I've been going to Haug Optometry for the last few years. I switched from Greider & Associates in Vista- because that place is a FACTORY, not a family practice, or a place that's pleasant to go. Dr. Haug's office in Escondido is welcoming, warm, and you feel like you're their only patient. Every staff member is kind, knowledgeable, and professional. Dr. Haug himself is a wonderful doctor! This year, I saw Dr. Jeanne Louie for the first time. She was amazing! It was the best eye exam I've ever had. I really enjoyed her personal attention. She was so obviously invested in getting my prescription right; she asked a lot of really great questions that helped determine the outcome of my exam. My experience with Dr. Haug was nothing short of fantastic. The appointment itself was easy to make, with helpful reminders when it got close to the actual time. Dr. Haug asked good and knowledgeable questions, and I felt like he really listened to my answers. On top of that, his staff is very friendly, and helpful. I don't get a good vibe from anybody that works there. I just went in to get my glasses made and the woman that sat down to help me did not even know if the reading glasses included the ability to also look at the computer as well and she could not give me any type of a physical description not even in millimeters or centimeters as to how thick my glasses would be because I was not choosing the upgraded lens material. She didn't even offer to like say "hey as soon as the doctors done I can definitely confirm that for you ". But she didn't even offer that ! I had to like ask her like how do I find out if reading glasses are also for my computer at work . When I went in to get my eyes checked and get my new prescription a couple of months ago I was very clear about what I did not want done . Testing wise. And the woman Dr. gave me a really hard time about why I should have certain test done when I specifically told her I did not want them . I mean she literally argued with me about it which gave me my first bad taste. Overall, the two times that I have been in there have not been a great experience ... no sincere smiles no sincere anything just blah blah for a tiny office I would've thought they would've made a real difference but I'm just gonna go back to Zenni because I think I'd rather talk to a computer. Very nice & friendly staff, organized & nice office. I went to Dr. Haug and was happy with them & their professional recommendations they gave as far as my lens choice, gave me sharper vision than I've had in I can't remember. My wife loved her past optometrist (for years would drive from Escondido to PB to go to him if that gives you an idea of how much - she said he was an expert at fitting multifocal contact lenses in 1 fitting...guess that's a hard thing as 2 of her friends had problems with their doc never getting it right after 5+ fittings) and was VERY reluctant to switch due to our insurance changing. But she finally did, and Dr. H tried something different to see if it'd help her distance in addition to reading vision. And it did so she's glad she switched. read more

Went there to get glasses fixed and sign on door said sorry come back tomorrow. (again) Went there the next day to get glasses fixed that i bought there. .......They said no can do........went to hotshots in carlsbad and paid $3 to fix glasses. Dr Haug is good but his vendors are incompetent at best ........my son returned his glasses twice and they still were not right......he bought new ones on the internet.........and no problem ....and then there are the prices ..OMG ...even with insurance....Sent my other son to Costco for new glasses..........he bought 2 pairs and it was still less expensive than Haug. Haug and most others (not costco or walmart) buy their frames from an Italian company......this is why the prices are nuts........of course the high mark up by Haug helps. read more

Great staff, nice office and most importantly they are experienced and knowledgeable. Yes, this is an optometry office, not an eyeglass shop. They do have a great selection of glasses and assorted up sells for those, but they specialize in your eyeballs. I for one want my eyeballs well taken care of and Haug Optometry is where Ill be going for that. read more

Considering that they told me to arrive 15 minutes early to complete paperwork, and sent me multiple text messages confirming my appointment, I was pretty surprised when I arrived and the office was closed from 2-3 pm for lunch. I stood around for 10 minutes, during which the FedEx man also came by, pounded on the door a few times, and asked me, "They are still not here?" It was now 5 minutes until my appointment at 3 pm and no one had come back, and I realized I didn't want to do business somewhere that couldn't have one single person available to greet a brand new client. It was surprising and frustrating to me that they would have a lunch break go right up until an appointment time that they scheduled. I got in my car and left them a message saying that there was no one there so I am cancelling my appointment. I received no call back to possibly reschedule and no apology. I'd rather just go elsewhere. read more

