Stopped in for dinner with hubby. Nice ambiance walking into the restaurant. Smell of fresh brewed coffee wafting in the air. Soft Christmas music playing in the background and staff behind the counter smiling as they greeted their patrons. A sense of comfort, ease and relaxation came through in the decor. We placed our order at the counter, received a number and chose a table by the window. It was about 330pm, and it was not yet busy. It took about 10 minutes for us to get our first order of yuca fries as an appetizer. Another 15-20 minutes, and our main entrees (Cubano sandwich and Plancha chicken) came out. The yuca fries were better than regular fries. I almost never want to go back to regular. Couldn't get enough of the garlic dipping sauce. The plancha chicken came with a side of rice, beans and bananas. The chicken was flavored well and cooked perfectly. The grilled char came through in the onions. The rice had good texture and mixing them with the beans was rich. I tasted the sandwich hubby ordered, and the flavor was balanced. The ratio of meat was nicely proportioned to the bread and condiments inside. The sandwich was not greasy, and the bread had formed a delicious crunchy exterior. The staff were perfectly friendly. When my wife and I arrived, we were a little surprised that it was an order at the counter, then sit and wait for your food. We thought it was going to be a regular table service restaurant. We had to scan a bar code for the menu, then wait in line to order food. So my wife went to order and I got us a table for five. I ordered the "Havana Q" and my wife ordered the Chicken Cilantro Bowl. SORRY...I FORGOT TO GET PICTURES. Both plates were so very delicious!!! The Havana Q sandwich was a little messy, but so worth every BBQ covered finger. The Chicken Cilantro bowl looked wonderful and smelled delicious!!! My sandwich plate was served with one sweet plantain. My wife's chicken bowl was served with white rice, black beans and sweet plantains. My wife purchased me two sodas, one tasted like root beer and the other tasted like pineapple. The two sodas were both very good. I have never ever seen these sodas before today. We also ordered some Empanadas for the table. I ate one Chicken Cilantro and one Beef Empanada. The Empanadas were served with a side sauce. Both sauces were delicious, but I liked the orange sauce which was supposed to be spicy. It was not very spicy, but it was delicious. We liked; - Ropa vieja. - Lechón plate. - Cuban sandwich. - Yuca frita The Potato ball was so so, I think the filling was over seasoned. Some other friends order the beef plate and they thought it was average and the meat a little tough. Empanadas were not good. We found this place while driving north on the 15 back to Orange County. It is nestled in a cool little historic downtown area (parking kind of terrible). We only ordered 2 entrees and it took about 47 minutes to get our items. We had originally planned to sit down to eat but ended up having to get the food to go. We weren't the only ones waiting a long time, plenty of tables were waiting and also looked irritated. Haven't tried the food yet, the review is just based on how long it took to get it. It is authentic Cuban cuisine. If you've never tried it. They usually use garlic, cumin, and lemon seasonings. Not spicey...and oh so delicious! The other would be their Chicken Mojo stuffed with chicken and cheese, with their mojo sauce all up in it and around, this too is a must order. These are the types of empanadas that keeps that party going! Cuban Roast Pork Sandwich ~ A slow roasted pork that had that its "spa" time. A glamorous 15 hours of being pampered in their mojo marinade. This tender pork sandwich is served and pressed with swiss cheese mixed in with it. Ropa Egg Bowl ~ This bowl is what I consider an ultimate breakfast of champions. Filled with grilled onions, tomatoes, infused with eggs, rice, black beans, cheese, and shredded beef . After looking around at a couple of restaurants in the area, we ended up here for lunch. This is a casual Cuban bakery cafe with indoor & outdoor tables. You order at the register, find a table then they will bring your food to you. There wasn't much of a line but when it was our turn to order, we were told that it will take 40 minutes, which we were ok with (it was lunch time, plus staff shortage). While waiting for our food, we noticed several other tables were in the same boat as we were, people were looking at their phones, talking to each other, trying to entertain ourselves. If I was writing a review at this point, it would be a 2 or 3. But we waited & waited, our food finally came out. After the 1st bite of my Ropa sandwich, I'm a fan. The meat was tender, juicy and flavorful. I was able to eat 1/2 of it sandwich style, the other 1/2 got got quite soggy I had to use a fork for it, but it didn't make it was soo good. The Cuban sandwich & bowl of saffron rice with chicken were equally tasty. My son had a taste of our food and said that his sandwich was best. I didn't think anything else could beat mine. Price was reasonable and food was awesome here. Service was minimum but I take it as what it is of this time. Another restaurant that we stopped at had one server for the entire place. However, this place was too good not to have a line. We came around noon on Friday and they were a good amount of people there. Indoor and outdoor seating is available! First, you order at the register then receive a number on a stand. Then the servers would bring your order out. I asked the cashier what she recommended for iced coffees and she said her favorite was the Mother Earth latte. If you like cinnamon in your coffee, this is the drink for you! It features almond milk which is perfect for those who are lactose. For food, I got a veggie empanada which was okay. The Cubano sandwich was amazing though! It had enough sauce and the flavors were delicious. The only reason this place did not receive a 5 star was the service. Half of my friends had their order come out within 15 minutes. Unfortunately, my other friends didn't receive their food until an hour later. We told the servers a couple times, but it wasn't until my friends walked to the counter and told them they had been waiting for over an hour that they decided to refund their orders and get their food out almost immediately. Although it was busy, we saw customers who came after us getting served. I'm glad my friends were able to get refunded, because waiting over an hour was disappointing. My favorite is the chicken & cilantro. And the mojo dipping sauce...yum! Make sure to come here during happy hour for the empanadas. They are $2 between 3-6pm from mom-fri. Versus the normal $3.25. Bomb dot com!!! First I'll start with the service, it's good, my experience from coming here a few times has been excellent, the service is kind and friendly. The food, excellent, the sandwiches are on point, Cuban shredded beef should be made into a cologne, I'd wear it! The roast pork is banging! The cubanos (sandwiches that is) are excellent! Try the Super Cubano! And last but not least, the Bodega, with Avo! Typically I only like to leave excellent reviews, but today was the exception. The place was relatively empty upon arrival. I called in our order and they gave us an estimated time of 15 minutes. We arrived 20 minutes after I placed the order, but upon arrival the staff seemed confused like they still had not placed our order. We waited another 25 minutes, so a total of 45 min for our order. While waiting the staff kept delivering wrong plates to the tables and seemed dazed about which orders had been completed. Our drinks were out first which I didn't mind. We ordered 1 sal latte and 1 chai tea. Both tasted really different than usual...neither had sugar and the latte tasted absolutely bitter. The sweet girl at the counter remade it, but the 2nd one was pretty awful too. We tried drinking them, but ended up tossing them once we got home. The food was good until I took a bite out of one of my empanadas and realized one of them was undercooked. It left an awful after taste in my mouth and after taking a closer look I saw it was completely RAW. I attached a picture of it. I was pretty grossed out I'm just sitting here post meal hoping I don't get sick from the big bite I took! Most importantly the staff had no idea we hadn't paid yet. When I told them I still had to pay the lady at the cashier looked confused. She was a bit annoyed when I asked her to confirm what she had charged me for. I just wanted to make sure given their confusion about all the orders that was happening. She simply handed us the receipt without saying anything.
