Love my tattoo! Right from where I walked in, I was greeted by the receptionist. It's such a beautiful huge space tucked in between various businesses. It's very clean, organized and well thought of. I got a recent tattoo from a guest artist who visited NYC this past week. There is a back space once you walk in for permanent residence and for guest artists, you will be led up a flight upstairs to the 2nd floor. I am beyond thrilled with getting my first tattoo here at Blindreason. I've been researching for months to find the balance of the right place and vibe to get this done and was unbelievably satisfied with the shop and my artist. Ghinko is an incredible artist and I'm so honored to have her bring my idea to life. She was attentive and patient, listening to what I wanted and incorporating all the small details I needed. She also was so understand with getting the design just right. If you look at her IG, it's no secret that she's one of the most talented artists out there - and likely going to be a big name soon. There isn't anyone else that I would have wanted to make my olive branch real. The tattoo looks like it's always been a part of my body. It genuinely feels like she uncovered the ink that was always under my skin. I get nonstop compliments on it from every single type of person. Great first tattoo experience! I got a tattoo from Jason (@jjjaylud) in late October. I initially wanted to do a walk in, but when I messaged him on instagram, he said he was full for that particular day. I opted to make an appointment through their website instead, and got a response very quickly. The tattoo parlor is very pretty, with a lot of black and white accents throughout. After I made the appointment, I put down a deposit through Paypal. They do have a credit card fee, so bring cash on the actual day if you want to save a bit of money for tax. Jason was extremely kind, listening to my idea and my concerns. My tattoo actually ended up being cheaper than the quoted amount, which was great. I paid $150 + tip for a small fineline tattoo on my wrist. They do have a sister tattoo shop, Mischief Tattoo near the West 4 Subway station. I believe some of the artists work at both. read more

absolutely incredible experience here with my artist juan! was a little anxious about getting tattooed in a completely different city across the country from where i live (the bay), but this apprehensiveness swiftly dissipated as i noticed how attentive, prompt, and communicative their shop is. although the rates were pretty different from the pieces i get back home, they're well worth it. the craftsmanship of these artists is unbeatable. was working out of NYC for a couple weeks and wanted to get a tattoo as a memento of my experience here, especially knowing the artists in this city are TOP-NOTCH at what they do. after scanning yelp profiles i was convinced that blindreason had a variety of artists that would suit my vision. all their recent work is published on their shop instagram, and they showcase all their artists very well in their story highlights. after scanning through portfolios, i was super drawn to juan! there is a small gripe here, but they actually do not allow walk-ins (i remember reading somewhere they they were offering, but after talking on the phone with the receptionist i learned that they don't. so call ahead! they're also very heavily drawn to cash payments only, so beware...although they do take venmo. one thing that i particularly enjoyed was that if you are visiting from out of town, you can specifically mention that and they'll go out of their way to fit you in so you can get a piece before you leave! i thought this was so helpful, and awesome, as i was pressed on time and was working as well, and needed to plan in advance when i'd take the day off. i communicated my vision to juan, who learned about what i was looking for through the receptionist. after putting down an idea and a deposit, i came in for my appointment! i thought his bedside manner as a tattooer was wonderful. i've had multiple bad experiences with male tattoo artists and have been made to feel uncomfortable around them, but juan was sooo chill, understanding, tender, and warm. i was able to have real conversations with him about serious stuff, and also joke around about goofy shit too. realest experience with an artist i've had. this made the experience super memorable and this kind of energy will keep me as a loyal client coming back again and again whenever i'm back in the city. although i requested a piece that's not generally his style, element, or specialty--juan absolutely KILLED my piece. i requested a cat with a hanya mask in japanese influenced style, and have very rarely ever trusted artists to just draw my ideas and go with what they come up with, but when i saw his design i was overjoyed and super stoked. i'm glad i trusted him after finding his portfolio. everyone who walked past his tattoo session with me remarked how cute and well executed it was. i'm overjoyed whenever i look at it. excitedly so, after having such a spectacular first experience, i wanted to get another piece in the same session. juan was super down to do it or let me leave for the day (i was yawning and nodding off during the first piece), and i'm glad i took up the idea and got a crane from his flash tattooed also. juan was an absolute pleasure to get tattooed by. i complimented him many times on his ability to be so diverse in skill, to the point where we agreed the next time i come to town, he'll tattoo swallows on my chest in realism and touch up my pieces if necessary. i already know i'll be getting a bunch of other pieces from him as the years go by. i've found an artist that i trust that i can see regularly now. albeit, he's across the country--but nothing some cc points can't solve! seamless experience at a great studio, with the most amicable and highly skilled artist, the bay would be lucky if an artist like juan were to move or guest tattoo there. read more