This is in response to Ron J. review on 7-25-17 A note, I think when people compare a private optometry practice to a Costco or Walmart they think they are comparing apples to apples and that is just not the case. I worked as a certified optician for 11 years, 10 of them at this practice and prior to that at a Walmart. I can tell you there is a great difference in quality. Many of the frames at these discount locations are either discontinued (therefore they cannot obtain parts if need be for repairs or warranty) & the quality and durability are not there. They usually have old lens designs, (especially an issue for those with progressive lenses), their lighter thinner lens material "polycarbonate" is known to have distortions in the lenses that interfere with your vision and don't even get me started on their non glare lens coatings that scratch and smudge very easily. We would have patients come in assuming our Dr must have made a mistake in measuring their prescription (since they couldn't adjust to their new glasses from Costco) only to find that the lenses were made beyond tolerance for prescription accuracy. I've had many friends who have come to me asking me to adjust their glasses bc the staff at Costco didn't bother to adjust them at all, or if they asked for an adjustment it was done very poorly. I understand not everyone can afford the price for higher quality eyewear and service but it isnt comparing apples to apples and you get what you pay for... As for repairs if a frame by chance has been discontinued, (most are current whereas the discount places most are not) and parts are unavailable then HotShots is the place they would refer to. An optometry practice is not a full on repair shop complete with soldering equipment and the like, so again they refer to Hotshots. This practice is also very dedicated to getting the glasses right, if there was an issue at the lab then they would continue to work on the issue until it is working correctly. The Haug's work with the highest integrity and desire to be the best for their patients. I still refer my closest friends and family to their practice with great positive feedback! No practice is perfect and mistakes can be made by staff but they are committed to making sure they get it right. Hope this is helpful! read more

When my exam was over I wasn't pressured to buy all the extras. They were really down to earth and recommended what they thought would work well for me after we discussed my wants and concerns. I have been a patient of Haug Optometrist for some years now. I started seeing Dr Haug when I lived in Escondido, he treats my glaucoma. I find the staff of Haug Optometry to be extremely competent, reliable and trustworthy. Prescriptions are handled fast and I have yet to have any problems getting a refill and he's placed many prescriptions for me through the years. There is none other than Dr. Haug that I would trust with my eyes. About 4 years ago I moved to downtown San Diego . I make the 24 mile trek up north and continue to this day to see Dr. Haug and his fantabulous staff. I would certainly not do this if I didn't respect Dr. Haugs professionalism and expertise. We came here because my 9-year-old was growing out of her old glasses Rx and was also interested in contacts. Let me tell you, 9-yr-olds and contacts can be a sketchy combo and--no lie--Elizabeth (and Vanessa, too) spent over SIX hours training her on how to use them (in, out, in, out, wash, in, out, etc). I am not even kidding about the hours spent. And there was NO EXTRA CHARGE for this. I am amazed. Now my kid's a pro and so, so happy to not have to wear glasses. I can't believe it's taken me this long to write a review here! They are fabulous! On my first visit with Dr. Haug, I did not feel pressured to purchase anything that wasn't covered under my insurance policy. Nobody here ever tried to sell me anything that wasn't completely necessary. Even with the "recommended" services, they were very honest in saying I was most likely not in any serious risk due to my history and though the service was "recommended," it was not necessary. When I first met Dr. Haug, he sat down with me and took the time to get to know me and discuss medical issues that were not even related to my eyes. The entire team made me feel welcome and comfortable. On my yearly follow up visit, my prescription had changed only slightly and the team never tried to pressure me into new glasses since I don't wear them very often and the change was so slight. Excellent! I have been to Dr. Haug with and without insurance and they've always been great. They offered a small discount when I paid cash since I didn't have insurance. My favorite things about Dr. Haug's office is the up-to-date equipment that makes me confident they are thoroughly and efficiently evaluating my sight and the health of my eyes. Even though the initial exam is expensive, they have done multiple free follow-ups to make sure my contacts are fitting correctly. They are extremely accommodating when purchasing contacts too.
