rd location in the mall that I know of. Yeah it is a little noisy outside, but once you are on the table you quickly forget about it. The massages are not your traditional spa massage with light touching strokes, they use accupressure. I love this place. If you have time, go for a full hour. Parking is a total wreck at this mall right now but the best hint is to park in the second floor of the deck near JCP. No appointments are necessary and I have never had to wait. read more

The massage was great but I had a bad experience about leaving my purse unattended. I had one hundred dollars cash in my purse. I separate the $30 for the massage and left a bill of 50 and a $20 in my purse. When the massage was done I move about to pay quickly so I got the 30 and paid and went home. When I checked my purse at home, the bill of 50 and the bill of 20 were gone. I came back and requested to talk to the manager to see if someone found or took my money. The manager listened to me but he denied that someone in his store my did something like that. Big mistake taking cash to a place like that. Be careful. I have been a customer of this place for a couple years. The massages are good but customer service is not so good. They give you a card and you can get your 10th massage free with 9 paid massages. Today I got my 10th massage which should have been free, but they forced me to pay anyway. I had a total of 9 paid massages, but they were not all on the same card. Even after I showed the man all my cards with the 9 paid massages, he refused to let me leave until I paid full price. He kept saying "total no free, total no free" and pushed all my cards back at me across the counter, which I took to mean that they would not honor the "10th massage free" deal unless you had all 9 of your paid massages recorded on the same card. Nowhere does it say on their policies that you have to have the 9 paid massages recorded on the same card. The man was completely unfriendly and unapologetic about forcing me to pay. To avoid having an incident with mall security and/or police, I paid the full fee. But I am also going to file a chargeback with my credit card company. This was absolutely inexcusable. This man just ripped me off, plain and simple. I will not be going back. read more
