Scallop ( tasting menu Spring 2026)
Elizabeth R.

Great service from the staff, most notably, we really enjoyed chatting with the sommelier. Tried the tasting menu which gave us a good synopsis of the menu, which changes every so often given the focus on ingredients. If you can't make a decision on what to order, would highly suggest trying out the tasting menu. Ambience was pretty good here on a Saturday night. A good mix of all kinds of people. If coming here in the evening on a weekend would recommend elevating your outfit beyond business casual. All around a great experience.

Hawks is one of our favorite restaurants. Consistent, high quality food and service. Their menu changes often which I love because we can try new things but it always makes me sad when something I love is replaced at the same time, but that's part of the experience! The short rib Wagyu burger was SO juicy and flavorful! The Cesar salad had a punchy ceasar flavor but still creamy versus a vinaigrette and the short rib was fantastic as always. I wasn't a huge fan of their take on a red velvet cake , the cream cheese gelato was the best part but overall a fantastic meal. If you are looking for an upscale dining experience that is not downtown Sacramento this is your spot! Reservations highly recommended!!

Pine-apple mocktail

Been to this restaurant multiple times, and this last visit showed they're as great as always. This is probably one of the best elevated restaurants in the area. I got a pine-apple mocktail (sweet but still very drinkable) and the tagliarini entree. Since the rest of my party ordered a first course, I got a complimentary soup (in addition to the complimentary potato soup they serve in a skinny glass) from the chef so everyone is able to eat together. The entree was actually pretty filling despite the main protein just being some mushrooms (there was a pretty good amount of pasta despite the portion initially looking small because of it being neatly piled). They gave a complimentary sweet treat at the end of the meal (my party also added a couple of desserts to share, the pecan tart was smaller than I expected but still good). The sorbets have a wide selection of flavors too (we got the black currant flavor and the mango flavor). Would highly recommend this restaurant!

Delicious dinner to celebrate a special occasion. The service and food here is unmatched yet not pretentious. Well prepared, quality ingredients and service you won't forget.

Hawks is our favorite place to meet up for girls' night dinners, and it never disappoints. We shared several dishes so we could try a little of everything, and every plate impressed us. The green onion potato soup was rich and comforting, the gnocchi was deliciously tender, the pork chop was cooked perfectly, and the fish was fresh and flavorful. The cocktails were just as memorable--creative, unique, and absolutely delicious. Every drink felt thoughtfully made and added so much to the experience. What really makes it so special is the staff. Everyone is always so warm, friendly, and attentive, making us feel welcomed from the moment we arrive. Great food, amazing drinks, and wonderful service every time. A perfect spot for a fun girls' night out.

We went here on our anniversary. Hawks was so hyped up to us by friends and coworkers even since we moved into the area that we were really looking forward to it. Ambience was wonderful. Wait staff was pleasant and our server was amazing as well. We ordered the Chefs Tasting and for 165 per person this was really wonderful. They also have wine pairings but we opted out of it as we wanted to try other wines. Food presentation and taste was mind blowing. Staff was very attentive and we were well taken care of. Definitely something we will want to go back again and again.

Beautiful wall covering finishes and velvet banquet.

