Came here for breakfast on a pretty quiet morning, but the service was surprisingly slow. We ordered the Hay Tree Benedict and the Salmon Benedict, and both were very good! The view is beautiful, which definitely adds to the experience. However, our waters were never refilled, and no one checked on us for quite some time. We were ready to leave but ended up sitting around waiting to pay. Overall, the food and atmosphere were lovely, but I think the service could use some improvement, especially considering how quiet it was.

Great atmosphere on the beach away from the chaos of Waikiki with friendly service and great food.

This is my first stop for dinner at sunset whenever I'm in Honolulu. Have a great menu. They particularly good with salmon. The view is always spectacular. It is a small restaurant so reservations are important especially at sunset.

We celebrated our friend's engagement here! It's small yet intimate. We were able to enjoy the sunset and have a wonderful meal. We shared an assortment of appetizers and my the standout was the lomi hamachi - delicate fresh fish with a tomato vinaigrette. Fresh local fish ($42) - nicely seared and went well with the corn succotash. The size was quite small for the price. The menu is pricey but well worth it with the staff, food, and views.

Located in Kaimana hotel. Valet Parking is free during HH or $10 per 3 hrs with validation. Right on the beach. You look out and see the ocean which is great! You pay for the atmosphere. Came for HH. They have limited HH menu with only a burger, salad and fries. Got one of each. The dressing on the salad was delish. Though the description said there was supposed to be baby gem and kale making up my salad, I was given romaine lettuce. Spoke with the waitress and they remade my salad. The burger has a thousand island dressing on it which I got on the side. Burger was average. Fries were served with the burger which it didn't state it was on the menu. Those were served piping hot but the herb fries were already cold. Mixed Drinks typically are $20 which is steep but during HH it's a little less. Service was so so. I kept having to flag them down to fill water, etc.

My husband and I ate here on Sunday 10/4 and were rather disappointed with the service and cocktail experience . It took 35 minutes to get our drinks and our food order was taken before they arrived. Within minutes of getting our drinks the two appetizers arrived and then the mains right after, they should be spaced out accordingly. While the food was good our drinks had a spiced medicine flavor - we had two different drinks. The house made ice cream was really good and when we commented on it to the server he didn't know it was made in house even though that was stated on the menu. View is always the star, but overall a disappointing experience. The service felt scattered, rushed, and unorganized.

HAU TREE Kaimana hotel restaurant had started doing afternoon tea service called Mu'umu'u and Mimosas serveral months ago, once every month . Now they are doing it every Saturday. 55 dollars per person in a private air conditioned room with spectacular ocean views. Even when the air conditioner is blasting on high, the way that sun hits you, it gets very hot. Mary and I had a lovely table off by the side windows had amazing views of waikiki and kaimana beach ocean waves. We had a very lovely man playing acustic guitar the whole time! He did local Hawaiian music and lots of classics. I forgot to get his name. His voice had a very good vocal range and he has good talent! I've managed to try every single spot for tea on our island. This is one of my top favorites! Our server Malia was fantastic. She was so sweet. She started us off with a mimosa with choice of pineapple or pog. I choose pog (pineapple, orange and guava). She brought over hobbs from kauai tea collection. I picked mamaki tea. My friend got spicy chai. However, I wish they had a floral tea pot or floral tea cups. I loved how there were local ladies that had their mu'umu'u attire. Liberty house (Macy's had taken over the local department stores) was one of the best places to get a mu'umu'u. We started off with these vanilla scones with whipped butter and jam. The jam was tangy and not too sweet. This jam should be for sale. It was onolicious! Malia brought over a tier koa wood set of our sandwiches and sweet treats. Because my OpenTable had preferences of my allergic reactions to certain nuts and coconuts, they did alter mine a little more. I would say they're very accommodating! Mary loved the goat cheese puff and I loved the cucumber sandwiches and we both thought the guava tart was the winner! Honestly, everything was super good. We were full and left very satisfied. Parking is free valet or street parking and of course, be sure and tip the valet. We highly recommend and afternoon tea service is every Saturday. Mahalo open table for recommendations

The best kale spinach strawberry feta salad with salmon that I've ever had! We sat at the bar because the weight was really long for a table. The bartender was great, super friendly and attentive. I will definitely be coming back!

