Jessica Valentine and her partner Cameron are legit nice and authentic people- you get what you get (see what I did there lol). I can tell this, not by how they treated me (which was with huge smiles and open hearts), but in how they treat each other- there is genuine mutual love and respect with the way the talk with each other and not at each other. I think this is why the vibe of the shop is welcoming and warm. The shop is cute AF. It's pink and girlie (for me) and as a tomboy, I absolutely loved every square inch of it. There's water and snacks and moon time supplies oh my. There are different tarot decks to keep yourself occupied if you are waiting. I had two separate appointments scheduled- one for a micro on 4/15 and one for a "Get What You Get" in January 2023 (she's a busy bee). She had a cancellation for a GWYG time slot and I said hell yeah. She was gracious to do both of my tats in one appointment so I didn't have to make an extra trip which was helpful for me. SPOILER ALERT- getting a tattoo hurts. I have a high tolerance for pain so I was fine, but she checked in on me throughout the process to ensure I was comfortable and asked me if I needed a break. Overall, I give Haven and Jes and Cameron 10 10 10's across the board. I will definitely be back for another GWYG, but also there are some originals I would like as well. I have close to 20 tattoos all done by different tattooers because I had yet to find someone I want consistent work by. Enter Jessica Valentine and Haven Studio. I have found my person. Jes did my first tattoo at Nice Tattoo. She was so nice and genuinely cared about my experience. When I wanted to get my second tattoo I found out Jes had left Nice Tattoo. Because Jes was so amazing and her line work is beautiful I found her at her own private studio Haven. Jes has now done 3/5 of my tattoos and every time it is an amazing experience. I've truly never had a better experience at a tattoo salon that I had at Haven Studio. The second I walked through the door, the energy was so calm and welcoming. Jes was so kind and did everything to make me feel comfortable and feel at home. Overall: an amazing tattoo studio!! I was tattooed by Jess and had the honor of chatting with both her and Cameron. They are two of the most lovely people I have ever met, and they put me so at ease! The studio is cute, cozy, and comfortable, and very inviting. They have anything you could want or need to feel your best. The COVID-19 precautions are great and as a immunocompromised person I felt very comfortable, while everything still felt reasonable as well. I absolutely loved my tattoo, Jess has such a light hand and I ended up with a beautiful tattoo that was intricate and detailed despite being quick and painless. It's been several months and my tattoo is still in great shape. Jess is so talented at making ideas and words come to life in a stencil and on the body! So I booked an appointment with Jes last month. I stopped drinking a year ago and Jes and Kate's podcast, the Seltzer Squad Podcast, really helped me out. So my wife and I decided that if I made it a year we would take a trip from CA to NYC to get a small piece from Jes to commemorate the accomplishment. Two weeks before we were going to fly out, Jes sent me an email canceling my appointment and said she was going to be out of town, but she would reach back out when she knew her availability. Needless to say, I was disappointed but it is what it is. I mentioned we would only be in town for two days and if there was any chance we could do it the day before, that would still work because of our travel schedule. I never heard back and she ghosted me. A few days later I went on social media and found that she had blocked me. Now, I don't know Jes and never had a chance to speak with her, but this felt very personal and extremely unprofessional. I ended up finding a spot across the bridge in Greenwich Village that did a great job and I got my tattoo after all. I wish Jes would have been more professional, it also really turned me off of listening to their show. It was such a big help to me and she ended up not being the person I thought she was. Everything about Haven feels like the room of my ultimate teenage dreams, and Jes is such a wonderful, talented artist whose style embodies everything I could ever want in a tattoo. She puts so much love and detail into every single piece she creates, and makes me feel so comfortable during the process---whether she's checking to see how everything is feeling, or we're talking with Cam and Vanessa (who, on my last visit, made me want one of her gorgeous ear tattoos) about reality TV. I loved the first tattoo she did on my arm so much, that I was back a month later to get a new design I had been wanting, and I've already recommended her to so many of my friends who are into her style. Best tattoo artist! Jes was super flexible, open and supportive for my first tattoo. It was on my upper back, so I sat in the chair leaning forward. It wasn't painful, exactly, but it's a tattoo. I started to feel light headed and alerted her right away and she stopped and knew exactly what to do! I was super embarrassed and Jes, and her staff, were amazing. They let me know that this is actually common, gave me some juice, a washcloth, etc. They just took over! I just needed a break. I did actually pass out, but since I was already in the chair, they just stabilized me a little more and I was fine. Once ready, we moved to the table so I could lie down and we started again and it was totally fine! I'm still kinda mortified that it happened, but they weren't concerned at all. I knew she had an appt. after, but it wasn't an issue at all. And if you haven't gotten a tattoo before, don't let this scare you off. I didn't pass out b/c it was so painful, but b/c I was a little more tense than usual and just not prepared. I did eat a proper breakfast and was hydrated, but that helped. Next time, I'll def see Jes again and she will know and I'll just use the table. And I LOVE my tattoo! read more
