What a beautiful experience we had at Have & Meyer. They made my small, impromptu wedding a wonderful night and I'm so grateful. The food was absolutely delicious, especially the truffle gnocchi, the charcuterie, the bruschetta, the lobster pasta, the artichokes... I could go on. Everything was incredible. We had one of the best wines I've ever had (2018 Barbaresco, pic included below.. I highly recommend). And the desserts were divine. My favorite was the tiramisu. The whole night was made even more special by the impeccable service. We arrived to a beautiful set up and a bottle ready to toast our special day. Guess it's more of an image / class thing than a good restaurant. Was seated at a dirty table, smooshed in between everyone else. Waited and waited for a server just for transactional communication from her, close to 0 hospitality. Ordered a lemon soda for $10 that was just lemon juice and soda water. Mafalda with Lamb Ragù & Truffle had no flavor or complexity, tasted like any pasta and jar sauce with some seasonings. The Bruschetta & Pomodorini was the worst bruschetta I have ever had with no garlic flavor just mouth fulls of tomato's (literally it's just pound of Pomodorini on tiny bread). Rigatoni alla Carbonara was another let down. The portion sizes were smaller than needed to be for the price along with terrible or no flavor. I love this place for the drinks and the vibes but I wouldn't necessarily come back for a full meal. To start off, we weren't greeted when we walked in and the service was really slow. We were seated at the bar but we didn't know who to order with and we had to flag someone down to place our orders. We had a reservation for a table but that didn't seem to hold much value. Besides the service, this place is super cute and a great spot for music, great drinks and great appetizers! The espresso martini was one of the best I've had in Brooklyn. The cheese and meat board we ordered was soooo tasty and it came on some bread with olive oil and sea salt - YUM! The app was the star of the show. I literally never write negative reviews but I had a terrible experience here last night. Came for the Valentine's Day "experience" and was sat in a literal freezing bunker in the basement. No music and one other couple. Incredibly awkward and uncomfortable. I cannot overstate how awkward it was and it honestly ruined the night. The place was packed and it was very clear that they were prioritizing squeezing maximum profit out of the holiday instead of delivering customer service. I obviously blame the manager/owner and not the waitstaff who were attentive and doing their best. Food was good as it always is here but not as good as the other times I have been, probably because the kitchen was overworked. This weekend both families, from CA, TX and NY, came together at this special restaurant to celebrate the couple's wedding engagement. From the first call in October to book our party, to the many follow up texts of planning, to the night of our Dec 5 gathering, Daniella was quick to respond, flexible with changes, and fun to work with. Wine bar? Sure. Italian Restaurant? No. Beautiful looking place, service was fine, but disorganized, but food was mediocre to bad. Octopus appetizer - I do not know the secret to tenderizing octopus, but neither do they. It was rubbery and had no taste at all. As to the rest, it is really just a pasta place. There was a cod dish, lamb chops and steak for two, but that is it, and many pasta choices. If it were really "Italian", they would know pasta is just a first course. The pasta with lobster and the Amatriciana were our choices and both were pretty tasteless. Neither was a good presentation. Just a little side note - there is a single restroom for the entire place. the ambiance is great, rustic and warm. a very small space so it wasn't the most comfortable seating arrangement for 5 people. we originally had a reservation for 6. We were squeezed together and had to keep moving to allow for the waitress to get to the table behind us. the people were friendly and warm . i was quite dissatisfied with the food. the apps were yummy so we were so excited for the main course and unfortunately it was a major let down . not one of us enjoyed our ordered main course, my Cod was dry and smelled fishy, the lamb was wayyy overdone and the pastas lacked flavor. the waitress was so sweet she had one of the pastas removed from our bill when she noticed it was hardly touched and we told her it was not good at all. very unfortunate because although a small space I would have gone back because the staff was so nice . please improve on the food. read more

The romantic ambiance, wines, food make this my favorite wine place in NYC. It's a cute little place to enjoy the night with your date or even friends. The wines here are truly special - they are all natural and sourced from small producers from Italy. The walls are literally full of wines! There's always something new to try here, and the staffs are very knowledgeable and helpful in helping you find what you like. I love so many of their unique wines here and can never go back to drinking typical wines. The food is great. The pasta is very fresh and now I understand why Italian cuisine can be so simple - you just need good ingredients and a good chef! For dessert, the Tiramisu here is absolutely the best I've had anywhere. Also, we're in the middle of a pandemic, and they have done a great job keeping the place running and keeping the patrons satisfied. I recently reserved the private room at Have & Meyer for a small cocktail party for friends and family. Alessandro and Daniela made this event a success with their excellent wine selection, food and service. We had a little miscommunication about the table setting which was set up for a sit-down dinner, but they quickly re-organized the table and chairs for a stand up cocktail party without stress. Reserved a table two weeks early, yet we waited in a queue for half an hour in the freezing cold and ended up with a spot at the bar (they had overbooked by many, many people). Our reservation was at 830, we got our main courses at 1030. We had to ask repeatedly for bread while we waited. The gnocchi was dry and literally burned. Our bill was over $200, and the best part was the wine. The bartender was fantastic and apologetic and gave us some comp drinks. Oh boy...I haven't written a review in a long time and I came today to do a 1 star and 5 star on 2 Italian joints we recently visited. This one...this is the FIVE star review. We went to a cute pasta making class in Brooklyn then wanted to grab a light-ish dinner afterwards. After striking out at a few bars we finally found this place just walking the streets. Looked cozy with a nice menu so we popped in. It's a small space and was packed. We were given the last 2 seats at the bar, and it was a fantastic bar for dining. The 2 bartenders were super friendly and made good wine recs. I should have taken pictures of the inside. Absolutely beautiful and very homey. One of the few Italian restaurants in NYC that actually reminded me of restaurants in Italy. Wish I could give 10 stars for ambiance. Also wish I could give 10 stars for the food. I said we were looking for a light meal so we ordered the prosciutto app and the carbonara main to split. The prosciutto was some of the best prosciutto I've ever had (and I've had a lot half my family is 100% italian). It was so good we ordered a 2nd board. Then we split the carbonara. Carbonara in the states is almost always done incorrectly, meaning it deviates from the 6 OG ingredients. And being that it's only 6 ingredients you have to nail everything to make it good. Have and Meyer did it. True carbonara with a thick silky sauce that wasn't too cheesy or too eggy, perfect. My father is the ultimate true carbonara lover and I hope to bring him here. Rolling with the "too good not to go for it" mentality we now had we opted for the creme brulee dessert which was also fantastic. I believe it had some caramel in it. The bartender also gave us complimentary lemoncelo in the traditional italian desert wine glasses (which were all different and very on brand for most italian households). All we could talk about during most of the meal was how we couldn't wait to come back. And we will be back. If I had one complaint about this place? Extensive natural wine list and solid classic pastas and a few more daring choices (haven't had venison outside of my grandma's place in Minnesota very often!) They were out of the wine we wanted, but our waitress offered a second option that was similar to what we ordered.