Finally I have found a restaurant in these parts that rivals the experience of fine Napa or Sonoma style dining. Other comparable places do exist here, however, Hawks is just one step above the others. We came here to celebrate a birthday and the entire experience was wonderful, start to finish. Atmosphere, service, food... everything is exceptional. It has a cozy high end country feel to it, well appointed and tastefully designed and decorated. Tables are nicely spaced for private conversation. There were quite a few children, surprisingly, yet not at all intrusive or bothersome. I suspect big scoops of ice cream helped. The reception staff were extremely cordial and friendly and we were seated immediately for our reservation time. Getting a nice cozy corner of the restaurant was perfect. The menu is varied and enough choices to satisfy most tastes, with even a burger. There's an extensive eight course tasting menu with wine pairing that looked amazing. It just was too much food for us this particular evening. Unlike my usual tap water we had a sparkling water from an English estate that was surprisingly refreshing. Much better than tap! A hearty and crispy edged bread and butter arrived immediately and was replenished as needed. There's a bread board and station right in the middle of the restaurant, with an intriguing crumb drawer, for convenience in serving it. I was amazed at the incredibly creative cocktail menu. Apparently it changes often. I tried the Cashew Me Outside, with coconut infused gin and OMG it was awesome. Light, frothy and not too sweet. A perfect spring into summer drink. There's an extensive wine menu with so many choices it's nearly mind-boggling, including my favorite Cab, a Shafer Hillside Select, but at the price point it wasn't going to happen. Plenty of other good choices. They brought an amuse bouche of a mushroom soup in a small glass that was simply tasty and so well made...a great way to start the menu. For starters I had the Asparagus Salad, also well made with a light dressed. The asparagus were thicker than I'd expect but ever so tender and perfectly grilled. I ordered the Duck Confit for my entree on cous cous and greens. The flavors, textures and taste were excellent. The duck was not overly greasy which is all too often the case with a dish like this one. It had plump cherries that complimented the dish so well. I was quite content. For dessert we had the Ukranian honey cake. It had strawberries and a sauce that was delicious with it, and a whipped cream. Quite good it was a very nice sweet finish to the meal. I had a espresso with it, double shot. A nice rounding out the meal. The portions and price point were right on tatget. Our primary waiter and the entire staff were exceptional. Professional, engaging and very much making for a top notch experience. The only glitch, and not a big one to take major issue, was I really wanted a glass of wine with my entree and couldn't get the wine list until more than half way done eating it. I did finally get a glass of Sauvignon Blanc pronto, so all was good. I have to say that the experience was so delightful and good that I definitely will be back.

Vegan custome-made dish; couscous, peas, asparagus, carrot

While the menu has minimal options that are vegan, our waiter Gregory was exceptionally knowledgeable and worked with the Chef to help tweak the menu as needed and ultimately recommended a custom vegan dish. Wonderful meal.

Lots of parking, which I really do appreciate. With a reservation, we were seated almost immediately. The whole restaurant itself is romantic and dimly lit. Though it got pretty busy in the evening, we definitely did not feel neglected at all. Our water was always refilled and the staff checked on us regularly (but not overly also, which I appreciated). Jackie was definitely the real MVP during our time here. She really went above and beyond and explained everything she brought out to us. As for the food, mostly everything tasted great. The pork cheeks were bit on the salty side in my opinion, but everything came out warm and plated perfectly. Though I enjoyed most items, some of my favorites were definitely the oysters, cod, wagyu, and dessert (warm butternut squash cake). This was our first time here and won't be our last.

Gnocchi with scallops

Greg provided exceptional service to my spouse and at our first time dining at Hawks to celebrate our 7 year wedding anniversary. We started the night with some incredible bourbon-based signature cocktails and shared the homemade gnocchi with scallops. The gnocchi was absolutely incredible, had so much flavor, and is a perfect fall appetizer. We also got to sample a complementary soup and were served warm fresh bread. For dinner I ordered a glass of Chardonnay with the Roasted Chicken as my main entree, it cooked to perfection with great sides of Brussels sprouts with bacon bits and potatoes. The night finished off with some beignets with Carmel dipping sauce. The ambience at Hawks is so upscale and romantic and we had such a wonderful time dining here. Will definitely be back and I recommend Hawks!

This is it for juice of a $36 Wagyu burger cooked medium rare. Not an appetizing pic but hopefully it gets the point across.

I sat at the bar which had one available seat. Since I was dining alone, it was perfect. It was a busy night as early as 5:30pm, and it was quite loud. I had a difficult time hearing anything on my phone as that's what I had for company. Not a big issue though as so many of us are on our phones too much anyways. The bartender gave me the beverage menu. I ordered a drink and a glass of water. The drink came pretty quickly but I had to ask again for water after waiting a bit. The seat I took at the bar had just been made available when two ladies got up to go to their table. The bartender never cleaned off the bar where I was sitting and took some time to remove the two used cocktail napkins that were left there. I ordered the truffle burger (medium rare) and fries. The burger is Wagyu beef. It was cooked pretty much to my specifications but it lacked juiciness. Wagyu should be juicier (especially medium rare) than regular ground beef because of the extensive marbling, but this one wasn't. It was actually pretty dry. There was hardly any juice on my plate. Granted, the bottom bun stayed intact because of that, but I was expecting more, especially since this plate was $36. That's an expensive burger and should live up to it. It fell short in my opinion. It did have what looked to be microplaned black truffles served in a tiny dish on the side to put on the burger, and the lettuce, pickles and onions were very fresh. It still didn't add up to a $36 burger. The fries were good but not exceptional. I've been to Hawk's many times and ordered other items from the menu. It's been better before, even the burger. They have always been consistently great. I'll take a pass on the burger from now on.