My friends and I impulsively decided to get tattoos. We were nervous to find a place that would take us as walk-ins that wouldn't leave us with tattoos we didn't love. I stumbled upon this shop here on Yelp and noticed it had great ratings, but not very many. By looking at the pictures and checking out their Instagram, my friends and I agreed that all of the artists were talented and we would be satisfied with whoever was able to take us. The three of us got there around 7:30/8pm and we were all seen by Ariel. The shop was incredibly clean and professional. The receptionist Kendra was also awesome and we LOVED hanging with her while we waited to be seen by Ariel. Our tattoos were quick, painless, and the line work was truly divine. I paid $200 + tip for the tattoo, which I felt was a fair price. My tattoo came out extremely delicate and feminine, and was incredibly well placed by Ariel. All-in-all, I'd highly recommend this place. We were lucky to find Blindreason (it's still very new and that's why they were able to accommodate walk-ins). I am so happy I chose to visit Blind Reason while I was in NY. I was traveling from California to see my friend who had recently moved to Brooklyn. We talked about getting tattoos while I was visiting, but I wasn't able to get an appointment at the shop she had suggested. I found Juan through Instagram and loved his fine line work. I especially appreciated my communication with the shop when I was trying to set up my appointment. The shop was extremely responsive to emails. I felt like they were super friendly and helpful. The tattoo shop was beautiful!! I got to talking with Juan and apparently it's a brand new shop.. only a couple months old. They had an older, well-established tattoo shop but had just opened Blind Reason recently. They had a very industrial, clean aesthetics vibe. I loved it! The doors to the front of the shop were kept propped open by chairs. There were two areas. The first room was really open and there was a back room for more private tattoos (my best friend also got a tattoo on her ribs, they seated us back there). The back room also was a showroom for all these gorgeous leather jackets. They were hung up really high, along the ceiling and made the room smell so amazing! Juan was super sweet and professional. He showed me the design he drew from the ideas I gave previously over email. After we talked about it a bit, he brought me back a few different sizing choices. The tattoo took about an hour. It turned out great! I am so in love with it! This has been my best tattoo experience so far. One of the first things I noticed was how clean the shop is, I also appreciated the fact that they were taking covid measures seriously. I'm a previous customer, reaching out after hearing of a recent experience my boyfriend had at your shop. As his tattoo began to heal, it was just slightly off from what he expected. So, he called and asked for a touch-up, where you said it would be $50, since he had waited longer than 3 months to reach out. Being someone who has many tattoos and piercings, I had never heard of a policy like this, since everyone's body heals at a different rate, but every shop is entitled to their own policies, if they're clearly and explicitly stated to their customers. Then, around 5pm on Saturday (5/22), Blindreason cancelled his touch-up appointment 2 hours before his slot, because another tattoo was running long. I'm confused as to why his appointment was so abruptly canceled, considering Blindreason boasts a 48-hour cancellation/rescheduling policy for their clients, with a significant non-refundable deposit. Why was my partner made to pay for a touch-up (a policy that is not mentioned anywhere on Blindreason's website, FAQ, or Aftercare pages, as of the time of this email), and then having his appointment canceled barely 2 hours in advance? Why was he also asked, in front of other clients, to pay before receiving his service? Not only is this degrading, but what if the touch-up hadn't gone to plan? If he had cancelled that soon before his initial appointment, wouldn't you have required monetary compensation, as stated in your FAQ? It was unnecessary and unprofessional to indicate to your client that your artist was coming in on their day off to do a touch-up (a choice made entirely on their own, that had no reason to be disclosed to my partner), and to demand payment (before even providing the service) from your client after contradicting your own shop rules. He, too, is a working professional that came in on his day off to get the tattoo touched up. I'm unsure as to why you believe his time is less valuable than that of your shop. I look forward to your response and clarification, as well as specific outlines in your shop policies that indicate this was handled appropriately, dated prior to my partner's initial visit. As someone who has a deep appreciation for the art of tattooing, I find it particularly upsetting to see shops have so little respect for their clients' time, and want to be sure to warn everyone in my circle (and anyone online) so they'll know about my boyfriend's experience before connecting with your shop. read more

Super responsive to e-mails, and after a minor scheduling miscomm (I was only in town for 2 days) they were able to accommodate regardless and their artist Hyeon even came in on his day off to help me get my 2 projects done before I left home for LA. Communication with the artists and the people working there is super fast, which was surprising considering they are super popular and I originally thought there would be a huge waiting list and I wouldn't get in till two months later! My experience at the shop was so great, as it was clean and very welcoming. I got both of my tattoos with Ariel and she is just the best because she's really sweet and kind and always just about making you feel really comfortable whether it's your 1st tattoo or 50th! I normally don't write reviews like this, but I feel obligated to, as I literally cannot be happier with my experience at Blindreason. I requested a quote and appointment via email for my very first tattoo, and was replied to very promptly and professionally. I had my quote, appointment, and deposit down in a span of maybe an hour, if even. My artist, Envy (@envy667tattoo) was absolutely incredible. I explained that I wanted a memorial tattoo for my late father-- a quote from a card he had written to me. I explained that I want to preserve his handwriting and duplicate it as close as possible; the only change would be the alignment from a paragraph format to a single line. As for the actual tattoo, he made sure that he captured every little nuance of my dad's handwriting-- every tiny flick and ink sputter was meticulously captured. My brother's reaction: "Holy shit, that's dad's handwriting!" My mother was brought to tears. Prior to the appointment, he constantly checked that I was happy with the placement and design of the tattoo and was open to any changes and modifications I requested. He explained that certain placements might compromise the longevity of the tattoo, and suggested better options (that I totally appreciate, because I love the placement that we agreed on!) Once I was actually receiving my tattoo, he explained to me every step of what he was doing-- he opened the needle right in front of me, explained what equipment he would be using, and explained what he was doing (which is great for somebody like me, who already asks a ton of questions.) While I was actually getting the tattoo, he made sure I was comfortable and made sure I was doing alright. And, when we were done, he took some really awesome pictures of my tattoo and sent them to me on the spot, and gave me a lot of information about aftercare etc. In short-- especially as somebody receiving their first tattoo-- I can't think of a single thing I would change. Wasn't pretentious; price was super reasonable; facility was immaculate; and the staff and my artist were absolute and total ~professionals~. I cannot thank Blindreason enough, and when I'm ready for my next tattoo, I don't have any doubt in my mind who I'll be going to. read more

My tattoo took about 5.5 hours from start to finish with no cut in quality. The staff staff stayed late to make sure the tattoo came out spectacularly. I was initially intimidated to come here, as it was my first tattoo and I'd faced a little bit of judgement from other places that viewed me as just another basic girl inspired by Instagram.
