I have gotten three pairs of glasses in five years at the Escondido Stanton Optical. The first time…read moreI brought in my prescription from Kaiser because I couldn't find what I wanted. Fortunately, this Stanton has a contract with Kaiser for discounted pricing--even better than I could get at Kaiser's optometry group. I got lenses and a new frame for less at Stanton than lenses alone at Kaiser. Also, the second and third times I used the optometrist on-site, which is more convenient than scheduling with Kaiser. I have a complex prescription and am long past being able to wear cheap plastic lenses and bargain frames. Nick, the manager, has always been helpful about walking me through various frame and lens options, and following up when I have come in to get my frames readjusted a couple of times.

I walked in because the giant sign on the door says "2 pairs of glasses + eye exam for $79." Sounds…read moresimple, right? Nope. I already have Ray-Ban aviators with prescription lenses and just wanted to replace the scratched lenses. Not a new frame. Just lenses. The girl behind the counter immediately throws out "$200." No explanation. No questions. Didn't ask if I wanted anti-reflection, polycarbonate, glass, nothing. Just $200 like she pulled the number out of thin air. I asked how she calculated that price. She couldn't explain it. That's basic customer service 101. If you sell optics, you should understand what you're selling. Customer service attitude was cold and dismissive. At one point she even told me I was "yelling," which is nonsense. I was asking normal questions any customer would ask before spending money. They do have a lot of frames, but honestly most of them feel cheap, like $20-$50 quality. That explains the $79 promo -- it's all about pushing budget frames, not helping people who already have quality glasses. Not a complete disaster, but definitely not professional either. If you value real service and knowledgeable staff, you're better off going somewhere like LensCrafters or a proper optical shop. Stanton Optical feels more like a discount factory than a place that actually cares about your eyes. Hmmm no buenooo...

Dr. Le answered all my crazy questions with patience and in a manner that was easy to understand. The entire process was surprisingly quick, but I never felt rushed. With desired eyeglass frames on-hand, Dr. Le crafted my prescription lenses on-site in only 15 minutes - shatter resistant, anti-glare, fatigue free blue-tint, fantastic. Bonus: Dr. Le was able to verify my eye coverage and it turned out the exam and cost of prescription lens were heavily discounted. Huzzah! I've been coming here for 6+ years. The receipt I got as pictured for the eyeglasses, does not show what I actually paid for. Just a custom amount, which I find very interesting. When I clean the new glasses and hold the top/bottom of frame to clean the lenses, you can feel them pinch on the lenses where normally it is a solid feeling. I brought them back and she "fixed" it but now a couple hours later it is still the same. The pictures show the misalignment and taken after the "fix." (The clear lenses and brown frames were all bought here). As much as I like these glass will unfortunately not last. I wanted new prescription polarized lenses for the prescription sunglasses I already had and they ran $230. This is with a 20% discount she said. I received them yesterday and they are poorly fitted as shown. My daughter said my sunglasses look ghetto now. I came in today and Dr. Tam said its normal to see clear around the edges because of the film they put. My older prescriptions lenses did not do this. She claims they did, but of course I would notice it and return them as well. She took them to the back and came back to show me my old ones and how they do it too. The sides now looked damaged on my old lenses like they were tinkered with. I was very frustrated. I know my lenses as I clean them and maybe only used them 50x in the past 2 years. The frames still look brand new. When I wanted a full refund she kept guilt tripping me that she is losing money asking me for $100 because she had to order them. I've never had a business ask this, even a small business. I asked her to show me her cost and it was $57. I was reluctant, but tired of the guilt trip so I paid the $57 and threw the lenses away. I can't believe she marks them up 400% from $57 to $230 and that's with a supposedly 20% discount? Other places I've gone to and now called, charge for the lenses and installation, so hopefully she doesn't say it's for labor. I called several other places after and most will do polarized lenses with a prescription for less than $150, so don't do what I did. I asked for receipts for the polarized lenses again. She would not give me one and says everything is in the system. So no receipt for what I paid for and threw away (which was in cash) and a business write off for her. After reading some of the bad reviews I understand why and how she replies back to them. I hate how this happened to me of course and hopefully doesn't happen with you
