I'm honestly very upset with the experience my mom, sister and I had at this shop. We came in for 3 matching tiny heart tattoos on our arms last week for my birthday as walk ins. We were setup with Ian. The initial interaction was okay, we were taken back quickly and were given a small heart stencil, we were told this was the smallest that could be done in red ink. Me and my mom agreed to the size, shape and color so we proceeded with the tattoo. After my tattoo was done, I loved it and thought it was perfect, I was very happy. Then we began to discuss my sister's tattoo and my sister was a little unsure of the size because she wanted it smaller. Ian told her that he couldn't do it any smaller in red, it would have to be black. My mom & I didn't like the tone he was using with my 18 year old sister, didn't make us feel comfortable at all especially being the only women in the shop at the time. We proceed with my mom's tattoo. Looks great on her too. My sister ends up waiting to see if we can get it done smaller somewhere else, and we did. It came out beautiful and healed perfectly fine. Moving on to the healing process. A week later and my mom & I's tattoos are very obviously infected and healing terribly. Pictures are included. We're not even sure what to do at this point beside antibiotic cream and hoping that they heal decently. We will most definitely be going somewhere else to have them touched up once completely healed. There was no positive experience with this shop in my opinion. read more

Had an awesome time getting my first tattoo at Three Kings in Brooklyn yesterday. Justin made me feel comfortable and helped to guide me on my decision. The piece I wanted was kind of aggressive for a first tattoo, so I made the call to get something more traditional and he drew up a custom dagger for me that came out perfectly. The shop itself is unpretentious and super welcoming; other artists stopped in to see what Justin was working on and you can tell they are supportive of each other. New to tattoos and didn't have any of idea of where to go so hit google for some suggestions to get a Paddington one I have been wanting. Three Kings kept popping up and only a 15 minute drive, stopped in on a Saturday afternoon. Met Ramiro and told him my idea. He showed me his work and everything looked awesome so we set an appointment two weeks out. He said he was excited to work on the piece, which me being a newbie to it, definitely was reassuring and made me feel comfortable. Went in on Saturday to get it done and I couldn't be happier with the results. All in took somewhere between an hour and a half and two hours. But it felt like half the time. He kept checking in to make sure I was comfortable and if i needed any breaks. I did not want to look at the progress and just be surprised by the end result. At one point, he asked the fellow artists their opinions on how they would approach some of the shading which was cool seeing the collaboration and wanting to get the best possible results. When all was done, it blew me away. It is my first one with color and the way they pop are awesome. Have a couple more in mind currently and after this one, as well as the rest of his work, will 100% be going back. The studio itself is great too. Very clean, comfortable and all the staff is nice and welcoming. 10/10 read more

I had a wonderful experience with a small tattoo I just got. I initially messaged via DM on Instagram to get pricing and discuss my tattoo idea, they promptly responded with all the details I needed to call and set up a consultation with a tattoo artist. I called a few days later and they had availability for walkins so I made my way in. Once I arrived, Juan the tattoo artist was able to see me immediately. The consultation was so smooth and easy and he was able to do exactly what I wanted, to the point that it looked just like the print out!! And he was able to do my small tattoo in about 15 minutes. I was in and out like a breeze. What mostly stood out to me was the customer service. From the initial Instagram DM to the final payment, they were consistent and genuinely kind. I love this because I naturally expect tattoo shops to be grungy and semi-rude, but that was not the case here! They've earned a lifetime customer. I've wanted my FIRST tattoo FOREVER. It's seriously been the same vision for years: same wording, in the same font, in the same location. I've been putting it off due to fear (read: being a little bitch), but this year, for my birthday, I wanted to FINALLY DO IT. Spontaneously called 3Kings because they had good reviews and the Greenpoint location was most convenient. Walked in so freaking apprehensively on what felt like the hottest day of the year in July. I was seriously hyperventilating at one point. I knew it was so stupid of me to feel that way and I tried to push it off and not embarras myself too much. Front desk staff was somewhat sympathetic and nice (read: wide-eyed, mouth-opened "this bitch is nuts" kinda thought process), brought Shea over (amazing eyes and covered up head to toe!!!) He gave me some tough love, I'll be honest! I didn't like it at first and was all like, "ew ok no wtf? I'm outta here, f this!" but I'm SO GLAD I got over myself (!!!) did it and most importantly, the tat itself came out awesome, too!!!!! Great overall experience! Clean & professional place! It only took 33 years to grow a pair and do this. Couldn't be happier and more proud of myself. I had a really great experience here! I got my second tattoo here and I love it! First, the shop is beautiful. You can tell everything is well taken care of and clean. I was waiting on a comfy couch and admiring the artwork on the walls. Also, it was snowing heavily and they managed too keep the floors dry so no one would slip. Next, they were open on a bad snow day! They still kept my appointment! How can I not give five stars when these poor people kept open in terrible weather and kept my appointment time?? I got tattooed by Gia. I wanted a serotonin molecule but not just a plain molecule so I asked if she could jazz it up a bit. I love what she came up with (photos to come). It ended up bigger than i originally envisioned, but I'm glad it is!! I think it ended up being the perfect size. Finally, Leigh at the front desk was very helpful and welcoming. I've had a mixed set of interactions at Three Kings. On the positive side, everything's clean and they take hygiene seriously. You don't have to worry about anything sketchy here when it comes to your health. It's a big shop, which means they have a lot of artists and there's usually someone really cool guesting here from out of town, so it pays to keep an eye on their IG. On the negative side, it feels very much like a "chain" tattoo parlor. There's a high rate of artist turnover, so your experience with walk-ins will be kind of inconsistent. Sometimes you'll get stuck with someone who will complain about the design you chose during your entire tattoo. Other times you'll get someone really competent and nice. It makes it hard to recommend the place to anyone. Also, and this might have been a one time thing, but I had a really strange experience in the waiting room in 2018. There was a white guy with a buzzcut there who was pretty obviously an undercover cop. He was asking anyone who walked into the waiting room if they knew where to buy weed. Every now and then, an artist would come out, they'd talk about a design for an eagle tattoo, the artist would react comically frustrated, and then the artist would leave. The guy was really pushy about asking me if I knew where to buy some "kid cudi", which I still laugh about to this day. Overall, you're probably better off supporting a smaller shop that doesn't have six locations. read more

