My bangs definitely look a little weird right now, I'm gonna have to give them a few weeks. I do wish she had cut them heavier though, cause my bangs will take a lot of styling to get them to fall on my forehead the way I want them. My layers are still pretty uneven, one side is longer than the other. I wish she had been able to fix those too but again, like I said she was very green and Supercuts it's cheap, so I'll live. Eyebrows is where this young one excelled. Super gentle touch, precise, my brows look awesome! I got stubbornly aggressive hairs on my upper lip that cannot be gently coaxed into abandoning their domain and this gal struggled to wax me. She was too gentle, didn't pull hard enough or pull my skin taut. The wax kept peeling off me instead of ripping the hair out. She had to ask her boss to help. The problem is that the only part the boss waxed was the corners of my upper lip where my lady stache is at my Frida Kahloiest. They didn't wax my actual upper lip and I still have hair there. I couldn't tell at the time by looking cause the hair was slicked down but when I got home I could still pull the hair there. So #fail. I'm gonna have to bleach it. Will stick with getting threaded.

Augusto is a skilled professional who gives you the best of both worlds; vision for a cut that is…read moresuitable to you, and respect for your wishes. He manages to blend these two sometimes divergent factors to create a gorgeous and manageable look FOR ANYONE. Case in point; I first heard of Augusto when at a restaurant I saw a woman in her early 20's whose hair was so stunning and flattering I just had to ask who her stylist was. She mentioned Augusto. Still leery of venturing out (what if this girls hair was a one-off? What if he gave the same exact haircut to every girl regardless of any other factor? What if my unruly hair is too much for this virtuoso to handle?) I did not call or make an appointment, just a mental note. Then, some time later, I met a woman in her mid 50's who had a completely different but equally flattering look. She happened to volunteer in conversation that she was a long time devotee of this Augusto that was recommended to me before. What? This as-yet-unknown-to-me man was able to cut two completely different hair styles for two completely different lengths and types of hair on women from two completely different generations, and pull off a striking look for both?? I was sold! As someone who knows relatively little about hair I am able to give him a very vague idea of what I have in mind and he inevitably will come up with something simply PERFECT. I have very thick, wavy, course hair which I have been told is a challenge to cut. Well, I know from personal experience that it is definitely a challenge to style!! Augusto changes all that. Every time I leave his chair I manage to feel gorgeous, with a cut that I am very happy with. Apparently I don't only feel gorgeous but also look that way, because I have been so many times complimented on my hair I have had to recommend so many people. Better still, I can always style the cut easily!! It's only a bonus that Augusto, through his professionalism and charisma, manages to make a friend of every client. He is friendly in a very unobtrusive way. Several very fun and interesting people wander into his shop, some of them for their hair appointment and others simply to stop by and say hello to Augusto and all of his guests. He will take his time on your hair and his painstaking attention to detail is seen in the results. You may have to wait a few moments, but it is one hundred percent worth it. I don't mind waiting as I know when the scissors hit my hair, the job will never be rushed. With my hair type, to be able to find a stylist who listens to your preferences, is able to find a cut that is very flattering for you within your desires, and makes it manageable for a novice to recreate at home on a daily basis, has proved a lifelong impossibility until now. As such, I hadn't gotten my hair cut in months (like, 8 months) prior to this appointment. I got my hair cut with Candace, and she looked at my hair dry and asked me around where I wanted it to hit afterwards, which I really appreciated with curls. She was able to blow dry it straight afterwards, and I was scared it was going to be too short once it dried curly. BUT, I was pleasantly surprised! I was there 20 minutes tops and wasn't shown the back with a mirror, and when I got home and looked with my own mirror, I found the cut was uneven, angled, and longer at the front. Sure it looked nice after being blow dried, and I typically play around with my hair afterwards to to be sure the cut flows nicely, but I felt uncomfortably rushed with her standing at the register waiting for me. I see one other lucky soul is blessed with curly hair in this oh so humid city... and she has found Chris! I've been a client of his for several years now and after others have created anywhere from mullets to pyramids on my head, I wouldn't trust anyone else with my locks except Chris. Most stylists can make your hair look beautiful in the salon, then you wash it once and you can never get it to look the same again, while instead, Chris makes it look beautiful initially and I always know it will look good for a long time thereafter. I've gotten to the point that I trust him to make it look nice, so depending on if I'm feeling conservative (long hair for the fall) or a little funky (I went from blonde to short dark red last winter), it always turns out nice. I've recommended him to numerous friends, he's wonderful! read more

I've been going to Chris at HC Studio for 5 years. He is the best hairstylist that I've found in the city. I have curly hair and he cuts it so I can wear it curly or straight. He is very honest and creates a style that works for you. I was also very lucky to have Chris do my hair for my wedding day. I'm still getting compliments from my friends on the amazing job he did. He took the time starting months out to work the right color and style in to my hair for the big day. It was just amazing! HC studio is in a great location right off the D line or bus lines. The studio is awesome in itself, great decor. Every time I'm there they have new works of art. The staff is very friendly and accommodating (love having a cup of tea while I'm there). This salon is a find and, specifically, the colorist ANDRE is the best I've ever found after many years of having color. I've gone to the most well known salons and I've never never had such consistently excellent results. Too often colorists slap on whatever has seemed to work before with an almost 'ho-hum' attitude. ANDRE focuses on my hair every time I come to assess if the color needs a tweak here or an added nuance there. Since coming to him I have learned that I can get color that I'm ALWAYS getting compliments on and not just sometimes. btw the T is across the street for easy access..or parking is always available. read more

