Service was horrible! The girls there seem clueless. They all seemed like it was their first day on the job. Our table was full of dirty dishes. We asked one of the girls to clear the table. We were there about 30 minutes until someone did actually clean the table. The only reason someone did is because they brought my coffee, which took them 30 minutes to make, before anyone came up to our table. When we asked the girl to clear the table, she copped an attitude like we were the ones that dirtied the table. My wife had to tell her that they weren't our dishes. Even if they had been our dishes, which they weren't, she should have simply taken the dishes instead of us needing to explain the dishes were there when we got there. When we arrived, the water dispenser (jug) was out of water. I informed one of the girls there and she took it to the back. She didn't come back with it for about 45 minutes. How does it take 45 minutes to fill up a water dispenser that only holds like 2 gallons of water?! We ended up waiting 30 minutes for a coffee and about 50 minutes for our food. How on earth does a cup of coffee take 30 minutes to make?! There was a guy there that ordered before we did, that only ordered yucca fries, that waited about 60 minutes before he got fed up and asked for a refund. Again, the girls there acted as if it was their first day on the job. They fumbled his order and kept telling him "10 more minutes." The food wasn't good either. The beans were bland and the ropa vieja was way too sweet. It tasted like it had artificial sweetener in it. The tostones were decent although I had to ask for dipping sauce. They asked me if I wanted mojo, which was ironic because my wife tried to order the bowl and they claimed they ran out of mojo, so she had to order something different. They obviously had not ran out of mojo if they gave it to me for the tostones yet it wasn't available for a bowl. Overall, it was not worth the wait. Always a great place to get good Cuban food. My wife always, yes always orders the Ropa vieja dish which comes with rice, black beans, and plantains. This time around I choose a breakfast dish. Shredded brisket meat with egg scramble. This also came with beans and a few pieces of buttered toast. As usual the wait can be long as the place is typically full of customers. The ambiance is nice and homey with ample seating indoors and out. Service can be a bit slow and when I asked for a pecan sweet bread warmed, they forgot to give it to us and I had to request for it. When it arrived it wasn't warmed like we asked. Server must of been overwhelmed. I typically like the desserts here but that day my dessert seemed somewhat stale and dense. We started with the Sal coffee lattes here which hits the spot. Next we drove into spinach empanadas, these nuggets of goodness are homemade so you can taste the freshness of the ingredients and the piece that put it over the top is the crunch texture that encapsulates spinach interior. My recommendation is get two orders! Next on the hit list is the Yuca fries they should rename these ya can't eat just one because these pair well with the sauce which you'll need two orders if you are sharing. After I ate one, they crisp it from side side and they weren't greasy, just crispy and fresh. The sauce comes in a heated version and a kid friendly version both I recommend. Fresh and homemade! The potato ball and beef empanada were crispy and savory with a delightful beef filling. Though not in need of additional flavor or moisture, they were served with sauces. The Cubano was huge and tasty, with the mustard providing a nice tartness to the heavy sandwich. The guava cheese pastry was warmed for us, and though still cold in the middle, the flaky and fresh crust and tasty filling made up for it. We were also given a tray of toasted and buttered bread. I'm not aware if this is free for every dine-in guest or they just had extra, but it was so delicious! Tried their Sal Latte because I was curious to see how salt could enhance the taste of my coffee/latte. The first thing I noticed after I took my first sip though was how strong the coffee was. I didn't really notice the salt but then again I'm not a real a coffee aficionado, so I would put it pass me to completely miss it. Just being honest here. But overall the latte was delicious.