Trashy lobby

$100 for a piece of frozen Costco fish and some hamburger helper. $10 to park, sat us in the bar for a birthday, brought the person next to us a birthday cake and brought us nothing. Views was trash, lobby was trash, go somewhere better.

Lilikoi margarita

We went there for dinner hoping to sit by the beach, however the only thing available on open table was a counter/high top option-- which is where we sat. I wish the set up was better here -- the chairs were so low you couldnt see over the counter top out to the beach (unless you are over 6ft). The drinks were good, our server was nice & seemed knowledgeable but his recommendations just didn't seem to hit (or maybe the menu didn't speak to us). We tried the tempura fish with hot honey & harissa and were not impressed. The fry on the fish was good but there wasn't any flavor and the sauce was unevenly distributed so we couldn't even enjoy that with every bite. The focaccia was perfectly cooked. nothing on the menu spoke to us so we ended up leaving after the fish. Two appetizers & two drinks cost us $100. Probably wouldn't be back for food but would go back for the view & drinks!

Burrata & Foccacia
Daniella P.

This place was a great choice for a nice dinner. The interior is so beautiful and it feels like an elevated island experience. The food and drinks are a little bit on the pricey side but it was very delicious. We are all fighting over who had the last piece of burrata and tomato. We all had a nice time and I definitely recommend this place!

Sunset views!
Caroline L.

Booked a birthday dinner at Hau Tree for the sunset and beachside views! You can book 30 days in advance online which I recommend if you're looking for the specific sunset time to time it right. Very limited parking and we had to valet it which came out to only $10 with restaurant validation. Service was friendly but felt slow. Food was decent but I just wasn't impressed. I've never complained about large portions but why were there so many dang potatoes as the side it was so wasteful and didn't taste that great either. The sunset beach views were great but I wouldn't go out of my way to come back here. It didn't hit the spot for us. Drink: - liliko'i margarita (has tajin like rim) was limey Food: - chip & rainbow caviar - really good! - lomi hamachi - kale & spinach salad add seared ahi - very small ahi - 12 oz washugyu striploin with side: roasted potatoes (do not get this side and it was way too many see pic) side: roasted eggplant

From start to finish, this was an exception experience. Ocean/beachfront seating on their lanai, with woven lanterns hanging through out. Tiki torches really helped set the vibe. You absolutely need reservations for a table on the Lanai for dinner. Prime times are for the sunset. We were seated immediately and our order for refreshments wasn't long behind. What we ordered: ** a bottle of Chianti wine ** the focaccia bread served with a balsamic whipped butter. ** Mido Caesar salad, , my husband and I split the salad. ** fennel sausage orecchiette ** kahuku golden tomato strozzapreti ** Complementary Guava cake for our Anniversary The focaccia bread was warm and soft. The balsamic whipped butter was delightful. The kahuku golden tomato strozzapreti pasta dish reminded me of the pasta dishes I ate while visiting in Italy. It is a light and flavorful dish, the sweet tomatoes were bursting with flavor. My husband ordered the fennel sausage and orecchiette pasta dish, this was also delicious. Our server was very friendly and prompt, adding her favorite items from the menu. They served us a light and fluffy complementary Guava cake for our anniversary. We loved the whole experience.

Are there gluten-free options?

Sort of, there isn't "gluten-free" options on the menu but there's fish, and salads. I would also recommend letting your server know as well.

Are there any vegan options?

What time do they start serving dinner pls?

The capacity of the private room?

Is there a kama'aina discount?

Is there valet parking?

Yes at the hotel. There is also ample parking in the street as it's at the end of town.

Are walk-ins welcome?

For walk-in, the best bet that seems to always have some seating is the gorgeous/comfortable bar. For the lower patio, reservations encouraged.

Is it baby/kid friendly atmosphere?

Yes

Is it possible to make modifications to the menu for gluten allergy? Mahalo

I don't think that's possible.

