Lots of Yelpers agree, HD Cuisine is seriously good and I'm here to give probably the 100th thumbs up to agree with this. While the Chinese food here is pretty good, you need to try the non-Chinese items which in my opinion is the true specialty here that gives you the best flavor. Make sure to try the mango sauce Shrimp which has a great balance of sweet and savory, with about the right amount of acid to give a little of bite. The penang char koay teow has a nice umami with the searing of the soy sauce and egg combined with nice and bouncy rice noodles. The nasi lemak is worth it for the delicious chicken rendang. You can really taste the star anise, cardamom, lemongrass, and coconut milk which provide a restrained spiciness with a very full bodied flavor and very tender chicken. If you need some vegetables, the gailan is cooked nice and tender with a strong flavor of garlic that infuses itself well into the leaves. The chef-made pork belly is nicely roasted and simply flavored with bean sauce, supported by leeks, carrots, and onion that give it a nice earthy flavor. Though it could probably be a little more tender, I didn't mind the firmness that matched well with the firm tofu. Overall, come here if you want to experience amazing flavors of South-east Asia. They do a great job of providing lots of options you don't find in other local restaurants which give you the ability to try something new and exciting. read more

They serve everything from Malaysia, to Chinese to Americanized flavors. We got the pho and chicken pad Thai. They mostly serve carry-out but have a small area for dine-in. We ate in the restaurant. The chicken pad Thai was sweet and crunchy. The pho had large pieces of beef and meatballs. The pho was aromatic with fresh bean sprouts and basil. The owner came out and talked with us. She was very nice and sweet. I love being able to support this family owned and staffed restaurant. I highly recommend HD Cuisine. I can't wait to go back and try more items on the menu. read more

Ever since our Singapore trip a few years back, my wife and I always had that region's cuisine on the mind. We've been to Kapitan in the city, but there aren't many places that offer it. After a birthday party in the burbs at Chuck E. Cheese (that had surprisingly good wings), we wanted to grab a bite before heading back to the city. Yelp brought up this place with perfect ratings, and I was super excited to discover HD meant Hawker Delights. It's a bit small inside, but I did see they had a high chair in the back that they brought out for our baby. We ordered the beef satay, cumin lamb, and poached Hainanese chicken. The satay came out first with a chunky peanut sauce and was perfectly tender and a great starter. The lamb was spicier than we expected but we loved it - the vegetables were all crisp and not overcooked, while the lamb still had great flavor through the heat. The chicken came in a huge serving with chicken flavored rice and even the white meat parts were still juicy. If we lived nearby I could easily see this being a go-to place for us, but for now it'll still be a place we keep on our radar whenever we drive out. Definitely a must visit even if you're not super familiar with southeast Asian food. read more

It begins with the owner - a true representation of Malaysian hospitality! We went on a weekday where it wasnt busy and ordered 4 dishes for 4 people. We ordered Char Koay Teow, Nasi Lemak, char ho fun, and curry mee. My Gosh! Can I tell you how authentic this was? We also ordered Kuih Lapis for desert and the owner was so thoughtful to already cut it into 4 pieces as we only ordered 2! There was not a person in our party that was disappointed. Finally got to try this place and I was blown away. Authentic south East Asian food. Everything is super fresh and reasonably priced. The staff there are super nice and made good recommendations. Make sure to check out the specials listed on the wall! We enjoyed every dish we ordered - so tasty. The dessert (black rice topped with coconut milk cream) is so refreshing and not overly sweet. The place is pretty small - they only have a four person table and a two person one. So if you plan to dine in, make sure you call to check or reserve. Would definitely come back! Came for carry out on a Sunday late afternoon. The order was relatively easy to order. We ordered a handful of different dishes. The beef satay, Penang char Kong teow, Malaysian chicken curry, pad thai with chicken, penang curry mee The beef satay was flavorful and incredibly tender. It also came with a dipping sauce, though the beef was quite good on its own. The penang char Kong teow was good and had the Chinese sausage in it along with shrimp. The Malaysian chicken curry had a lot of deep flavors. The chicken was very flavorful and the curry flavor like soaked into it. The pad thai was just okay, not a whole lot of flavor, so maybe best to stick to the Malaysian items here. The penang curry mee was good, different type of curry taste than the curry chicken. It had 2 different types of noodles and some other things in it. Spicy too. The penang hokkien mee was really good too, another noodle soup type dish with its own set of flavors. If definitely had a seafood flavor, not just fishy but seafood. There was also 2 types of noodles for this. The portions are quite decent here as well, the noodle soups were a full sized to go container of the soup portion, more than enough for 1 individual. HD cuisine is a family owned hole in the wall Malaysian restaurant in Wheeling. One of the few Malaysian restaurants on the area, I was really excited to try this place. The interior is small with not much seating area, however the service is very friendly. Our waiter explained each of the dishes and was very thoughtful. The nasi lemak was amazing and great value. I wasn't a huge fan of the Murtabak or the Ayam Masak Merah, which is why I gave them 4 stars. The Ayam Masak Merah had an overpowering tomato-ey taste and tasted a little artificial, as if it had too much paste in it. Would not recommend that dish. What a hole in the wall gem located in a strip mall under unforgiving florescent lighting with a couple crowded tables & folding chairs. We took the recommendations of the chefs son & brother and so happy we did! You taste their love of cooking and their corner of the world in each of the dishes. Yelp's overall 5- rating is misleading. They are about 174 total reviews; although most of them are 5 stars there are enough lower ratings for the average rating to be not 5. It seems like Yelp employs some form of algorithmic 'fu ' like Amazon to influence the overall ratings. Now on to the review.. Although the restaurant was 20 some miles from where we live, we decided to drive because of the phenomenal five star Yelp rating. Upon arrival, we noticed that the restaurant was exceptionally tiny. The hospitality and the welcome when we arrived was nice. It gave us the warm and fuzzy about eating at family style restaurant. We were accommodated on the edge of the restaurant which was the entry to the kitchen. In all honesty, the food was decent but not remarkable. What I really disliked was the fact that when we got the check they had already added 18% gratuity for a party of three. I believe that gratuity should not be forced and should be earned. In summary, I would've given this restaurant a rating of 3 1/2 star based on the food but because of the forced gratuity, it is a two star experience for me. read more