AMAZING experience! I had my first tattoo ever done here. I was greeted with a very positive, clean, and inviting atmosphere. First tattoo, and I couldn't be happier with the way things went. I called ahead, was told that for my tattoo I'd be fine as a walk-in and that I needed to bring cash. I went there the next day and got seated with Gustavo, with zero wait-time. He was great: no long and lengthy discussion involved. He asked me what I wanted, gave me a price estimate, helped me flesh out the idea a bit, made sure I was happy with the sketch and sat me down in the chair immediately. As soon as I was comfortable, he set to work, and finished my tattoo (a black triforce at the center of my upper back) in less than an hour. I went in assuming I'd have to bite my lip and deal with some pain, as part of the tattoo had to go over the spine / bone, but he was excellent. Was barely in "pain" at all. As soon as we were done, he carefully and patiently explained how I was supposed to take care of my skin as it healed: what products to use, how long and often to apply them to my skin, when I could start exercising again, etc. The only minor mishap was that I either put on a bit too much product or sweat too much during the first 2 weeks of healing, so there's a teeny, tiny smudge of less-dark black on the tattoo. Probably could have been avoided if I'd just sit still and been extra careful for that time period. If I get another tattoo, I'm going back to Three Kings for sure. Well worth the expense (about $360, tip included). read more

I am really happy with my tattoo and my experience with Three Kings. Amanda and the receptionist were so kind and helpful from the beginning to the very end. I emailed first and Amanda worked with me to create something I wanted that was also realistic with my price point and body placement. I felt the quote was fair and she honored it when it was time to pay. I scheduled my tattoo a few months before my appointment. My boyfriend also wanted to get one on the same day and they were able to accommodate him with another artist. (Which I will note was a very different, still good, experience from mine). We were coming out of town to visit NYC for Christmas so we were excited that the scheduling all worked out. We took the metro and it was only a block or two walk. Very convenient. We stopped to get bao buns beforehand and there were many restaurants and quick stops to get snacks and water. The shop itself was clean, spacious, comfortable, and warm feeling. I walked in and thought it was nice to smell the Christmas tree they had up at the front. There was also a returning customer there who seemed friendly and excited to be there. I was very very nervous to get my fairly large color tattoo but because everyone was so awesome, I was settled after a few minutes. My boyfriend was also helpful so I recommend bringing one friend if you know you're someone who needs it. Amanda is so talented and specializes in floral/insect tattoos and I recommend looking at her online portfolio on her website and instagram. She is very understanding and patient and super chill with the tattooing process. She used cocoa butter and Bactine which I appreciated and when it got really painful she helped me by spraying more Bactine and talking me through it. She didn't mind me taking breaks, nervously talking, or eating my snacks. My only complaint is the metal fold up chair that they had for customers to sit on. I sat for a few hours and it was not comfortable. In hindsight, I wish I brought a cushion. Otherwise, I felt really comfortable the whole time which for me was very important. When I was finished, she gave me Tegaderm, a hug, and took pictures for me. I was super happy and was already thinking about my next tattoo . read more

Love that it's open Sundays too. Entire process was smooth and seamless from the inquiry message to deposit to getting the piece done. My son is heading back to college for his junior year this week and has been expressing his interest in getting his first tattoo for quite some time. Typically my son and I travel somewhere different every year around this time however given the circumstances, this year our options were very limited. The morning I visited Three Kings I had some tattoo jitters, but as soon as I stepped foot in the door and met their friendly and accommodating staff I was quickly put at ease. I came in with my own drawing that I wanted rendered as a tattoo, and my artist, Brian Bower, helped me pick the perfect size and placement for it based on the general idea I gave him.
