Had my second tattoo done by Lynn Hoang and she is unbelievable as a professional tattoo artist and I would say she is one of the best in the business. I have seen her work on Instagram and so I was not surprised by the quality of art that she is capable of. But when my piece was finalized, I was mind blown and speechless at the level of art that she was able to create. She was able to take the ideas I had and elevate it to a whole new level. She truly is a professional, never rushed and took her time with the smallest detail and I can't thank her enough for this master piece that she had created. On top of all that she showed great hospitality and was very accommodating. This was definitely worth every dollar I had spend and I look forward to more projects with Lynn in the future. It may be a little early for a review but I have plans to come back and get a tattoo that invokes the reason why I came to planet earth. This tat can only be completed by one of the best tattoo artist who uses vision to describe her work of art. And believes that the future is in her hands. I have some ideas that I want to share with my tattoo artist known as X. The shop is located in a quaint side of Brooklyn that surrounded by other professional workspaces. As i visited this location I could clearly see the difference in lost shops and how this one is laid out. It has an open floor plan which relieves the customer of that claustrophobic feeling with plastered walls and loose fitting curtains. It is very clean, well lit from natural light with at least 3 stations for tattooing. I met Luis who is an amazing artist from Venezuela. His work can be found on the web. One of their new artist is mine. She goes by the nickname X- she was working at the Hawaii location and just relocated to Brooklyn. Her work and journey to the tattoo industry is phenomenal! i don't even know where to start with this, like i have been wanting to get a half sleeve and i was scrolling through instagram and i stumbled upon Lynn's IG and i immediately loved her work. i submitted my ( i don't know the term ) but i got an answer in a very timely manner and the person helped me booked the appointment in the least painful way. i did shop around but i decided on Lynn and i do not regret it. just from the first day i was running late and she was still understanding that i was coming from out of state to get this done. she took the time to go over my designed and showed me some of her ideas and i immediately feel in love with her idea. her design brought to life what i wanted. during the two 9 hour session she only stopped whenever i needed a break other then that she kept going and checking up on me not using all the time we had since i had a hard stop on the last day because i had to catch a bus home. the beautiful thing is she finished but she wanted to keep going and it really showed me that she really does loves her craft i am 100% for sure coming back to turn this half sleeve into a full. i can't wait for their SOHO location since its so close to the hotel i usually stay at. read more

I think I found my new favorite tattoo shop. I have a personal artist that travels a lot and is tough to schedule appointments with so I've been looking for a "home base" shop and this fits the bill and more. While Skin Design has multiple locations across the country, this branch is brand new and it clearly shows. Place is spotless, well-maintained, and there are multiple artists that offer an array of tattooing skillsets. Everything from the ambiance of the shop to the friendliness/professionalism of the staff is warm, professional, and on-point. Michael is a great guy and honestly, every tattoo shop should aspire to have a manager/front desk person like him. From flash events to integrating live music, I respect their intention/desire to want to get integrated with the community as well. IMO, there's always a bond between yourself and a person who spends hours tattooing what might be on your skin forever and any additional effort to get to know clients ad hat kind of effort and attention to detail is commendable and did not go unnoticed. Prices are fair, they took me as a walk in on a saturday evening, and I spent a few hours (which went quickly) hanging out and waiting while a friend got a tattoo done as well. I waited a year and a half for my appointment with Robert and he absolutely exceeded my expectations! Robert Pho is already a legend in the tattoo game so I knew what I was getting when I originally booked with him, but what my imagination could barely muster he read my mind and mastered it! I do not remember talking too much during the consult but apparently I said enough for him to work his magic and boom! Yes, give an idea of what you want, but like any artist I recommend giving the artist creative freedom to do their thing. If you went to them in the first place you already have an understanding of their style and know they should slay it. He definitely lives up