I tried HD Cuisine when I was in the area after golf and was craving for Malaysian food. Decided to go by myself instead of coming over with a few buddies of mine because as I've seen in the pictures, the place is rather small to accommodate a group of 12 golfers. I ordered take out (about 5 dishes to share with my wife) and I had to wait 50 minutes to get my order. Must've been a bad kitchen day to take that long to get my order as there were only 8 people eating in (5 already had their food) & 3 ordered their food just after I placed my order. We returned here to try out a carryout dinner for 3.  We ordered 4 items including Assam laksa which is a renowned and popular Malaysian dish we have never had before. - Indian Murtabak pancake, $8.50 - Penang Char Koay Teow, $10.95 - Malaysian style chicken curry, $12.95 - Assam laksa, $14.95 I would say all were worth trying from this authentic eatery, but would also say we had 2 hits and 2 misses here.  All of the dishes had that delectable and uniquely Malaysian/Indian/Singaporean curry like fragrance.  The pancakes came with a thick lentil-like sauce and were delicious and I would order again.  The char koay teow (pork sausage and shrimp with rice noodles) was a reliable favorite and I would say a recommended must-order dish.  The chicken curry was frankly disappointing - 4 bony chicken pieces and 4 potato pieces in a brown light curry sauce.  The taste was ok, but it was pretty homey and ordinary for the price.  The Assam laksa  - well, we can say we've tried it, and it's in the acquired taste category as far as all of us were concerned, ha.  FYI - if you want to try it, it's not on the menu and they like to have a 1 to 2 day notice for your order.  Laksa is a noodles and veggies dish in a fish broth.  But it was very fishy, very pungent, and sour.  I'm not sure I'll ever order laksa again and I'll probably wonder forevermore if it was a typical Assam laksa preparation, but I give myself an A for diversity effort anyway, ha. Second time I've tried Malaysian, but there's something about it that just makes me gag! I literally can't eat it and this place is the same sadly. Personally I didn't like the quality of the ingredients or food itself. The short ribs meat didn't seem thoroughly cooked, and the other food just didn't do it for me. I will say some of the workers are very nice and engage in nice conversation, while some just do their job which is fine. Really tender and flavorful hainan chicken where they serve with fresh grated ginger. The rice was so delicious as it's cooked with the chicken. Nasi lemak was spicy and the rice is flavored and colored with butterfly peas. Had the pork broth which was very delicious and served with rice topped with fries shallot and the fried dough. I placed a very large order. I wanted to try all the highly recommended meals. This restaurant is everything and more. You walk into a small storefront...the prettiest young girl you've ever seen smiles and asks you how she can help you. There were a few people sitting at a small table; you get the sense this is a family effort running this restaurant. 4 large bags of food and big smiles from everyone, as they helped me out the door. A mix of soups, rices and noodle meals I had ordered and a delicious special dessert. Everything was fresh tasting, clean food...surely had that homemade street fare style. The star of the show was the Penang char kway teow - the best I've eaten outside Penang. The wok hei was so good I could cry. Aunty Lin who runs this cute little Malaysian restaurant family business was so endearing and knew every customer that walked in. Went to this restaurant for the first time yesterday with the intention of getting Singapore Noodles. At the door I saw a couple Specials listed and decided to go with one of them-- lamb stir fry with veg and ginger. The food was ready fairly quickly and off I went. My goodness! What a delicious dish it was. The lamb was so tender and everything was seasoned perfectly. Many others have already described the large portions and they are not joking-- there is plenty for another meal. The folks working in the restaurant are very friendly and I think you would find it easy to ask questions about the food since there are many things on the menu that are new to us. Finally! Malaysian Chinese just open near around wheeling! I saw it on Facebook and drove there to try it. The portion is pretty large and also shareable! I ordered Penang Curry Mee, if you like spicy please order spicy( medium level) the portion is big enough. Must to try: Penang Char koay teaw - the taste of smokey from the wok, shrimp, Chinese sausage, plus duck egg (+$1) Must try roti paratha with curry, the curry is thick and generous size. I think I will need 2 paratha. Chinese pancake is good but makes sure to eat right away or oven it when you order to go. They have beef and pork They just grand opening. It would be great if they have more choices in dessert as well. Like cendol or something sweet beside the smoothie. Please add more items as Nasi lemak, Bakut tea. Two Malaysian friends recommended this place even though it's pretty far out in the 'burbs. And since we've been looking for good chicken rice since we moved back from Singapore a few years back, we made the trek out there. It's a tiny place in a small strip mall. Seating is limited.