Hi just wondering if there's still happy hour available, if so where can I find the menu for that, and what are the hours?

Hi Jacy, I posted pics of the dinner and drinks menu back in April. There is a QR code on the menu. Maybe that will give info on possible happy hour specials?

How do you make reservations? I used to be able to online but it's not showing up on Resy anymore

Aloha!! We currently are using the Tock reservation system!

Is there a kids menu?

As of April/ early May, they didn't.

How's the parking situation? Did anyone know the rates at Kapiolani Patk

They have valet parking, and it may have been $10.

Do you have a birthday dessert plate?

Yes!!!

Is this restaurant wheelchair accessible?

Yes

Is there a keiki menu?

Unfortunately, I didn't notice a keiki menu.

Are small dogs allowed at the lanai?

Yes, they are now allowing dogs well behaved

I noticed a few tables had brought their own wine (good wines, likely for a special occasion) - what is the corkage fee?

No idea. I was told you can't do this.

Is the old Hau Tree Menu gone? This is my husband's go-to birthday or anniversary place for years and always ordered the same thing. Sad to not see that menu anymore.

Yes it's gone, but better. Chef Chris Kajioka (Miro) along with Chef Alan (Le Bistro) are serving up amazing dishes. He'll be pleasantly surprised! Enjoy

What is PDR seating when making dinner reservations?

Private Dining Room.

They are extremely consistent, since ever, and every dish tastes authentic. Pipikaula, which is the pulehu short rib, is my favorite. Lots of meat on the bone, and the fat in the meat you can taste with every bite. Almost forgot, we got watercress soup too. That's my favorite veggie! And the beef in the soup was cooked down so it was very moist. A little pricey overall but very worth it. Every trip to Hawai'i I look forward to upsetting my doc back at the mainland by gorging on some ono local grinds. Boy is he going to be angry. Give me a Chee Hoo for some Fried Butterfish Collar! How they are able to fry this fish without drying it out, allowing juices to just ooze out after breaking through the crisp exterior is mind bending. They know it's good bc when I excitedly ordered a second serving the waitress gave me a knowing wink. This is my new "last bite." Kalbi. Juicy. Well seasoned. Some of the best I've had. You know it's a popular dish when bc when I looked inside the kitchen you just see rows upon rows of ribs hanging ready to be pulled down and thrown on the grill. Lau lau-pork and butterfish steamed in ti leaves, a Hawaiian comfort food. The main reason for this trip was to bring my Mom back to her hometown in Ewa. She commented that she has not found a lau lau to her liking in San Diego so when this was brought to her and she went completely silent and smiling eating it up you know it's good lol. I was very happy Helena's take brought her joy. Kalua pork and cabbage. I can't attest to it bc it was being hoarded on the other side of the table and I was just happy with the butterfish and kalbi as is lol. Poke-Bruh, it's Hawai'i. Haupia-oh goodness. This was the perfect way to finish off the meal. The traditional coconut pudding was refreshing without being overbearingly sweet. Looks like Jello blocks but firm enough to pick up by hand. Outstanding. Service was ridiculously friendly and epitomized the Aloha spirit. This place is a foodies dream stop, serving locals and tourists alike since 1946. This place is a freaking institution!

Our server, Jason, greeted us with a warm smile and took our drink and food orders. We got a few items that we don't usually see at Hawaiian restaurants back home. Hawaiian Moco: opted for the lau lau as suggested with lomi salmon and macaroni salad. For $24.99, it was huge, succulent, flavorful and worth the price point! Smoked Moco: the Kiawe-smoked meat was tender, sautéed with bell peppers and onions and topped with a yummy smoked aioli and local egg. The mini for $16.99 was the perfect portion for me. Fish Tacos: the fish was fresh, cooked perfectly on taro tortillas with chili aioli, avocado mousse, shredded lettuce and lomi salmon. The fries were thick and crispy too. Squid Lū'au Combo: with lomi salmon and poi, sweet potato and haupia (a coconut dessert) the squid was cooked in a starchy broth. It was like nothing I've had before.