to his great reputation. His staff and crew are cool and welcoming as well. They will treat you like SDT family. I got to meet and talk with Luis and he's legit and located at the NYC shop. Really, I can only leave 5 stars? Because seriously, the work done here is phenomenal, and the atmosphere alone makes it worth going to House of Monkey. My girlfriend and I have been scouting out tattoo shops all over New York and Washington DC for a year now, since the last NYC Tattoo expo. I've been looking to start a sleeve on my right arm with three famous American figures: Lady Freedom (the statue on top of the Capitol building), Lady Justice (the blindfolded woman with the scales), and Lady Liberty (the New York icon). As a New Yorker living in DC, and as a veteran who studies politics and works in advocacy with the federal government, I was looking for an artist who I could trust to mark my body with images that are deeply meaningful to me, an artist who would do justice to these American icons. And holy **** did I find the perfect person in @MelodyTatoos (her Instagram handle) at @HouseOfMonkeyTatoo! I met with Melody for the first time about a month ago to describe the piece. Right away I could tell that she was just as concerned about doing a piece that she would have genuine passion for as I was concerned about spending my life with her artwork on my body. When I explained to her the meaning behind each feminine statue, how I wanted them to be true to form, but in a way, coming alive, Melody lit up with excitement. After we talked for a bit about what she'd need from me to inspire her work, I happily left more than was asked for the deposit to hold my appointment. Yesterday (June 17, 2017) was our first tattoo session of what I'm guessing will be at least six to do the main features of the sleeve. My girlfriend and I hung out with Melody, Lalo, and baby Boogie for about six hours between getting the stencils just right and finishing up. The atmosphere at House of Monkey is incredible. Having a bunch of artists who aren't simply "people who work together," but are indeed family, gives this tattoo shop a flavor unlike any other that I've been to. Melody, Lalo, my girlfriend, the other clients -- and baby Boogie -- were all chatting it up the entire time getting to know each other in a genuine way. Melody's passion and interest in the piece translated into what is by leaps and bounds the best of the seven tattoos that I now have. Her ability to translate a series of images into a photograph-like representation of an iconic image is second to none. The detail, the shading, the position on my body so that it flows with the shape of my arm... it's all incredible. I'm having difficulty coming up with words to describe just how realistic the image of Lady Freedom looks on my arm. So here's my advice if you're thinking about getting a piece that isn't just some hipster crap you're pulling off of Pintrest or Instagram: go to House of Monkey, go now. Check out the work they're doing, since they're always booked up. Strike up a conversation with the artists and see if you match. You won't be disappointed! read more

Luis did my memorial tattoo for my rabbit. The whole experience was very professional and the tattoo came out great! It is now almost half a year healed, and I love it even more! The healing process was smooth and good. No infection, no anything. If you follow his instructions, your tattoo will heal nicely! When I had the appointment, I was a whole mess emotionally because my rabbit passed away just days ago. Feb 5th 2023 marked my 10 year anniversary for being brain tumor/cancer free. I am now in remission and wanted to celebrate with something special that means a lot to me. I have been planning getting my first ever tattoo on my inner bicep by the one and only Orlando Quintanilla with Skin Design Tattoo. On my anniversary date I traveled to Las Vegas from TX and am so thankful to have Orlando work his magic in creating a masterpiece on my inner bicep. It is exactly what I wanted and then some! After a not-so-great experience with a visiting tattoo artist, Ozzy (incomplete, sloppy work), I first had a negative rating for this tattoo studio. The studio owner, Lalo, quickly contacted me, apologized, and offered the option to either fix my current tattoo, or work on another on, free of charge. I opted for the first offering, and worked with Melody to come up with some options to fix what was done. I've since had one tattoo session with Melody. I'm happy with the results so far, and I'm looking forward to the next session that I'll need to complete everything. I came to House of monkey seeking a Polynesian style tattoo artist & I met with Ozzy. First impressions mean the world & these guys nailed it. I was a walk-in consultation & immediately knew I'd be leaving a deposit for my tattoo. Ozzy created a custom free hand piece & I couldn't be more satisfied with my experience. You'd be extremely lucky if you found