NEW LOCATION, NEW NAME, SAME GREAT PEOPLE!…read more I've been getting my hair cut here since ~2001 (guy), so of course I followed them to their brand new digs. No longer called "MK Hair Studio", they are now "Studio 3" (because it used to be an event space for the restaurant next door). It is a much bigger, quite attractive salon space now. Easy to find, just look for the giant Julia Child mural on a Monolith out front on the sidewalk of Broad Canal Way, just down from Cafe Luna on the same side of the street. You may see a sidewalk sign on the corner directing you to another business, but that is a barber shop of the other side of the street (don't go there lol!). Your GPS may give the wrong location for the salon, so just remember it is on the first block of Broad Canal Way, just past where it runs into 3rd Street (again, look for Cafe Luna on the corner and then Julia Child). As far as parking, not quite as good a deal as the old OKS location (that was $5 for $35 3 hour parking), they now charge $10 for 4 hours parking which would normally cost at least $32 (I stayed less than 3, so can't confirm the time limit and they didn't seem 100% sure). Which is nice if you also want to get lunch at Shy Bird nearby (excellent fried chicken sandwiches and smash burgers). No chaser tickets now, they validate via computer at the end of your appointment The parking lot is the "350 Kendall Garage", but don't use that in your GPS. Entering 302 Kendall St, Cambridge, MA 02142 in Apple Maps gives me the actual entrance to the spacious underground garage which is behind Studio 3 on the next street over intersecting with 3rd St (so come down 3rd and turn on Kendall St and it will be on your right). You'll then have to walk a couple of blocks to get to Studio 3. There is some confusing construction, so pull a map up on your smartphone. When you enter the garage building on the way out, bypass the ground floor office and put your validated ticket into the machine next to the office and pay by credit card. ***The trick I learned is to remove your credit card very slowly, or it won't take it.***

The decor is simple and yet fun with knick knacks or trinkets in small spaces and yet a vintage yet modern decor theme. Everyone was very friendly and even partook in open positive and funny conversations, which lightened up the space and made it welcoming. Quality & Service: I had my first appointment here with Lauren - I was beyond nervous with dry scalp, dead ends, and having had bad experiences in the past but she was so kind, gentle, and open to conversation (or not if you're more quiet like me) as well as was awesome with giving tips and tricks. It took me less than an hour for an evaluation of how/where my hair is at plus wash and cut. They worked with my budget in terms of being able to take off the blow dry portion to reduce the cost but still use a towel to scrunch the excess water out (since it's winter out an all) which was very considerate of her. Every step was asked for approval before and / or information on why she was taking certain steps would be given in advance, like if I needed the deep conditioner or whatnot, which I appreciated. I had trouble since I forgot my card but was able to pay via venmo and cash I had on hand- I was grateful they had a quick work around. Additional perks: Usually open after 5, quite a few stylists for your needs, whether a simple cut or cute and extreme coloring and styling. I will definitely be returning and have already made a follow-up appointment. I previously had single-process dark brown color applied to my natural hair at a salon, which I let wash out to a medium brown. I asked to go back to my natural color, to match my roots, slightly ashy dark blonde. I was looking to go from a level 6 to a level 8. My experience in the salon was good. My stylist was really personable, and seemed knowledgeable. I did everything recommended including a separate consultation beforehand. The issue was that, for some reason, the stylist had a harder time than expected lifting my hair. What was apparently supposed to be a single process with bleach turned into multiple, and my hair was not much lighter/extremely brassy. The stylist eventually gave up and threw toner in my hair, leaving my roots cool brown and my lengths/ends orangey-red colored. It looked absolutely horrible--I tried to tell myself it looked okay, even if it wasn't what I asked for, but it was god-awful. I tried hard to figure out how to discuss this with the kind stylist. Things completely fell apart at this point. The stylist was smiling and trying to convince me how good it looked, and even said "You'll be back by summer to go blonde!" ...this was really upsetting to hear, as I had come there and was paying a not-insignificant amount of money to do just that. When I went to pay, I was asked to pay close to double the agreed-upon consultation price because, I guess, the additional bleaching wasn't included in the price I was quoted. This wasn't discussed when the initial bleach process didn't reach the intended result, only when it came time to pay. I wasn't able to speak up about how terrible the result was when I had to argue just to pay the price that was set at the consultation. I left the salon in tears for the first time in my life and had to wait for a ride so that I didn't cause a scene crying on the T. It looked much worse. I looked much worse, honestly. I called back multiple times during business hours to ask if they would be willing to re-evaluate their work and discuss fixing it so it would at least be presentable, but no one answered. When I finally got someone on the phone, they completely shut me down and offered no resolution. Not even to dye over it with a dark color, or something. They stood by their stylist's skill and essentially called me a liar. I ended up having to fix it myself. I would not recommend this place or ever come back. I have attached a photo, you can see the difference in the roots vs the lightened hair. I added a photo of my appointment confirmations since the salon responded again saying I didn't come here.
