Mom and I left the hospital and we were heading back to her house when we decided to get a Head West sub. I don't live here and have only had their subs once or twice, so I grabbed a menu and the guy working (I wish I would have gotten his name!) explained the menu, the bread options, and which's subs were their most popular and how they came dressed. We split the number 8 on their sweet bread and swapped out provolone for cheddar and got no raw onions and no Italian dressing. I added banana peppers to mine and mom added olives to hers. We then get it hot which sends it down the sandwich warmer machine for 4-5 minutes The sweet bread was so fresh and just sweet enough to where the sandwich was still savory. Perfect ratio of bread to meat to veggies to cheese and Mayo. I will make sure to have another sub at Head West before I leave! read more

We have been going to head west for a while. It seems as though this store is constantly having issues. Workers are not happy to be working and very snippy when asked about why ice doesnt come out of the ice machine or the computer software in their point of sale machine is having troubles.(location only). Understand when things break. Its just that we have been coming here for last 3 months and it seems it never gets fixed. Sandwhiched are good. But, just need to be more customer satisfaction orientated. Every job is stressful. But, no need to overreact. So the customer doesnt have to walk on pins and needles. Ownership needs to step in and resolve some of the issues with equipment. read more

Sandwich was great, toasted, delicious and good ingredients! However, the experience overall lacked. Service was inattentive and they just weren't focused on the customers or the experience. Nobody greeted us, nobody smiled or was friendly. They were serviceable, but definitely focused on just making the sandwich, not helping us. It was my first time, and although the handwritten signs told me where to order and pay, that was about all the directions we got. There was some inconsistency, and I just generally didn't feel confident that what I ordered would come out. I wanted to add toppings, and wasn't sure when that would happen. My sandwich went in first, and when my husband ordered next, his person asked him what toppings he wanted before it went in. Then they started wrapping things up and I had to ask twice to add extra ingredients. The soda machine also didn't have most of the drinks, which was disappointing. I asked to refund my drink since the lemonade, root beer and diet options were all out. They switched out my cup for a tea, which I appreciated. However, I had to wait at the counter, where both employees made eye contact with me, and did nothing. Basically, a few systems and some training could turn this place from a great sandwich with no environment, to a destination sandwich shop. This is my second time at this location. Came in there were about 6 people in line ahead of myself and two others. David was serving then like a champ. Super efficient and polite. Love this place! Staff super friendly and nice. The sandwich (Italian on sweet bread) was the bomb diggity! And it was huge and messy and chocked full of sub sandwich goodness. They definitely don't skimp on the meat or condiments. I ordered the whole sub which I thought was little pricey, just shy of $9 but now I know why, it's huge and two people could split one sub. Next time I will go with the half sub. Ask for extra napkins cause it's messy but in a really good way. Will definitely return. read more

Pulling up to the sandwich shop with an empty parking lot made me nervous. We were in Springfield for the weekend and a friend raved about the sandwiches. She was right... I got the Italian, and it was delicious. What she failed to mention; The employees are all hippies, they weren't stoned... but they were looking forward to getting off work to toke up. The empty tables had crumbs all over them. A prospective employee was there for a 3 o'clock interview and she was told there was no one there to interview her. The soda machine had no ice, and when I notified the staff I was informed that they were out. It is sad that an investor sunk money into a good product line that will be destroyed by poor management. This is my new favorite HW location! They never run out of veggie meats like the other locations sometimes do :) The veggie ham is my go-to, but sometimes I switch it up and do the veggie turkey instead. The service is great at this location and I've had quite a few good conversations with the employees while they're making my sandwich. I'm not lying when I say I could eat one of their sandwiches every day! I never get sick of them. Husband alternates between the chicken bacon ranch and the turkey & provolone with BBQ. Sometimes he adds more BBQ when he gets home, but that's probably just because he's weird and not because there's not enough sauce. read more

I walked there today on my 30 minute lunch break in the rain (luckily had an umbrella) because my 5 month pregnant self was absolutely craving their soup, so totally worth it. I walk in and immediately realize I don't have a mask in my purse... the guy at the counter instantly asks if I have a mask... I replied with "I do not I'm sorry, so you have one I can have?" He rudely replies nope and then just kind of stares at me.... mind you this is in front of the customers, so not only was it embarrassing but i finally asked said " okay, should I leave" he responded with "yep, it's posted right on the door" I understand it was my mistake for leaving my mask... but I could of went without the rudeness. so here I am starving bc apparently there were no solutions to my problem. Love Head West subs but this location is dragging down the brand. They did away with their own delivery staff shortly after Covid hit and I chose not to spend $4.99 to have an $8 sandwich delivered by Door Dash. About two months ago (late Oct or Nov) I caved and ordered online for pickup, drove the five blocks to this location then stood for 20 minutes with my order sitting by the register while the man at the register ignored me. Didn't buy again until now (Jan), ordered for delivery and received a small, skinny sandwich that wasn't what I ordered. Should have been a hot sandwich with Italian dressing but got a hot sandwich with Italian dressing over hot mayo. It smelled like when a garbage truck drives by. I used the "Contact Us" on the website but wasn't granted the courtesy of a reply. Pitched the sandwich and deleted the Head West bookmark from my computer as this is their only location that will deliver to my address. Strongly recommend hitting up another Head West location as the subs are usually great. read more

The woman on the phone didn't tell me that Door Dash does their delivery so I ordered. She gave me an approximate arrival time of 12:30, as I requested because I ordered an hour early so it would be there on my lunch hour. It didn't show up until 1:40pm! Over an hour late and after my lunch break was over! I've always had terrible experiences with Door Dash delivery times and would never have ordered knowing that's how it is being ordered. Bad customer service from the delivery and the business. Will NEVER get delivery again and unlikely to visit business again despite liking the food most of the time. read more

This is one of the best sandwiches I have had. I don't even live in Springfield, but visit occasionally on buisiness. This is the only spot I stop for lunch now. Guys in there are very friendly. Very nice selection of sandwiches and toppings. Sweet bread is the bomb, and they don't ever short you on meat, or whatever you choose! I highly suggest giving it a try. read more

If I could give zero stars, I would after today. I called in an order as we all have to do now days and I was told 25 min. I arrive and was told sorry were backed up it will be another 15 minutes. Very understanding for this time with Covid-19 and all. However I waited 30 minutes for someone to finally come outside and ask me the name of my order once I gave it to him, he informed me the order is ready. Thinking I see the light at the end of the tunnel I was wrong. I waited another 15 minutes before finally put on a mask and getting out of my car and going in. At this time I was furious with the wait and fuming. He told me go out side and wait I cant be in the building. So I walked out and waited. Most ridiculous service. I waited for 17 minutes to have some one take my order. Three people And one delivery driver working only one knew what they were doing. When it was my turn the only one, a lady a manager type, took the phone call rather than my order. I had waited for 17 minutes was not going to wait any more. No sense of complaining to management. Not only are the subs made to order but the staff (Dave) gave great suggestions to make the already good sub tastier. This location serves beer too! My husband and I love most all the subs in the menu-our favorites include the holiday season sub with veggie turkey (they usually use regular turkey) and the griller (veggie burger) sub. read more

I have eaten at a handful of Headwests, and 6th Street is by far the worst one. I always get a BLT with extra bacon, and 6th Street put less bacon than a regular BLT at other locations. They also did not put any mayo on it, which on the menu says the BLT comes with mayo, and I stated that I wanted everything on it.. Very unimpressed with this location. Others have been great on the other hand. read more