Been coming to Hawk for a long time--we used to come every other week. Food is always amazing and the service is even better. Shoutout to Michael and Shad for always taking care of us. Owner/manager needs to give them a raise!

This was for a birthday, so we picked a nice place like Hawks which was in our Yelp Collection list for years now. We got sat 15 minutes before our appointment time. It was a slow Monday night after all according to our server. I wanted to get the $165 tasting menu but the whole table had to be on it so we deferred. Libations: 1. Smok'em if you Got'em (cinammon smoked old fashioned) 2. Sunrise Spritz (low ABV aperol spritz) Victuals: 1. Amuse-Bouche. Non Alcoholic Eggnog 2. Purée of Butternut Squash Soup (and a complimentary mini bowl for my wife) with roasted hazelnuts and cilantro crema. 3. Liberty Duck Confit with chestnut farrotto and sweet Amagaki persimmons. 4. Slow Roasted Short Rib with fried Maitake mushrooms. 5. Steamed Lemon Pudding with Marcona streusel 6. Warm Brioche Beignets with salted caramel dip We had complimentary sourdough & butter for our bread service and holiday themed sweet treats (papaya gummies and chocolate brickles) to end our meal. Definitely not a "weekend's get out of the house meal". Service was very attentive and our server was super nice. Ambiance was dimly lit and decor was superb. Definitely a recommendation for an upscale meal when in the Roseville/Folsom area.

Thus cheered, we were seated quickly, even though we arrived without a reservation. Water, bread and menus came quickly. Perusing them to the background mix of contemporary mellow pop (think James Taylor and Van Morrison) and old standards, we decided on the petite prime rib for the carnivore (me) and sea scallops served over risotto for my wife. We each chose flights of wine to accompany our entrees. Despite including three wines per flight, the pours were fairly generous. Our dishes were perfectly prepared and came out more quickly than we expected, considering that the place was almost full. Our server checked back just enough and took care of any special requests promptly, even offering to exchange one of the wines (out of six!) that we didn't like for something better suited to our taste. The pace was leisurely which was fine given the good food and wine accompanied by the relaxed vibe of the live music. And the prices were quite reasonable given the quality of both the food and service. A dark-ish old school atmosphere added to its charm for us Baby Boomers, but even younger diners seemed to be enjoying themselves. As for us, we highly recommend it!

This is my very second comment on Yelp. My first comment was writing with the appreciation of…read moredelicious food and nice people, but this one, in contrast, is because I am deeply disappointed. I came here for dinner with my cousin and two friends. We are four young Asian women, and our experience with the service was extremely uncomfortable and disappointing. From the moment we walked in, the attitude we received felt cold, dismissive, and racially biased. When I first said "4 for dining," the waitress did not acknowledge me properly or even look at me. She told us they only had bar-area dining and did not accept walk-ins, but the way she spoke to us was completely emotionless and dismissive. What made it stand out even more was that we had just seen her being very warm and friendly toward an older white male guest, then immediately switching to an "absolute zero" expression when interacting with us. I was speaking Mandarin with my friends while we waited, because that is part of our culture and how we naturally communicate with each other. When I spoke English to the waitress and said we were fine sitting near the bar area, she rolled her eyes. That made us feel judged for speaking Mandarin and deeply unwelcome. Later, when my cousin explained to another waitress that there were no four seats together in the bar area and that we wanted to sit together, that waitress responded with a very exaggerated "Pardon?" even though my cousin spoke clearly. My cousin grew up in Michigan and speaks fluent English. The tone and facial expression made it feel like she was mocking her accent, and she also rolled her eyes. I was born in Las Vegas and raised in Orange County. My cousin, our friends, and I speak Mandarin with each other because we love and embrace our culture. We chose this restaurant because I had previously eaten at another Ruth's Chris in Reno, Nevada, where the food was excellent and the staff were genuinely kind. That is why this visit was especially shocking and disappointing. I do not like "playing the race card," and I do not make accusations like this lightly. But this interaction made all four of us feel singled out, disrespected, and unwelcome. Whether the staff intended it or not, the way we were treated came across as racially biased and completely unacceptable for a restaurant at this price point. For a steakhouse that presents itself as upscale and professional, this level of service was embarrassing. We left feeling offended, disappointed, and honestly shocked. I would not recommend this location to anyone who expects respectful and equal treatment.