another true Polynesian artist with this level of professionalism & skill in NYC. My half sleeve took a total of 9hrs split between 2 sessions because he went with a more complex design & I love it. Ozzy requires a $200 cash deposit & that is also his hourly rate. I've been to a couple tattoo shops in NYC (East River Tattoo, King's Ave) and each time I had to give around a $100-$200 deposit for a large piece completed over a couple of days. I then went to House of Monkey to get a tattoo done. At the consultation we had a long conversation regarding the elements and type of tattoo that I wanted. The deposit was $800 which surprised me, but I know each shop works differently, so I accepted it. When I arrived on the day of the appointment, I did not like the tattoo that had been designed for me. Certain elements I wanted hadn't been included, others had been changed, and the overall feeling of the tattoo was something that had been quickly thrown together. I was not able to have it tattooed, the tattooer understood and informed me I would get a $400 refund. When I chased for that refund they claimed they hadn't realized certain conditions and that would not in fact be refunding anything. Yeah, it smarts, but at the end of the day, what comes around goes around. Buyers beware. Just be aware of policies before you part with your cash as not everyone functions with integrity. read more

I started to search for the Tattoo Artistist I loved from the show. And I'm glad I did. I don't even know where to start! I saw a new tattoo on a friend and was so impressed by the work I asked for the artist. Once I contacted them it was such an easy booking and deposit process! Overall such an amazing experience, which I don't take lightly considering something is going to be on my body forever. I went in with a friend for mini matching tattoos and Ralph's steady line-work is unparalleled. I was so happy I asked if he would retouch an old large tattoo that had faded very quickly. Some artists might not be willing to touch other's work, but he was so sweet (and was happy to do it the same day!). The studio is small, and spotless (so clean! and the artists themselves are adamant about clean working procedures as well). The studio is bright with white walls and not boring at all, as it has some great artwork. I loved the size of the studio because it was calm, quiet and personal, so I felt like there were no distractions (which I've had issues with at other parlors). Beyond Ralph's incredible talent, and funny and sweet nature, the rest of the team was equally as wonderful! Everyone was so invested in the process and very sweet. A couple of days after my tattoo I had issues with the Saniderm because my large tattoo is on a joint and it had rubbed to the point of blistering. I called the studio and they were so prompt to help I was actually in awe. They had me send pictures and immediately got back to me with advice that fixed the problem within a day or two. My tattoos are now all healed and I seriously couldn't be any happier. I will 1000% be back, and would recommend this place to anyone wanting a tattoo (first timers especially as it was such a laid back experience!). I happened to stumble upon this place, in that it happened to be next to another business I was visiting. After the horror story that was my previous tattoo experience, I was apprehensive about diving back into the ink, but I was also determined to ask any questions I needed to and be as informed as possible. I might have bordered on annoying with all the questions and concerns I had, but if so, not one of the shop artists/staff I talked with treated me that way, and they respected my concern when I showed them the literal scars from my past. I decided based on the work I saw and the simplicity of the tattoo I wanted to go with Camilo as my artist. I couldn't have picked a more patient, or more awesome artist (and the vibe I got was that he was far from the only artist in the shop with chill qualities). He advised I get both the images I wanted since they were small anyway, which was a better choice in the end. He also gently persuaded me on better placement for one of the tattoos. I'm glad I didn't stick to my guns on either of those because Camilo turned out to be right on both those concerns and knowledgeable about placement for visibility with just the right amount of concealment on the ear area (where my new tatts currently reside). To summarize, this experience was the complete opposite of my previous one. It restored my confidence and my love of tattoos and gave me hope. I don't know the other artists well, but from how I felt being in that space I'm sure I'd feel similarly about them and their work. I certainly plan to meet the rest of the crew when I come back for more ink at some point. Williamsburg is littered with tattoo shops and there is a plethora of options, but based on my experience, this place is definitely one of the parlors to go to. read more
